Most of Wild Wild West plays exactly in the way you would expect, as a uglier, less charismatic version of Men in Black. Sure, Will Smith still has his ineffable cool and Kevin Kline’s always lovable, even when playing a motor-mouthed and egotistical inventor. But the two just don’t click like Smith did with Tommy Lee Jones, and Barry Sonnenfeld’s direction feels forced and mechanical instead of electric. So when Smith’s secret agent Jim West and Kline’s U.S. Marshal Artemus Gordon find the secret lab of mad scientist Arliss Loveless (Kenneth Branagh), the audience feels just as unimpressed as the characters. As the exhausted duo mocks Loveless’s offerings, they ask “What has he got?” listing off his failures. The same question could be posed to Wild Wild West, with its garish set-pieces and flat humor.

Mark Damon, who starred in the Vincent Price horror classic House of Usher and spaghetti Westerns before revolutionizing the foreign sales and distribution film business and producing features including 9 1/2 Weeks, Monster and Lone Survivor, has died. He was 91.
Damon died Sunday of natural causes in Los Angeles, his daughter, Alexis Damon Ribaut, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Damon spent the first 20 years of his career as an actor, including about a dozen as a leading man in Italian action movies, before he transitioned to the business side.
He had early success as an executive producer with two movies written and directed by Wolfgang Petersen: the German-language World War II drama Das Boot (1981), which received six Oscar nominations, and The NeverEnding Story (1984), a big-budget fantasy film that featured a Damon-commissioned score by Giorgio Moroder for non-German audiences.

When Barbra Streisand and Jon Peters were interested in remaking A Star is Born in 1974, their first choice for John Howard Norman was Elvis Presley. Reportedly, the King of Rock and Roll was very interested in the role, but someone else held the key to Presley’s participation in the project. Who’s to blame for?
Elvis Presley was ‘hooked’ on the idea of remaking ‘A Star Is Born’
Barbra Streisand and Jon Peters met with Elvis Presley to discuss the project in early 1974. At the time, Presley was performing at Las Vegas’ Caesars Palace.
Presley hadn’t made a film since 1969’s Change of Habit. However, he was reportedly looking to return to the movie industry and wanted to be taken seriously as an actor. Therefore, the meaty role of a fading rock star greatly appealed to him.

The year 1989 saw Tim Burton joining the world of DC Comics with his movie Batman. Michael Keaton starred as the brooding vigilante opposite Jack Nicholson’s Joker. The movie also spawned a sequel titled Batman Returns in the year 1992.
Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman
The idea for the movie first came from the mind of Michael E. Ulsan, who purchased the film rights of Batman from DC Comics in 1979 along with his producing partner, Benjamin Melniker. He wanted to bring back the dark and serious Batman instead of the campy 1960 version from the Adam West-led television series. But it took him a long time to find a home for the Dark Knight before Tim Burton and Michael Keaton could give the audience a Batman like that of the 1989 movie.

Recently, we had the chance to sit down with Michael Keaton and chat about his new movie, Knox Goes Away, which he also directs. Keaton is still out there promoting the film and recently ran down some of his best roles with GQ, including Batman. In the interview, which is really fascinating, Keaton remembers the controversy that surrounded his casting initially by director Tim Burton, which he calls a “ballsy move.”
For those who may not have been around in 1988, when Keaton’s casting was first announced, may fans hated him getting the role as his career up to that point had largely been focused on comedy roles. Indeed, he had many comedy hits in the 80s, including Night Shift, Johnny Dangerously, Gung Ho, The Dream Team, and Beetlejuice. Actor Michael Keaton’s collaboration with director Tim Burton resulted in two live-action Batman movies that are loved and appreciated even today. As a result, it might surprise some fans that the duo butted heads over one casting decision during the production of Batman, which introduced several popular comic book characters.

One of the biggest struggles during the making of the sequel was the casting of Selina Kyle / Catwoman. While Burton cast Michelle Pfeiffer for the role, lead star Keaton earlier did not want the actress anywhere near the sets of the first installment. Nonetheless, Pfeiffer’s performance remains memorable, making viewers curious why Keaton was against her casting.

