When it comes to epic new character challenges for Chris Hemsworth, the question isn’t “Can he do it?” The question is “Does he have it in him… to make it epic?”
From “The Avengers” and “Blackhat” to more Avengers and “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” Hemsworth has been chewing through action roles since he was first cast as Captain Kirk’s dad in the 2009 “Star Trek” reboot that launched a thousand IMDb pages. He’s known across the world and throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thor: an ancient god dedicated to protecting Earth and the “Guardians of the Galaxy” IP with a heart of gold and a hammer the size of Rocket Raccoon. Sometimes he’s brave. Sometimes he’s goofy. And shaggy or shaven, the man sure can make a cape and eyepatch sexy.

Eminem has a cameo-filled video to accompany the first single from his upcoming 12th studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce).
Pete Davidson, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Shane Gillis are in the video for the song “Houdini,” a callback to the rapper’s 2002 hit “Without Me.” Watch the video below.
The clip opens with Dr. Dre informing Eminem that a portal from 2002 has opened up in the city, unleashing the early 2000s version of Eminem.
Eminem becomes his Rap Boy persona (also featured in “Without Me”) to battle the 2002 version of himself. The video features the two Eminems in a showdown.
Davidson comes in at the tail end as a new driver. “Trust me, I’m a great driver,” he says. “Don’t worry, I just got my license back.”

Shady’s back.
Pete Davidson, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Shane Gillis, Snoop Dogg and more make a special appearance in Eminem’s star-studded music video for “Houdini,” the first single from his upcoming 12th album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce).
In the final moments of the nearly five-minute video, Davidson appears alongside the yellow sports car Eminem is in and gets in the driver’s seat. “Trust me, I’m a great driver,” the former Saturday Night Live castmember tells the rapper. “Don’t worry. I just got my license back,” he adds, seemingly referencing his reckless driving charge for driving a Mercedes into a home in Beverly Hills last year.

Saturday Night Live won’t be in the demo itself when it premieres its 50th season in September, but when it comes to viewers 18-49, the NBC sketch show is still tops.
With the final numbers now in for the 2023-24 broadcast season, SNL is officially the season’s top rated entertainment series across broadcast and cable TV among viewers 18-49. For the fifth year running, it’s also TV’s highest-rated comedy series in the demo.
The good news for Lorne Michaels and team doesn’t end there. While most shows saw year-over-year ratings declines as younger audiences continue to migrate online, the 2023-24 season was an up year for SNL, with the show averaging 7.2 million viewers weekly, up 3% from last season.
The show’s top-rated installment this season was the Ryan Gosling/Chris Stapleton episode on April 13th, which attracted 8.9 million total linear viewers.

The season-long bilingual ad campaign launched Thursday, and will run across MLB Media outlets, social platforms, and broadcast partners.
“Baseball is a sport,” Hernández explains in a 90 second launch video (above), before continuing in Spanish. “But to be honest, for us, baseball is something else.”
“Home is something you carry with you,” he continues.

Saturday Night Live remains a hit with the youth.
The long-running NBC show, which just finished up Season 49, remained the number one entertainment series across ad-supported broadcast and cable in the 18-49 demo for the 2023-24 season.
It earned a 1.13 in the demo, beating out series such as Fox’s Krapopolis, which got a 1.1, and CBS’ Survivor and Tracker, which both got a 1.0.
This meant that the show was the number one comedy in the demo for the fifth season in a row.
This was, however, down from numbers posted over the last few years. For instance, in 2021, the show got a 2.06 in the demo. That year it drew 9 million total viewers overall in Live+7 numbers.
In the 2023/24 broadcast season, the show averaged 7.2 million viewers, per Nielsen. This was up 3% from last year.
These numbers, particularly among younger viewers, were presumably helped by hosts such as Pete Davidson, Bad Bunny,...

