If Sir Elton John‘s career had only spanned the 1970s, he would still be a music legend, an icon of glam and progressive rock. Fortunately, he forged on, segueing into each new era of rock and branching into film and Broadway with comparable success and his signature aplomb and style. We’ve undertaken a nearly impossible task — narrowing a huge catalogue of memorable compositions down to the 25 best.
John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on March 25, 1947, and showed an affinity for playing the piano at a young age. In 1967, he answered an ad for songwriters and met Bernie Taupin, which led to a long and successful collaboration, with Taupin writing lyrics to which John composed music. It took a few years of struggling, but in 1970 they had their first top ten hit with “Your Song.” In 1972, “Honky Chateau” became his first of seven consecutive number one albums in a three-year period.

Recently, The Kardashians star, Kris Jenner, was called out by fans for her ridiculous alterations to her face. While it isn’t new to see Kris’ face shift, it is becoming laughable for her to try to play it off as normal. In a recent photo, fans are triggered by the amusing new veneers and bad nose job she has now.
Kris Jenner Is Notorious For Shape Shifting
Without a doubt, this isn’t the first time that The Kardashians star, Kris Jenner, has been called out for changing her appearance. When a person is rich and famous, it is tempting to frequently touch up areas that have even the slightest imperfection. Undeniably, Kris has had her fair share of shape-shifting and facial surgeries over the years. Likewise, fans believe she is using the popular diabetic drug, Ozempic, to diminish any extra fat that tries to sneak up on her.

Disney has given fans some of the best happy endings in animated films, but it also gave the most heartbreaking scenes such as that of The Lion King. Mufasa’s death wounded many hearts, but there’s actually an alternate ending where it would carve a permanent scar.
The Lion King / Walt Disney Pictures
The story of The Lion King was adapted from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, one of the most famous English plays of all time. The early conception of the movie had a lot of brainstorming, and they decided to go with the less gruesome ending.
The Lion King’s Original Ending Was Too Dark For Disney Audiences
The early storyboards of The Lion King in 1993 revealed that Simba and Scar had an intense duel on Pride Rock, and the latter manages to throw the former off the cliff.

Kanye West and his wife Bianca Censori have returned to Italy and are already causing a stare with her latest ensemble. Last year, the couple made headlines for a dramatic boat incident that saw West expose his butt in front of tourists, with many calling for their arrest over the indecent exposure.
The "Vultures" rapper had a lavish wedding with ex-wife Kim Kardashian in Italy a decade ago. On his recent return, he and Censori displayed behavior that led a body language expert to suspect that he was making a subtle reference to his former wedding.
Kanye West and Bianca Censori have become very known for their daring ensembles.

There was a time when Disney made ideal family movies that weren’t animated, or live action reboots of animated films. In fact, there was a time when Walt Disney would take on original live action true stories designed for the whole family to enjoy.
Now, thanks to the efforts of director Joachim Ronning and mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s clout and dedication, the studio has an echo of its past with Young Woman And The Sea, the true biopic and inspiring saga of Trudy Ederle.
In 1926, she became the first woman to swim the English Channel from France to England. Ederle’s remarkable achievement has nearly been forgotten and overlooked in the 100 years since it happened. But thanks to Glenn Stout’s 2009 book, Young Woman And The Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered The English Channel And Inspired The World, and A-List screenwriter Jeff Nathanson who discovered the book while rummaging through a bookstore one day and was convinced it would be a great film, the movie’s long journey to the screen is a successful one.
It still took years even for Bruckheimer to convince Disney to make it, and it is getting only a limited theatrical release before streaming. But hopefully, the inevitable word of mouth for this crowd-pleaser will make it more than limited. This is a big screen film that deserves to be seen with an audience, and not lost in the streaming larder. It also proves that they do make ’em like they used to, at least occasionally.
Basically following the linear story of Trudy (Olive Abercrombie plays the young Trudy), we see her early family life, and then her desire to make a difference for girls. The place she could do that was in the pool, an effort supported by her mother (Jeanette Hain), who knew from a previous ocean tragedy that learning to swim was important for her kids. That not only went for Trudy (Daisy Ridley), but also her older sister Meg (Tilda Cobham-Hervey), who would go on to become her sister’s biggest supporter, even on the boat that accompanied Trudy as she took on the English Channel.
Before that happened in 1926, Trudy would triumph and win a gold medal at the 1924 Paris Olympics. But taking on this task thought only possible for the male-dominated society of the time was something she became determined to do. It is no spoiler to say that indeed, on her second try, she did it even when it appeared she might be dead towards the end of the journey when she got lost in the darkness and separated from those keeping track of her. And in so doing this unheard-of feat, Trudy, who was partially deaf due to a childhood illness, beat previous male records by nearly two hours at 14 hours and 31 minutes (it held for 35 years), and this New York native got the largest victory parade ever in the history of the city. Ever.
But the crux of the story is seeing the perseverance it took to achieve this milestone, a belief that you never give up. Ridley simply embodies that spirit of this young woman (who eventually went deaf and died in 2003 at age 98) and delivers a memorable performance, including complete authenticity in her quest. Cobham-Hervey is excellent as well, and the parents are nicely played by Kim Bodnia as Henry, a dedicated German-born butcher and father who feared for his daughter, but then became a #1 fan, and especially by Hain, superb as the wise and determined mother, Gertrude, with a mind of her own and the will to do what is best for her family.
Stephen Graham is excellent and a lot of fun as the most unlikely of coaches, a man who, in 1911, became the second person to swim the Channel, and now is key to helping Trudy make history.
As you might expect with a Bruckheimer production, it looks magnificent, with excellent cinematography both above and below the waves (Oscar Faura was the Dp), production design from Nora Takacs Ekberg, and a sweeping score by Amelia Warner. Pulling all this off with so many water scenes could not have been easy, but Ronning, well-versed in water from Kon-Tiki and Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (which he did for Bruckheimer) was clearly the right choice for the job. It looks sensational.
Producers are Bruckheimer, Nathanson, and Chad Oman.

