In Season 1 of “The Morning Show,” Cory Ellison (Billy Crudup) is the cutthroat head of Uba’s news division who keeps his cards close to his vest and walks in and out of rooms grinning like a Cheshire cat. Cut to Season 3 and he’s still ruthless, enigmatic and grinning his way through all kinds of high-stakes situations, but he’s now the CEO of the fictional Uba network and has, most importantly, been brought to the fore of the Apple TV+ drama’s story. While his enlarged presence in the third season offers viewers more insight into the character, Crudup wasn’t quite sure what to think of it at first.

Exclusive: The ancient Scottish town of St Andrews was hit with a heavy bout of Spidey fever this past weekend as the third annual Sands International Film Festival opened, pulling in an eclectic set of films, filmmakers, and speakers alongside one popular guest of honor.
Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, also known for The Impossible, Cherry, and The Devil All the Time passed through the fest, which opened with a screening of Last Call, a short project he leads with Lindsay Duncan (Blackbird) that was co-written and directed by his brother, Harry Holland. The Holland brothers also took part in the first annual Sands golf tournament, which will continue as part of the festival’s wider activities. It was on the pristine golfing greens where Tom linked up with Deadline to discuss his career so far and plans for future projects, including whether he will return for a fourth Spider-Man movie.

Eddie Izzard stars in this gender-flipped reboot of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic horror story. Produced by the resurrected Hammer Studio, it’s creepy and atmospheric, but altogether too restrained, when it should have been allowed to run riot.
A newspaper headline at the beginning of Doctor Jekyll states that “Trans CEO Nina Jekyll” (Eddie Izzard), the head of a large pharmaceutical corporation, has become a recluse, disappearing from the public eye due to health issues. In fact, she’s holed up at a lavish British mansion, where her no-nonsense housekeeper Poole (Lindsay Duncan) has been trying to hire a live-in care assistant to assist Nina with taking her medication and various other duties.
Enter Rob Stevenson (Scott Chambers) – and yes, his middle name is Louis – a young man who has recently served time in prison,...

Review: Founded in 1934, the Hammer film production company became very popular when it started releasing horror films in the mid-1950s. From that point through the early ‘70s, Hammer was one of the biggest names in horror… but then they found it hard to compete with the big horror films of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, and things gradually fell apart for them. In 1979, the company went into liquidation. Attempts to revive the Hammer brand began in 2008, and we’ve seen some notable releases from the company in recent years: Let Me In, The Resident, The Woman in Black, and The Lodge among them.

With voting for the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards set to end on January 7, “The Morning Show” star Billy Crudup hit the SAG Foundation on Wednesday night to participate in a conversation about the Apple TV+ drama’s third season and his role as Cory Ellison on the hit show.
Crudup is a five-time SAG Award nominee and a past winner as part of the “Spotlight” ensemble. His acclaimed and Emmy Award-winning performance on “The Morning Show” has earned him three overall SAG Award nominations, including two individual Best Actor nominations for the show.
“I love the work more than anything,” Crudup said during the event – his first appearance in support of the show since the end of the actors’ strike. “This has tested my limits in this medium as TV has a different rhythm. To have the opportunity to play someone like Cory is a gift.”

I greatly looked forward to the ‘sequel’ rebirth of Hammer Horror into today’s age. It is important to note that those of us who delighted in the Halcyon days of Hammer Studios with the likes of Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, Sherlock Holmes, The Reptile, The Gorgon, and many others stalking around opulent yet budget-conscious sets with blood, gore, and low-cut necklines may be in for a bit of shock. Those types of films meaning the ‘Old’ Hammer Studios formula do not work for audiences of today. That is why Joe Stephenson Directed Doctor Jekyll (2023) is pivotal to the new ‘John Gore’ era of horror filmmaking, to that end it does not disappoint new and old on many fronts.

As she plays an unsatisfied woman seeking dangerous thrills in the TV drama Truelove, the star remembers the shocking sexism she had to endure on her way to becoming one of our classiest actors
The spectacle of Lindsay Duncan being not nice – selfish or truculent or evil to her core – will never get old. She just looks so angelic, and takes such a palpable delight in playing a character who isn’t, it’s like watching someone break out of prison.
I speak to her by Zoom. She is at home in London. She has a new ring light, which makes her look extremely radiant (I believe that’s the point), and she is really pleased with it, having just seen herself in the forthcoming comedy drama Truelove: “Let’s be frank,” she says. “It’s such a shock when I don’t look as I do in my bathroom mirror,...

