It’s two weeks after Elizabeth Debicki attended the Met Gala. She’s now in Los Angeles for Emmy campaigning for her work as Princess Diana on “The Crown.”
I meet her Netflix’s FYC pop-up in Hollywood for quick chat before she takes part in a panel discussion with “The Crown” creator Peter Morgan. We grab a couple of seats in the “Ripley” room. “I’m bummed I couldn’t be in it,” Debicki says of the streamer’s adaptation of the Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 crime novel, “The Talented Mr. Ripley.” “Not that anyone asked.”
But then she suddenly remembers the Met Gala. “I sat in between Jude Law and Matt Damon,” Debicki says. “At that point, one margarita in, I thought, “Oh, my God. I’m in a Ripley sandwich.”
She did not, however, share her thought with the original “Ripley” actors.

For some reason, there has yet to be a mainstream Hollywood feature film about Donald Trump dramatizing any aspect of Trump's life, with an actor portraying him.
There have been countless documentaries about Trump, both for him and against him, and various comedians have portrayed him, including Alec Baldwin and later James Austin Johnson on Saturday Night Live.
The Comey Rule, a 2020 Showtime miniseries based on the memoirs of former FBI director James Comey, starred Brendan Gleeson as the 45th president, opposite Jeff Daniels as Comey.
At the same time, quite a few feature films, like The Oath in 2018 and Irresistible and The Hunt in 2020, have attempted to make dramatic hay out of the political controversies of the Trump years.
However, those who have not featured a Trump-based character have not referenced him directly.
However, what the movies have avoided is a direct dramatization of any part of Trump's life,...

Deadpool & Wolverine: The Merc With A Mouth Hijacks What If...? - An Immersive Story In Fun New Clip
Marvel Studios and Ilm Immersive's What If...? - An Immersive Story is now available for Apple Vision Pro, and one fan was in for a pleasant(?) surprise during a play through of the "hour-long mixed reality experience."
After entering the Tva, Miss Minutes introduces the player to their new co-worker: The Merc with A Mouth!
The screen then shows a moment from the first Deadpool and Wolverine trailer, with Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson dancing out of the elevator. This clip goes on a little longer, however, with Deadpool posing suggestively and reeling off some flirty dialogue.
While there's always a chance Reynolds recorded new dialogue, this is more likely a fourth wall-break from the movie, with the visual looped for the purposes of the game.
Check out the clip below, and let us know if you plan on giving What If..? - An Immersive Story a go in the comments.

Will TNT survive without the NBA? Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav seems confident that it will.
While acknowledging that the company is still talking to the NBA about a new rights deal (the league appears poised to give packages to Disney, NBC and Amazon, though Wbd has some “matching” rights), Zaslav said that the company has been trying to bolster the sports lineup on its channels.
“We have been on a journey here in the U.S.” Zaslav said. “We added hockey with [NHL commissioner] Gary Bettman, we added a summer of NASCAR, we just added college football. When you put that together with March Madness and baseball playoffs and the U.S. Soccer that we have, it is a very robust offering for consumers that they can watch on TNT in the U.S. all year round, and that is our job, is to continue to look at,...

On “House of the Dragon,” HBO’s fantasy epic that takes place two centuries before “Game of Thrones,” Matt Smith plays Daemon, a warrior prince who exists among fire-breathing reptiles and palace intrigue. But if his character were ever to leap deeper into the supernatural, Smith has some ideas about where he could go. “I think Daemon would make a really good vampire,” he says. “I can imagine him wandering the earth alone for all eternity.”
He certainly has the coloring: Pallid and platinum-blonde, Daemon looks as if he could have arrived in the forbidding and dark world of Westeros all the way from Transylvania. But he might be too hotblooded to play the vampire. And “House of the Dragon” — a prequel to the Emmy-gobbling, earth-shattering hit “Game of Thrones,” set during the reign of the incestuous Targaryen dynasty — is unlikely to pivot into creature horror.