Short answer: Disney Plus does not offer a free trial of its own, but viewers can still save big money by bundling it with other streaming services. Sign Up Now $7.99+ / month disneyplus.com
Get Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ for just $14.99 a month ($12 savings).
It’s always better when a streaming service offers a free trial, but viewers already know exactly what they’re getting with Disney+: exclusive access to new shows and movies from the Marvel and Star Wars franchises like “The Acolyte” and “X-Men '97.” That gives Disney+ the confidence to offer its service without any kind of free trial.
Fortunately, there are several bundling options available with Disney+, and viewers can save up to 40% off Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ by subscribing to all three.
What Disney+ Plans Are Available?

The soundtrack to The Crow showed up in stores two months before the actual movie played in multiplexes. That should give you an idea of how popular soundtracks were back in the day.
During the ‘90s, soundtracks were usually vital to whatever big-screen attraction was hitting theaters at the time.

John Musker has hit out at Disney for prioritising politics over plot in their live-action remakes. The 70-year-old animator has helmed classic movies such as 'The Little Mermaid' and 'Aladdin' for the studio and has urged film chiefs to put "compelling stories and characters" before political agendas in their current work.John told the Spanish publication El Pais: "We weren't trying to be woke, although I understand the criticism."The classic Disney films didn't start out trying to have a message. They wanted you to get involved in the characters and the story and the world, and I think that's still the heart of it."You don't have to exclude agendas, but you have to first create characters who you sympathise with and who are compelling."I think they need to do a course correction a bit in terms of putting the message secondary, behind entertainment and compelling story and engaging characters.

Elton John was not feeling the original choices in The Lion King to sing his Oscar-winning ballad, Can You Feel The Love Tonight?
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nathan Lane revealed that early versions of the animated classic saw Timon and Pumbaa singing all of Can You Feel the Love Tonight?
“Originally, we sang the whole thing,” Lane said. “Elton John was mortified that the warthog and the meerkat were singing it. He said, ‘The reason I wrote the score was because I wanted to have a Disney love song. I didn’t want it to be sung by the rat and the pig.'”
There is an original rat/pig version floating around with Lane and Ernie Sabella, who voiced Pumbaa.
“We did [record] a version,” Lane said. “We sang the whole thing in our character voices. It wasn’t like we were going to do our legit Broadway version.

Barry Jenkins, the acclaimed director of Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk, recently found himself at the center of a social media storm after sharing the first trailer for his new project, Mufasa: The Lion King. When a fan claimed Jenkins was “too talented” for Disney’s allegedly devoid-of-soul machine, Jenkins was quick to defend his involvement. “There is nothing soulless about The Lion King,” Jenkins replied. “For decades children have sat in theatres all over the world experiencing collective grief for the first time, engaging Shakespeare for the first time, across aisles in myriad languages. A most potent vessel

The darkness enveloped me, and despite the summer heat outside, the air in the building was cool. I sat in silence, intently focused, anticipating what happened next, but not quite prepared. I tensed up upon seeing the spectral woman directly ahead of me. She silently floated, translucent and seemingly unaware — until at last facing me and lunging with a guttural growl as her face distorted into some horrific entity.

