Nowhere is safe. This most basic of horror premises — and the sheer simplicity of its implications — has fueled countless classics and scares over the years. One of the biggest early surprises of this year's Tribeca Film Festival, "The Damned," takes this unsettling idea to even greater heights and establishes a can't-miss new talent cut from a similar cloth as Robert Eggers along the way. Icelandic writer/director Thordur Palsson (Netflix's "The Valhalla Murders" miniseries) makes his feature debut with a story set amid the late 1800s in a desolate fishing station, where a tiny Nordic community ekes out a living from a punishing environment that treats them as hostile invaders. The harsh (but gorgeously-shot) tundra and freezing waters trapping them on all sides lends a physical threat as imposing as the labyrinthine Nostromo in "Alien" or the research station in "The Thing." But in a supernatural wrinkle taken straight...

Written by Jamie Hannigan, The Damned follows Eva (Odessa Young), a 19th-century widow who is tasked with making an impossible choice when a ship sinks off the coast of her isolated fishing outpost during the middle of an especially cruel winter. The history of Hollywood adapting video games in movies and TV shows has been a little spotty, to say the least, but in recent years, I think the tide has been turning. With shows like The Last of Us and Fallout, video game fans have developed a little hope to see their favorite adapted into a great piece of art and while there will still be wasted efforts like Netflix’s The Witcher and Paramount+’s Halo, they are still only two shows. So, in keeping with that spirit of hope we created a list of the 10 best TV shows that were adapted from video games, they can be original stories in the world of video games but they have to be connected to the original IP.

HBO has released the first full-length trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 (via SFFGazette.com), and brace yourselves because it's epic. In the newly released footage, we see more of the scheming which continues in Westeros as war beckons between Queen Alicent Hightower and Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen.
The Targaryen civil war known as the "Dance of the Dragons" is nearly upon us and this sneak peek does a phenomenal job of setting the stage for the conflict to come.
All the major players are highlighted, with the sneak peek ending on a suitably epic note as Rhaenyra stands tall with Syrax looming large behind her. Who will prevail? Book readers (and most Game of Thrones fans) will know, but we won't spoil anything here,
"The first season was so much about the royal family, that 1 percent of the upper 1 percent that rules this world. All the people in the...

Sonic the Hedgehog is quite the asset for Paramount+.
The streamer debuted the six-episode limited series Knuckles on April 26, expanding the “Cinematic World of Sonic the Hedgehog” — and setting a streaming record in the process.
In its premiere weekend, Knuckles became the most-watched Paramount+ original series of all time with more than 4M hours streamed over that time frame. It’s also Paramount+’s most watched kids and family title ever.
Paramount+ rarely releases streaming data on its own accord, last touting the success of Lawmen: Bass Reeves. “Knuckles,” the live-action/animated spinoff series currently streaming on Paramount+ and featuring the titular red Echidna warrior (voiced by Idris Elba), kicks things off with an amusing ’90s throwback opening title sequence. We encounter markered animations (done by Picturemill) of the main characters, as they jump across the labels of mixed CDs in a binder and roll by the credits, to the tune of “The Warrior” by Scandal featuring Patty Smyth.
It’s all part of Knuckles getting introduced to the “earth music” of his new protégé, dim-witted deputy sheriff Wade Whipples (Adam Pally), while trying to teach him the ways of Echidna-style fighting.

Taking place between the events of Sonic 2 and Sonic 3, Knuckles (Idris Elba) has a mammoth task on his hands while trying to settle into Earth’s ways. Deputy Sheriff Wade Whipple (Adam Pally) is being trained in the way of an Echidna warrior, but there’s a new villain on the scene — The Buyer (Rory McCann), a former lackey of Doctor Robotnik (Jim Carey) who seeks to obtain Knuckles’ power.
Perhaps there’s an argument to be made that all franchised movies should get a little TV teaser in between waiting for installments as a little treat for their patience. Knuckles is exactly that for fans of Sonic, effortlessly picking up where the events of Sonic 2 left off. It’s rare that a TV programme will begin by walking you through...

"So what is real anymore? What is truth? Is this an innocent rabbit?" Or is he just... a regular rabbit? This delightfully clever short film is much more intellectual and profound than it may seem at first glance. It's about more then just a cute bunny. Regular Rabbit is an animated short film made by an Irish animation filmmaker named Eoin Duffy. After playing at festivals for the last few years, it's finally out for everyone to watch. A banished rabbit runs from his home. Failing to evade an unstoppable tide of lies, the rabbit falls into the deepest darkest recesses of society. Until one day, it appears rumors may finally turn to reality for this once regular rabbit. Featuring extraordinary narration by Rory McCann. This is the concept: "Regular Rabbit challenges our readiness to believe absurd misinformation by deliberately separating visuals from narrative. One does not match the other.

Sega and Paramount have made a Sonic The Hedgehog spin-off television series called Knuckles, here’s the trailer.
Sonic The Hedgehog is among the top selling video game franchises of all time. Launching on the Sega Mega Drive in 1991, the blue Hedgehog with super speed has graced countless video games, and after a failed attempt to make an animated film in the 1990s, he finally made a very successful leap to the big screen in 2020. Voiced by Ben Schwartz, it saw him go up against his arch nemesis Dr. Robotnik, played with maniacal relish by Jim Carrey. After being teased at the end of the first film, the 2022 sequel introduced Tails and Knuckles, voiced by Colleen O’Shaughnessey and Idris Elba.
News landed recently that the third film will see Carrey reprise his role, despite his previous assertion that he was retiring, with Krysten Ritter, Alyla Browne, James Wolk, Sofia Pernas,...

