Aired on Prime Video in March, Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House is still a prominent feature of the platform’s global top. The top-tier action about an ex-UFC fighter also starred a real-life sports legend, the professional boxer Conor McGregor, in his movie debut.
Netflix has just added another sports movie to its catalog, and it can easily beat Road House by its wholesomeness. More than that, it tells the true story of rises and falls of one of the world’s legendary boxers, and it definitely adds to it being a must-watch.
It starts by showing a boxer during his championship debut against the back-then heavyweight champion, whom he beats and becomes a worldwide sports star. The subsequent events of his complicated life lead him to rethink the realities he lives in.
Sports lovers can already guess we’re talking about Muhammad Ali, also known as Cassius Clay Jr.

Now, Deadline is reporting that Amazon has ordered a newer incarnation of American Gladiators for Prime Video. Jerry Seinfeld opened up about the negative reception of his latest Netflix movie, Unfrosted. Seinfeld shared that he didn’t care about the critical opinion and commented that he wanted to read the negative reviews since he found them to be funny. The film is loosely based on the invention of Pop-Tarts toaster pastries, and Seinfeld played Bob Cabana, a character based on William Post who created them.

Comedian and director Jerry Seinfeld, 70, shared his thoughts on evolved perceptions of masculinity.
Seinfeld, who just released his directorial debut film Unfrosted, which is set in the 1960s, expressed his fascination with the “agreed-upon hierarchy” that he believes has been “vaporized” in the present day. He suggested that this loss of a clear social structure has contributed to the erratic and chaotic behavior he observes in modern society, such as aggressive driving.
“I think that is why people lean on the horn and drive in the crazy way that they drive: because we have no sense of hierarchy,” Seinfeld said in a new interview on the Honestly with Bari Weiss podcast. “And as humans, we don’t really feel comfortable like that.”
“If you want to talk about nostalgia, that is part of what makes that moment attractive looking back,” Seinfeld remarked about the period of his childhood. He fondly described figures from that era,...

Jerry Seinfeld’s latest comments on ‘dominant masculinity’ and ‘sense of hierarchy’ have irked some fans on social media. The comedian’s TV show, Seinfeld, included a plethora of jokes that mocked these topics back in the 1980s and ’90s. However, he shared in a recent podcast interview that he missed real masculinity due to his career as a comedian, which he said was a childish pursuit.

Seinfeld made a massive amount of money from his career as a comedian despite not becoming his idolized version of a masculine man. According to reports, he recently entered the billionaire club with his earnings on Seinfeld and other TV projects.

Jerry Seinfeld got nostalgic in a recent interview and says he misses “dominant masculinity.”
In a sit down with Bari Weiss for The Free Press’s podcast Honestly, Seinfeld reminisced about growing up and wanting to become “a real man,” joking that he never “made it.”
“I really thought when I was in that era, again, it was [John F. Kennedy], it was Muhammad Ali, it was Sean Connery, Howard Cosell, you can go all the way down there. That’s a real man,” he said.
Seinfeld said he grew up admiring these figures, but as a comedian, he didn’t become that because it is a “childish pursuit.”
He continued, “But I miss a dominant masculinity. Yeah, I get the toxic thing. Thank you, thank you. But still, I like a real man.”
The topic arose after Weiss discussed watching Seinfeld’s Netflix movie Unfrosted, set in the 60s.

Jerry Seinfeld appeared on the “Honestly With Bari Weiss” podcast and said he’s always found his bad reviews to be funny. The comedian recently released his first feature directorial effort, the Pop-Tart movie “Unfrosted,” on Netflix to largely negative critical reviews. “Unfrosted” boasts a weak 43% on Rotten Tomatoes from 120 reviews. But Seinfeld appears to be unbothered by the critical reception, as he never intended to make something that would be liked by everyone anyway.
“The only thing I want to read are the absolute worst reviews the movie received because there is nothing funnier to me than people complaining that [they] didn’t laugh,” Seinfeld said. “They want to laugh. I related to it. I get it. I think it’s funny that you hated it because you wanted to laugh and you didn’t laugh.”
“It’s funny! It doesn’t matter what you think of me,” Seinfeld continued.

It is a truth foretold that Robin Williamsʼs brilliance burned too bright for it to ever be replicated by any artist who came after him. This goes even for the most gifted of comedians that the industry ever produced, so much so that there have been very few artists who could even scratch the surface of unbridled creativity that Williams innately possessed.
Will Smith, for his part, is no less accomplished than the dozen other musically and comedically gifted actors of Hollywood. Within his filmography, the A-lister has delivered an oeuvre of work that rivals even the most sincere artists in this industry. Ranging from sci-fi to drama to Disney musicals to biographies to buddy comedies, there isnʼt one genre that Will Smith is incapable of mastering.