Maestro star Bradley Cooper was the victim of brutal trolls this awards season, most of which came out of an alleged rivalry with Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy. While Cooper never made any ill comments towards his awards competitors, the actor’s several actions clearly suggest that he yearns for Oscar recognition. He was famously snubbed for the Best Actor Award at the 94th Academy Award for the film Nightmare Alley, which fans are celebrating on X now.

Many fans believed that Cooper was also snubbed for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar the same year for his brief appearance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza. The Guardians of the Galaxy actor is currently among the Oscar nominees for his performance as Leonard Bernstein in Maestro.

Ridley Scott’s Very Expensive Roman Holiday
With accidents on the set, complaints about animal abuse and now reports that the production went wildly over budget, sources tell Rambling Reporter that Ridley Scott’s long-anticipated Gladiator sequel is leaving Paramount execs feeling a bit like Joaquin Phoenix’s Emperor Commodus — “terribly vexed.” Initially budgeted at $165 million, sources say that figure has ballooned to something closer to $310 million. (Paramount insiders insist the net cost of the 49-day shoot was under $250 million.) “It’s a runaway,” says one source. “It’s not being managed.” The strikes account for some of that money; the shutdowns starting in July reportedly cost $600,000 a week, or a total of about $10 million, until Scott resumed shooting in December (though there were reports he kept cameras rolling during the work stoppages, shooting extras at crowd scenes in Malta, where he built a Coliseum set). But even before the walkouts,...

"Tron" and "Caddyshack" star Cindy Morgan has died, TMZ is reporting. The actress who appeared in several hit films and TV shows, most notably in the 1980s, was 69 years old. The outlet confirmed the news with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, but the details surrounding Morgan's passing are not currently available.
Morgan began her career as a weather reporter, but her first on-screen acting role came in 1979, when she played Elaine in the erotic comedy "Up Yours." Known for her striking blonde hair and blue-eyes, Morgan was cast in bombshell roles, including as the goofily named character Lacy Underall in the 1980 Bill Murray-led comedy "Caddyshack." The actress soon found herself in the zeitgeist, appearing in the cyberspace action-adventure film "Tron" as Dr. Lora Baines, a scientific assistant who was dating Encom programmer Alan (Bruce Boxleitner). Brad Silberling's 1998 romance "City of Angels," a remake of Wim Wenders' indispensable 1987 film "Wings of Desire," stars Nicolas Cage as an immortal angel named Seth who gently breezes around Los Angeles, unseen by the people who live there. He appears to people only when they die, accompanying them to the afterworld. Observing humans as if they are an ineffable alien species, Seth becomes particularly enamored of an ambitious and compassionate young doctor named Maggie Rice. Seth finds that he might be experiencing love for the first time, and becomes visible to Dr. Rice, courting her and asking her deep questions about what it means to be human. Seth eventually chooses to transform into a human, sacrificing his immortality in order to be with his beloved.
What both Wenders and Silberling communicate with aplomb is how inhuman angels are. They live among humans but only interact when the humans die.

Anatomy of a Fall (Justin Triet)
The ensuing days after a romantic breakup, even if it isn’t a cataclysmic one, are an uncanny time. Perhaps once the spell of verbal conflict and sparring’s ceased, suddenly your sole companion for the most intimate thoughts is yourself once again, but it’s an opportune moment for contemplation: how did it really go wrong? Or, can I be honest with myself and acknowledge my own partial responsibility for its demise? For Sandra (Sandra Hüller) and Samuel (Samuel Theis), the key onscreen and offscreen players in Anatomy of a Fall, are enduring this quagmire, although their inevitable breakup was enforced––the latter has just tragically died. – David K. Nicolas Cage is invading everyone’s dreams in his new A24 film Dream Scenario. After a dark era of doing straight-to-video film after straight-to-video film, Cage is looking like he’s still finding some dramatic inspiration with his new movie. Our own Chris Bumbray glowed in his review, “Dream Scenario is a clever social satire that should do wonders for Cage’s indie cred. Along with Pig, it’s evidence that when Cage gets the proper role, nobody’s better, and while this might be more overtly hilarious than some were expecting, given how it was initially teased, it’s entertaining and oh-so timely. “ According to Deadline, the eccentric actor recently made an appearance at the Red Sea Film Festival that is taking place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he regaled an excited crowd about some details of his film career, including the infamous Superman Lives.