The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is off and running (pun intended). Not long ago, the official movie’s social media account released a short announcement trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in addition to the announcement that Jim Carrey, who had been circling around the decision to retire, will in fact return as the eggman himself, Dr. Robotnik. The third installment in the series teased the crossover of another character from the Sega game’s universe, Shadow, as the latest addition to the hedgehog family. Paramount has also now released the trailer for the Paramount+ limited series, Knuckles.

Buckle up, Sonic fans: your favourite echidna is back. After being introduced on the big screen in Sonic The Hedgehog 2, the Idris Elba-voiced Knuckles is returning in his very own spin-off show titled (you guessed it) Knuckles. The six-episode series will be coming to Paramount+, depicting the spiky-fisted friend of Sonic and Knuckles as he tries to train up Adam Pally’s Wade as an Echidna Warrior. As you can imagine, chaos ensues. Check out the trailer here:
The show is arriving in the not-too-distant future, and will bridge the gap between Sonic 2 and its upcoming threequel. It sees Jeff Fowler returns as director – having helmed both Sonic movies, and the incoming third film – and Sonic 2’s John Whittington is on writing duties. You've seen these super-powered critters save the world a time or two, but what America and the world at large really want to know is ... what do they do on their day off? Apparently, for alien heroes with a taste for battle, that involves makeshift gladiatorial arenas and a never-ending quest for vengeance. That's courtesy of the popular breakout character from "Sonic the Hedgehog 2," which featured Idris Elba's dulcet tones as the voice of Knuckles. Now, ahead of this year's release of the third "Sonic" film, everybody's favorite red echidna is getting his own spin-off series titled, fittingly enough, "Knuckles."

Jamie Child’s directing debut follows a former motocross champ through tedious scrapes and strident geezer movie cliches
It could theoretically be an enticing proposition: a moody crime thriller set in the north-east, with proven TV talent Jamie Childs making his feature directing debut. But this lands with a sickening thud: what we get is a charmless anti-Get-Carter of dullness, with all the strident geezer movie cliches that somehow stay stubbornly alive in British cinema. The action sequences are lifeless and often simply tedious, the characters are inert and unconvincing and there is some catatonically wooden acting.
Oliver Jackson-Cohen plays Jack Dawson, nicknamed “Jackdaw”; he is a biker and former motocross champ who has come back to his home town after a spell in the army. In need of cash, he rashly accepts a dodgy job from a criminal acquaintance in the club scene to pick up a hidden package.

The film then sends him on a journey through the nocturnal underworld of northern England's industrial wasteland. Most of the film follows Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Jack Dawson (hence "Jackdaw") on his motorbike, trying to stay ahead of the other drug dealers and criminals after him. The cast includes Jenna Coleman, Thomas Turgoose, and Rory McCann. This is a slick thriller, I quite...

British thriller Jackdaw, which stars Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Jenna Coleman, is coming to cinemas 26 January.
Jamie Childs’ ambitious British thriller Jackdaw received its world premiere at the 2023 Fantastic Fest, but UK audiences won’t have a chance to see the film until 2024. Jackdaw is now scheduled to be released on 26 January.
Starring Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Jenna Coleman, the film revolves around a former motocross champion and army veteran who agrees to deliver a mysterious package on behalf of a local criminal, but things don’t go quite as planned. Do they ever?
There’s a trailer too, which you can watch below.
Jackson-Cohen and Coleman recently starred together in Prime Video’s thriller series Wilderness, which found the couple playing married couple. In Wilderness, Coleman’s Liv fantasised about killing her cheating hubby Will (played by Jackson-Cohen) but it seems that the actors have a friendlier chemistry this time around.

Cast your mind back to season 3 of HBO's "Game of Thrones." Those who had read the books by George R.R. Martin that the series was based on had quite the dilemma. How would we keep from spoiling the Red Wedding? This was a huge event in the books, and readers spent a lot of time trying to keep it a secret as our non-reader counterparts sat on the couch next to us and tried to watch episode 9, "The Rains of Castamere."
If you have somehow managed to avoid what happened, here's a refresher. After Robb Stark (Richard Madden) loses half of his army through desertion, he and his mother, Catelyn (Michelle Fairley), visit House Frey for aid. Walder Frey (David Bradley) is angry because Robb was supposed to marry one of his daughters but chose someone else instead. When the song "The Rains of Castamere" begins to play as a signal,...

"Game of Thrones" had it all. Dragons, controversies, book readers trying to keep from spoiling non-book readers, intense fear of character deaths, and one of television's best team-ups: The Hound (Rory McCann) and Arya Stark (Maisie Williams). Sandor Clegane, aka the Hound, had a rough start in life, with his brother Gregor sticking his head in a fire for playing with one of Gregor's toys. He was the bodyguard to the evil little Prince Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) and later took to the road with Arya.
The Hound's turn from a total jerk to Arya's protector of sorts (not that she ever needed one) and ... dare I say, friend ... was one of the best parts of the show. The banter between the two of them ended up being some of the most delightful moments, and if they'd just shown us endless episodes of the Hound and Arya show, I would have tuned in every week.
