2010 - 91 mins. - Rated R
D: Antti J. Jokinen
C: Hilary Swank, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Christopher Lee, Lee Pace, Michael Massee, Aunjanue Ellis, Penny Balfour, Kisha Sierra, Peggy Miley, Michael Showers
A tenant is unaware of what horrors and what dangers await her as her landlord develops a dangerous obsession with her.
The Resident isn't bursting at the seams with originality. The overall premise has been done to death a million times already. So what makes The Resident a better then usual offering in this sub-genre? Well, it's well made and well executed on every level. However, what takes it a step up from the normal is the performances. Hilary Swank makes for an appealing heroine. Christopher Lee contributes some solid support in his brief amount of screen time. The real standout, though, is Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He not only plays this part of a crazed admirer, he inhibits the part.

The Resident starring Hilary Swank (Insomnia) and Jeffery Dean Morgan (Jonah Hex) will not be hitting theatres as expected, within Canada or the Us. Instead, this film, from Hammer Film Productions, will go to DVD and Blu-Ray March 29th,. United Kingdom horror fans can expect to see the film March 11th. Image Entertainment will distribute.
This is a major blow to Hammer Films, which created this film. Hammer Films has only produced three films in the last ten years and the $20 million price tag on this piece will be hard to recover from sales on home entertainment alone. The film's trailer is below and the latest film poster is listed left.
The synopsis for The Resident here:
"The story tells of Juliet Dermer (Hilary Swank), a doctor who moves into the attic of an apartment block and begins to suspect that someone is watching her, only to discover that her landlord,...

Hammer Films is one of the oldest production companies in the business. Hammer is based in London and while this organization has not produced films since the 1980's things are about to change with The Resident. Starring Hilary Swank (The Black Dahlia), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Jonah Hex), and Christopher Lee (Triage), The Resident is currently in post-production. Filming for The Resident began in May of 2009 and was completed in July of the same year, with shooting taking place in New York and New Mexico (Uhm). Now, that principal photography has been completed, by Hammer Films, a new trailer is available for fans.
In this clip Swank's character Dr. Juliet Dermer moves in to a new apartment. Here, Dermer is under constant surveillance via hidden cameras and microphones. Events come to a head as Dermer confronts the man responsible for invading her privacy. Have a look at the trailer and several photos from the production below.

The controversial MembershipFirst faction of SAG announced Friday a slate of 33 potential candidates who will vie for openings on the national and local boards and go head-to-head with the newly formed opposition group, Unite for Strength.
Among the actors looking to fill Hollywood's 11 national board seats and 22 local seats are 11 new MembershipFirst candidates, including Scott Bakula, Keith Carradine, Charles Shaughnessy and Joely Fisher. Also on the slate are 22 incumbents to the board, including JoBeth Williams, Joe Bologna, and Lainie Kazan.
The announcement of the candidates comes a day before a crucial SAG national board meeting Saturday and two days after Unite for Strength announced its intention to contest seats held by those in MembershipFirst. Unite's 31 candidates include Amy Brenneman, Kate Walsh and Doug Savant.
MembershipFirst came to power in 2005 and currently dominates the Hollywood board, holding the majority of seats as well as backing current president Alan Rosenberg. The group is the controlling voice in the SAG contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers, which is currently at a stand still.
Unite for Strength blames MembershipFirst for its hardline approach to the negotiations as well as its anti-aftra sentiment, which led to the unsuccessful campaign to get members to vote down the sister union's primetime/TV deal with the AMPTP.
In its announcement, MembershipFirst said its goals for the coming year include uniting "all actors under the Screen Actors Guild banner, protect actors wages and working conditions in all areas, fight for residuals in all media platforms, protect the right of every dues paying member to vote on SAG issues and to secure complete jurisdiction in new media."
Unite for Strength's main goal is to merge SAG with AFTRA, something the MembershipFirst faction has bitterly opposed in the last two attempts in 1999 and 2003.