Saturday Night Live‘s James Austin Johnson channeled former president and felon Donald Trump in a conviction day reprise of his most famous SNL impression.
In a video posted on Instagram (see it below) Johnson, as Trump, wanders through a parking garage and rants about the Buca di Beppo Italian food chain restaurant and the high cost of pasta carbonara, seemingly avoiding the day’s hottest subject.
But not for too long. The Trump-like rambling finally finds its target.
“When you go to a Buca di Beppo, there’s so many wonderful things that are on walls and that there are on the table, frankly. If you look at the pope room, there’s a big head of the pope, and you should be able to play with it, I think, like an action figure or something. “At first, I thought they were a rock and roll band because they all kind of came in with bandanas and long hair and beards and stuff like that,” reveals Ron Howard about his first encounter with Jim Henson and his team behind the Muppets. For our recent webchat he says that it was his one-and-only 1970s encounter with Henson, adding “I did cross paths with him one time backstage at this crazy prime-time live variety show that ABC was trying to hatch as a regular series. They didn’t wind up continuing with it, but were both guests on an it, and for a brief moment, we kind of intersected.”
Howard is the director and producer behind the new Disney+ documentary “Jim Henson Idea Man” about the legendary founder of the Muppets. Henson’s children gave Howard and his documentary team full access to the family and company archives.

The Adam Sandler sequel film was confirmed last month, with much excitement surrounding the project, including potential guest stars in the cast.
While the Kansas City Chiefs star was already successful on the football field with his statistical achievements and Super Bowl rings, he became more of a celebrity due to dating a particular singer.
Travis’s romance with Taylor Swift became highly publicized, not only because of headlines but also because she attended multiple games throughout the season, including the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers.

For some reason, there has yet to be a mainstream Hollywood feature film about Donald Trump dramatizing any aspect of Trump's life, with an actor portraying him.
There have been countless documentaries about Trump, both for him and against him, and various comedians have portrayed him, including Alec Baldwin and later James Austin Johnson on Saturday Night Live.
The Comey Rule, a 2020 Showtime miniseries based on the memoirs of former FBI director James Comey, starred Brendan Gleeson as the 45th president, opposite Jeff Daniels as Comey.
At the same time, quite a few feature films, like The Oath in 2018 and Irresistible and The Hunt in 2020, have attempted to make dramatic hay out of the political controversies of the Trump years.
However, those who have not featured a Trump-based character have not referenced him directly.

Move over, “Dune,” there’s a new bang-able popcorn bucket in town.
Ryan Reynolds has revealed the new popcorn bucket created for “Deadpool and Wolverine” on social media Thursday — and the video is just as inappropriate as you’d expect from the R-rated superhero.
Inspired by the viral “Dune 2” popcorn bucket, the “Deadpool 3” receptacle is modeled after Wolverine’s head, but it has a comically oversized mouth you can fill with popcorn (or your movie snack of choice). Reynolds unveiled the bucket with a short video set to the epic song “Also Sprach Zarathustra” from “2001: A Space Odyssey.”
In the video, Deadpool slowly caresses the Wolverine popcorn bucket as the camera zooms in on its plastic features. Popcorn then falls from above and fills up the Wolverine mouth; and to top it all off, butter drizzles down his nose. It’s the latest viral marketing stunt for “Deadpool and Wolverine,...

When Los Espookys was cancelled in 2022, a chorus of disappointment rang out through the industry and from fans of the beloved show. It was the kind of news that threatened a certain sense of disillusionment, but unbeknownst to its fans at the time, creator Julio Torres had a lot up his sleeve. The writer, who first became known for his work on Saturday Night Live digital shorts like “Papyrus” and “The Actress,” was already hard at work on his first feature film and a new series. Problemista hit theaters this spring, and the new series became Fantasmas, which will open Atx TV Festival on May 30 before premiering on Max June 7.
The series, which Torres wrote, directed, and stars in, follows a character of the same name as he follows the trail of a lost earring. Torres spoke to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the premiere about navigating the industry’s...

