Coffee-farming is the lifeblood of my hometown in Puerto Rico, but it is threatened with extinction. Hector, Martina, Israel, and Alexis are all fighting to save this way of life. Their enemies are the globalization of the food industry, the spread of agri-business, a dysfunctional neo-colonial government, and shifting social values. When a plague of beetles descends on the plantations, the mountain people are pushed to the edge. As the islandÂ’s agriculture collapses around them, the community rises to meet the challenge with a unique blend of grassroots activism, good humor, strong coffee and all-natural biological warfare.
