How do you ever get past the loss of a loved one? Time and patience often help the most, yet when we see our loved ones trending toward death, we frequently find ourselves bargaining for more time. Tuesday, the feature directorial debut of Daina Oniunas-Pusic examines a woman faced with crushing loss or the choice to take on an impossible task. Like most of us, she chooses a task far beyond her understanding. The setup opens the door for one of Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘s most potent performances on film. However, Tuesday‘s flaws become more apparent with its slow pacing and questionable narrative choices.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is offering her take on the current state of comedy amidst concerns about political correctness. The Veep star, known for her work ranging from comedy to drama, isn’t fazed by the idea of being mindful of sensitivities in today’s climate. In an interview with The New York Times, Louis-Dreyfus noted, If you look back on comedy and drama both, let’s say 30 years ago, through the lens of today, you might find bits and pieces that don’t age well. And I think to have an antenna about sensitivities is not a bad thing. It doesn’t mean that all...

Expected to be the 36th installment in the films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Florence Pugh’s upcoming Thunderbolts* is giving quite a few promising updates. Moreover, these updates are good enough to have fans believe in this superhero universe once again, especially after the latest projects from the franchise, some of which have even performed worse than ever before.

This comes after Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who will be reprising her role as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in the 2025 scheduled MCU movie, revealed that the studios are reportedly making sure to use CGI and intense VFX as minimally as possible in their project. In fact, she even claimed that they are “trying to sort of go back to their roots,” which sounds like a good option after the latest failures.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is weighing in on comedians who say political correctness affects their comedy.
The Veep star is not opposed to being sensitive to certain topics and doesn’t think being politically correct threatens comedy.
“If you look back on comedy and drama both, let’s say 30 years ago, through the lens of today, you might find bits and pieces that don’t age well,” Dreyfus told The New York Times in an interview. “And I think to have an antenna about sensitivities is not a bad thing. It doesn’t mean that all comedy goes out the window as a result.”
She continued, “When I hear people starting to complain about political correctness — and I understand why people might push back on it — but to me that’s a red flag, because it sometimes means something else. I believe being aware of certain sensitivities is not a bad thing.

Cardio is good. Sony Pictures Classics’ 4k rerelease of Run Lola Run had a healthy weekend, opening to an estimated $154k on 275 screens. This is the 25th anniversary of the U.S. debut of Tom Tykwer’s German experimental thriller that sees flame-haired Lola (Franka Potente) on the move in Berlin, pounding the pavement to come up with 100,000 Deutschmarks in 20 minutes to save her boyfriend’s life. (This was before the euro arrived). See Deadline interview here. A handful of rereleases/restorations have been box office stars post-Covid and this is another indie win.

Theaters will live to fight another day. “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” (Sony) provided more than half of the gross this weekend, taking #1 with $56 million. That isn’t a record for the franchise (with previous films at lower ticket prices), but it is a critical victory for the industry at a time it desperately needs them.
Will Smith’s first wide release since his catastrophic Oscar behavior in 2022 represents a triumph for star power, franchise filmmaking, action titles, and titles that draw from minority audiences (over two thirds for the weekend were Black and Latino). Most of all, it was a vital sign that underperformance for highly touted summer films isn’t a given.
In the face of rising industry panic, an under-$40 million opening for “Ride or Die” (its 2020 predecessor opened to $62 million) could have ratched the doom and despair to toxic levels. Instead, it blew past tracking projections...

The first full weekend of June brought a modicum of hope to the summer box office, as Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reunited for the fourth installment of their popular “Bad Boys” action-comedy franchise. Read on for the weekend box office report.
“Bad Boys: Ride or Die” had been planned since 2020’s “Bad Boys for Life” became the highest-grossing blockbuster that year, partially due to Covid shutting down theaters a few weeks after its release. Opening in 3,885 theaters, including IMAX and other premium screens, “Ride or Die” received mixed reviews with 64% on Rotten Tomatoes, although it was expected to be fairly review-proof with the popularity of its two stars. It ended up making $5.88 million in Thursday previews beginning at 3pm, and $21.6 million on Friday, including those previews.
Sony is estimating it to make $56 million in North America its opening weekend, which is less than the previous movie’s $62.5 million holiday opening,...