There’s a moment near the end of Latvian animation director Gints Zilbalodis’ “Flow” that powerfully tugs at the heartstrings. It’s when the film’s central character, a black cat who you’ve come to have a profound emotional connection with, rediscovers a lost ball that he and his animal friends (especially a lemur) had been playing with earlier in the movie. He thought he’d never see it again. And suddenly he does.
Sometimes, lost things can be found again.
If you thought that emotion elicited without cloying manipulation was something lost in animation, it is found again in “Flow” as well. A movie brimming with sentiment but not sentimentality, this is one of the most moving animated films in recent memory, and, beyond that, groundbreaking too. The anthropomorphic animal characters of 21st century U.S. animated features have nothing on the animal stars of “Flow,” who never...

Billy Eichner is finally getting to live out his childhood dream of a being in a major stage musical.
The “Bros” star is making his Hollywood Bowl singing debut this weekend during “The Lion King’s” 30th anniversary live-to-film concert.
“We just had our first official rehearsal all together this morning,” Eichner told me Wednesday afternoon. “The scope and size of it really knocked me out. If I can get through it, I think it’s going to be really fun.”
Eichner, who played Timon in the 2019 “Lion King” remake and reprises the role in the upcoming prequel film “Mufasa: The Lion King,” isn’t allowed to say what he’ll be performing. But it has already been announced that the two-night run — May 24 and 25 — will also feature “Lion King” veterans Nathan Lane, Jeremy Irons, Ernie Sabella, Heather Headley, Lebo M and Jason Weaver, as well as Egot winner Jennifer Hudson,...

Steven Spielberg was associated with a dinosaur film even before Jurassic Park came out in 1993. While the legendary filmmaker revolutionized cinema with the incredible dinosaur franchise, it was not his first time in the genre. He also acted as a producer in the 1988 animated film The Land Before Time.
Despite being a fun-filled animated dinosaur film for kids, The Land Before Time spoke on some mature topics like homelessness. However, if it was not for Spielberg, the film was also about to carry a more violent and darker tone, unlike a traditional children’s film.
A still from The Land Before Time I Amblin Entertainment
Some of the saddest sequences in films like The Lion King and Up have proven that even animated films come with loads of emotions and tearful scenes. But Steven Spielberg felt that the villain in The Land Before Time was becoming too scary to be in a children’s movie.

The Lion King – Featuring the voices of Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala and Donald Glover as Simba, Disney’s “The Lion King” is directed by Jon Favreau. © 2019 Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved. When Disney made the original animated version of The Lion King, the studio invested heavily in the film’s music, enlisting Elton John and lyricist Tim Rice for the film’s original songs and Hans Zimmer for its score. Of course, it was an investment that paid off handsomely — the soundtrack album has sold more than 7 million copies, and all four of The Lion King’s Oscar nominations were for the film’s music. When the studio decided to remake the film in 2019, director Jon Favreau was faced with a lot of choices about how he wanted to make his film different than the original. At the time of the film’s release, Favreau told us he realized that,...

Attendance for Broadway’s just-ended 2023-2024 season held roughly steady with last year even as it remains nearly 17% below pre-pandemic levels, according to box office figures released today by the Broadway League.
The year-end stats indicate that the 71 Broadway productions on the boards from May 22, 2023, to May 19, 2024, grossed a combined $1.54 billion – $1,539,278,706, to be exact- with total attendance at about 12.3 million.
The dollar figure represents a very small slip in box office tallies from last season – about 2% from the $1,577,586,897 in 2022-2023. Total attendance was up less than a percentage point from last season.
This year’s total attendance indicates that about 90% of all available seats were filled, compared to last year’s 88%. Average ticket price for the season just ended was $125.27, about 2% lower that last season’s $128.43.
While roughly even with post-pandemic figures, the numbers continue to indicate that Broadway has yet to make a full recovery from the 18-month Covid shutdown.

With the release of “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” on May 10, this year’s Best Visual Effects Oscar race just got a lot more interesting. That’s because we’re almost guaranteed to get three, possibly even four, movies in the race that are follow-ups to previous Visual Effects nominees. “Apes” is likely to be the fourth movie in its franchise nominated for the innovative performance capture used to help create the film’s photo-realistic apes. Three previous films, starring Andy Serkis, were nominated for Oscars in the category in 2011, 2014, and 2017, but none of them won.
The work done by director Wes Ball and his team has made “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” a serious contender in multiple below-the-line categories, not just visual effects. Its production design and sound are equally impressive. But the academy branch that’s most likely to be impressed will be the...

