- Stopped a performance mid-song when he saw someone being beaten up in the crowd. He would often go out of his way for fans, who describe him as affable, genuine, warm, caring, and truly interested in what they had to say, often spending hours after a concert or press event mingling with fans and conversing with them on a wide range of topics. Fans, in turn, would often be very respectful whenever Grohl would need time away to eat, sleep, or spend some private time by himself or with his family. Even so, Grohl almost never turned down a fan who wanted an autograph or who would just come up to say hello. He has also been only too happy over his career to dispense advice to aspiring musicians whenever asked, and would occasionally come in to help them if he was in town and his schedule permitted. He even encouraged his fans to record his live concerts and freely trade those recordings among themselves.

He finally told them to stop doing it but ironically thousands of them threw lighters at him when he wanted to set the Mentos on fire. Fans have since stopped throwing things.

After a short tirade against the brawler, Grohl yelled to him "Get the f**k out of my show!". Right after that, the brawler was forced out of the hall by the security staff. Grohl received massive applause, which he took modest. After that, the band continued to play.

- During a trip to Chicago at age 13, a cousin took him to his first concert where he saw local punk rock band "Naked Raygun" perform. That particular event was a milestone in Dave's life in that he knew there and then what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.

In 1992, he played a benefit concert with the other members of Nirvana in opposition to Oregon Ballot Measure 9, and to this day, is often seen wearing a white knot in support of LGBT causes.
