Animation and fantasy go hand in hand. In the 80s, there was a boom of fantasy epics in the land of cartoons that had nothing to do with the House of Mouse and everything to do with adult content. This was helped along from the previous decade by creator Ralph Bakshi, who had started things off with Fritz the Cat and would be the first to do a feature-length version of Lord of The Rings with his animated film and the trippy flick Wizards (and later – the cult film Cool World).
During our fave decade, Anime would find a welcoming home in the US with several classics that would be released during that time. Canada would also get into the mix with Heavy Metal (which we’ll get to.) But Ralph Bakshi decided to join forces with one of the biggest names in fantasy art for a new entry into...

Some folks weren’t as thankful as they should’ve been for Dolly Parton’s halftime show during the Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving game last week. But her younger sister Stella Parton came to her defense in a scathing tweet Sunday (November 26th), calling out those who weren’t pleased with our recent cover star rocking a cheerleader costume.
“I personally thought my big sister Dolly was cute as hell in her Dallas Cowboys cheerleading costume at the half time show on Thanksgiving,” Stella wrote. “To those of you being so critical of a 77 year old kicking up her heels, I say fuck yourself. Shame on you not her.”
In the middle of the Cowboys’ turkey game showdown against the Washington Commanders, Dolly sang classics like “Jolene” and “9 to 5” as well as covers of Queen’s “We Are the Champions” and “We Will Rock You” in support of her new album Rockstar.

Dolly Parton isn’t done rocking yet. After sharing her new album Rockstar last week, our November cover star has returned with two new bonus tracks: Her rendition of the Eddie Money’s “Two Tickets to Paradise,” plus a new version of her classic “Jolene” featuring Måneskin.
The Måneskin-assisted version of “Jolene” is available exclusively with the digital download version of Rockstar on Parton’s website, though the country icon did share a preview of the duet on Instagram. It sounds like the new recording stays fairly faithful to the original, with Måneskin’s Damiano David taking on co-lead vocals with Parton.

Some people look for love in all the wrong places, and when Netflix‘s new docuseries Escaping Twin Flames debuts, we’ll explore one of the darkest corners of false promises, deception, and cultism. The three-part series investigates the Twin Flames dating platform, which devotes itself to finding people’s true love. However, what sounds like a cure for loneliness is a deceptive scam with cult-like consequences.
Escaping Twin Flames debuts on Netflix on November 8. The investigative series hails from Cecilia Peck, director of Starz’s Seduced: Inside the Nxivm Cult, and Good Caper Content, the ITV America production company. Peck’s new docuseries revolves around Jeff and Shaleia Divine, the orchestrators of the Twin Flames Universe. The couple sells online classes for lonely hearts looking to connect with their destined partner. Sadly, the Twin Flames Universe is a predatory front for an online community that preys on people hoping to connect with their soulmates.

Spoiler Alert: This article includes details about the Season 2 finale of “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” now streaming on Max.
The show may have been called “Winning Time,” but it’s ending with a historic loss. HBO has confirmed to Variety that Sunday’s Season 2 finale is the last episode of the basketball series.
After a seven-game duel between the Lakers and the Celtics, Larry Bird (Sean Patrick Small) and his Boston ballers sink a dagger into their West Coast rivals, claiming victory as the NBA champions of 1984. It’s an ugly defeat for Los Angeles, who are immediately greeted with a stampede of Celtics fans rushing the floor before they can sulk off the court. Boston uncorks the Champagne while Magic Johnson (Quincy Isaiah) collapses in the locker room showers, his spirits cratering to a new low as Led Zeppelin’s “What Is and What Should...

