All five of The Voice’s finalists took a turn around the stage Tuesday night, but only one of them was doing a victory lap. Which? C’mon. You know the drill. We all agree that Michael Jackson is known for his enduring dance moves and infectious dance-pop songs, but one of his most poignant ballads, She’s Out of My Life, has a special place in his discography. This heartfelt song, produced by Quincy Jones, highlights Jackson’s emotional depth and vulnerability.
Written by veteran songwriter Tom Bahler, the song was released as the fourth single from Jackson’s 1979 album Off the Wall. Though the album gave the world, many upbeat songs, it also produced a breakup song (She’s Out of My Life) that made Jackson cry every time he tried to sing it.

Doja Cat was one of the biggest stars to perform at Coachella this year. The singer was in charge of closing out the musical extravaganza, which lasted from April 19th to April 21st.

The biographical documentary is a genre that lends itself to a reliable storytelling formula. First, we look back on the origins of the subject; we are introduced to some of the key figures that helped them along the way; we are shown the beginning of their career all the way to the end, and are then left to contemplate their legacy.
Due to the predictability of this format, these documentaries can often come off as by-the-numbers, taking us on a telegraphed emotional journey intended as a crowdpleaser. But every once in a while, there’s a subject who is so unique that their story elevates the formula. Allee Willis is one such subject, with a life story that’s energetic, colorful and invigorating to witness. Director Alexis Manya Spraic crafts a documentary that strives to be just as fascinating as its subject.

When award-winning filmmaker Dawn Porter — who directed the upcoming Luther Vandross documentary Luther: Never Too Much — thinks of her favorite song by the legendary singer, she selects “So Amazing,” the timeless track he wrote and produced for Dionne Warwick and later recorded himself.
But then she pauses. “I think it’s hard for me because I’m very attached to some scenes right now,” she says. Then she speaks about “Any Love,” Vandross’ autobiographical song about wanting to find the one and the sadness behind being alone. The track topped the R&b charts in the late ’80s.

Norby Walters, the onetime music agent who ran the annual “Night of 100 Stars” Oscar party for years and hosted an iconic low-stakes poker party for actors, died December 12. He was 91. His son, Walters Media Group founder and former Bold Films CEO Gary Michael Walters, confirmed the news but did not provide details.
Born Norbert Meyer, in 1952 Walters started booking jazz luminaries such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz into his father’s bar.
Walters and his brother, Walter took over a place from their father and dubbed it Norby & Walter’s Bel Air, but its sign had no ampersand — which led to the name Walters would use during his career. He later took over a failing nightclub located next to the world-famous Copacabana, dubbed it Norby Walters’s Supper Club, and attracted a who’s who of boldfaced New York City names.
“What was I going to do?...

Gwen Stefani made her second steal of the season on Monday’s (October 23) episode of The Voice, grabbing one of Reba McEntire‘s acts after a dramatic Battles performance. McEntire paired up two of her most powerful singers, music industry veteran Ms. Monét and former Songland contestant CORii, for a showstopping face-off. The two performers sang Patti Labelle‘s “New Attitude,” absolutely wowing the coaches and studio audience with their jaw-dropping vocals. This left The Queen of Country with a tough decision, and she went back and forth on who to keep on Team Reba and who to eliminate. The struggle was so difficult that, at one point, she asked host Carson Daly to make the choice for her, though he declined. Ultimately, McEntire decided to keep Ms. Monét on her team. However, before CORii left the stage, Stefani and Niall Horan slammed their steal buttons. This marked the second...

A version of this response appeared on the Black Rock Coalition’s website.
When Rolling Stone co-founder Jann Wenner made offensive comments in The New York Times about women and Black artists, the Black Rock Coalition, which has battled stereotypes and musical categorizations about what rock is “supposed to be” since 1985, felt obligated to speak out and condemn his misogynistic and racist statements. While we were among many organizations and individuals to call out Wenner, he also had a number of supporters, citing his contributions to popular culture and to the world of music journalism.

