Spooky season is upon us, and as always, everyone wants to try their hand at providing some terrifying, bone-chilling content. Movies, shows, and documentaries are all fun, but watching people scream their lungs out because of fake props and fantastic makeup is a thrilling experience of its own. Just like Fear Factor, in Make Me Scream, we see participants compete by facing their fears, but the supernatural kind. Three teams compete to win the ultimate medal of honor, the Medal of Mayhem. Hosted by partners Darryl M. Bell and Tempestt Bledsoe, the show has three duos competing against each other in blood-churning mazes to get their hands on the medal or “die.” A scream meter measures their screams, along with some rules to help the best duo win. Let’s quickly get into Make Me Scream.

‘Dance Til Dawn’ at 30: The Team Reflects on ‘Unusual Casting Process,’ #MeToo Relevance and DJ Dick
The spring and summer of 1988 were consumed with a writers’ strike within the film and television industry, but one project that launched in the fall came out of it unscathed: “Dance ‘Til Dawn,” an original television movie about Hoover High’s senior prom first aired on NBC Oct. 23, 1988. The movie was a who’s who of 1980s television — from Kelsey Grammer and Alan Thicke, to Christina Applegate, Tempestt Bledsoe and Tracey Gold — and its multi-generational casting allowed it to be an early pioneer of content aimed at a co-viewing audience. It was also a love letter to Los Angeles, utilizing iconic locations such as the Cocoanut Grove at the Ambassador Hotel as its soundstage. Now, 30 years after its initial release, “Dance ‘Til Dawn” also finds new relevance within the era of #MeToo and Time’s Up.

Laika, the award-winning animation studio nestled in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, celebrates 10 years of bold and memorable filmmaking this month. For a company whose name means “little barker” in Russian, Portland, Oregon-based Laika has made quite a noise in the global film industry over a relatively short time.
With its world-class filmmaking team, Laika pushes the boundaries of family entertainment and animated movies, redefining what stories can and should be told through the art form.
“When Laika began we had a simple goal: to make movies that matter,” says Travis Knight, Laika’s President and CEO, who also is lead animator and a producer on its films. “Laika is devoted to telling new and original stories in new and original ways.”
“We aspire to make films that are bold, distinctive, and enduring,” Knight continues. “We are committed to telling stories that are thematically challenging, aesthetically beautiful, emotionally resonant,...

We're continuing this periodic summer project where we revisit classic sitcom episode. Last week, we did a "NewsRadio" double feature, and today we're going to talk about one of my favorite episodes of "The Cosby Show," called "Theo's Holiday," coming up just as soon as my corporate headquarters has 49 floors but no phone... Periodically throughout the latter half of the 20th century, various TV genres would be declared dead and buried. Some of them actually stayed dead, more or less, like the Western, while others lay fallow, waiting for the right show to bring the public mood back to it. In the early '80s, the sitcom was the genre being put out to pasture, falling behind dramas of various stripes, from the lofty ambitions of "Hill Street Blues" and "St. Elsewhere" to the soapy environs of "Dallas" and "Dynasty" to the comedy/drama/action mix of "Magnum, P.I.

Glee episode "Bash" opened up on Tuesday night with Rachel (Lea Michele), Sam (Chord Overstreet), Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) walking in a candlelight vigil singing “No One Is Alone.”
Glee Recap
A neighbor of the gang was put into a coma after a hate crime beating. The four friends gather around a New York City lamppost, candles in hand with dozens of others to honor someone who very well could have been one of them. It was their neighbor’s friend, who’d been beaten up on Bleaker St. by some guys driving a pickup truck. Thankfully, he survived, but they note hate crimes are increasing in the city.
Cut from the emotional moment, Rachel is at Funny Girl rehearsal getting a pep talk from the producer. Rachel then asks him if she could push a rehearsal two hours back so that she can do her Midwinter Critique.

The guys won't have to worry about watching their kids in season two. The peacock network has pulled the plug on Guys with Kids after one season.
Co-created by Jimmy Fallon, Guys with Kids follows a trio of male friends and their partners as they all try to figure out parenthood in a modern world. They're played by Anthony Anderson, Jesse Bradford, Zach Cregger, Tempestt Bledsoe, Erinn Hayes, and Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
The sitcom premiered last September to a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.25 million viewers. That was a pretty good start, especially for NBC.
Week two saw the numbers drop more than 20% and the third episode did even worse. It looked like the ratings had evened off and that was good enough for NBC to order four more episodes, bringing the season total to 17 installments.

Phylicia Rashad hasn't been a series regular on television since "The Cosby Show" (and a few of its incarnations thereafter). But Clair Huxtable is a far cry from Dr. Vanessa Young, the character on "Do No Harm" that lured Rashad -- who's done guest spots and spent the majority of her time in theater -- back to primetime.
NBC's "Do No Harm" centers on Dr. Jason Cole (Steven Pasquale), a big-shot neurosurgeon with a multiple-personality disorder that can no longer be suppressed by an experimental medication. Now, it's wearing off, and Jason's destructive alter-ego Ian Price is coming out in the evening hours and wreaking all sorts of havoc. Rashad's character Dr. Young plays Jason's boss and a big champion of Dr. Cole, as well. But presumably, that's all about to change.
Below, Rashad talks to The Huffington Post about what drew her back into television, watching her TV kids grow up,...