As Julia Louis-Dreyfus recalls, the pitch for Daina O. Pusić’s feature directorial debut, ‘Tuesday’, was undeniably unique. In this poignant narrative, Louis-Dreyfus stars as Zora, a single mother grappling with her daughter Tuesday’s terminal illness. It’s a big weekend for critically acclaimed indies in limited release as well as a handful of moderate openings, including Richard Gere’s latest film Longing. The provenance of that is unusual as the film from Lionsgate/Grindstone is a Canada-set remake of a 2017 Israeli drama. The original was quite well received, but the film opening this weekend has been thoroughly skewered by critics.
After winning screenplay and audience awards in Israel, the original film premiered in Venice, taking the Bnl People’s Choice Award, then played Toronto.
Both versions are written and directed by Savi Gabizon. Characters and story are identical: a successful single American businessman (Gere) meets up with a 20-year-old old flame (Suzanne Clément) and learns that he has a son, and, a beat later, that the young man has just died in a car accident. Julia Louis-Dreyfus doesn’t recall the exact pitch she got for Daina O. Pusić’s feature directorial debut “Tuesday,” but she remembers the gist of it. “Maybe they told me, ‘This is a super unusual film,’ and that was it,” the film’s star told IndieWire during a recent interview. She’s not fudging on that designation.
In the film, Louis-Dreyfus stars as Zora, the single mother of ailing teenager Tuesday (played by the remarkable Lola Petticrew). Tuesday has been sick for some time, and when Death arrives at the pair’s London flat, the deeply empathetic Tuesday immediately realizes who he is and what he wants.
And while we can’t ever stop Death, we can delay him a bit, which is exactly what Tuesday attempts to do, mostly by befriending the beleaguered bird and offering him the sort of kindness and respect no one had in the past.

While Death has taken many physical forms throughout history, its core mission remains static: to shepherd a dying person’s soul out of this world and into the beyond. In “Tuesday,” the fantastical feature-length debut from Daina O. Pusić, Death is a talking macaw, voiced by Arinzé Kene, that appears before a living being in their final moments and takes them away with one swift motion of his wing. In between assignments, however, the painful pleas of his future charges — an aural reminder of the cruel necessity of his raison d’être — ring in his ear like tinnitus.
It doesn’t take long for Death to arrive in front of the terminally ill, wheelchair-using teenager Tuesday (Lola Petticrew), but it takes even less time for her to quiet the voices in his head. Just as he’s about to end her life, she disarms his foreboding presence with a lame...

Death takes the most unexpected of forms in “Tuesday,” a sui generis debut from Croatian director Daina O. Pusić. Her strikingly original if occasionally counterintuitive film brings the central idea of Ingmar Bergman’s “The Seventh Seal” into the modern era — trying to stall Death, if only for a matter of hours — anchored by a committed performance from a curiously miscast Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
According to Pusić’s singular imagination, Death isn’t a scythe-wielding skeleton, nor a winged figure in a pitch-black plague cloak. Rather, it appears as a ruddy-colored, computer-generated macaw with a rumbling Darth Vader-esque bass (performed by Arinzé Kene), his words low like glaciers calving and a syntax like Jabba the Hutt. Why a macaw? It seems that these exotic parrots are harbingers of death in some cultures (though the film doesn’t explain that). This one — an intimidating red bird that can shrink and swell...

If you’re quirk-averse, you might be immediately put off by a cursory description of Daina Oniunas-Pusić’s debut feature, Tuesday, in which Julia Louis-Dreyfus confronts death in the form of a shape-shifting, talking macaw. But from the distressing and immersive opening scenes, it’s clear Tuesday is an unsettling and bold vision that rewards a viewer willing to sit through some flaws (and some cringe).
In the opening sequence (reminiscent of both Enter the Void and Wings of Desire) the Macaw (voiced and performed on set by Arinze Kene) appears to a handful of poor souls on the edge of death after hearing their pleas over an oppressive din. He ends their lives with the wave of a mangey, heavy wing. The Macaw’s eyes are clouded, and he moves from a parking lot to a living room to an alley with a weary inexorability that is, frankly, frightening.

