Glen Powell may be blowing up thanks to roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone But You, but like any other actor, he struggled on his way to the top and lost out on some major roles, including Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
While chatting with GQ UK, Glen Powell spoke of coming “agonizingly” close to playing Han Solo, only to drop the ball at the last moment. “I can joke about it now,” he said, “[but] I blew that final audition.” The role ultimately went to Alden Ehrenreich, but with Powell’s charisma, you can see why Disney was interested in him in the first place. The actor also said he screwed up auditions for Captain America and Cowboys & Aliens over the years, but he’s accepted that it just wasn’t meant to be.

Christopher and Jonathan Nolan aka the Nolan brothers have been an integral part of the movie industry for many years now. A director and a writer, they created 2008’s iconic The Dark Knight together, among other things — and according to Jonathan Nolan, it was that experience of working with his brother that helped him adapt Fallout. Otherwise, Prime Video’s latest sensation wouldn’t have existed now.
Fallout Creator Is Cautious with Big Franchises
At an FYC screening of Fallout’s first episode, Christopher Nolan interviewed his brother Jonathan about the new TV show.
He asked about his brother’s approach to adapting a massive and well-established franchise, specifically, a video game one, to small screens, and the writer admitted he was very self-conscious with it.
“There is room to do some writing in there. I think there’s always extraordinary respect for the Harry Potter films, for Lord of the Rings films…...

“You break the rules and become a hero,” Wanda Maximoff tells Stephen Strange at the start of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. “I do it and I become the enemy… doesn’t seem fair.”
That line from should confuse some viewers. After all, such rule breaking didn’t occur in 2016’s Doctor Strange, to which Multiverse of Madness is a sequel. It happened in Avengers: Infinity War. And Wanda’s rule-breaking happened in WandaVision. During the drive to Avengers: Endgame, this type of comprehensive world-building was a feature and not a bug of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Glen Powell's star is on the rise. After wowing moviegoers with Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone But You, he'll take centre stage this summer in Hit Man and Twisters. Surely a superhero role is next?

If there is a television series out there synonymous with the word “Iconic,” it has to be Friends. While the comedy series was released all the way back in 1994, it has managed to pass the test of time and is as incredible today as it was decades ago. Whether it is Joey, Chandler, Ross, Pheobe, Monica, or Rachel, the six fictional people were more than just characters; they were our friends.

This post contains spoilers for "Metropolis" and Tim Burton's "Batman."
The colossal Gotham Cathedral, which stands more than 800 feet tall and towers over every other skyscraper in Gotham, is turned into a battleground towards the end of Tim Burton's "Batman." The director's distinct, often eccentric visual aesthetic directly informs the film's moody, noir-tinted visuals, the atypical camera angles and editing choices adding more palpable depth to the climactic Gotham Cathedral confrontation between Batman (Michael Keaton) and Joker (Jack Nicholson).
The cathedral's massive gargoyles, traditional symbols of warding off evil, take on new meaning as Joker toys with journalist Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger), who is forced to climb the rickety steps and play along with Joker's twisted game. There are many reasons why this scene feels singular — be it Batman stumbling over the pews and knocking them in his weakened, vulnerable state or the Joker dropping Vicki's shoe down the...

Despite a historically accurate reading of Hollywood’s storied past, great directors and filmmakers make it their business to break and set records with their career’s work. Christopher Nolan is invariably one such director who continues to defy the laws of physics in his films just as he manipulates the laws of human psychology when it comes to breaking box office records.
However, it is rare to find a combination of good filmmakers with complete artistic and creative taste who don’t eventually fall prey to the studio system. Return on investments and profit guides the business models of modern-day Hollywood and to keep making films, it becomes imperative that directors, creatives, and actors all fall in line with the company policy.

It has been 84 years since Catwoman made her debut in the DC Universe; she has been an influential character within the Batman franchise. Over 8 decades, Selina Kyle has been showcased as a cat burglar, a villain, sometimes a hero, and having a romantic interest in The Caped Crusader. Since the Batman franchise has been rebooted over the years, several big names have portrayed The Cat, and each one of them has brought something new to the table, adding to the Cat Burglar’s antihero legacy.

