Greed, as this was never supposed to be made as shown with the last dialogue in the first, which leads to the POWER, the only way they could get Keifer back was to agree to give him the death that Casey Siemaszko character from the first suffered and not as it portrayed in the first, as history shows Doc lived till 1929 and Charlie survived the war at the store.