[This story contains spoilers from The Morning Show season three, episode seven, “Strict Scrutiny.”]
Much of The Morning Show‘s seventh episode centers around network news host Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) joining her boss Cory Ellison (Billy Crudup) on a tense visit to his mother’s house outside of the city. Cory’s mother, played by Lindsay Duncan, is a firebrand in her own right, and Cory pays her a rare personal visit in hopes of curbing her political influence with the DOJ to his advantage amid the potential sale of their network, Uba, to billionaire tech titan Paul Marks (Jon Hamm).
“It was a proud moment for women everywhere when you told the world on live TV that you had an abortion,” Martha Ellison (Duncan) tells Bradley. And the compliment is twofold for the Apple series audience: It’s a reminder that Bradley is a pioneer for women’s rights — she fearlessly ignited a...

Hammer Films is coming back to life with a new owner and a new slate of movies, and up first is the previously announced Doctor Jekyll, which stars Eddie Izzard in the title role.
Empire Online reports this morning that Doctor Jekyll will release in UK cinemas on October 27, in the wake of the film’s recent World Premiere at FrightFest on August 25.
Director Joe Stephenson recently told Fangoria, “There’ve been over 100 cinematic adaptations of Stevenson’s novella, but there has never been a trans Dr. Jekyll. There seem to be some assumptions that because Nina is a trans character, we are somehow going to make it about gender. That is not the case; the themes of our film are true to the original work.”

Film studios don’t get much more iconic than Hammer Films, the production company that defined the horror genre in Britain throughout the 1950s, 1960s and beyond, releasing classics including Dracula, The Curse Of Frankenstein and The Mummy. Whilst the studio’s repertoire expands beyond just horror movies, its back catalogue of monsters and more are its signature, and have had a lasting impact on the genre to this day. Nearly 90 years after Hammer was founded, they’re moving into a new era with the release of Doctor Jekyll – a modern take on the classic double-identity story, starring comedy and screen legend Eddie Izzard in the titular role.
Izzard plays Nina Jekyll, an infamous doctor who takes on some hired help in the form of ex-convict Rob (Scott Chambers). Little does Rob know, he’s part of a sinister master plan concocted by Nina’s alter-ego, Rachel Hyde. Chaos and weirdness ensures,...

The Morning Show is finally back in all its glory for its third season. The Apple TV+ original series revolves around the battle between a veteran news anchor and a new talented face trying to gain supremacy over one another in the morning television industry in America. The series also focuses on issues like workplace sexual harassment.
The Morning Show initially premiered in 2019, as one of the first Apple TV+ originals. The series was a very expensive takeover for Apple TV+ but they had trust in the series and renewed it for the second season which concluded its run in November 2021, and after two years it’s finally back for its third season.

Thomas Hardiman's Medusa Deluxe is now showing exclusively on Mubi in many countries—including the United Kingdom, India, Turkey, Brazil, and Mexico—from August 4, 2023, in the series Debuts.Medusa Deluxe. In the midst of navigating the drama that ensnares all of Medusa Deluxe’s characters, Claire Perkins’s Cleve looks at a fellow hairdresser and explains, “There is some serious history in this hairstyle, do you know that? A story.” The hairstyle in question is initially shown as an unfinished work of art (or travesty if you’re a competitor hoping for a fellow stylist’s downfall): a mess of strands that’s easy to see through and hard to make sense of. But as the film progresses, Cleve creates a truly beautiful and engrossing design out of what was once incoherent webbing: a glowing ship upon a wave of hair, meant to be a recreation of the Orient,...

It’s succession season at the UK’s National Theatre with Rufus Norris, the institution’s Artistic Director, announcing that he will step down in 2025 after a decade in the post.
“It’s good to keep leadership evolving,” Norris noted during a press conference at the National’s base on the south side of the River Thames, in the shadow of Waterloo Bridge.
The National’s board will determine Norris’s successor. They will cast a net far and wide and there’s an eagerness to end the white male hold on the Nt’s leadership.
Meanwhile, Norris has been getting on with the business of running the country’s flagship theatre company.

