Tomcats (2001)
what's with the bad rap?
This movie has some great scenes that are classic comedy in the SNL ilk, granted its one veteran here, Sanz, is not actually in them or playing a major role. From the last scene with the Animal Rights people, to the "balls" scene, to the dominatrix, this was some seriously sophisticated, funny comedy that deserves credit for being just that - you can't take this movie seriously though, but comparing it to the range of cheesy Hollywood action movies which put me to sleep (Armageddon just to name one example), it is a serious winner. Buying the Cow also highlingting Jerry O'Connell with a possee of equally funny goofballs is right up there in laugh value with this one - talk about a great double feature
Buying the Cow (2002)
Don't sleep on this one comedy fans
Great comedy here, good laughs. That's all that was supposed to be here in the first place, right? Kept me laughing the whole way - the Ryan Reynolds Jerry O'Connell tandem rock solid. If you liked this, and you should for what it was (Ebert could lighten up but then again he probably can't be PC and give this movie anything more than zero stars), check out Tomcats - similarly funny and original. The Ryan Reynolds naked seen all too familiar and funny like a similar fate that met O'Donnell in "Tomcats" with a little kid thinking he's a perv, providing equal laughs. Alyssa Milano is a great addition here too, overall very solid goofy movie that had some original lines and laughs and great physical comedy. what's not to like, unless you are overly stiff
The Contender (2000)
deserving
Great flick, worthy of a 10 and higher rating than IMDb users have given it. Mulitple worthy performances, esp. Jeff Bridges in one of his best among trademark eccentric roles; writing is flawless and no cheesy plot twists geared towards non-intelligent viewers, typical for American viewers. And the final tie-in with the first seen, tough to see coming and proves the writing's prowess. A ++ in every sense, one of the most underrated classics of all time. A plethora of actors here making great performances - Sam Elliot, William Petersen, Christian Slater - who hasn't done much since, nor much in the few years prior, and of course Oldman who I could not recognize for a good portion of the flick - kudos to the producers for leaving the cast till the end, I had the benefit of not reading publicity on the film which kept me guessing and enriched the experience. Again, go see this film and let's give it the ranking it deserves fellow IMDb users!
Welcome to Collinwood (2002)
deserves a 10
Although it has been remade several times, this movie is a classic if you are seeing it for the first time. Creative dialog, unique genius in the final scene, it deserves more credit than critics have given it. Highly recommended, one of the best comedies of recent years
Legends of the Fall (1994)
underrated, a must see
classic movie, one of the best. Hopkins at his best in a supporting role. Final scene of brotherly love absoutely emotional and unexpected, should have gotten more oscar nods, not just Golden Globes. Great solid role for Aiden Quinn on the downside of his career. Plot was original and hard to predict, even for a seasoned plot analyst
Bullet (1996)
one of the best of 1996
a classic, Barry White soundtrack perfectly placed. Original plot, underrated cast, keeps your interest from the get go through to the final, I agree, excellent and unanticipated conclusion. One of Rourke's few respectable performances over the last several years.