The Deadpool & Wolverine novelty popcorn bucket has been revealed.
On Thursday, star Ryan Reynolds unveiled a suggestive ad (below) teasing the vaguely naughty popcorn bucket for Marvel’s upcoming superhero team-up. The bucket is a Wolverine helmet with a very wide open mouth. The move follows Marvel chief Kevin Fiege promising a “crude and rude” design for the bucket.
“Years from now they will look back at 2024 as when the War of the Popcorn Buckets began,” Reynolds wrote.
In the video, a gloved hand caresses the helmet, popcorn falls on its “face,” and then butter is dribbled down its side (we’re confident that no further explaining is required).
On the side of the bucket, “Designed by Deadpool” is scrawled in red.
Reynolds first teased the bucket minutes after the Deadpool & Wolverine teaser trailer dropped during the Super Bowl: “Wait til you see the Deadpool popcorn bucket,” he wrote.

Travis Kelce isn’t being shy about his Hollywood ambitions.
The three-time Super Bowl champ is publicly declaring he wants movie roles — and wants to be in one film in particular.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end said on Wednesday’s episode of his New Heights With Jason and Travis Kelce podcast, “I’m looking for movie deals.”
He then added — specifically talking about Netflix’s upcoming Happy Gilmore 2 — “I’ll do anything in the movie. I’ll be a part of it any way I possibly can.”
Kelce was recently spotted wearing a Happy Gilmore hat following the streamer announcing that Adam Sandler was making a sequel to his beloved 1996 aggro-golf comedy.
The statement follows Kelce getting his first dramatic role in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming FX horror drama Grotesquerie. The project’s star, Niecy Nash-Betts, recently confirmed Kelce’s involvement in the show in an Instagram video.

The line-up for the new series of Variety’s Actors On Actors has been revealed, with high profile movie performers interviewing each other.
Variety’s Actors On Actors is one of the most delightful series you can watch as a film fan. The central conceit is that two actors sit down for a natter about their work, often going off on tangents, acting as a unique insight into the industry.
Generally, the pairings are quite surprising, with the actors concerned often never having worked together and, in some cases, seeming quite random, but each one is fascinating and, usually, an absolute hoot. You can see Kate Winslet shooting the breeze with Gary Oldman, for example, or Beanie Feldstein with Florence Pugh – we are still waiting for Jason Statham to make an appearence.

Travis Kelce recently spoke out about being booed during an NBA playoff game. Kelce was in Dallas watching the Mavericks play. However, basketball fans did not seem to enjoy him being there. His teammate, Patrick Mahomes, was in fact not booed along with him. Could this be due to Travis Kelce dating Taylor Swift and gaining a lot of attention? Keep reading to find out more.
Travis Kelce Is Still A Fan Of Texas Sports
Travis Kelce may have been booed at the NBA playoff game, but that does not stop him from enjoying Texas sports.
“Dude, I grew up a huge Jason Witten [former Cowboys tight end] appreciator, the Cowboys were always the f—ing boys when they had Deion and and Emmitt … and dude, I used to wanna be a Stars [player], man. I did used to wanna be a Dallas Star, but I also wanted to be a Cowboy there for a little bit.

Writer/director Kevin S. Tenney’s 1986 horror film Witchboard is one of my all-time favorites, and I also enjoy the 1993 sequel Witchboard 2: The Devil’s Doorway, which has previously received a Blu-ray release from Olive Films. Yesterday, Tenney took to his Facebook account to share a picture of him with Witchboard 2 star Ami Dolenz and reveal that a Blu-ray re-release was in the works at some unspecified company… but, unfortunately, has been postponed indefinitely for reasons Tenney didn’t reveal.
Tenney wrote, “Hung out with the lovely and talented Ami Dolenz while she gave an on-camera interview in her living room for a Blu-ray re-release of Witchboard 2, which was due to come out earlier this year. This is the only on-camera interview she’s ever recorded for our film as far as I know, but unfortunately its release has been postponed indefinitely for the time being…“

