I Wanted Wings (1941)
Wonderful film about early pilot training
This film is a wonderful depiction of pre-WWII pilot training. Veronica Lake is wonderful as she chases her man. And although it was considered romantic in 1941, today it would be considered stalking. The film was made at Kelly and Randolph Fields in San Antonio, Texas. Today you can visit the places where the film was made and see the exact same buildings and features as are in the film. Even some of the artwork seen in the film still hangs in the same place at Randolph Field today. Many of the military actors in the film were actual military members at the time. Although a little long, it gives you a fascinating glimpse into the world of prewar pilot training. The film is a must see or own for any true military history buff.
Cars (2006)
Great, Funny Film
This film is simply hilarious and a definite must see. I also think it's a must buy when it comes out on DVD.
Anyone with anything bad to say about this movie is either looking for something you would never expect find in an animated film or they have never seen the entire film. The story may have been done several times before and all were entertaining, but this film has something for everyone. Racing fans, comedy fans, action fans, and even love story fans will get something from this film.
Not many movies can claim to be as entertaining as this one. The character voices were matched incredibly well and the cameo appearances of many famous NASCAR and television personalities were perfectly placed throughout. I was really impressed with the attention to detail in matching the cars of Darrel Cartrip and The King. If you know NASCAR, you'll know what I mean.
Failure to Launch (2006)
A delightful, must-see movie
The movie was very delightful, upbeat, and fun. Yes, the plot was very obvious, but varied style of comedy used throughout the film make up for any plot predictability. Zooey Deschanel, Terry Bradshaw, and Kathy Bates steal the show in my opinion. Deschanel has several scenes where the comedy of the scene hits you a few seconds after the scene is over. Bradshaw's quick delivery, supported by Bates' wit makes each scene they are in seem like they are playing real life characters and not reading from a script The movie is well worth seeing. Don't see the movie if you're looking for something that might sweep the next Academy Awards, but do plan on a good laugh and a very enjoyable evening. I enjoyed it so much, I will rent it when available and see it again.