The Huxtable girls are getting ready to play sisters again on the "Guys With Kids" finale.
Although their characters don't get along very well on the episode, Tempestt Bledsoe -- who plays Marny on the series -- told TV Guide she couldn't have been happier to reunite with Keshia Knight Pulliam, who will play her spoiled sister Bridget.
"I grew up with Keshia. She's like my sister, so we immediately clicked again," Bledsoe told TV Guide. "When producers decided to cast the role they asked me how I'd feel about having Keshia and I said, 'Absolutely!' I think they're fantasizing about having all of 'The Cosby Show' cast pop up."
Pulliam is equally excited about her reunion episode, but emphasized that an actual "Cosby" reunion show won't likely happen. "Mr. Cosby was very clear about wanting to maintain the purity of the legacy," Pulliam said to TV Guide.

It was a "Cosby Show" reunion on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" Friday when Bill Cosby and Tempestt Bledsoe, who played Vanessa Huxtable on the series, sat down on Fallon's couch.
The late night host explained that the "Cosby Show" reunion was a happy coincidence since both guests happened to be booked on the same night. "This is truly surreal for me," Bledsoe said about sitting next to her TV dad after a clip from her show "Guys with Kids" played that featured her talking about sex.
Fallon asked Cosby if it's fun to watch his TV daughter grow up and he replied emphatically, "No!" "When she turns out to be stunning, then you have problems," he explained.
Bledsoe said the two get together often, but Cosby told her not to lie and joked, "Sometimes my checks are late and that's when I see Tempestt."

Despite lackluster ratings, NBC has decided to order four more episodes of their new comedy series, Guys with Kids. This brings the episode total to 17. Animal Practice, the other freshman Wednesday night sitcom, was cancelled a couple weeks ago.
Revolving around a trio of young fathers, Guys with Kids stars Anthony Anderson, Jesse Bradford, Zach Cregger, Tempestt Bledsoe, and Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
A few weeks ago, NBC ordered five additional scripts -- presumably giving the network more time to make a decision about the show's fate. The cast and crew were set to begin working on the last of the original 13 episodes next week.
While Guys with Kids certainly hasn't been a ratings success, it's actually performing better than Up All Night and 30 Rock. Meanwhile, fellow newbie sitcoms Go On and The New Normal are two of the network's...

You know that NBC comedy Guys with Kids, the one we didn’t have high hopes for in our Death Watch columns?
Seems the network has a little more faith in it than we do. NBC just ordered four more episodes of the comedy, bringing its total season order to 17.
There was some hope that the return of Whitney last night would help to boost Guys, a comedy from Jimmy Fallon that stars Anthony Anderson, Jesse Bradford, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Tempestt Bledsoe. But Whitney only averaged 4.2 million and a 1.4 among adults 18-49 while Guys dropped to a 3.8 million, 1.3 million — down from its last original.

NBC has given a back order to freshman comedy Guys With Kids, executive produced by Jimmy Fallon. The pickup is for four episodes, bringing its first season to 17 episodes. The news comes on the heels of the multi-camera comedy posting a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating last night, steady with its last original two weeks ago. Guys With Kids got a tough assignment this fall, slotted on Wednesdays in a self-starting 8 Pm comedy block with the now-defunct Animal Practice. It had been the stronger of the two, regularly building onto its Animal Practice lead-in. Of NBC’s four new fall comedies, the network has given three back orders. Go On and The New Normal have received full-season pickups, with Guys With Kids getting a partial order. Both new NBC dramas, Revolution and Chicago Fire, have received Back 9 Orders. Created by Fallon, Charlie Grandy and Amy Ozols, Guys With Kids stars Anthony Anderson,...

In an age-appropriate role, Tempestt Bledsoe plays a mother of four in NBC's "Guys With Kids." Yet because of her baby face and growing up on "The Cosby Show," people expect her to somehow still be a child, frozen in time.
Bledsoe was Vanessa, the fourth of the five children on "The Cosby Show" (1984-92). Wearing a killer one-shouldered, body-hugging red dress and very high red heels, Bledsoe, 39, reflects on why she was able to resist the pitfalls that engulf so many child stars.
"I wanted to go to college on time, and I did," she tells Zap2it of attending New York University. "When Dr. Cosby found out I was doing that, he moved the shooting schedule" to accommodate her classes, she says.
Decades later, Bledsoe still beams when she says, "He put my grades on his dressing room door."

"Guys With Kids" (Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. Et on NBC) might not be reinventing the sitcom wheel -- HuffPost TV's own Mo Ryan is not a fan for those reasons -- but it does get points for having some much-needed diversity in the main cast with stars Anthony Anderson and Tempestt Bledsoe.
NBC had their strongest premiere week in almost a decade, and they responded by already picking up full seasons of three of their new shows ("Guys With Kids" was not one of the three). But NBC is still struggling to find a line-up that works, something the stars know all too well. "That's why they brought Tempestt on -- to save the network again," Anderson said. "They're like, 'She saved it with 'Cosby,' maybe she can save it with 'Guys With Kids'!"
Mediocre ratings so far mean it's unlikely that "Guys With Kids" will...