Who is the best female TV star of all time? Our new photo gallery above takes on the tough task of ranking the 30 greatest actresses and performers. Agree or disagree with our choices?
With over 70 years of television to consider, we had to provide ourselves with a few rules to help simplify things. One of those was that every woman in our gallery must have been an ongoing leading lady at some point, preferably more often than not. That’s why you will not see such classic supporting actresses as Vivian Vance, Doris Roberts or Rhea Perlman.
In order to place them in the rankings, we were looking at a combination of quality (top rated shows with the public or critics), quantity (number of shows and TV appearances), Emmy wins and nominations, plus overall legacy and iconic nature. They also needed to be on television regularly for at least the last 15 years or more.

Quite a few of your favorite television performers have plenty of Emmy Awards on their shelves… Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Allison Janney, Cloris Leachman, Tina Fey. Other TV legends like Henry Winkler and Bob Newhart just picked up their first and only statuettes in recent years. But how about the many others still waiting for their trophy? Tour through our photo gallery above featuring the Top 30 greatest TV stars who have never won an Emmy (arranged in alphabetical order). We only chose people with long-running television careers without reaching this one singular achievement. Congratulations to Jason Bateman for finally getting off of our list in 2019!
Several people in our gallery are still actively working, with some of them on this year’s Emmy ballot seeking another shot at the gold. Those names include Tim Allen (“Last Man Standing”), Kristen Bell (“The Good Place”), Steve Carell, Don Cheadle (“Black Monday”), Lauren Graham (“Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist...

“Quoth the Raven ‘Nevermore.’” With those words, over a century and a half ago, Edgar Allen Poe cemented the iconography of the bird as a metaphor for death in pitch-black ink. Though “The Raven” has hatched many cinematic imitators (including the 1935 film starring Bela Lugosi that was “suggested” by it and the 1963 film by the late Roger that more explicitly adapted it), few have carried with them the crater-like sadness that pervades the narrative poem. And while it isn’t explicitly an adaptation of “The Raven,” Daina O. Pusić’s feature debut, Tuesday, feels the weight of death’s visitation in the form of a macaw, resulting in a film of tremendous emotion, spirit, and paradoxically restraint and ambition.
Pusić’s expansive zeal for confronting the subject of dying initially takes the form of placing us in the very head of Death (voiced by Arinzé Kene), which bursts with the voices of those,...

Actors Henry Hall and Daniel Thrasher looked back at their favorite moments from working on the show Dinner with the Parents.
Dinner with the Parents is a new sitcom that follows the two twenty-something Langer brothers (Hall and Thrasher) who attend weekly dinners at their parents’ house; each gathering is sure to be chaotic and disastrous by nature.
Hall, the son of Brad Hall and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, overviewed his role in the show for uInterview founder Erik Meers, “I play David Langer, the eldest of the Langer siblings, and every Friday night I come home for… Shabbat dinner with my ‘lovely’ family, and I walk in the front door hoping that everything is going to be normal; I’ll be asked how I’m doing, I’ll ask how they’re doing, and we’ll sit down and have an orderly and nice dinner. Ever since Florence Pugh made her Hollywood debut in 2014, she has been on a meteoric rise. The actress has been cast in a wide variety of films, making her one of the most prolific actors of this generation. In her relatively short career, she has already been a household name, when she joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2021 when she made her debut as Yelena Belova in Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow.

Does the * in Thunderbolts*'s title = Black Widow 2?
According to trusted scooper Alex Perez, "Thunderbolts* is "just a Black Widow sequel the same way Civil War was a Captain America sequel... Yelena’s handling Red Room remnants and then gets sidetracked with Thunderbolts*."
Seeing as Thunderbolts* features characters like Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, and Taskmaster, we've long suspected it would be heavily tied to Black Widow. Bucky and U.S. Agent's presence on the team also creates a significant link to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
The Hollywood Reporter may have even confirmed this in a new piece which reveals, "[Florence] Pugh, 28, earned an eight-figure payday for two Marvel films, first the Scarlett Johansson-led Black Widow then Thunderbolts, where she will be at the top of the call sheet."

