Seconds after Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson entered the holding room where presenters and performers at Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy gala were to take this picture, someone became starstruck — but who that was might surprise you.
“It’s Jelly Roll!” Wilson shouted excitedly as she saw the Grammy-nominated singer-rapper. But the feeling was mutual, as Jelly Roll later murmured, if only to himself, about the surrealness of the moment. He was standing in proximity to Hanks and Wilson as Dionne Warwick sat nearby and members of Green Day were hanging out while everyone waited for one of music’s greatest architects — Davis himself — to arrive.
The interaction was just one of several “pinch-me” moments as the likes of The Isley Brothers, Maluma, Josh Groban, Lainey Wilson and many more came together to take a snapshot with Davis and commemorate the night of amazing music that was to come at the legendary party,...

Green Day’s latest album, Saviors, has arrived, and though you’ll easily find the new tracks on a number of algorithmic playlists, you won’t get any brownie points from the band for getting your music that way. In a new interview, the pop-punk trio shared their opinion: “finding your music via algorithms [is] just lazy.”
The comments come from a new discussion between Green Day and The Sun, in which bassist Mike Dirnt explained that he likes to “organically find” new things. “Social media is great for kids, but if you’re finding your music via algorithms then that’s just lazy,” reads his full quote. “All I can say is just clear your search history to find new [stuff].”
For his part, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong explained that his distaste for algorithms centers on how they can manipulate content. “With all the algorithms that people live on, there’s so much false information,...

Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt headed into 2024 knowing his band was going to be a big topic of conversation throughout the year. Their new album Saviors arrives Jan. 19, they’ll spend the summer on a massive stadium tour with Smashing Pumpkins and Rancid, and they’re celebrating the anniversaries of two career-making albums: 30 years of Dookie and 20 of American Idiot.

David Letterman appeared as a guest on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night. It marked the television icon’s first visit to the Ed Sullivan Theatre since ending his 23-year run as host of the Late Show in April 2015.
At Letterman’s personal request, The National appeared as the evening’s musical guest. The band is currently on tour, but they made a special trip to New York to fulfill Letterman’s wishes. “This is the second time in my life that this has happened to me,” Letterman noted, as Foo Fighters previously interrupted a South American tour to play Letterman’s first show back from heart surgery in 2000. “Those two groups — I’ll love them forever,” Letterman declared.
Letterman previously gushed over The National in a YouTube video earlier this year, saying: “I wish I could be [frontman] Matt Berninger because there’s nobody cooler than Matt Berninger.

Drummer Jay Weinberg revealed on Sunday (November 19th) that he underwent surgery on both his hip and femur this past Tuesday (November 14th). The stickman insisted that the medical procedures were long planned, and not related to his firing from Slipknot earlier this month.
Weinberg shared a photo of himself on crutches via Instagram, explaining that he had scheduled the surgery knowing that he had an extensive break in his touring schedule, even had he remained with Slipknot. The band’s next show is scheduled for April at Las Vegas’ Sick New World festival.
His full post reads as follows:
“This Tuesday, after three years of careful planning, I underwent an outpatient procedure to repair the torn labrum of my left hip and shave down a misshapen part of my femur — a condition that never impacted my drumming in any way, but I’ve wanted to take care of during...

Jay Weinberg received a tremendous amount of support from fellow musicians upon being let go from Slipknot, but not from his former Against Me! bandmate Laura Jane Grace. The singer-guitarist mocked the drummer’s ouster from the masked metal band, even calling him a “little bitch boy.”
The cantankerous relationship between Grace and Weinberg dates back to the drummer’s stint in Against Me! and eventual departure from the punk band. Weinberg was a member of Against Me! from 2010 to 2012, and when he joined Slipknot in 2014, Grace tweeted, “Dear Slipknot, good luck with that. #shitbag.”
In another series of tweets at that time, Grace wrote, “We once had a drummer who sprained his ankle and wanted our tour manager to call 911 and have an ambulance come for him #entitlement. When our tour manager said no the drummers Daddy called him and scolded him saying the drummer was a ‘star’ and...

Pop-punk trio Green Day, which consists of Billie Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool, and Mike Dirnt, used a meme for their hit song ‘Wake Me Up When September End’ to cryptically tease the project by sending fans to a website to “register for a wake up call.”
The website suggests the name is ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’.
Fans hit a “snooze” button before typing in their contact details to “set the alarm.” In a video clip, frontman Billie can be seen waking up before a calendar is shown with October 24 circled, meaning fans are just weeks away from finding out what it’s all about, reports aceshowbiz.com.
Last week, the band released a 30th anniversary reissue of their album ‘Dookie’. The ‘Minority’ rockers celebrated three decades of their 1994 record by dropping ‘Dookie (30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)’. The new edition features previously unreleased “Dookie” demos, as well as live...