In 1994, you couldn't escape "Forrest Gump." The Robert Zemeckis-directed comedy-drama starring Tom Hanks was huge — it hauled in $678.2 million at the worldwide box office, which made it the second-highest-grossing film of '94 (the first-highest grossing film was "The Lion King"). From there, "Forrest Gump" would go on to Oscar glory, winning six Academy Awards — Best Picture, Best Director for Robert Zemeckis, Best Actor for Tom Hanks, Best Adapted Screenplay for Eric Roth, Best Visual Effects, and Best Film Editing for Arthur Schmidt. It was a cultural phenomenon, and TV reruns would eventually make it even more ubiquitous.
The story follows Forrest Gump, a man with an Iq of 75 who somehow stumbles through several major events in American history throughout the 1960s and 70s. This concept allowed Zemeckis to use what was then cutting-edge visual effects that would drop Hanks into historical footage and have him "interacting" with real-life prominent...

“Jaws” in 1975 is remembered as the movie that birthed the summer global blockbuster; its many children include “Star Wars,” Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,” “Top Gun,” “Ghostbusters,” “Ghost,” “Twister,” “The Lion King,” “Independence Day,” “Speed,” and “Men in Black.” Today, that bloodline is threatened with extinction.
On the surface, that seems ridiculous — summer box office is still defined by blockbusters — but today that means sequels. It’s become exceedingly rare for studios to invest over $100 million in a summer movie with an original screenplay that’s not already part of a franchise. That’s what makes Paramount Pictures’ $110 million “If” such an outlier.
Still, being that exception also hands writer-director John Krasinski a double-edged sword. Those original blockbusters — all released between 1975-1999 — ended up with domestic gross totals, in 2024 ticket price terms, of over $400 million. Consensus on opening weekend for “If” has been around $40 million,...

Some of the best movies for kids have a powerful emotional core that pulls at your heartstrings. Whether it's reconciling grief, legacy, and coming-of-age in "The Lion King" (not the "live-action" disappointment) or the tale of an outcast talking pig in "Babe" who learns that being true to yourself is all the world needs you to be, kids movies have the power to teach everyone something about life, no matter how old they are. Writer and director John Krasinski has attempted to step into this arena with "If," hitting theaters this weekend, and it's quite the departure from his sci-fi horror hit "A Quiet Place," though it fits more in line with his sophomore directorial effort, the family dramedy "The Hollars."
"If" follows 12-year old Bea (Cailey Fleming), a girl who doesn't really consider herself a kid anymore. Having dealt with some traumatic pain due to the passing of her mother,...

This past week, we’ve seen one high-profile upload from Walt Disney Studios’ YouTube account and several smaller, better ones. While Mufasa: The Lion King was downvoted 323k times, the videos promoting Let It Be are faring better on a smaller scale.
Unsurprisingly, snippets from the Beatles documentary aren’t pulling in the kind of numbers that a Lion King trailer is, but they’re far more pleasing to the eyes and ears. After all, Disney and the Fab Four are an odd pairing.
Regardless, I’m looking forward to the fully resorted release of Let It Be. First released in 1970, the Michael Lindsay-Hogg-directed film follows John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr as they rehearse and record their final album together.
“First released in May 1970 amidst the swirl of The Beatles’ breakup, “Let It Be” now takes its rightful place in the band’s history. Once viewed through a darker lens,...

Disney recently dropped the trailer for the upcoming CGI’ Mufasa: The Lion King’ film and was met with a lot of comments and downvotes. The trailer was being ratioed hard with far more downvotes to upvotes. So what did Disney do? They labeled the video “for kids” and got the comments turned off.
Many people don’t love what they see. Many argue that the film feels like a direct replay of the original animated “Lion King” film.
Many more are tired of the “soulless remakes” that Disney keeps cranking out.
This criticism even prompted the director Barry Jenkins to respond to someone on X, saying that the original “Lion King” film was not soulless but a “potent vessel for communal empathy.”
People aren’t arguing that the original is “soulless” but that this new film seems like a repeat of the CGI film that many felt lacked the soul of the original.