The 49th season of Saturday Night Live featured 40 distinct musical guest segments that accounted for 12.2% of the season’s total running time. The 20 artists collectively achieved about two hours and 28 minutes of screen time, averaging out to almost seven and a half minutes apiece. Scroll down to see how each stacked up against one another.
Note that the screen times listed here for Bad Bunny and Dua Lipa, who each pulled double duty this season as both host and musical guest, do not include their sketch appearances (those numbers can be found in our host ranking).
Also not factored into this ranking are cameos that ten of this season’s musical guests made during their respective episodes
Our screen time data is calculated using a method that prioritizes face time, meaning that any contiguous (off-screen but in-scene) moments and practically all partial body appearances do not count.

She’s worked with some of the biggest names in pop culture over the six years she’s spent on the cast of Saturday Night Live, but there’s one would-be host who remains Heidi Gardner’s white whale.
In a new interview with her hometown paper, Kansas City’s The Pitch, Gardner was quick to answer when asked who’s on her must-have host list. “Obviously, [Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick] Mahomes would be incredible to get,” she said.
Referencing Travis Kelce’s 2023 SNL hosting stint, Gardner added “Just the fact that a Kansas City Chief hosted SNL is so cool. I’m probably pressing my luck trying to get another one.”
It’s not exactly a pipe dream. Mahomes recently let slip that he turned down hosting the show this season, but said that it remains on his bucket list.

Ramy Youssef’s latest HBO special, “Ramy Youssef: More Feelings,” had been in the works for years — and had evolved over time as Youssef got in a relationship and eventually got married. But some of his routine also became very more front and center for audiences in the wake of the war in Gaza.
“There’s stuff that I do touch on, a tightrope walk of taking really big concepts, and then making them super personal,” Youssef tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast. “With our show [Hulu’s “Ramy”], we had already done that with Palestine and Israel. And in my stand up, I had already done versions of it. But in the last seven or eight months, it became something that has risen to the surface for everybody. When you’re taking your time to talk about it for 10 minutes in a set, it’s important to you. On a show,...

Universally beloved figures are increasingly rare these days, with a distressing number of our former heroes having been outed as one kind of monster or another in recent years. Jim Henson is a notable exception. The creator of the Muppets remains as revered today as he was during his too-short life, an enduring icon of wholesomeness whose legend has only grown since he died in 1990 at the age of 53. Among his legion of admirers is Ron Howard, whose documentary “Jim Henson Idea Man” premiered at Cannes earlier this month and will be available to stream on Disney+ this Friday.

In 2005, Hamilton and Girls5Eva star Renee Elise Goldsberry went back home to Chicago to visit her dad. She accompanied him to church, where the reverend made a to-do of her presence. “We have a guest,” he announced to the congregation, and then proceeded to tick off her professional accomplishments, which, at that point, included a soap opera and a stint on Broadway.
Goldsberry didn’t immediately recognize herself in the introduction. “I’m looking around, like, “Who’s in the house when I’m here?” she says. “Because the year I had, I’d had two very painful miscarriages. One was in the second trimester. It was terribly painful.”
She stood up and waved, nevertheless, but it served as a stark reminder that describing her as a Tony winner or a Grammy winner or whatever else her IMDb profile offers is not fully representative of who she is. “And quite honestly,...

Ego Nwodim just completed her sixth season as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live,” so what is it that keeps her coming back year after year to NBC’s sketch comedy series? “For me, what is so special about the show is the unpredictability of every week … and that keeps the excitement and the fun alive,” she tells us. “You can never really find yourself in a routine or rut, because it resets every single week, and that’s really special about the show. I don’t know that there are many other jobs like that, certainly not as a performer in the same way.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

Bob Dylan returned to the city that gave him his start this weekend—but he sure looked a lot like Saturday Night Live player James Austin Johnson.
To mark Dylan’s 83rd birthday, Johnson brought his impression of the legendary singer/songwriter to Washington Square Park.
“Made up a Theme Time Radio Hour segment for Bob Dylan’s Birthday at Washington Square park,” Johnson wrote on Instagram alongside a clip of the performance. Theme Time Radio Hour was a radio show Dylan hosted on Xm Satellite Radio from 2006-2009.
In the clip, Johnson-as-Dylan waxes reflective on summer staples like baseball games, suntan lotion, and carnivals—alongside SNL writer Mike Dicenzo and accompanied by musician Matt Sucich on guitar.