“The Wonder Years” reboot will not return for a third season at ABC, TheWrap has learned.
The network has chosen to cancel the sitcom starring Elisha “Ej” Williams, Dulé Hill and Saycon Sengbloh, which ran for two seasons. The cancellation comes just over a month after the coming-of-age drama aired the finale for its sophomore season, which saw the Williams family head to Disneyland.
Debuting its first season in September 2021, the reimagining of the ’80s series of the same name similarly centered on the Black middle-class Williams family during the late ’60s in Montgomery, Al. Don Cheadle narrated the series an adult Dean Williams while Elisha “Ej” Williams played 12-year-old Dean onscreen.
In May 2022, controversy came over the show as executive producer and director Fred Savage — who starred in the original series — was fired after multiple allegations of inappropriate conduct. While specifics regarding the misconduct were not revealed at the time,...

The Oldenburg Film Festival has picked two iconoclast filmmakers to honor for its 30th anniversary edition: French actor/director Isild Le Besco and Canadian producer Jen Gatien. Both women have carved out unique paths in independent cinema, defying conventions and expectations.
Le Besco has worked in front of the camera since she was eight, and by her early 20s was already a face of French auteur cinema, with two César nominations — for her performances in Benoît Jacquot’s Sade (2000) and Cédric Kahn’s Roberto Succo (2001) and a best actress honor in Venice for Jacquot’s L’Intouchable (2006).
Her directorial debut, 2004’s Demi-Tarif (Half-Price), the story of three young siblings, Romeo (Kolia Litscher), Launa (Lila Salet), and the youngest, Leo (Cindy David), left on their own in a rundown Paris apartment, was an unmediated look into the world of childhood and drew praise from the likes of Mia Hansen-Løve, whose review,...

“The Wonder Years” set the stage for an awkward “West Wing” reunion ahead of the ABC sitcom’s latest episode Wednesday.
In an exclusive clip shared with TheWrap, Bill Williams (Dulé Hill) and his wife Lillian (Saycon Sengbloh) have a quick conversation about the party they’re attending at the home of his new friend Alan (Bradley Whitford).
After delighting party guests with a Marvin Gaye joke, Bill is interrupted by Lillian after she comes to him with a concerned look on her face and suggesting they should both go home.
“I think this is some kind of sex party,” Lillian tells her husband in the clip. He tries to ease her mind, saying that she should stop reading their daughter Kim’s Cosmopolitan magazine.
“Sex party? My goodness Lillian, just be cool,” he adds, before Alan comes behind and puts his arm around him.
“Hey, you guys want to come down to the basement?...

It’s a slow year for hip-hop so far, especially on the charts. Big names like J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, and Jay-Z haven’t released new music in 2023, other icons like Nicki Minaj seem to be prepping for Q4 releases, and so far there’s just not been a lot of hip-hop topping the charts. In fact, no number-one song this year has been by a hip-hop artist. Even worse, there has not even been a number-one album by a rapper this year either, with releases from high-profile names like Gunna and Lil Durk failing to reach the top spot. The silver lining is that a weak year for rap overall means that the Grammys’ rap categories might be more fun than ever, with no boring sweeps or predictably locked categories in sight.

Simply the best. On Sunday night, Patti Labelle paid tribute to her late friend and musical icon, Tina Turner, with a soul-stirring performance during the BET Awards.
Labelle took the stage to honor the incomparable Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, paying tribute to the late Turner with a rendition of “The Best.” Wearing a sparkly fringe minidress reminiscent of Turner’s signature style, the Godmother of Soul showed off her powerhouse vocals as she belted out the song’s lyrics — but not without a stumble here and there as she struggled to keep up with the teleprompter used to guide her through the song’s entirety.
Although Labelle’s vocals were solid, she admitted she wasn’t able to see the lyrics on the teleprompter throughout the tribute, telling the crowd, “I can’t see the words and I don’t know. I’m tryin’, y’all!”
