Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel (2021)
Direspectful to Elisa and Bipolar Disorder
Really long drawn out theatrics about what happened. She had Bipolar Disorder and was clearly manic at the time she went missing so why all the rhetoric from YouTubers and everyone but psychological professionals? The psychological part is just brushed over with the program pushing to prove she was murdered and it's a mystery! They're milking what is a very sad tragedy about what can sadly happen if you're manic, suffering a bad mental health episode and are possibly suicidal. This does nothing to stop the fear mongering and paranoia around severe mental health diseases. I don't feel this was respectful to Elisa, just a chance to sensationalise her death and give YouTubers their kudos.
RIP, Elisa
Betaal (2020)
Not Bad!!
OK the acting and budget leave something to be desired at times but overall I was pleasantly surprised by this! I don't feel it deserves its current rating to be as low as it is.
Some of the acting is really good. Believe me I've seen just about every horror going and get very fed up of the same scenes and ideas used over and over again. This threw some genuinely creepy imagery and ambience in. The demon drummer outside really spooked me and the demon zombies remind me very much of Evil Dead.
I switched this on expecting to switch it straight back off again but it's very watchable!!
Extracted (2012)
This is watchable but not great!!!
Hmmm methinks the people involved in this film have been upping the votes...! Inception this most certainly is not!!!
Whilst this film is by no means cr@p you might want to ask yourself why I am the only reviewer so far to give it a low score and explain why...!
The film story unravels very slowly, in fact far too slowly for the subject material. While pounding action is not always necessary this feels like a lazy conversation between two people on a Summers day which does not fit in with the plot matter. It NEEDS a little action and faster pacing as it very much risks being quote boring. Actors are good considering this is a low budget affair and the sets are engaging but its very lacklustre... They could have produced a really good film with this idea but as it stands its OK for a background film while you engage in something else
A far fairer mark would be an OK 4.5...
Predatory Instinct (2011)
Rubbish. Just rubbish.
There must have been reviews and votes from people involved in the film to have got this to a 6.5!
It's a low budget mess with absolutely awful acting and has not one redeeming feature! Well, it made me very sleepy which I guess was nice...
The actors are terrible, plasticy one liner utterers that you wouldn't give two hoots about and so made you disconnect entirely with what was going on. The plot takes place jumping from an ordinary apartment to some gravel outside and the 'stalking creature' guy is absolutely laughable!!
It feels like nothing. at all. went on for the entire duration.
Seriously, save yourself the boredom and leave this well be...
The Rain (2009)
Totally stupid
Dear Lord!! HOW have people reviewed and rated this so well?! Seriously, unless you want to slip into a mindcoma, do not touch this with a barge pole...
It's another low budget horror that could have done so well. A good idea in principle (a bawdy, ragged-toothed Native American curses some farmy people about something to do with rain) but fails on all levels. It's one of those horrors where the cast plod around a small set over and over again while nothing makes much sense. The acting is DIRE, in fact the plucky young lad from the bygone era was the only promising talent and he's in it all for 5 minutes. The rest of the cast look like they're practising their lines off camera in low effort mode and absolutely no- one adds anything to the silly storyline.
I cannot actually remember more of this because as well as losing the will to live soon in, my vital functions slowed down to a crawl making memory impossible. All I can recall is that there was a lot of wood panelling, a hat that kept reappearing and some black lines on everyone's skin. Oh and a bit of rain. Those were the highlights.
AVOID.
Creature (1985)
Wow, words don't usually fail me... Here goes:
"Contains spoilers" I think. (As if ANYTHING could spoil this even more.)
I'm currently sat with my head in my hands in despair. Crap day at work, thought I would come back and melt into movie mode with this. After all the bad things I hear about films at least I can say I give them a go, suspend my disbelief and just jump on in!! What a lot of disbelief to suspend...
This is quite frankly, absolute SPACEJUNK and from someone who really knows rubbish, heed my words!
The actors were so wooden I couldn't have given a bag of b@stards what happened to them. They could have been replaced with a chess set and it would have been more believable. Set was AWFUL. Something Geiger would have been beaten to death with his own shoes for if he had produced. The alien seemed a direct rip off of Alien, though bits of it managed to get inside people's heads, which was hey, different at least. The dialogue seemed to have been randomly produced from some kind of Amstrad Planetary Peril Mix-a-word 9000 (and after switching on its hideously flashing megabank of lights with the flick of a giant knob) gave such illuminating insights such as "God, oh my God", "the outer airlock is open", "that girl is too quiet", "we're next on the menu", "you should let me take a look at that" (No, don't, THERE'S SOMETHING INSIDE HIS HEAD AND IT ISN'T HAPPY THOUGHTS ABOUT HIS CAREER!!)
There were some memorable moments, from what I can remember in my haze of disappointed fury, such as when the aforementioned normally quiet, grumpy guy gets the thing in his head and puts on the most fake, cheery, frightening show via camera of how he found nothing in the other ship and everything was fine "Hey! I just want to get home guys"!!! :D Only for the members of the crew who have just spent God knows how long with him in space to only realise something was afoot when he didn't sweat properly later on! I would definitely want all of them on my alien recovery space crew.
And it went on and on and round and round and it's actually STILL on now!
The worst thing about it all is streaming this has just robbed my bandwidth of precious capacity and I will need something sharpish after this to restore my will to live.
The Tunnel (2011)
How this got a 6 I will never know...
I usually judge 6 ratings to be an OK film, not Inception but a good watch. How this managed to generate such a grade I have absolutely no idea.
Starts off slowly and tediously, overacted and fake looking from the get go. So, long build up. Then cue (it felt like 9 hours but was probably an hour and a half) of running around in a tunnel with shaky cam action and lots of screaming and blarting. It added absolutely nothing to this genre and was a lot worse than most of them.
Frustrating and never really went anywhere. I would rather have spent this watching two quite uninteresting episodes of Most Haunted back to back.
At least I might have had a jump...