Robert Smigel has been responsible for some of the most memorable and inspired late-night TV of the last four decades. From his long association with Saturday Night Live, to his creative partnership with Conan O’Brien, the man who gives voice to Triumph the Insult Comic Dog is a late night hall of famer if ever there was one.
In this episode of Inside Late Night, Smigel joins Mark Malkoff for a free-flowing conversation about his many years at 30 Rock, from the origins of two Steve Martin sketches that are among his proudest, to the time he says Lorne Michaels forgave him for “almost breaking” the show.
The two also discuss the evolution of the Late Night with Conan O’Brien remote, the art of the pre-show audience warm-up and how it contributed to Conan making Late Night his own, backstage tensions at SNL, and more.

Two decades and countless rewatches later, I'm still not sure if "Love, Actually" is a good Christmas movies or if it's just the most interesting one to talk about. If you've seen the movie — or even just been online around Christmastime in the past decade — you'll know all the familiar talking points. Fans can't believe that little kid ended up in "Game of Thrones," or that anyone could call Natalie fat. They think Laura Linney's character deserved better, but also, it's good to see a movie admitting that the holidays can be heartbreaking. The Colin Firth plot still makes romantics swoon (even though it has its faults), but Alan Rickman's character is a total snake.
Every subplot of Richard Curtis' ensemble film is worth talking about, but 21 years on, it seems clear that one gets discussed more than any other: the limply written love triangle between Andrew Lincoln's Mark,...

The Garfield Movie has arrived in theaters ahead of Memorial Day to kick off the summer fun alongside Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The animated feature film stars the titular orange tabby cat in a coming-of-age story based on Jim Davis’ iconic cartoon strips and an adapted script from David Reunolds (Finding Nemo) based on an earlier draft from Paul Kaplan & Mark Torgove. Mark Dindal (Chicken Little) directs the creature feature.
With Chris Pratt bringing Garfield to life and Samuel L. Jackson voicing his streetwise and long-list father Vic, the film boasts quite an ensemble of voice actors that further contribute to Garfield’s adventure. Ted Lasso alumni Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham lend their familiar vocals to the movie as do Saturday Night Live alumni Bowen Yang and Cecily Strong.

The season may be over, but several Saturday Night Live cast members are already staging a reunion… on the ballfield.
Cast member Heidi Gardner is co-hosting this year’s Big Slick charity weekend in her hometown of Kansas City May 30-June 1, and she’s bringing five of her current co-stars along with her.
So far, Devon Walker, Punkie Johnson, Ego Nwodim, James Austin Johnson, and Molly Kearney are all confirmed to appear as guests across the weekend, which consists of a VIP event on Thursday, a celebrity softball game on Friday, and the “Big Slick Party & Show” on Saturday.
The centerpiece of the weekend is the celebrity softball game, which will be held at the Kansas City Royals’ Kauffman Stadium on Friday, May 31, preceding the Royals’ MLB game against the San Diego Padres. Saturday Night Live’s 49th season cast consisted of 12 repertory performers and five featured players who were each seen on screen for an average of one hour, 20 minutes and 19 seconds. Some successfully or very nearly clocked in beyond two hours, while others fell short of reaching the one-hour mark. Scroll down to see how all 17 regulars (plus the three members of Please Don’t Destroy) stack up against each other.
A reminder: LateNighter’s screen time data is calculated using a method that prioritizes face time, meaning that any contiguous (off-screen but in-scene) moments and practically all partial body appearances do not count. Screen time in opening credits, bumpers and goodnights are not included, nor do those portions factor into our assessment of each episode’s running time.
