She is the daughter of the late Sanskritist Daniel Henry Holmes Ingalls, Sr. (1916-1999) and Phyllis Sarah née Day (1911-1982), and the sister of the computer scientist Daniel Henry Holmes Ingalls, Jr. (born 1944).