Sharon Stone is making a serious allegation.
The 65-year-old actress says she was sexually harassed by a former head of Sony Pictures, who allegedly aggressively propositioned her during an office meeting in the late ’80s.
During an interview on the SiriusXM show “Let’s Talk Off Camera” with Kelly Ripa, she spoke out the situation, but did not name the alleged abuser.

Jonathan Dolgen, the tough-minded dealmaker and skillful numbers-cruncher who spent a decade at Viacom working for Sumner Redstone and alongside Paramount Pictures head Sherry Lansing, has died. He was 78.
Dolgen died Monday evening of natural causes at UCLA Medical Center surrounded by his family, a publicist announced. He had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in 2012.
A native of Queens and a former Wall Street lawyer, Dolgen also held top positions at Columbia Pictures, Fox and Sony Pictures before becoming the first top executive recruited by Redstone for the newly merged entertainment conglomerate forged by Viacom’s $8.2 billion purchase of Paramount Communications.
“I had known Dolgen off and on over the years when I was a motion picture exhibitor, even before I gained control of Viacom,” Redstone recalled in his 2001 book, Passion to Win. “He was with Columbia Pictures, and I remember sitting with him in one particular meeting that became rather heated and thinking,...

Tim Burton wasn’t too excited to see Michael Keaton and Nicolas Cage in The Flash. In a new interview, the filmmaker said he’s in a “quiet revolt” against big film studios like Warner Bros. — who infamously scrapped his Cage-starring Superman Lives three weeks before filming was set to begin in 1998.
The story goes that, following the success of 1989’s Batman — which starred Keaton as Bruce Wayne — Warner Bros. brought Burton back a few years later to continue the Man of Steel’s on-screen story with Superman Lives. But Warner Bros. and producer Jon Peters never quite got on the same page with Burton creatively, and after two years in pre-production, the studio abandoned the project.
“No, I don’t have regrets,” Burton told the British Film Institute of the time he spent on the film. “I will say this: when you work that long on a project and it doesn’t happen,...

Bradley Cooper is undoubtedly feeling the Bern. There’s something very endearing about Cooper’s star persona, not least the fact that, of all modern Hollywood leading men, the mere idea of a “star persona” is something he actually earns. He is charismatic, good-looking, talented (also showcasing talent some felt he didn’t have), and has pretty good taste. Though Paul Thomas Anderson hit on something deploying him for an edgier role as one-man hurricane movie producer and cad Jon Peters.

Calling the production of 1989's "Batman" an uphill struggle is an understatement. There's a reason director Tim Burton claims bringing his vision of the Dark Knight to fruition was "torture." Lawyer-turned-producer Michael E. Uslan, who'd acquired the rights to a Batman movie in the '70s, envisioned a darker cinematic take on the character, and Burton was brought on to make it happen. But keeping things on track was a slog from the outset.
Burton had to work hard to convince Uslan that Michael Keaton should play Batman, and that was just the beginning of his struggles. The director clashed with producer Jon Peters, who reportedly caused Burton to run off set in tears after he told him to add more "pathos and romance" to his movie. Carl Grissom actor Jack Palance also gave Burton a dressing down after a miscommunication on-set. And all of this was happening within the...

“The Silence of the Lambs” executive producer Gary Goetzman has been a major player in Hollywood for the last four decades (especially after he followed that Best Picture-winner by co-founding Playtone with Tom Hanks in 1998), but many in and around the film industry were unfamiliar with his story until Paul Thomas Anderson made a movie about it. “That was some version of my story, at least,” Goetzman chuckled when I asked him about “Licorice Pizza” during a recent Zoom interview from his office in Los Angeles, where he’s putting the finishing touches on “Masters of the Air,” a high-altitude Apple miniseries in the tradition of “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific.” “So many events in ‘Licorice Pizza,’ are true, but everything around it is kind of not.”

Actor Michael Keaton has a long list of credits, known for films such as Mr. Mom, Multiplicity, and Beetlejuice. In 1989, he landed the coveted role of Bruce Wayne in Batman.

However, there he refused to work with one well-known actor due to a previous romantic relationship. Despite Keaton’s resistance, the popular A-lister made it into the Batman franchise.