Michael Richards became well-known across the globe thanks to his role on Seinfeld where he played Cosmo Kramer. He also worked as a standup comedian but put a pause on that before returning to the stage later. However, things didn’t work out well for him. In 2006, he got himself into a horrible mess after he was filmed abusing his Black audience members and hurling racial slurs at them.
Michael Richards as Cosmos Kramer in Seinfeld (1989 – 1998) | Giggling Goose Productions
At a stand-up show in Los Angeles, Michael Richards was heckled by a group of Black men sitting in the audience and as a response, the comedian berated the men, which obviously did not end well for him. After the video went viral, he found himself on the receiving end of backlash which caused him to retire from stand-up comedy. Recently, the actor opened up about the incident, once again.

Eddie Murphy is feeling the heat in the first full trailer for Netflix’s forthcoming action-comedy sequel Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
The feature from director Mark Molloy is set to launch July 3 on the streaming service. Murphy leads a cast that also includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylour Paige, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot and Kevin Bacon.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F sees the star reprising his role as detective Axel Foley, who aims to save the life of his daughter (Paige) by teaming up with new partner (Gordon-Levitt) and familiar faces Billy Rosewood (Reinhold) and John Taggart (Ashton) to foil a conspiracy.
Murphy originated his character in the Martin Brest-helmed 1984 smash Beverly Hills Cop, which was written by Danilo Bach and Daniel Petrie Jr. After becoming the year’s highest-grossing film, it was followed by two sequels, the latest of which hit theaters back in 1994.

If you’re not caught up on your peak TV viewing, consider this your spoiler warning. Four months have passed since Jennifer Coolidge bagged her second consecutive Emmy for “The White Lotus” and thus became the eighth drama or comedy series regular honored by the TV academy for a season in which her character died. Emmy nominations of this kind have become quite common in recent years, and it’s possible that over 15% of the 2024 lead and supporting continuing series contenders will be added to the list.
The current consensus among more than 2,400 Gold Derby users is that five continuing series performers whose characters perished within the past year will receive Emmy nominations, while a few others have outside shots at recognition. This does not include characters like Anakin Skywalker who died before their shows’ latest seasons began but appear as ghosts or in flashbacks. Undead characters like most of...

Though Julia-Louis Dreyfus didn’t make an appearance in the final Curb Your Enthusiasm episode that called back to the Seinfeld series finale, she’s a fan of how Larry David wrapped up his follow-up series.
“I loved it,” she told The Hollywood Reporter of last month’s Curb ending. “I loved everything about it.”
Curb‘s 12th and final season finished with a cameo from Jerry Seinfeld in which he and star-creator David, both playing fictional versions of themselves, reference the famously divisive Seinfeld end. After Larry is convicted of violating Georgia’s Election Integrity Act, he’s sentenced to a year in prison. But Jerry intervenes.
He discovers that one of the trial’s jurors broke the sequestering rule, causing a mistrial to be declared and Larry to walk free.
“Larry,” Jerry says, “is a free man!”
He adds, winking to the poor reception to the Seinfeld finale:...

When Saturday Night Live began, it wasn’t even called Saturday Night Live. That honor belonged to a rival variety show hosted by Howard Cosell that launched the same year on ABC primetime. Hence why the young, hungry, and immensely talented sketch comedians assembled in 1975 were dubbed the “Not Ready for Primetime Players.”
That earliest and now quasi-mythical first class of SNL alumni remain the only ones to hold that title. Perhaps this is because the joke stopped working after many of them proved more than capable of carrying a primetime television series. In fact, most of them went on to have successful careers on TV, the Broadway stage, and for the precious and most spectacular few… in the movies.
Ever since Chevy Chase exited SNL after its first season, the series has been viewed—sometimes to creator and producer Lorne Michaels and NBC executives’ consternation—as a launchpad for movie stardom.

