Angel Has Fallen (2019)
Good action, HORRIBLE writing
While the action scenes are good and the cast does a good job, I am amazed at how poorly written this film is. By the end it is laughable. It truly is written at a 3rd grade level. It starts early where the "bad guys" talk outloud to each other about what they are doing and why, because you know, if have are carrying out a plot, you always pause to review every step of the plot with everyone that carrying it out already and fully knows it. Instead of using some brains and write a good story that carries you along and using the story to reveal the plot, just have bad guys say it out loud so the audience knows. "We are going to kill the President. Yes, we are and bin it on Mike Banning. Yes, and we are going to get a contract and make money for it!" Really? They didn't know that already? From there is gets worse. From saying completely false things like, "we've never had power transferred to the VP and then back to the President. We don't know what to do," to A President who is on a ventilator and in a coma one moment to running for his life the next moment to using oxygen to blow up the hospital (oxygen is a NON-flammable gas). Had the writers made even a small effort they would not have written such a horrible story.
Doom: Annihilation (2019)
Laughable
Simply awful. All the characters are stereotyped. All the lines are forced and stereotyped. It is very, very difficult to make a movie this bad, but the producers have succeed with simply a pathetic, brain dead, laughable film.
The Car: Road to Revenge (2019)
5 minutes is more than enough
Five minutes into this film and you have seen all you need to see. Ridiculously bad acting, cardboard, one dimensional characters. The best is the the opening scene where the policeman, disregarding the dispatcher, goes after bad guy. Once he stops the bad guy, policeman realizes there is a person in the trunk, so what does policeman do? What any policeman would do; ignore the bad guy and open the trunk which of course leads to a fight scene between bad guy and police man.
The Recall (2017)
Awful
How do movies like this ever get made? The "fun fact' about it is it was made in just 20 days. I find it hard to believe this movie wasn't made in 2 days. The acting is so bad it is laughable. The special effects are worse. Do NOT waste your time.
The Walking Dead (2010)
Little House on the Prairie with Zombies
The first two seasons were "edge of your seat, much watch the next episode" stuff. Since then it has gotten progressively worse. I saw a review that said it has gone from a zombie survival show to a soap opera. Season 9 is the epitome of this. It is about who is sleeping with who. how will they build the bridge, will all the groups get along, how do we get this plow to work, who will work the fields, how do we treat this illness, etc. The zombies play a very little part and I feel like I am watching an episode of Little House on the Prairie more than The Walking Dead. And of course with the typical liberal lean on everything. Apparently one of the requirements of surviving zombies is being gay. Season 9 moves at a snails pace and is a complete snoozer. I am at episode six, and literally, all that has happened could have been done in less than 20 minutes. It is time to bury this series for good.
Next (2007)
Horrible writing
The cast does the best with what they are given but it isn't much. They spend a lot of time talking to each other to explain what is going to us on instead of having some quality writing to show us. Everyone easily believes that Nick Cage's character can see into the future with very little resistance which is almost laughable. The bad guys are paper thin. The relationship between Nick Cage's character Jessica Beal's character is cringe worthy it is so bad. "Oh, I hardly know you but I'll give you a ride across the country." "I am getting a creepy feeling about you." Then, bam! They are in love! Better writing could have saved this movie.
Rim of the World (2019)
NOT FOR CHILDREN!
This film is clearly geared towards kids under the age of 16. From the cast, to the silly, simple plot to the sophomoric writing, to the bad acting, this film's target audience is in the 10 year old to 13 year old range. But be warned, there are many things in here that a kid in that age range should not see. From the sound of a person being ripped apart, to the use of drugs and alcohol, to almost every profanity being used frequently, to one of the child actors discussing oral sex with an alien, to the same actor discussing a female counselors genitals and what he'd like to do it, this film is full of adult themes. So, who is the film geared towards? No one. Avoid it.
Edge of the World (2018)
NOT FOR CHILDREN!
Clearly this film is geared at kids in the 10 to 14 year old range. The writing is at their level as is the acting and the depth of the plot as well as the age of the main cast. Yet, there are many, many elements that I would never want my child to see. From using alcohol, to using drugs, to the sound of people being torn apart, to using sexual slang to describe what you would do to one of the counselors to using almost every profane word in the book, this simply is not a movie for children. Be warned.
Designated Survivor (2016)
starts out strong then takes a hard left turn
The premise of the show is truly edge of your seat stuff for the first 10 or so episodes. Once they starting putting the clues together about why it happened, though, the show loses steam and takes a hard left turn in pushing its political propaganda. The President is supposed to be an Independent, but all of his agenda is left wing; allow immigrants into our country, tackle global warming, no tax cuts for the rich, gun control, etc (apparently this is the way the writer are trying to show these ideas all mainstream and not left wing?). And it is all presented with ridiculously simple reasons that have the depth of a third grade paper - "bad people with guns did bad things to these good, brave people so we must pass gun control legislation." They even mock midwest states for their support of guns. And, of course, the only thing that stands in his way are the evil Republicans.....zzzzzzz. Each time the President presents his reason for his agenda, the crowd and the media all smile and nod like good little lemmings; sometimes even giving him standing ovations. It all turns into a very silly left wing propaganda. Don't waste your time.