Nicolas Cage finally sounded off to USA Today on his brief return as Superman in Warner Bros.’ “The Flash.” The Oscar winner made a surprise cameo appearance as the Man of Steel he never got to play back in the late 1990s, although he did not say any lines.
“Well, I was glad I didn’t blink,” Cage said about his brief return. “For me, it was the feeling of being actualized. Even that look for that particular character, finally seeing it on screen, was satisfying. But as I said, it’s quick.”
“If you really wanted to know what I was going do with that character, look at my performance in ‘City of Angels,’” he added, giving a tease about what fans could’ve expected from his iteration of Superman. “I was supposed [to play] Clark Kent after that and I was already developing this alien otherness playing this angel. [Warning: This story contains spoilers for The Flash.]
Filmmaker Kevin Smith had a full-circle moment when watching The Flash and seeing Nicolas Cage’s cameo as Superman.
During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the director/producer/writer said he “just about passed out” when he first learned the actor was going to be making an appearance in the Andy Muschietti-directed film as the iconic superhero.
“I finally got to see Nic Cage be Superman,” Smith said. “It has been an absolute delight for me.”
It hits close for Smith because he initially penned several draft screenplays for the infamous 1998 film Superman Lives, which was never made. Smith has been open about difficulties they faced with the film and production, including producer Jon Peters making several demands, such as Superman having to fight a giant spider. They two also disagreed on who should play the title role.
“Jon Peters was like, ‘I want Sean Penn to play Superman.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains major spoilers for Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ “The Flash,” now playing in theaters.
“I finally got to see Nic Cage be Superman. It has been an absolute delight for me,” Kevin Smith recently told Rolling Stone about watching “The Flash.” The film and that Cage-as-Superman cameo near the end is a full circle moment for Smith, who was the screenwriter of the studio’s infamous “Superman Lives.”
After launching the Batman movie franchise for Warner Bros. to great success, director Tim Burton turned his attention toward Superman in 1998 with the development of “Superman Lives.” Smith penned the script, which focused on Superman’s fight against Doomsday. Despite spending over $30 million on the film’s casting and pre-production, Warner Bros. pulled the plug on “Superman Lives” due to creative differences.

If you have not seen Andy Muschietti’s superhero extravaganza The Flash, starring Ezra Miller as the time-stopping/time-hopping superhero, you might want to stop reading now because we’re about to spoil one of its major cameos.

“I have spent the better part of 30 years of my career referencing the movies,” says Kevin Smith. “And now I’ve lived long enough where the movies are starting to reference me back.” He’s talking about The Flash, which, among its numerous cameos, includes a truly wild one, directly inspired by an infamous story Smith has been telling for years. (You can stop reading here if you’re spoiler-averse, although even director Andy Muschietti is already publicly talking about it.)

There seems to be a governing principle that human history moves in cycles. If you need proof, just look around at the happenings of the past few years and see how comparable they are to highly similar events that occurred during the 20th century.
Or, if you want a smaller, more immediate example, check this out: "Air," a movie about the creation of Nike's popular "Air Jordan" line of footwear, is currently streaming on Amazon Prime, and it both stars and is directed by Ben Affleck. Affleck portrays Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming DC Universe movie, "The Flash." Also starring in that movie is Michael Keaton, who portrays, well, another universe's Bruce Wayne/The Batman. Keaton was famously the first actor to play the role in multiple feature films: 1989's "Batman" and 1992's "Batman Returns."
What connects all of these disparate facts? Why, Bat-Boots, of course. In 1989, Nike...

The character of Pee-wee Herman — a chuckling, hilarious man-child invented by comedian Paul Reubens — made his debut in 1977 in the film "Cheech and Chong's Next Movie," and cemented his legacy in 1981's "Nice Dreams." In the latter film, clearly strung out on something, the Pee-wee-like character asked if Cheech was the "guy from the hamburger train."
The same year, still playing the Pee-wee shtick, Reubens debuted "The Pee-wee Herman Show" at the Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles, cementing the character in the local pop consciousness. The stage shows were quite expressly adult, even if Pee-wee himself was quirky and childish. Characters that debuted on stage would eventually appear on the popular TV show "Pee-wee's Playhouse" in 1986, including Jambi the Genie, Miss Yvonne, and Cowboy Curtis.
Prior to the TV series, however, Reubens had ambitions to bring Pee-wee Herman to cinemas. Because the actor had a book of working directors, he...