Ukrainian punk rockers Gogol Bordello have recruited former Dead Kennedys lead singer Jello Biafra and a cast of punk and hardcore all-stars for a new collaborative charity single called “United Strike Back.” Stream it below.
The track also features Green Day’s Tre Cool, Fugazi’s Joe Lally, and Ministry’s Monte Pittman, as well as Agnostic Front’s Roger Miret, Kazka’s Oleksandra “Sasha” Zaritska, and Puzzled Panther. Over pulverizing guitars, Gogol Bordello’s lead singer Eugene Hütz is joined on vocals by Biafra, Sasha, Miret, and Puzzled Panther.
“That’s the way your palace crumbles/ That’s the way house of cards tumbles,” Hütz, Biafra, and Miret sing on the chorus. “That’s the way dictator story ends/ As we stand with brothers sisters/ And lovers and our friends.”
“Punk and hardcore is always there to show support to a friend in trouble. Especially when [it’s the] entire nation,” said Hütz in a statement.

Ringo Starr is still alive and well, thank you very much. The drummer said Paul McCartney likes to think he’s the only Bealte left, but Macca’s opinion doesn’t change the fact that the drummer and his songs live on. And Ringo’s influence on Paul might be as profound as Macca’s impact on pop music.

Green Day put the censors to work Saturday at the 2020 NHL All-Star Game as Billie Joe Armstrong dropped a series of f-bombs during the televised performance.
The band, which agreed to a multi-year partnership with the NHL and debuted their track “Fire, Ready, Aim” as an NHL promo earlier in the season, played a medley of “Basket Case” and “American Idiot” during intermission at the hockey showcase, hosted this year by the St. Louis Blues.
While neither track is expletive-filled, Armstrong ad-libbed three “fucks” into his banter with the crowd.

Green Day is back with a vengeance with their latest album, Revolution Radio, which hits stores everywhere today. Not many bands can draw a crowd from so many generations. From 6 year olds in banners bigger than they are to teens with My Chemical Romance tattoos to middle age punks with Bad Religion jackets they are all being represented here today.
All Time Low are essentially a Blink 182 tribute band to the kids who were too young for the three piece. Their perky pop with guitars is entertaining enough although unoriginal. The more upbeat ‘Time Bomb’ and ‘Lost In Stereo’ go down best in a half empty stadium. Jack Barakat, per usual, lowers the tone with butt and your mum jokes and it just feels unnecessary and a tad creepy.
With a back catalogue like the Kaiser Chiefs it’s hard to not get a crowd singing. Ricky Wilson is on form running from corner to corner of the stage and up the frame work like a hyperactive child.

Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong was heavily drinking while performing in Las Vegas over the weekend, which led him to enter rehab, Celebuzz is reporting. Claudia Suarez Wright, the ex-wife of the punk rock band’s drummer, Frank Edwin Wright III (Tre Cool), confirmed the news, saying Armstrong’s with his family and is doing okay. Claudia, whose son is the goldchild of Armstrong, revealed that the singer was drinking in Las Vegas, including the night of Green Day’s show. She added that the singer’s decision to enter rehab, which she described as difficult, was unrelated to with his hospitalization earlier this month in Italy. The business of rock -- the creative juices, the vibe, the sound and fury, the rage, the excitement, the whole kit and caboodle -- is very lacking these days. Songs come and go, like cotton candy -- looks good, tastes good, but leaves no lasting impression other than a disgusting sugary aftertaste. Few can scale the heights and maintain the majesty of Rawk! One would be hard-pressed to find young rock bands today with the chops and creativity to sustain four to five decades of arena-sized music-making like the Stones, Kiss, Tom Petty, The Boss, AC/DC, Eagles, The Who, U2. I would argue there is perhaps just one band excellent enough to carry that very heavy torch and to wave it high and wide -- Green Day. Formed in Berkley in 1987, they are well on their way: this year marks their 25th anniversary in the music biz.

The scene inside Staples Center for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards wasn’t quite rave-like, despite Edmtv’s best efforts, but between the revelers on the floor and the stars in the lower levels, there was plenty to gawk at, like these 10 things you didn’t see on the broadcast… Photos: VMAs 2012: Red Carpet Arrivals 1. With one minute to air, Green Day drummer Tre Cool took in the Staples spectacle, panning across the arena from the stairwell. It’s not like the seminal band hasn’t played a room that big before, but this was a starkly different vibe than

Green Day apparently isn't taking kindly to the expansion of electronic dance music in the states. In their new video for "Kill the DJ," Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dimt and Tre Cool ride motorcycles through the desert and eventually arrive at a sloppy dance party, complete with ravers in kandi bracelets and corsets.
Eventually, someone dies, and though the death isn't explicitly shown, the amount of blood covering the dancers -- when paired with lyrics like "Shoot the f---ing DJ / someone kill the dj / voices in my head are saying / 'shoot that f---er down'" -- doesn't leave much to the imagination.
Frontman Armstrong told Rolling Stone the song was meant to be a dance song that didn't require the trio to turn into a dance band. It carries the four-on-the-floor rhythm familiar to a wide range of dance genres.