For months now, awards prognosticators across the interwebs have been lamenting the state of the Emmy’s Drama categories. No, not the Emmy Awards that already happened (let’s not get into all that again) but the one TV Academy members will vote on in a few weeks. After a strike-altered release calendar and the departure of daddy’s No. 1 boy, 2024 was destined to be a strange awards season. Seven of last year’s eight nominees for Best Drama Series are no longer in contention. None of the most recent Primetime Emmy winners are eligible. A new Best Director, Writer, Actor, Actress and more will be crowned. Yet in an often-repetitive TV awards cycle, the excitement typically felt for a fresh field has been tempered by this year’s lackluster yield.
That is, excitement was tempered until a few weeks ago, when a white knight golden samurai rode in to rescue the Emmys.

Have you ever imagined being so invested in your life’s work that you choose to keep it sacred by not witnessing it firsthand? This is the intriguing case with Yellowstone star Luke Grimes, who, despite having secured his dream role as Kayce Dutton in the Kevin Costner-led sensation Yellowstone, made a personal choice to steer clear of watching the very drama that has skyrocketed his career.
With the mega-hit Western series coming to an end later this year, production is wrapping up on its final episodes. As the cast prepares for their farewell visit to the Dutton ranch, many of the actors are speaking publicly for the first time about the upcoming finale.

The show’s youngest Dutton son, Kayce, played by Luke Grimes, recently spoke with The Independent about his thoughts on the series and the behind-the-scenes drama that has beset the last season.

Do the hats and horses of the neo-Western craze spell out a strictly conservative tale, or is there something else underneath the crown? Yellowstone, featuring a number of acclaimed actors, including Luke Grimes, shines brightly among the list of well-made drama series.
Premiering in 2018, the show galloped into viewers’ hearts, depicting the ups and downs of the Dutton family against a backdrop of the breathtaking Montana range. Despite its success, some critics have hastily pinned the show to the ‘conservative’ board, not considering its nuanced portrayal of complex, contemporary issues.
Taylor Sheridan in Yellowstone | Paramount Pictures
Grimes seems to be expressing his opinions without holding back in response to these critiques. The American Sniper actor, 40, recently addressed this one-dimensional critique head-on, asking ‘liberal’ critics to look beyond the cowboy ethos and enter the engrossing depth of the series.

When the Emmy nominations are announced July 17, something will happen that hasn’t happened in 50 years: The nominees for best drama series will include only one previously nominated show, Netflix’s The Crown. I would love to be able to say that’s because there are so many great dramas out there and that TV Academy members are diligently watching them and championing different great ones this year. But the truth is, this field, historically among the strongest each season, now looks like a wasteland.
Such perennial nominees as HBO’s Succession and Westworld and AMC’s Better Call Saul have ended, along with second-tier contenders like Paramount+’s The Good Fight and Star Trek: Picard. Some ongoing, previously nominated shows were not back in time to be eligible, in some cases because of delays caused by the writers and actors strikes, including Netflix’s Stranger Things, Squid Game and Bodyguard; HBO/Max’s Euphoria,...

Jane Schoenbrun wants weirdness to know no genre boundary. Following their breakout Sundance hit film “I Saw the TV Glow” and the long publicity tour that followed, Schoenbrun is looking forward to taking a bit of a break, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have ideas in the tank, ready to go when called upon. Speaking with friend and collaborator Brigette Lundy-Paine for the A24 podcast, Schoenbrun shared some of the concepts percolating in their mind as well as some failed pitches that pushed them to explore new mediums.
“I think I’d really like to make an Apatow style comedy,” Schoenbrun said to Lundy-Paine somewhat seriously, later adding, “I want to make a stoner comedy for reals. And I feel like I’m always trying to think of a movie concept worthy of Conor O’Malley. I’ve got a couple of good ones, but here’s one.

Donald Trump’s lawyers are attempting to head off a U.S. sale of The Apprentice coming out of Cannes by slapping the filmmakers with a cease and desist letter, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Still, the filmmakers behind the Trump movie look like they will not be swayed from seeking distribution for the movie stateside. “The film is a fair and balanced portrait of the former president. We want everyone to see it and then decide,” a representative for the film’s producers said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter on Friday.
The legal move by Trump’s legal team follows director Ali Abbasi’s movie receiving a Cannes world premiere, and an eight-minute standing ovation, earlier this week.
Abbasi has already shrugged off a threat from Trump’fs presidential campaign to bring a lawsuit against the project. “Everybody talks about him suing a lot of people...

Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, we reassess drama, now with “Shōgun.”
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! It’s Friday and we went from having no clear frontrunner in the Best Drama Series category to what seems like a runway favorite. Last week, FX finally announced “Shōgun” will compete as a drama series as two additional seasons are being planned for… sometime in the future. Good for Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo and producer and star Hiroyuki Sanada. Not only will they get paid for spearheading the year’s one real breakout show not named “Baby Reindeer,” but they’re also more likely than ever to win Emmys for their work. Or maybe they were always going to win. Regardless! It didn’t take me long to...

Stranger Things’ rabid internet fandom leads to some fascinating places. People connect different parts of the series in novel ways, often leading to intense discourse about storylines and characters that some choose to forget. But one Stranger Things character from season 1 has had an uncommon staying power in the fandom. A quick look at the show’s Reddit board or trending hashtags on social media will lead to the more-than-periodic mention of Nancy Wheeler’s (Natalia Dyer) first-season best friend, Barbara “Barb” Holland (Shannon Purser).

The first trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine smashed global records back in February by scoring 365 million views in 24 hours, and the Merc With a Mouth's MCU debut has now broken another pre-release record.
Tickets went on sale earlier this week with a new teaser (check it out below), and the CEO of AMC Theaters, Adam Aron, has now announced that the superhero team-up movie sold more tickets on day one than any other R-rated movie in the company's history.
This is just one theater chain, of course, but AMC is the biggest in the world, with the largest share of the U.S. theater market ahead of Regal and Cinemark.
The prospect of seeing Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson joining forces with Hugh Jackman's Logan is clearly a huge draw, and while it obviously remains to be seen how the movie ultimately performs at the box office, this is a very good sign.

Today, Paramount+ announced that Academy Award winner Holly Hunter will star in the upcoming original series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy as the captain and chancellor of Starfleet Academy.
The series will follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the galaxy’s most legendary places. Produced by CBS Studios, it will begin production later this summer.
“It feels like we’ve spent our entire lives watching Holly Hunter be a stone-cold genius,” said co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau. “To have her extraordinary authenticity, fearlessness, sense of humor, and across-the-board brilliance leading the charge on Starfleet Academy is a gift to all of us and to the enduring legacy of Star Trek.”

The Star Trek universe, cosmic ballet that it is, goes on — in addition to a film franchise reboot from Simon Kinberg, Paramount has announced a new live-action series starring (holy crap) Holly Hunter, titled Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
Hunter, late of Mr. Mayor and Succession (though she has more credits than we can count), will play the captain and chancellor of Starfleet Academy. "It feels like we’ve spent our entire lives watching Holly Hunter be a stone-cold genius,” said co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau (Nancy Drew) of the Emmy and Oscar winner. “To have her extraordinary authenticity, fearlessness, sense of humor, and across the board brilliance leading the charge on Starfleet Academy is a gift to all of us, and to the enduring legacy of Star Trek."...

Before the debut episode of Friends aired on NBC in 1994, director Jimmy Burrows took the cast on a trip to Las Vegas.
"He handed us each a couple hundred bucks and said, ‘Now go into the casino and go gamble because this is the last time you’ll be able to walk into a casino anonymously,’" Jennifer Aniston recalled in a 2019 interview with Ellen DeGeneres.
"And we had no clue what he was talking about. And sure enough, that was the last time we were able [do that].”
Such was the power of network television in the '90s.
Six unknown young actors could transform overnight into a half-dozen A-listers, entirely on the strength of one popular primetime sitcom.
Eventually, those unknowns would become the highest-paid actors in the history of television, pocketing over $1 million per episode.
Years later, along with costar Reese Witherspoon, Aniston would break her own record, earning $2 million...