There is a new undisputed and undefeated heavyweight champion of the world.
Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk joined Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Joe Frazier, Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali and Floyd Patterson as the only undisputed champions by winning a split decision over Tyson Fury. The fight took place at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The previously undefeated Fury was convinced he won the fight. But the scorecards favored Usyk.
“I believe I won that fight,” Fury said to Dazn.“I believe he won a few of the rounds, but I won the majority of them. … We all put on a good fight, best we could do. And, you know, his country is at war, so people are siding with someone with a country at war. But make no mistake, I won that fight in my opinion, and I’ll be back.”
Fury and Usyk reportedly have a rematch clause in their contract.

Louis Vuitton is reviving its Core Values campaign with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
The campaign, shot by iconic photographer Annie Leibovitz, features the tennis champions, a rare off-the-court pairing, ascending to the summit of Italy’s Dolomites mountain range. The imagery fits the campaign’s tagline: “There are Journeys that turn into Legends.”
The newly released campaign features 42-year-old Federer and 37-year-old Nadal 3,000 meters high, standing tall on the mountain peak. In the imagery, Federer sports a Monogram Christopher backpack while Nadal is pictured with the Monogram Eclipse version.
For the campaign, Nadal and Federer are not competitors but instead companions for one another on the journey up the mountain — a visual metaphor for their careers which have been “marked by deep mutual respect and friendship,” according to the luxury brand.

A striking home once owned by sports icon and three-time heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali has hit the auction block.
The seven-bedroom Los Angeles mansion was built in the Italian Renaissance style in 1916. Ali hosted numerous celebrities at his home, including Clint Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone, and Michael Jackson, according to Robb Report.
The house is one of 70 located within Fremont Place, an exclusive gated community in the city’s desirable Hancock Park neighborhood. John C. Austin, the architect behind LA’s Griffith Observatory and LA City Hall, designed the home.

Freewheeling documentary presents a compelling if somewhat rambling portrait of the hardscrabble roots of many contenders
Admittedly, their freewheeling boxing documentary is a little rambling and understructured, but nevertheless director Steve Read and producer-narrator Robert Douglas (both Brits) end up making a compelling and illuminating mosaic about the sport by focusing on an eclectic range of figures, some interviewed on screen. The opening sequence, narrated by Douglas, starts with his personal recollections about how much watching boxing meant to him, especially as a biracial kid from the roughest parts of Liverpool. He ended up living in one of Philadelphia’s seamiest neighbourhoods where he felt right at home, and this leads into a portrait of young boxers at an inner-city Philly gym where training and competing have opened up whole new worlds for young men who otherwise might have been sucked into the violence of the streets.

One of America's strangest celebrity sagas came to an abrupt, anticlimactic close when O.J. Simpson died at the age of 76 on April 10, 2024. The Heisman Trophy-winning running back from the University of Southern California became a professional football phenomenon during his 11-season tenure with the Buffalo Bills. He was blindingly handsome and charismatic, as comfortable in front of a camera as he was breaking tackles on the gridiron. Unlike Jim Brown, Simpson chose to keep playing football when he embarked on his acting career; and though Simpson was typically cast in supporting roles, they were often high-profile productions (namely the Best Picture-nominated "The Towering Inferno" and the Emmy-winning miniseries "Roots").
When Simpson retired, he continued to act while staying close to football as an on-field reporter for NBC. You never knew where The Juice was going to turn up, but you were never unhappy to see him. This was especially true...

As filmmakers start to incorporate more generative artificial intelligence into documentary production, leading to mounting concern over the use of “fake archival” materials, a group of producers is pushing ahead in their efforts to establish guardrails around the use of the technology in fact-based storytelling.
On Tuesday, leaders of the Archival Producers Alliance — a group of roughly 300 researchers and producers working in documentary internationally, including Oscar- and Emmy-winning filmmakers — presented their first draft of a set of proposed best practices for the use of generative AI in their field. Kendrick Lamar has heard Drake and J. Cole’s most recent subliminal disses, and he’s done playing games. In his guest verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s new song “Like That,” the rapper comes after his friends turned foes.
After opening his verse by calling out “n****s talkin’ out of they necks,” Kendrick name-drops Drake and Cole’s 2023 hit “First Person Shooter” off the former’s album, For All the Dogs: “Fuck sneak dissin’, ‘First Person Shooter,’ I hope they came with three switches.”
This line is a direct response to Cole boasting on “First Person Shooter” about being the “hardest Mc” out of the so-called Big Three rappers of their generation. “Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me?” he raps. “We the Big Three like we started a league, but right now, I feel like Muhammad Ali.”