The first trailer for the upcoming follow-up to Jon Favrau’s 2019 Live-Action Remake of The Lion King was recently released on YouTube. The film, titled Mufasa, serves as a sequel/prequel and tells the story of Simba’s father, Mufasa. Over the past couple of days, the trailer has gained over 6 million views but has been poorly received as the trailer currently has 222K dislikes to 104 Likes.
Much of the criticism stems from the continued pushback of Disney’s conveyor belt of remakes over the past couple of years, with their 2023 remake of The Little Mermaid becoming the most downvoted Hollywood film trailer in history. Criticism over the film allegedly changing the lore and backstory of certain characters has also been brought up.
Now, Mufasa director Barry Jenkins (Known for directing the 2016 film Moonlight) has taken to social media and responded to some trailer critics. After reposting the video on his personal account,...

Barry Jenkins is defending himself over criticism for helming the Disney prequel Mufasa: The Lion King.
After the trailer for The Lion King prequel dropped, fans of the Moonlight director took shots at him over his involvement with the film.
One social media user on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, said Jenkins was “too good and talented for this Iger’s soulless machine.”
“There is nothing soulless about The Lion King,” Jenkins replied. “For decades children have sat in theaters all over the world experiencing collective grief for the first time, engaging Shakespeare for the first time, across aisles in myriad languages. A most potent vessel for communal empathy.”

Filmmaker Barry Jenkins has made some astounding progressive leaps in his career. In 2016, after one acclaimed but tiny-budgeted micro-indie, “Medicine For Melancholy,” he won the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 89th annual ceremony for his highly successful and critically acclaimed coming-of-age drama film “Moonlight.” While he’s made one film, “If Beale Street Could Talk”) and one series since (“The Underground Railroad”), Jenkins turned a lot of heads and arguably even shocked some—especially in the indie and arthouse film communities where he started—when it was announced that he would direct Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King,” a live-action photorealistic computer-generated imagery prequel to the similarly made 2019 “Lion King” film by Jon Favreau.

When Disney announced that they were going to do Mufasa: The Lion King, audiences were particularly not excited about the idea of a prequel. While the 2019 Lion King adaptation was a big hit at the box office, fans of the original animated classic were not happy with the photorealistic approach of the animals and how it took them out of the emotionality of the story.
The photorealistic approach to 2019’s Lion King was not appreciated by fans
When Barry Jenkins came in to direct Mufasa: The Lion King, there were hopes that the project might be great as the director has won an Oscar for 2016’s Moonlight. However, with the release of the first teaser trailer, fans continued to feel the same ‘soulless’ vibe of the 2019 adaptation, despite Jenkins saying otherwise.

Barry Jenkins defended his involvement in “Mufasa: The Lion King” after he was criticized on social media this week for helming the Disney live-action prequel.
Jenkins shared the first “Mufasa” trailer on X (formerly Twitter) following its release on Monday, which prompted some fans to criticize the filmmaker, known for the Oscar-winning films “Moonlight” and “If Beale Street Could Talk,” for working on such a mainstream project.
“Barry, You’re too good and talented for this Iger’s soulless machine,” one user wrote, referring to Disney CEO Bob Iger.
“There is nothing soulless about ‘The Lion King,'” Jenkins replied. “For decades children have sat in theaters all over the world experiencing collective grief for the first time, engaging Shakespeare for the first time, across aisles in myriad languages. A most potent vessel for communal empathy.”

Barry Jenkins, the director behind movies such as Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk, may not have seemed like the obvious choice to helm Mufasa: The Lion King, but he’s not about to let people accuse him of selling out.
The first teaser trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King officially debuted yesterday, and Barry Jenkins shared it on social media. This prompted some to say that the director is “too good and talented for [Bob] Iger’s soulless machine,” but Jenkins was quick to defend himself. “There is nothing soulless about The Lion King,” Jenkins wrote on X. “For decades children have sat in theaters all over the world experiencing collective grief for the first time, engaging Shakespeare for the first time, across aisles in myriad languages. A most potent vessel for communal empathy.“

Barry Jenkins isn’t necessarily feeling the love from every social media commenter over his involvement in Mufasa: The Lion King after the Disney prequel released its first trailer this week.
After screening footage at CinemaCon earlier this month, the film’s trailer was released online Monday and features narration from Rafiki (John Kani) explaining that the movie offers the origin story for Mufasa, the lion patriarch featured in 1994’s animated The Lion King and Jon Favreau’s 2019 photorealistic remake of the same name.
Jenkins took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday to share the trailer, and his post was greeted with both favorable responses and also some negative ones, with the criticism apparently stemming from backlash to Disney’s trend of reimagining its previous animation hits. One user wrote, “Barry, You’re too good and talented for this Iger’s soulless machine,” referring to Disney CEO Bob Iger.