Creator Jimmy Fallon has brought his vision of Guys with Kids to the small screen, with an audience of 4.8 million in its first week. Featuring Anthony Anderson, Jesse Bradford and Zach Cregger, the new NBC comedy shows the ups and downs new dads go through even though they still act like children themselves. Sopranos and Cosby Show alum Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Tempestt Bledsoe also star.
During a recent conference call with lead Anderson and Executive Producer Charlie Grandy, the guys clued us in on some details about the new series, and why audiences shouldn't compare it to what they may have already seen. There won't be any gags about changing a diaper or having to do laundry in this one.

This evening, NBC unveils their second new sitcom that revolves around fatherhood. The New Normal features a pair of guys who want to become fathers while Guys with Kids revolves around three traditional dads who are trying to survive fatherhood. Is the latter worth watching or should it be cancelled to make way for something better?
The sitcom stars Anthony Anderson, Jesse Bradford, Zach Cregger, Tempestt Bledsoe, and Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
The critics seem to be fairly unanimous in their opinion of Guys with Kids. Here's a sampling:
Time: "Nobody goes in intending to make a bad TV show. Not even Jimmy Fallon, a funny man, and the other producers of NBC's Guys With Kids, which, let us get it out of the way, is a bad, bad TV show... Guys With Kids' problem isn't really in its heart but in its guts.

NBC debuted its third new comedy of the season, "Guys With Kids," on Wednesday night (Sept. 12). Now that you've seen it, what do you think?
As we noted in our review, the cast is full of likable actors, and in particular Anthony Anderson and Tempestt Bledsoe seem like a real couple -- they may be worn out by their four kids, but they still have genuine affection for each other and seem to be on the same page about most things. On the flip side, Erinn Hayes' shrewish ex-wife character needs some shading, but quick.
"Guys With Kids" is still very much a work in progress, but it feels like there's a sweet family show in there somewhere. Wednesday's episode was officially a "sneak preview," and it will premiere in its regular 8:30 p.m. Wednesday spot on Sept. 26. Will you be back for episode 2? Vote in our poll...

"Guys with Kids," NBC's new sitcom set in a mythical version of New York where no one locks apartment doors and people are fine with babies in bars, has its sneak peek Wednesday, Sept. 12.
The half-hour sitcom then settles into its regular time slot two Wednesdays later. It isn't fantastical the way "Grimm" is but rather conveniently mythical the way Hollywood likes life, with incredibly nasty ex-wives walking all over spineless men and kids running roughshod over befuddled parents.
Though a knee-jerk reaction would be that this is inherently sexist -- why should it be funny just because males are minding the children? -- the show is neither incredibly funny nor offensively sexist, and it has promise based on one of the couples.
The strongest is Tempestt Bledsoe (the all grown-up Vanessa from "The Cosby Show") and Anthony Anderson ("Law & Order") as Marny and Gary. She has a corporate job...

Earlier this summer, NBC chief Bob Greenblatt said part of his mission in reviving the network would be to "broaden" its comedy brand beyond the small but loyal audience that watches shows like "Community" and "Parks and Recreation."
That is, of course, his job: NBC and its cohorts are called broadcast networks for a reason. The problem is that "broad" can also be code for "dumb" -- the thinking being that by going for the easiest jokes and most obvious character beats, a comedy can bring in the widest audience. There's ample evidence of that formula working throughout television history, but broad and smart can work too: See "Modern Family," or "The Big Bang Theory," or "New Girl." NBC may even have a show like that this season in "Go On," which opened to pretty solid ratings.
NBC also, however, has "Guys With Kids," which is airing its pilot episode at 10 p.

Universal Pictures have given us this new and exclusive look at the amazing way in which ParaNorman has been animated. It’s been done using stop-motion which is a technique that is best known for being done at Aardman Animation Studios on TV programmes like Wallace and Grommet or more recently in Pirates: In an Adventure with Scientists. It never ceases to amaze me how much hard work and dedication goes into animating these characters working for days, weeks or months to produce just a few seconds of footage that will eventually go into making a feature-length movie.
In this featurette, we get to see how the faces are animated and how ParaNorman has used new techniques to make the character look even more realistic when it comes to the way they move and the way their faces and smaller details like hair all flow naturally for the finished product.

A few weeks ago Dread Central caught up with ParaNorman's directing duo of Chris Butler and Sam Fell during the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con, where we heard a bit about the basics of their delightful stop-motion animation film.
The flick features an adorably quirky hero named Norman (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee), who must save his town from a 300-year-old witch's curse and a horde of zombies that have risen from the dead to wreak havoc.
Of course, after we finally had the opportunity to see ParaNorman for ourselves (it will undoubtedly make it onto this writer's Top 5 list for 2012), we had just a few more questions for Butler and Fell regarding the film's anti-bullying message, sharing director duties, and whether or not they faced any difficulties while creating a kids' horror movie that still manages to be loads of fun for older audiences.
