‘Reputation Rehab.’
Two years ago writers-producers Sophie Braham and Melina Wicks had the idea of a show which tackled ‘outrage culture,’ the ugly phenomenon of public figures being pilloried in Tweets and media headlines for real or imagined mistakes.
Together with Cjz’s Nick Murray, they pitched the idea to the ABC, which agreed to fund the development of Reputation Rehab.
Presented by Kirsten Drysdale and Zoe Norton Lodge, who are co-writing and co-producing with Braham and Wicks, the eight-part show premieres at 9.05 pm on October 28 and could not be more topical, according to Nick Hayden.
“It’s a show about shaming, the outrage in the media cycle and the audience’s involvement in how that cycle perpetuates itself,” says Hayden, who was promoted earlier this month to ABC head of entertainment from entertainment manager.

Niki Aken at Charlie’s in La
Like the rest of the crew and cast, Niki Aken was gutted when the production of the ABC comedy Why Are You Like This was shut down with two weeks filming to go.
Aken is the script producer on the six-part show created and written by Naomi Higgins, Humyara Mahbub and Aunty Donna’s Mark Samual Bonanno, produced by Sarah Freeman for the directors Jessie Oldfield and Adam Murfet’s production company Ckol.
A spin-off of the pilot funded by the Screen Australia/ABC Fresh Blood initiative, the series follows best friends Mia (Olivia Junkeer) and Penny (Higgins) and Penny’s aloof housemate Austin (Wil King).
“Obviously it was the the right call, but gutting for the cast and crew,” Niki says. “It was a normal, human response to an unprecedented situation.

‘Why Are You Like This‘.
Comedy Why Are You Like This, one of four pilots supported through Screen Australia and the ABC’s Fresh Blood initiative, has been greenlit for a six-part series.
Created and written by Naomi Higgins, Humyara Mahbub and Aunty Donna’s Mark Samual Bonanno, Why Are You Like This follows best friends Mia and Penny as they navigate their 20s in Melbourne, along with Penny’s dramatic and aloof housemate, Austin. Guided by their own modern day moral code, they confront complex social issues in an outrage driven world, leaving a path of destruction in their wake.
Screen Australia and the ABC’s ongoing Fresh Blood initiative is designed to uncover a new generation of comedic talent. Why Are You Like This was one of four pilots produced thanks to the program in 2018, alongside Michael Cusack’s Aacta-nominated Koala Man, Becky Lucas and Cameron James’ Be...

Sarah Freeman.
Early next year, Victorian producer Sarah Freeman will begin a six-month placement in La working with LuckyChap Entertainment, the production company founded by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara.
Supported by Film Victoria, the placement will see Freeman work with the LuckyChap team to develop and package films, strategise potential co-production and financing opportunities, write script coverage and draft pitch documents, and gain insights into the general operations of Hollywood.
LuckyChap has followed on from its I, Tonya success with indie Dreamland, which stars Robbie and Travis Fimmel, and is currently in pre-production on Birds of Prey (and The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) with Warner Bros, Kroll & Co. Entertainment and Clubhouse Pictures.
The company has a first look production deal with WB, and has several projects in development including an adaptation of novel Bad Monkeys, written Jessica Knoll and co-produced with Universal/Dylan Clark Productions,...

Polished concludes this week with Sarah Rayne of the excellent Los Angeles band Babes. (See them in San Francisco on December 11 and their hometown on December 12.) Even if you don't know Babes, you know Rayne's voice: She was Sid's little sister in the original Toy Story. She did a bunch of other acting as a kid/adolescent as well, but has stuck to music lately. Before Babes went out for its first big U.S. tour, Jamie Lee talked to Rayne about her interesting life.

Runtime 4 minutes
Written and directed by Todd Freeman, M is for Marriage (formerly titled Love Sick) is a short film currently in the running for a spot in the upcoming anthology horror film ABCs of Death 2.
Starring Natalie Victoria, Jeffree Newman, and Michael Draper, the film tells the story of a couple attending marriage counselling. The counselor uses a very unusual technique—having his patients visually manifest their pain. The couple is separated for this, but things don't go well for this particular couple.
M is for Marriage is a unique short film that I found to be quite compelling. The acting is well done, especially by Natalie Victoria who expertly conveys the deep hurt and anger she feels toward her husband. It is simply but effectively shot and edited, and the Special Effects are amazing. I think the other...