Out of all the legendary unmade movies across film history, few have surpassed the famed status of Tim Burton's fabled "Superman Lives," which was supposed to star Nicolas Cage. The behind-the-scenes stories about the project's failed development have taken on a mythical quality of their own as one of the strangest "What if?" scenarios in Hollywood. These tales may have stirred up a chaotic idea of what pre-production was like, but Cage himself proposed a relatively simple reason as to why "Superman Lives" never saw the light of day. It may have been simply that Warner Bros. didn't want to take another chance with Burton.
"Superman Lives" was supposed to be a new start for the Man of Steel after the colossal failure of "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace." The project started with indie filmmaker and mega comic book fan Kevin Smith, who pitched his idea to infamous...

Chicago – How about a Pamela-thon for Valentine’s Day? The 1990s sex symbol Pamela Anderson is going through a current revival with two TV works about her life and a major book release. Photographer Joe Arce of HollywoodChicago.com went through his archives and found four Exclusive Portraits of Pa from 2010.
The onrush of new material about Anderson began with the unauthorized Hulu miniseries, released a year ago, entitled “Pam & Tommy.” The series chronicled the turbulent three year marriage of Anderson and Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, including the story of the illegal release of their infamous sex tape, and featured Lily James and Sebastian Stan in the title roles. In a counter move, 12 days ago Anderson released her new memoir “Love, Pamela: A Memoir of Prose, Poetry and Truth,” which combines her life story version with her poetry. Barbra Streisand’s memoir, which was first announced in 2015, is finally coming out from Viking, a Penguin Random House imprint, on Nov. 7, the Associated Press reported on Tuesday.
“My Name Is Barbra,” which is also is the title of a 1965 Streisand album and television special, is 1,040 pages and covers her personal and professional life.
“The book is, like Barbra herself, frank, funny, opinionated, and charming,” according to the publisher’s statement.
“She recounts her early struggles to become an actress, eventually turning to singing to earn a living; the recording of some of her acclaimed albums; the years of effort involved in making ‘Yentl’; her direction of ‘The Prince of Tides’; her friendships with figures ranging from Marlon Brando to [former Secretary of State] Madeleine Albright; her political advocacy; and the fulfillment she’s found in her marriage to James Brolin.”

Pamela Anderson has opened up about her past experiences in a new memoir.
The former Baywatch star has released the new book, which makes several claims about many people from her past, including Tim Allen, and is also the centre of a new Netflix documentary.
While promoting the memoir, Anderson, who has been married six times, revealed details of her former relationships, and explained her decision to marry so many times.
The actor suggested that most of her exes “treated her badly”, telling The Times: “I also would not allow anyone to abuse me and didn’t want my kids to think it was Ok. And so that was always my red line.”
However, she named Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner as the one man she thinks treated her with “complete and utter respect”.
Following Hefner’s death in 2017, Anderson paid tribute, calling him her “friend and mentor”.

Hollywood star Pamela Anderson’s former husband Jon Peters has included her name in his will, putting aside 10 million for her. Married to former ‘Baywatch’ actress, for a total of 12 days in early 2020, the 77-year-old producer explained that he’s leaving her the money “whether she needs it or not” because he will “always love” her, reports aceshowbiz.com.
“I will always love Pamela, always in my heart. As a matter of fact, I left her 10 million in my will. And she doesn’t even know that. Nobody knows that. I’m just saying it for the first time with you. I probably shouldn’t be saying it. So that’s for her, whether she needs it or not,” he told Variety.
At the time of their separation, Pamela, who is mother to model Dylan, 25, and Brandon, 24, with ex-husband Tommy Lee but has also previously been married to Rick Salomon,...

Despite his protestations that he shouldn't be treated "like the Medusa or the Lincoln Memorial," Jack Nicholson exudes exactly that kind of mythical aura. Before he gave up acting around 2010, he was on top of his game for decades, stringing hit movies together since the '60s and watching his star inexorably rise in the process. In the late '80s, with two Academy Awards under his belt, producer Jon Peters asked Nicholson to star as The Joker in Warner Bros. "Batman."