From the truly iconic Curb Your Enthusiasm to Veep, HBO has always had a taste for a good comedy, but still fails to get the right image of a channel in the eyes of the audience. In people's minds, as the home of The Sopranos, Succession, Game of Thrones and Euphoria, HBO will forever remain a dark channel with nothing to laugh about.
Granted, the comedies that HBO produces are also full of sarcasm and dark humor, but they're still just as entertaining and hilarious as CBS's family-friendly sitcoms. Hopefully, with this new project that combines some legendary names in the sitcom field, the network will attract even more people looking for a good laugh.
What Is HBO’s New Steve Carell Show?

Director and showrunner Mike Flanagan has always been a "listener" when understanding the human condition.
While his genre of choice has been horror, and primarily psychological horror at that, he has made a career out of listening to what people have to say about religion, guilt, insanity, and death.
He is as much a spiritual guru as a movie director.
Even from his early works, like Absentia and Oculus, one could see Flanagan as a visionary and an interactive designer, determined to deliver the audience an experience they crafted, a game, a nightmare they could vicariously live through archetypical characters.
He became even more crowd-pleaser with his first two ghostly mini-series, The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor.
These epic haunted tales blurred the lines between guilt and fear.

Jeremy Strong in The Apprentice Rumored to Have 'Oscars Potential' after Cannes Premiere - Main Image
Shortly after Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, rumors began circulating that Jeremy Strong's performance as Roy Cohn could have real Oscars potential.
Starring McU's Sebastian Stan as the former US President and Succession's Jeremy Strong as the mysterious US lawyer who helped Trump rise to power, The Apprentice has been one of the most highly anticipated Cannes releases this year.

Filmmaker Ali Abbasi has responded to the Trump campaign’s threat to sue over his movie The Apprentice, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday night to an eight-minute standing ovation.

The director acknowledged Trump’s likely assumptions around the movie, saying, “If I was him, I would be sitting in New Jersey, Florida or wherever he is now — or New York — and I would be thinking, ‘Oh, this crazy Iranian guy and some, like, liberal c—- in Cannes, they gathered and they did this movie and it’s fucked up.'”

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign is hitting back following the premiere of the controversial film “The Apprentice,” which chronicles the 2024 presidential candidate’s early years as a real estate developer.
“We will be filing a lawsuit to address the blatantly false assertions from these pretend filmmakers,” the Trump campaign’s chief spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement to Variety. “This garbage is pure fiction which sensationalizes lies that have been long debunked. As with the illegal Biden Trials, this is election interference by Hollywood elites, who know that President Trump will retake the White House and beat their candidate of choice because nothing they have done has worked.”
Cheung’s statement continues, “This ‘film’ is pure malicious defamation, should not see the light of day, and doesn’t even deserve a place in the straight-to-dvd section of a bargain bin at a soon-to-be-closed discount movie store, it belongs in a dumpster fire.

If you’re not caught up on your peak TV viewing, consider this your spoiler warning. Four months have passed since Jennifer Coolidge bagged her second consecutive Emmy for “The White Lotus” and thus became the eighth drama or comedy series regular honored by the TV academy for a season in which her character died. Emmy nominations of this kind have become quite common in recent years, and it’s possible that over 15% of the 2024 lead and supporting continuing series contenders will be added to the list.
The current consensus among more than 2,400 Gold Derby users is that five continuing series performers whose characters perished within the past year will receive Emmy nominations, while a few others have outside shots at recognition. This does not include characters like Anakin Skywalker who died before their shows’ latest seasons began but appear as ghosts or in flashbacks. Undead characters like most of...

The Taylor Swift as Dazzler rumors first began when the singer's likeness was used for the musical mutant's album cover in X-Men: Apocalypse. Nothing ever came of it back then, but the rumors persisted.
Speculation really kicked into overdrive when the pop megastar was spotted at the Kansas City Chiefs versus New York Jets game with Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy and stars Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) in 2023.
Levy was asked about the Dazzler rumors last year, and declined to confirm or deny Swift's involvement in the R-rated threequel.
“I’m going across the board. ‘No comment’ because that’s a double whammy. That’s Taylor-related. And it’s McU-related. I’m no dummy. You’re going to have to wait and see.”
Earlier today, shortly after tickets for the movie went on sale, Reynolds was asked about a potential part for Swift.

