The 51st Daytime Emmys were last night on June 7th, with some surprising winners. Watching the actors’ and actresses’ reactions when they won was fun, as they clearly thought they didn’t stand a chance to take home the Emmy. All in all, It was an entertaining and eventful night.
Michelle Stafford Won The Daytime Emmys Outstanding Lead Actress
Michelle Stafford, who plays Phyllis Summers on The Young and the Restless, was shocked by her triumph. Stafford won for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
While Stafford is a phenomenal actress, she was up against some serious competition with Finola Hughes, who plays Anna Devane on General Hospital, and Cynthia Watros, who plays Nina Reeves on General Hospital.
Stafford had a good past year, as she had killer scenes with her on-screen nemesis, Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters). During her acceptance speech, she praised her fellow actress and good friend,...

Dick Van Dyke’s run in Hollywood has been nothing short of iconic. With a career spanning over seven decades, the actor has been the recipient of four Primetime Emmy wins and has now made history following his second Daytime Emmy win, thanks to his stint in Days of Our Lives.
But unlike his stint in the entertainment industry, the actor’s personal life hasn’t been exactly smooth sailing, especially during his first marriage with Margie Willett. Van Dyke, who went on to cheat on his wife of 36 years with his agent’s secretary, revealed that the affair took a heavy toll on him, stressing he was ridden with guilt.

General Hospital won big at the 51st Daytime Emmys.
While only Robert Gossett won among the nominated actors, the ABC soap took home Best Drama, Outstanding Writing Team, and Best Directing Team trophies.
It is good news for the show, but the results puzzled the viewers.
For several years, there have been complaints about the writing, the seemingly random actors they hire, and more.
Winning for the writing category against soaps like The Young and the Restless, Days of our Lives, and The Bold and the Beautiful, which all had phenomenal storylines, is confusing even to us.
Here’s what some General Hospital viewers had to say about the big sweep at the Daytime Emmys.
General Hospital announces big Emmy win
Admittedly, winning the best Daytime Drama series is a big win, and General Hospital couldn’t wait to share their three big wins on social media.

It was not a surprise at all when Dick’s name was called as the winner for his Guest Performance in a Drama Series.

The 2024 Daytime Emmys went largely according to script on June 7, but there were still more than a few surprises. As always, some of the best moments occurred when the winners genuinely didn’t see that Emmy coming. See the complete winners list.
Here are the Top 5 of those shocking winners on the “shockmeter” scale.
1. Michelle Stafford, Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series for “The Young and the Restless.”
Most Gold Derby editors and users seemed to think that it was a battle between “General Hospital” heroines Finola Hughes and Cynthia Watros. So Stafford did a classic jaw-drop when her name was called, giving the night the one big upset that it needed. Stafford’s portrayal of Phyllis Summers had previously earned her a Supporting Actress Emmy in 1997 and a Lead Actress statuette in 2004. Two decades later, she’s an official triple Emmy champ – not to mention the night’s biggest daytime drama queen.

Dick Van Dyke Won For Outstanding Guest Performance On ‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers
The show started by awarding the Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Daytime Drama. Robert Gossard, who plays Marshall Ashford on General Hospital, won.

Hope dedicated her Emmy to all the mothers who lost a child. Her big storyline this year was that her character had a devastating miscarriage. Her performance was heartbreaking.

The 51st Daytime Emmys brought fashion and wins to the stage.
CBS hosted the event, allowing it to be televised live for viewers to revel in what their favorite soap stars were wearing and what they were doing.
The nominations this year were all over the board, and while we had our predictions, we weren’t sure who would actually take home the coveted awards.
In a year affected by writers’ strikes, scribes wrote some of the material the actors worked with and did a good job making it their own.
While there are varying opinions about who won each category, only one can take home the statue.
Here’s which soaps won each category tailored to the genre.
Who won a Daytime Emmy?
Some categories didn’t offer an actor or actress for a particular soap. But without further do, here is a list of winners in the soap-centric categories.

General Hospital was once again the big winner at the Daytime Emmys, while Dick Van Dyke was recognized for his guest work on Days of Our Lives and The Kelly Clarkson Show won its fourth consecutive trophy for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series.
For a few hours Friday, it seemed like the 51st Annual awards wouldn’t occur because IATSE threatened to picket the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles over the show’s use of a non-union crew. Fortunately, IATSE leadership met with the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Friday afternoon and were able to reach an agreement two hours before showtime.
Following a corny but cute opening number performed by The Talk hosts Amanda Kloots and Jerry O’Connell, Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier and Nichelle Turner kicked off the live show by singling out “royalty” in the house — Dick Van Dyke, who would end up winning...

A giddy Dick Van Dyke took home his second Daytime Emmy Friday for guest-starring on Peacock’s Days of Our Lives.
“I don’t believe this. I feel like I’m a spy from nighttime television!” he exclaimed from the stage. “I’m the oldest nominee in history.”
Van Dyke, who won his first Daytime Emmy in 1984 for performing in a children’s program on CBS, reveled in how he had just won for playing Mystery Man/Timothy Robicheaux on Days of our Lives. “If I had known I was gonna live this long, I would have taken care of myself,” he cracked.

“General Hospital” led night one of the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards, winning four prizes — including the outstanding daytime drama Emmy. “General Hospital” won the top daytime drama award for the fourth year in a row.
“Gh” took an early lead as proceedings got underway, including writing, directing and supporting actor performance in a daytime drama series (Robert Gossett as Marshall Ashford). While accepting the honor for daytime drama directing, the show’s team paid tribute to Johnny Wactor, the former “Gh” performer who was recently killed.
Besides Gossett from “Gh,” daytime acting awards were spread out among several shows, with CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” winning two — for lead actress (Michelle Stafford as Phyllis Summers) and supporting actress (Courtney Hope as Sally Spectra). CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” won the drama actor for Thorsten Kaye as Ridge Forrester, who also won last year.

Steve Burton has been playing Jason on General Hospital for decades. He recently opened up about how his late co-star Stuart Damon helped shape his career. Keep reading for more about his relationship with the man who played his father on the soap.
From Jason Quartermaine To Jason Morgan
Steve Burton was just 21 when he took on the role of rich kid Jason Quartermaine on General Hospital. Despite his young age, it wasn’t his first acting credit. His breakout role was on the sitcom Out Of This World in 1987. A stint on Days of Our Lives as Harris Michaels followed, a role he briefly reprised in 2023.
In 1991, he joined General Hospital in a role he’d play off and on for over three decades. But he’s actually played two roles on the soap opera: Jason Quartermaine and Jason Morgan. In 1995, Jason Quartermaine was involved in a car crash that caused amnesia.