We may have had to wait two years for the third season of HBO Max’s “Hacks” to hit our screens but, boy, was it worth it. Ths third edition is a showcase for Jean Smart who plays Deborah Vance, a veteran stand-up experiencing a resurgence in her career. Hannah Einbinder co-stars as Ava Daniels, a comedy writer working to kick-start her career.
The relationship between those two women is at the heart of the show and season three is no different, with the chemistry between Smart and Einbinder reaching new levels. This is, still, however, the Jean Smart show. She aces every moment of comedy, perfectly embodying the Joan Rivers type of comedian that Deborah is. But what elevates the character and Smart’s performance to the next level are the touches of humanity and vulnerability sown into the role.
Critics agree, Smart is turning in career-best work.

Marvel Studios originally enlisted The Walking Dead and Beef star Steven Yeun to play The Sentry in Thunderbolts*. However, after supposed scheduling conflicts led to the actor leaving the movie, Top Gun: Maverick's Lewis Pullman was quickly enlisted to replace him.
Talking to Josh Horowitz, Pullman refused to confirm whether he's joined the movie (he has) but praised the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"You know, I think the MCU is always something that I've watched and felt like is a beautiful world that is kind of untouchable," he started. "I think there is something about joining that world which is similar to joining television in that whenever somebody joins in, you want it to be as a character you can live in for a long time and an aspect of the world you want to be in."

Scheduled for release in 2025, ‘Thunderbolts*’ is among several anticipated projects. While it may not garner as much attention as ‘The Fantastic Four’ reboot or ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ recent rumors suggest it could kick off an exciting new franchise if true.
The film promises to introduce a team akin to DC’s Suicide Squad. Additionally, speculation hints at the introduction of a new organization led by Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s portrayal of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
As per insights from The Cosmic Circus and their insider channels, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is becoming a familiar figure, having made appearances in ‘Black Widow,’ ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ and two episodes of ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.’ Given her penchant for shady dealings, it’s unsurprising to hear that Oxe Group, with its shadowy reputation, follows suit.

‘Thunderbolts*’ is just one of many upcoming projects scheduled to be released in 2025. Even though the movie doesn’t generate as much hype as ‘The Fantastic Four’ reboot or ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ so far if the rumors are true it does have the potential to be an exciting start of a new franchise.

To say that Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontaine is something of a shady figure would be quite the understatement, and while the character has yet to make her mark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a meaningful way, she's had her fingers in numerous pies in the comics for years.
Val (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) is expected to form the team in the upcoming Thunderbolts* movie, but it seems she may also be fronting another shadowy organization.
Possible spoilers follow.
According to The Cosmic Circus, Val's Oxe Group (or O.X.E.) will factor into the movie. How big a role this organization will play remains to be seen, but it could have major implication for the winder MCU going forward.
In the comics, Oxe is described as the largest holding company in the World, and has ties to the secret Kratos Club, "a group of industrial multimillionaires whose goal is to...

Cameras are still rolling on Thunderbolts* in Atlanta, and while we're hoping some revealing set photos are imminent (a first look at The Sentry would be nice), JustJared.com has just shared a couple of new hi-res shots of Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes.
The former Winter Soldier once again has long hair and is rocking a goatee which, while by no means a drastic change, has generated plenty of discussion among fans on social media.
Look closely and you'll spot a crew member carrying a glove Stan will wear to portray Bucky's cybernetic arm! Having a suit on means he doesn't have to don a full sleeve, something we're sure the actor is grateful for. We also see Geraldine Viswanathan's mystery character.
As for what Bucky is up to, we've done some digging, and it sounds like he's attending a court hearing. Interestingly, Julia Louis-Dreyfus's CIA Director...

The upcoming Thunderbolts* film is poised to be one of the most exciting entries in the MCU’s upcoming slate. The studio has made several changes within the studio creatively and approach-wise to improve its output after a string of underperforming projects. With the team behind Netflix’s Beef coming in, expectations are quite high for the film.

The film will unite a rag-tag team of antiheroes, including Yelena Belova, Taskmaster, Red Guardian, US Agent, Ghost, and Bucky Barnes.
