First 4 seasons are superb!
13 November 2022
The first four seasons were simply superb with some genius casting - and accents to boot. The likes of Claire Foy and Matt Smith gave the show its charisma, along with incredible actors such as Pip Torrens and Alex Jennings, etc.. All fears of Matt Smith departing were allayed when Tobias Menzies stepped into the Prince Philip role.

However, Season 5 isn't quite on the money. Whilst the new queen is very good, and the Diana Spencer character unbelievably like the real Lady Di, Prince Charles is somewhat of a let down. He appears to have ditched his royal accent for that of a regular Joe. Dominic West might be conscious of portraying a crass caricature, but caricatures are what we want. Prince Philip is no longer on par either (was Charles Dance not available!?!) and James Hewitt appears to have been randomly chosen. The show is still very good, and the likes of Lady Di's character keep it together, but it's starting to feel like a BBC drama, which is a shame.

Superb!

Gorgeously atmospheric, classy, witty, and romantic....whilst all the time factual. How I wish there were more films of this calibre. Possibly a little tricky to keep up with at times, this is nonetheless one of my favourite films this year.

Way better than Bond

If you want a great action thriller with exotic locations, charismatic leads, and fantastic action, you can't wrong with this! Ryan Gosling was fantastic, but Chris Evans owned it! Loved it!

Lame

Usual Bond rubbish. Every time I expect something different, but it's the same tedious format with each movie. We start with a great opening scene which has you thinking it's going to be a good one. Then, it rapidly goes off the boil only to in the end with a pathetic, gratuitous-violence fest in which Bond nonchalantly wades his way through an army of villains inside a mountain, submarine base, or similar...yawn. Dear Bond directors, look at the sniper scene in the Hurt Locker to see how it should be done. Don't you know that less is more? We don't need a pile of bodies to get our jollies...just one or two stubborn bad guys will suffice!

Superb!

God, I love this show. There's nothing better than vicariously busting a gut and freezing one's nuts off in the hope of striking it rich....all from the comfort of one's armchair! This goes for Gold Rush too, which I also enjoy, but this is by far the better of the two shows.

Superb!

I didn't expect S2 to be as good as S1, but it just gets better. A great mix of characters and a riveting storyline set in beautiful Cape Cod make this one of my favourite shows on Prime.

I can't help but be reminded of Bloodline....maybe it's the heady mix of nefarious characters in an idyllic setting. I hope this doesn't lose it somewhat in S3 like Bloodline did!

Most enjoyable!

Maybe my expectations were low having seen the overall score and read a few reviews, or maybe it's because I'm not an Agatha Christie purist, but I loved it. Depp was naturally superb, but equally so was Branagh. I think other reviews have been unfairly harsh on him. Most of all, I loved the atmosphere of the film set on that gorgeous train against a snowy backdrop. For me, it was like watching a movie in the era in which it was set...a classy bit of old-school escapism designed for the big screen!