Even in Cannes, it’s hard to avoid Donald Trump.
“The Apprentice,” the story of the 45th and possibly 47th president’s early years as a real estate developer, earned a eight-minute standing ovation on Monday. It’s probably safe to assume that the film festival crowd isn’t a Maga-heavy one, so it helps that “The Apprentice” paints a blistering portrait, focusing on Trump’s relationship with Roy Cohn, the McCarthy-ite lawyer and fixer who took an interest in the “the Donald” before he was a household name.
Sebastian Stan (“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”) stars as Trump, Jeremy Strong (“Succession”) plays Cohn and Maria Bakalova (“Borat 2”) portrays Ivana Trump, the thrice-married president’s first spouse. Of all the various actors who've made their mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sebastian Stan might be the one who's chosen the most interesting career path upon stepping outside of the superhero limelight. Stan hasn't exactly shied away from some of the more challenging and, occasionally, downright controversial roles out there, arguably beginning this little streak of sorts with director Craig Gillespie's "I, Tonya" in 2017. He followed this up with a supporting turn in Karyn Kusama's brutal "Destroyer," the bizarre horror/comedy "Fresh" (let's just say that movie packs a bite), and, of course, his Emmy-nominated performance as Tommy Lee in "Pam & Tommy," the Pamela Anderson-centric Hulu miniseries that stirred up no headlines whatsoever.
Not content to rest on his laurels, Stan promptly went and attached himself to a role that likely gave his agent no shortage of heart palpitations: a movie about Donald Trump's rise to infamy.

We've seen a few different versions (most likely placeholders for merchandizing purposes) of this logline already, but this is by far the most unserious yet!
“Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date - Deadpool & Wolverine," it reads. "A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier... reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to - F*ck. Synopses are so f*cking stupid.”
It seems clear that the marketing for D&w is going to take the piss at every given opportunity,...

As a spin-off from such hits as The Good Wife and The Good Fight, Elsbeth was set up for a successful start. However, it's the charm of lead actress Carrie Preston and the twisted mysteries she solves that keep people coming back for more. Though repetitive due to its formula, the show is highly entertaining and has kept many fans coming back for more.
While many viewers are hoping and praying for the second season so the show can have more creative freedom and add some variety to the stories, others are happy with what they're getting. Especially since Elsbeth isn't afraid to reference a show or two to make things more interesting for the most attentive fans.
Who is Joe in Elsbeth?
Appearing in the 9th episode of the show's first season, Joe Dillion, portrayed by Arian Moayed, is a bartender who is dedicated to not only serving the best cocktails,...

“We never quite know if his intentions are good or manipulative… that is very appealing to work with because it allows you to keep people guessing,” remarks Matthias Schoenaerts about his starring role on the HBO limited series “The Regime.” The actor plays Corporal Zubak, a man with a violent past who is summoned to work at the palace for the chancellor of a fictional European nation. As he describes, the character is “somebody trying to move from dark to light,” who is “coming out of a very dark place” and “gets the opportunity to really profoundly change his life.” As a result, “He’s not one dimensional.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
Created by Will Tracy of “Succession” and other politically-savvy shows, “The Regime” features a unique tone, moving from satire and farce to drama about authoritarianism and state violence. Schoenaerts says the overall style of the show comes from the directing,...

A very impressive - and very bloody - independent fan-film has been shared online, and it reimagines Wolverine as a Viking warrior in Medieval times.
Directed by Godefroy Ryckewaert, the ultra-violent Logan The Wolf begins with a group of mercenaries approaching this far more ruthless and bloodthirsty take on the iconic mutant hero, who has been accused of brutally slaughtering anyone who encounters him - including women and children.
Logan, who refers to himself as "Fenrir's Fury," makes short work of his attackers in extremely gruesome fashion, before being approached by a man who offers to join forces so they can both rid the world of the human "animals."
We don't want to spoil exactly who this character is supposed to be, but be sure to keep watching for a short post-credits scene.