Batman: The Caped Crusader has gotten fans excited about Bruce Timm’s novel take on the Dark Knight. The animated show will take Bruce Wayne and other aspects of the Batman mythos and set them in the 40s, a time when Batman’s modern gadgets and gizmos simply did not exist.
Batman: Caped Crusader
Apart from Batman being stripped of all his gadgets, Caped Crusader will also be giving its other characters a slick 40’s makeover, among which is Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bruce Timm, co-creator of the show, revealed how the design of Catwoman was made distinct from her previous iterations.

Bruce Timm talked about how the characters that he and his team were introducing Caped Crusader needed to be different and feel as dated as the time they were in.

Hiromu Arakawa's "Fullmetal Alchemist" is one of the best manga/anime ever drawn. It's one of my favorites, and stands out among the crowded "battle shōnen" demographic. Rather than the fantastic Japanese setting of contemporary series like "Naruto" and "Bleach," "Fullmetal Alchemist" is more inspired by the West (though not without its translation hiccups).
Set in a version of 20th century Europe where alchemy is fact, not fiction, "Fullmetal Alchemist" follows brothers Edward and Alphonse "Ed and Al" Elric. The two young alchemists tried to bring their mother back to life, breaking the "ultimate taboo" of human transmutation. The experiment backfired, robbing Ed of his right arm and left leg and Al of his whole body. In their disabled states, they embark on a quest to find the Philosopher's Stone. The Stone can bypass the fundamental law of alchemy and, the brothers believe, restore their bodies.

Batman: Arkham Shadow is set to come to Meta Quest 3 in the last quarter of 2024 and gives Batman fans hope to enjoy their favorite superhero again instead of the truly indiscernible way in which they saw the caped crusader being killed in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
The terrible treatment meted out to the World’s Greatest Detective in the latest Suicide Squad game had left a sour taste for most fans as they saw him being capped by Harley Quinn like she would do to some common thug. The only downside to the upcoming game? It will be exclusive to Meta Quest 3.

Lady Gaga has been born a star but now, she’s transforming into DC comic book character Harley Quinn for “Joker: Folie à Deux.”
The Oscar and Grammy winner teased her upcoming role alongside fellow Academy Award winner Joaquin Phoenix in the sequel to 2019 Batman prequel “Joker.” As Phoenix reprises his titular role as Arthur Fleck Aka the Joker, Gaga will play Harley from the “Batman the Animated Series” origins, as a bit different from Margot Robbie’s version of the character.
“You know my version of Harley is mine and it’s very authentic to this movie and these characters,” Gaga told Access Hollywood. “I’ve never done anything like I’ve done in this movie before, so it’s all going to be completely brand new and really fun.”
Margot Robbie brought Harley to life first in “Suicide Squad,” followed by spinoff “Birds of Prey” and quasi-reboot “The Suicide Squad.

Masters of the Universe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are two franchises that had a massive impact on my childhood – and now Dark Horse Comics has revealed that they will be bringing characters from those franchises together in a four-part comic book mini-series called Turtles of Grayskull! Super Hero Hype reports that the first issue of Turtles of Grayskull will be reaching store shelves on September 25th – and they also got their hands on three different covers for that issue, which you can check out at the bottom of this article!
Longtime He-Man writer Tim Seeley has written Turtles of Grayskull, with Freddie E. Williams II (who previously drew the Injustice/Masters of the Universe and Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossovers) providing the artwork. Space Ghost colorist Andrew Dalhouse is also on board, with the lettering coming from AndWorld Design.

For over a decade, Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise were the dream Hollywood couple. The actors who had a fairytale romance on the sets of their film Days of Thunder, tied the knot in 1990 and seemed to have the perfect life until their shocking divorce in 2001. Kidman subsequently went on to marry musician Keith Urban in 2006.

Nicole Kidman played Hollywood’s leading lady for several years, but the actress wanted more from her profession other than being the eye candy. This is what she felt after starring in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever in 1995.