Nelson Mandela, the iconic anti-apartheid leader who went from 27 years as a political prisoner to eventually becoming the first president of a free South Africa, will be the subject of the 30-hour scripted TV series “Mandela.” The project is currently the works at writer/producer Josh Wakely’s Grace: A Storytelling Company shingle.
Wakely has secured the TV series life rights to the late Mandela via House of Mandela Entertainment, the media arm of the Mandela estate. Wakely will executive produce and write “Mandela,” along with South African writer/director Kagiso Lediga (“Queen Sono”) and producer Kweku Mandela (who is also Nelson Mandela’s grandson).
The project, which Wakely compares to a multi-season saga in the vein of Netflix’s “The Crown,” will center on Mandela’s life as he was sent to prison while aiming to end apartheid, the system of institutional racism and segregation that was administered in South Africa for generations.

When film and TV talents collide on the Santa Monica beach at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, anything can happen. Just ask “American Fiction” nominee Jeffrey Wright.
“The year I was nominated for ‘Basquiat,’ our producer Jon Kilik said, ‘Hey, do you want to meet Muhammad Ali?’” recalls Wright, up for the debut performance trophy at the 1997 ceremony, while the boxing champ was there with his doc “When We Were Kings.” “I pretty much skipped over a series of tables to say hello to him. Ali was an absolute personal hero and meeting him blew my mind. That was the beginning of a really gratifying relationship, because I ended up [playing photographer Howard Bingham] in the movie ‘Ali.’”
Wright, who had already won a Tony Award at that point, went on to more acclaim and glory in film and TV roles, this year receiving his first Oscar nomination for his performance in “American Fiction.

When a sitcom reaches a certain level of longevity, it can be easy for writers to take their audience for granted. Storylines get lightly reworked, if not recycled wholesale. Cheap ratings are scored by having a significant character get married (call it the "Rhoda boost"). And there's no better way to guarantee the maximum amount of eyeballs than to have a major celebrity play themselves within the world of our favorite characters.
This typically works. Who can forget the time Bobby Brady faked a serious illness to earn a bedside visit from Joe Namath on "The Brady Bunch," or the time that pint-sized prankster Arnold Jackson pulled the same trick to get Muhammad Ali up to the Drummond's penthouse on "Diff'rent Strokes?" These are memorable episodes to be sure, but there's nothing more to them than the cameo.
It's far more satisfying when you can drop the celeb into...

Late musician John Lennon disliked late boxer Muhammad Ali because he made The Beatles “look really stupid”, claims photographer Harry Benson. The band met the boxer on their first trip to the US in February 1964, when they were both on the brink of megastardom, but the meeting reportedly didn’t go well as the legendary fighter — who was still known by his birth name Cassius Clay at the time — insulted the group, leaving them unimpressed.
Photographer Harry Benson had taken the ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand’ hitmakers to meet Ali — who died in 2016 aged 74 — when he was preparing for his Sonny Liston fight and they were waiting to appear on ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
He recalled to the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column: “Ali dwarfed them. Just the repartee of Ali: ‘You think you’re good-looking? You’re not that good-looking – you’re tiny,...

Ken Burns has already cracked the code for being synonymous with highbrow documentary filmmaking, but now the award-winning director is taking on an unprecedented feat: capturing the life and legacy of Renaissance painter Leonardo da Vinci.
Burns’ upcoming PBS film “Leonardo da Vinci” marks the director’s first non-American subject. The two-part, four-hour documentary will debut November 18 and 19, as Burns codirects with daughter Sarah Burns and Dave McMahon.
Per the official synopsis, “Leonardo da Vinci” follows the 15th century polymath’s life and evolution as a draughtsman and painter, scientist and engineer, who used notebooks to explore an astonishing array of subjects including painting, philosophy, engineering, warfare, anatomy, and geography, among many others. Set against the rich and dynamic backdrop of Renaissance Italy, at a time of skepticism and freethinking, regional war and religious upheaval, “Leonardo da Vinci” brings the artist’s towering achievements to life through his prolific personal notebooks,...