Update: We learned that this isn't Jennifer Lawrence singing, but a talented vocalist named Sarah Rayne. The clip was sent to us labeled "Jennifer Lawrence music video" so we apologize for the mistake. She's young, gorgeous and talented ... and we're even more envious of Jennifer Lawrence after hearing her sing! The 22-year-old actress shows off her musical ability in her new thriller "House at the End of the Street," opening today. Her character Elissa's notes turn to screams as she uncovers the mystery of the scary house next door! Unlike her role in "The Hunger Games," Jennifer is no longer the hunter, she's the prey. Also starring in the film is brooding blue-eyed hottie Max Theriot, who you may know from "Chloe" and "My Soul to Take." Check out more stills from the film below, and catch it in theaters this weekend. If Jennifer ever needs a fall-back career, she could always become a singer.

This week, we get the pleasure of seeing Jennifer Lawrence wade into unfamiliar territory as the heroine of an old fashioned horror movie. "House at the End of the Street" pits Lawrence against the deranged younger sister of a boy she likes, and the Academy Award-nominated actress shines through as always.
Here are our five reasons to see "House at the End of the Street."
Jennifer Lawrence: Always Great
As she stars in more movies, it's becoming readily apparent that Lawrence will be good in every movie she's in. Whether it's searching for her meth-addicted father in the Ozarks, killing other kids, or running away from a secret basement sister, Lawrence brings life and charm to any role, helping to connect quickly with her character. "House at the End of the Street" is no exception, even when her character, Elissa, makes some poor, "going into the basement"-related decisions.

"House At The End Of The Street" was shot before Jennifer Lawrence was even cast in "The Hunger Games." The horror film was originally set to come out in February, but got pushed back by Lionsgate to better take advantage of Lawrence's standing as Katniss Everdeen. In the end, the decision will likely pay off: "House At The End of the Street," buoyed by a marketing campaign focused on Lawrence (and her decolletage), should finish on the top half of the weekend box office chart come Sunday night.
Of course, that doesn't mean "House At The End Of The Street" (or #Hates, as the film is being promoted as on Twitter), is without controversy. Earlier this week, as part of the promotion push for the film, Lionsgate released a clip of Lawrence singing a song called "All You've Got To Do Is Fall In Love."

Forget that little Mockingjay whistle — Katniss can sing! Or so we all thought a few days ago, when a new House at the End of the Street clip showed up featuring Jennifer Lawrence singing and strumming a guitar. And while it sounded nice, it's not J-Law. She recorded her own vocals for the scene — a version Showblitz hears "wasn't half bad and nearly made the cut" — but a singer called Sarah Rayne ended up dubbing over the song. Psych!

"In the Hands of an Angry God" was just another in an impressive string episodes to kick off Copper.
The subject matter of race relations after the Civil War, handled by a lesser drama, could have been so different. It has been, on many other shows, not portrayed so closely to the actual time in which our nation fought to, among other things, put an end to slavery. In New York City, in Five Points, the melting pot was about as full as you could get.
When an Irishman was found hanged by a negro child, all Hell broke loose. The Irish were calling for the "niggers" to be found and hung for his murder... before they were even sure how he died. That wasn't uncommon. What was uncommon was the way in which Copper handled the tragedy. Kevin Corcoran, as always, turned to his black friend, Doctor Matthew Freeman,...

As Catherine Zeta-Jones announces treatment for bipolar disorder, we look at bipolar symptoms, triggers, and types
What is it?
Mental health charity Mind describes bipolar disorder (previously known as manic depression) as a mental illness which causes extreme mood swings from periods of hyperactivity and excited behaviour – known as mania – to deep depression. Each period can last several months, although many people with bipolar disorder have stable periods between extremes. The disorder can also cause hallucinations and delusions.
How many people have it?
About 1 in every 100 adults has bipolar disorder at some point in their life, with men and women equally affected, according to the Royal College of Psychiatrists. It usually starts during or after teenage years and is unusual in adults over 40.
What triggers it?
Less is known about the causes of bipolar disorder than other mental illnesses, but factors including genetics, hormone and brain chemical imbalances and stressful...