In the very early days of prestige television, a series appeared (some say it began the prestige era) that gave us a glimpse of what the future would hold. That series was "Rome," the story of the rise and fall of Julius Caesar (Ciarán Hinds) and the romance and death of Mark Antony (James Purefoy) and Cleopatra (Lyndsey Marshal). The series was gorgeous and full of rich historical detail, and the performances were spectacular.
The series, which ran from 2005-2007, came to us from John Milius, William J. MacDonald, and Bruno Heller. It nabbed talented actors like Hinds, Purefoy, Marshal, Lindsay Duncan, Polly Walker, Tobias Menzies, Kevin McKidd, and the late Ray Stevenson. It won a Director's Guild award, seven Primetime Emmy Awards, and quite a number of others.
The sets were stunning and actually existed in the world, in the historic Cinecittà Studios, right in Rome, from the Forum...

Dame Julie Walters has been forced to leave the cast of the forthcoming Channel 4 drama Truelove, due to ill health.
The veteran star of stage and screen, 73, was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer in 2018.
In 2020, she gave an interview in which she revealed that she had got the all-clear and said that she felt like a “different person” after having cancer.
Walters’ role as Phil in the drama Truelove was set to be her return to TV after a seven-year hiatus (she was last seen in the acclaimed 2016 Channel 4 drama National Treasure).
Walters will be replaced on the show by Lindsay Duncan, who now stars opposite The Wire’s Clarke Peters.
The pair play former teenage sweethearts who reunite at a friend’s funeral after many years, and make a pact to help each other experience dignified deaths, rather than slow declines.

This was before streaming and the rise (and fall) of many services with a whole lot of money to burn. "Rome" was incredibly expensive, but it was so good that fans clamored for more. There were supposed to be five seasons, though we only got the first wonderful one and a second, very rushed (but still good) season. Eddie Izzard has revealed that the late Alan Rickman spoilt one of Harry Potter’s biggest twists over a dinner.
Rickman played Severus Snape in the hit film adaptations of Jk Rowling’s wizard-themed children’s books.
Comedian and activist Izzard reflected on her interactions with Rickman for a recent feature in The Guardian.
According to Izzard, she went out to dinner with Rickman in New York while she was there performing in a play.
“Alan had started playing Professor Snape from the Harry Potter films,” Izzard recalled. “He portrayed him with an intense and brittle spirit. I asked if Snape continued in future stories.
“‘Well’, he said, ‘the latest book has just come out, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’. Then he quietly added: “And I – I am the Half-Blood Prince!”
While Izzard claims that the meeting took place in 2003, Half-Blood Prince wasn’t in fact published until 2005.

A director’s feature debut is a chance to make a statement and A Banquet from Ruth Paxton does this emphatically.
It is one of the most anticipated films showing at this year’s Glasgow Film Festival.
This physiological-thriller sees a family endure one trauma after another in a story that questions your beliefs. We see a mother-daughter relationship pushed to the extremes all whilst exploring issues of mental health and anxiety.
This screenplay from Justin Bull stars Sienna Guillory alongside Jessica Alexander, Ruby Stokes as well as Lindsay Duncan in a tense family drama that keeps you on edge.
We caught up with Sienna to talk about peas, dealing with trauma and working with Ben Wheatley again for The Meg 2.
Signature Entertainment presents A Banquet in Cinemas & Digital Platforms 11th March and showing at Glasgow Film Festival on March 5th – tickets are available here

Warning: This A Discovery of Witches review contains spoilers.
It’s a bold choice to set up a season with multiple magical villains and then not conclude it with an earth-shaking, lightning-bolts-from-fingers battle, but with a… meeting. Admittedly, a meeting in which a massive glowing tree spurted out of a book and so very much not your average huddle, but still, a meeting all the same – one we’ve seen in almost every episode of A Discovery of Witches since the start. There was protocol, a chairperson, a vote and that awkward bit where everybody’s waiting outside with their coffees/ancient keys waiting for the Wi-Fi code. There was probably even some poor daemon taking the minutes and then sending out an email detailing the relevant action points.
Action point 1: revoke the Covenant. Action point 2: redistribute power equitably between the species. Action point 3: mingle, singles! The...

“We’ve all got problems, darling, don’t be the show.” At about the midpoint of A Banquet, a grandmother frames her granddaughter’s mental health crisis as an elaborate psychodrama. June is always on the periphery, undermining her own daughter’s approach to parenting. Underestimating the seriousness, and thinking spending money is the best way to expedite the whole situation, feels like a specifically Baby Boomer solution to a GenZ problem. Three generations of women, their outlook, attitude and crisis-mindset are on naked, acutely uncomfortable display in Ruth Paxton’s debut feature. A Banquet begins the with the strange death of Holly’s husband. He is bedridden with some kind of painful wasting disease, and dies...