Hollywood’s beauty queen Nicole Kidman has been thoroughly successful throughout her more than forty-year-old and counting career, scoring roles in nearly every genre there is, including the superhero ones as well. Decades before starring in Dceu’s Aquaman film series, she also scored the role of Dr. Chase Meridian alongside Val Kilmer’s Caped Crusader in 1995’s Batman Forever.

But, surprisingly enough, she was never supposed to get cast in that movie because the role was written for someone else. However, she eventually ended up making her way into the movie and it was all because of the film’s director, Joel Schumacher, who was so obsessed with working with her that he cast her in the role despite claiming she was not fit to play the seductive doctor!

Star Wars: The Acolyte premieres on Disney+ on June 4, and the first reactions from critics have started finding their way online (via SFFGazette.com).
These are made up of a mix of people who attended a splashy premiere for a screening of the two-part premiere and reviewers who were sent the first four instalments to view online. It's worth noting then that not everyone here will have been caught up in the excitement of yesterday evening's event, meaning these verdicts may hold more weight than usual.
Regardless, the reactions so far are overwhelmingly positive. It sounds like the mystery elements work well, as do The Acolyte's practical stunts and the new ways this series utilises the Force. The cast, and particularly Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-jae, is also praised.

After a stellar 1989, the Hollywood box office of 1990 was expected to be even better – but the film industry got taught some tough lessons.
Browsing the worldwide box office charts for 1989, and many a major studio executive would have been stroking their chin with some degree of comfort. The same old was working. The new things were working. Everything was getting better. The Christmas party was clearly going to be on the impressive side.
What 1989 had proven, after all, was the growing feeling that big stuff worked too. Tim Burton’s Batman had firmly introduced the idea of the huge opening weekend at the box office, and that a movie could become a cultural phenomenon. That patrons would leave the cinema and promptly seek out the soundtrack, the computer game, the book, the T-shirt, the novelty undercrackers.

While Christian Bale and Robert Pattinson may have their fair share of fans as Batman, for Jennifer Garner, there is no debate: Ben Affleck is the best superhero. The former couple first met on the set of Pearl Harbor, but it wasn’t until they starred in Daredevil together that their friendship blossomed into romance.
The chemistry between Affleck and Garner on screen was palpable, but it was their real-life connection that truly strengthened their status as a Hollywood power couple. From their fairytale wedding in 2005 to the birth of their three beautiful children, the ex-pair seemed to have it all.

Kevin Conroy has portrayed Batman more often than anyone else, appearing in a variety of animated films, TV series, and, of course, video games. Part of what made the late actor so iconic was his distinctive way of delivering the richness of dynamic dialogue that became essential to the Batman character.
The actor has the ability to turn any line from the Caped Crusader into gold, even lines delivered by other Batman actors. On that note, back in 2017, Conroy spoke with Rob Paulsen on Nerdist’s Talkin’ Toons podcast and skillfully narrated Christian Bale’s epic speech from The Dark Knight’s climactic scene.

Although Oscar-winner Gary Oldman has had numerous memorable roles in his life, most fans will know him as either Sirius Black from the Harry Potter film series or as James Gordon from Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Oldman made both these roles his own, but Sirius Black is especially noteworthy here, as Oldman remains the only actor who portrayed the character to date, so most Harry Potter fans actually have a tough time imagining anyone else in the role besides Oldman. Still, from some recent comments, it seems that Oldman himself wasn’t satisfied with the role, and that has sparked some controversy.
During a podcast talk in December 2023, Oldman said the following about his interpretation of the beloved character:
“I think my work is mediocre in. No, I do. Maybe if I had read the books like Alan [Rickman], if I had got ahead of the curve, if I had known what’s coming,...

Unlike the big screen adaptation of Lee Child’s acclaimed novel, which saw Tom Cruise playing the titular character, the Amazon adaptation found a book-accurate actor for the series. Considering Jack Reacher’s 6.5 ft height is one of his most recognizable features from the books, Alan Ritchson, who stands at 6.3 ft, successfully embodied the intimidating nature of the character.