Elvis Presley performed covers of songs by numerous famous artists over the course of his career. In the same vein, Lisa Marie Presley recorded a cover of an Aretha Franklin song. The cover remains unreleased forever but it still has value.
What Lisa Marie Presley thought after she covered 1 Aretha Franklin song
Over the course of her career, Lisa Marie released three albums: To Whom It May Concern, Now What, and Storm & Grace. During a 2012 interview with Goldmine, she discussed her singing voice. “I don’t know that I even have a good voice to be honest with you,” she said. “What I can do is I can emote really well. My voice has got its own thing, it’s either gonna hit you right or it’s not gonna hit you right. I have an ability to emote and it’s not necessarily technically a good voice.

Country-pop star Carrie Underwood opened the first two shows of Guns N’ Roses ‘ 2023 North American tour, and she worked a handful of rock classics into her setlist on each occasion.
Underwood’s first support slot for Gn’R came this past Saturday (August 5th) in Moncton, New Brunswick, where she opened with Joan Jett’s “Bad Reputation” and played Pat Benatar’s “Hit Me with Your Best Shot,” The Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses,” Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll,” and lastly and most notably, the Motörhead staple “Ace of Spades.”
Hearing Underwood and her band take on a song bordering on heavy metal is a treat, proving that the singer can pull off heavy music with as much energy and conviction as her standard Nashville fare. Of course, it also appeals to the crowd largely consisting of Gn’R fans.

Carrie Underwood, as both a country singer and an American Idol winner, knows that the stakes are high and the odds are against her as the opening act for Guns N’ Roses. But as she has been proving this week, she’s willing to gamble — just like Motörhead’s late frontman Lemmy Kilmister. At gigs in Moncton, New Brunswick, and Montreal in the past few days, she’s included a raucous rendition of Kilmister’s calling card, “Ace of Spades,” in her set list.

P!Nk didn’t let severe thunderstorms stop her from playing a concert at Nationals Park in Washington, DC on Monday night. Instead, the singer weathered heavy rain and wind in order to the stage the highly choreographed and acrobatic production — which, at one point, even saw her soar high above the stadium in a harness.
The beginning of the concert was briefly delayed as fans were asked to wait inside of the venue’s concourse until the worst of the storms passed. P!Nk finally took the stage around 9:15 p.m. local time but still managed to run through a full 23-song set that mixed greatest hits, covers of Bob Dylan and Sade, and various aerial stunts. “Singin’ in the rain……. What a glorious feeling,” she wrote in an Instagram post alongside video of her performance. Watch the clip and other fan-captured footage below.

Rockstar is the first rock album from recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Dolly Parton. The album is a behemoth, with 30 songs and a glorious lineup of modern stars and rock legends. While Parton most certainly had a fantastic time recording with all of these artists, she said one artist provided the most fun recording session.
Dolly Parton said Stevie Nicks provided the ‘most fun’ session for ‘Rockstar’
Rockstar has so many guest stars who are accompanying Dolly Parton. Some of these artists include Paul McCartney, Joan Jett, Ringo Starr, Steven Tyler, P!nk, Brandi Carlile, Chris Stapleton, Lizzo, Miley Cyrus, Sting, Mick Fleetwood, Elton John, and Pat Benatar.

Pink received a surprise at her June 25 BST Hyde Park show in London when someone in the crowd threw a plastic bag of gray powder at her onstage while she was performing “Just Like a Pill.” The pop star halted her performance to ask the fan if the substance in the bag was human ashes.
“This is your mom?” Pink asked. “I don’t know how I feel about this.”
The music artist then set the bag behind a speaker at the front of the stage. After a moment of confusion, she went back to performing. Pink did not refer to the bag again during the concert.

Dolly Parton is soon debuting her first rock album. The album includes many iconic guest stars who will be helping Dolly with covers of classic rock songs, including “Stairway to Heaven”. Dolly Parton did record a cover of “Stairway to Heaven” in the past, but her decision to do another might have to do with her husband’s reaction to her initial version.

In 2002, Dolly Parton released her version of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” on her album Halos & Horns. Her cover was a drastic change from the original, converting into a bluegrass soul song instead of the hardcore rock ballad it is. Her husband, Carl Dean, is a passionate rock n’ roll fan, so his opinion was important to Dolly.