Green Day continues to give fans peeks into “¡Uno!,” “¡Dos!,” and “¡Tre!”, the three albums coming out over a four-month period starting next month. Today, we get a live video of “Let Yourself Go,” filmed Nov. 17 at a club in Austin, Texas. The Alternative Press exclusive is a little slice of punk pop that is a straight-down-the-middle fastball from the trio: it’s propulsive, snarly, and energetic. Plus, Billie Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt are appropriately scruffy, looking like they’re running on no sleep and caffeine for days on end in the black and white clip. The live version...

Green Day has released, "Oh Love," the first official single off its upcoming power-pop album ¡Uno!. It seems like those hoping for another politically charged record like 2004's American Idiot and 2009's 21st Century Breakdown are out of luck.
"We were just thinking about making a killer power-pop record -- dirtier, back to basics," bassist Mike Dirnt told Rolling Stone. "We tapped into our version of Exile on Main Street."
"Far away, far away, waste away tonight, I'm wearing my heart on a noose, far away, far away, waste away tonight, tonight my heart's on the loose," Billie Joe Armstrong gently croons on the track.
The band's trilogy of albums, titled ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré!, will be released over this fall and winter, beginning with the release of ¡Uno! on Sept. 25. The ¡Uno! cover boasts frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's face, while ¡Dos! features bassist Dirnt and ¡Tré! highlights drummer Tre Cool.

In the past ten years, Green Day have released two ambitious concept albums, and served as the inspiration for a hit stage musical. How can they top it? By releasing a trilogy of albums. Green Day are to induct Guns N' Roses into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it has been announced. Billie Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt will pay tribute to the 'November Rain' band's legacy at Saturday's star-studded ceremony. A spokesperson for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has told The AP that Axl Rose and Slash will likely attend the ceremony, but added that a performance is unlikely. Only a bunch of punks would take the job of inducting Guns N’ Roses into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, right? But exactly which members of the multiplatinum Guns will be there to accept the honor remains cloudy. Green Day have started work on their new album. The 'When I Come Around' rockers went back in the studio yesterday (14.02.12) to begin recording the follow up to 2009's '21st Century Breakdown'. Singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong tweeted: 'Happy Valentine's Day! Officially started recording the new record today. It's F**K Time!!!! Working titles included 'Wow, That's Loud' and 'Make Out Party'. The group - completed by drummer Tre Cool and bassist Mike Dirnt - had been demoing material as early as last May. Green Day played an hour-long farewell concert as the "American Idiot" musical drew to a close on Broadway last night (25.04.11).
The punk band - made up of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool - performed a 10-song set, which included hits such as "Holiday" and "Burnout", at the St. James Theatre in New York City as the cast danced behind them drinking beer.
Following frontman Billie Joe's departure from the cast at the end of January, ticket sales for the musical had suffered.
However, the rocker reprised his role as St. Jimmy for the production's final three weeks, beginning on April 5.
Although it's Broadway run is coming to an end, "American Idiot" - which follows the life of disaffected youth Johnny as he flees his parents' suburban home - is going to continue as a touring production which will kick-off in the Us in autumn 2011.

Saturday night's headliners were a scintillating study of contrasts.

Chicago — Unless you happen to play in one of Perry Farrell's bands (and that band happens to be Jane's Addiction), the opportunity to headline Lollapalooza doesn't come around all that often. So, if you get your shot, you might as well go for it. And that was very much the mindset of both of Saturday's (August 7) bill-toppers, though, much like Friday night's Lady Gaga/Strokes face-off, Green Day and Phoenix were a study in contrasts. Both definitely rocked, they just did in very different ways.
Green Day, of course, pummeled, powered, and pulled out all the stops during their two-plus hour set, reaching deep into their expansive back catalog and using every crowd-pleasing trick in the rock-band hat.

The multi-platinum rock band Green Day is back in the states to begin the second leg of their critically acclaimed 21st Century Breakdown tour. Critics raved about the first leg, which began in North America in July 2009 before continuing onto Europe last fall. Rolling Stone had this to say about the band's tour performance: "As if releasing a wave of energy that had been building up during their four-year hiatus from touring, Green Day poured all their heart and soul into a powerhouse two-hour set." Spin noted that "the band's relationship with its audience is disarmingly real, a cross-generational give-and-take that's as punk as any Gilman Street scroungers today." After wrapping up their sold-out European stadium tour, Green Day is ready for another series of dates here in the U.S. that begins next week and includes an August 7th stop at the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago.