Oldman might’ve found playing Sirius Black a bit more surface-level than his usual characters. Way back in 2004, he was pretty upfront that he only took the role because it was available work. The Harry Potter franchise’s appeal to kids was also a bonus seeing as Oldman had a family of his own.
“Well, I needed the work – that’s the honest answer,” Oldman once told The Telegraph (via Hpana). “I haven’t worked for a while, a couple of years. So I thought it would be nice to get back to work and earn some money. Pay the bills.

Everywhere on social media, you read comments from readers lamenting our modern culture.
They long for the good old days when comedy was offensive, antiheroes said whatever they were thinking, and actors were judged by their undeniable talent rather than the biggest mistakes of their careers.
Plotlines were more important than representation. Complicated characters were more important than "Wokeness."
Back then, they say, it didn't matter if a character was black or gay. All that mattered was the story.
We watched because a filmmaker had something important to say, not because every race and sexual orientation appeared and was treated with respect.
We listened because regardless of what anyone said about a comedian, at least he was funny!
Unsurprisingly, many of the same social critics would also say no movies from the 2010-2030 era will be remembered as classics 20 or 30 years from now.

Batman: Caped Crusader will be the latest take on the Dark Knight of Gotham by DC Animation extraordinaire, Bruce Timm. Timm has been responsible for co-creating works like Batman: The Animated Series, The New Adventures of Batman, and Batman Beyond. But perhaps the most significant contribution the creator has made to the Batman mythos is the original character that he made for his adaptation of Batman, the ever whimsical villain-turned-ally for Batman, Harley Quinn.
Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series
Harleen Quinzel was a simple psychologist at Arkham Asylum when she was assigned to and fell in love with The Joker, who turned her into his loyal and adoring girlfriend, despite all the abuses he hurled at her over the course of their relationship.

Disney Marvel Studios’ first R-rated release, Deadpool & Wolverine, is already heating up eight weeks before its debut, having already collected some $8M in first day ticket sales. $8M is pretty remarkable for an R-rated movie two months before release. The Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-starring threequel directed by Shawn Levy opens July 26.
While there are no direct comps on Deadpool & Wolverine ticket sales in post-Covid history, its current cash bests the 24-hour advance ticket sales of Warner Bros/DC’s The Batman ($6.5M), Disney Marvel Studio’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ($6M) and Lionsgate’s R-rated John Wick: Chapter 4 ($1.4M). My Adventures With Superman is part of a heroic lineage of shows that follow the Big Blue Boy Scout of Metropolis but still fall short in one area. Superman: The Animated Series still remains one of the best iterations of the character and his mythos, and not just because it is an important iteration of the character. It is also down to the fact that Superman got to play around in a connected universe with other heroes, especially Batman.
My Adventures With Superman Season 2 | Adult Swim
Superman: The Animated Series shared a universe with Batman: The Animated Series and the two Justice League shows helmed by Bruce Timm. This facilitated some crossovers, such as when Bruce Wayne showed up in Superman: The Animated Series, which added a lot to the show, and was considered one of its best episodes.

Christopher Nolan revealed to Empire in an interview that his filmography owes a lot to James Bond films. The director is known for his often non-linear narrative and a commitment to making groundbreaking films, and now it seems a lot of that comes from a love for Bond films.
Batman Begins | Warner Brothers
While inspiration that Nolan has taken from the franchise is clear in films like Tenet, there is another film from the director that takes clear cues from the Bond franchise: his Batman trilogy, starring Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne and Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordon.

Daniel Craig as James Bond in No Time To Die | MGM
Bond films usually have some of the best spy action ever put to the big screen, and deal with balancing cerebral plots with action set pieces that are also reminiscent of the spy thrillers of old.

The actor played the role of Sirius Black, the titular character’s godfather, starting with the 2004 film The Prisoner of Azkaban. Despite earning critical acclaim, he called his own performance in the franchise “mediocre,” arguing that it could have been much better if he had read J.K. Rowling’s original book series.
