Hannibal's season two opener looks prepared to deliver on the rich promise of season one. Here's Laura's review...
This review contains spoilers.
2.1 Kaiseki
When I wrote an article last month positing Hannibal as the best network television show in more than a decade, I have to admit to being a little worried. It’s unusual for the first series of any show to be truly great - most are still trying to find their footing. And of the few that are that good, it’s not unusual to find that the quality cannot be maintained (think Twin Peaks). So I’ve largely been holding my breath for the last few months, hoping that Fuller would be able to match in series two the powerful yet subtle storytelling of series one, and not make a liar out of me.
I should not have worried.

Odd List Shiromi Arserio 3 Oct 2013 - 07:00
Shiromi talks us through ten of the least expected sci-fi crossovers in the geek TV world...
Who would win in a fight? The crew of Babylon 5 or the crew of Deep Space Nine? While often reserved for the realm of fan fiction, two established franchises crossing over does happen from time to time. Typically you'll see this when the properties are owned by the same company, like Superman meeting Batman. While other times it's an intentional crossover of two very different properties like Star Trek characters crossing over into the X-Men universe. Yes, you read that right.
This list is devoted to the top franchise crossovers. I've tried to steer clear from shows that obviously exist in the same universe, like Tng characters showing up on DS9, or Buffy appearing on Angel, and instead focus on crossovers from separate franchises. Some of...

Every once in a while, there's a show that just hits you at the right time of your life. Not just a good show, a miraculously appropriate one, like a perfect breakup song. Dead Like Me is one of those shows for me. It premiered ten years ago today, just when I needed it.The show, created by Bryan Fuller, is about a sardonic 18-year-old girl named George (Ellen Muth) who dies when she's hit by a toilet seat falling from the Mir space station. (Fuller left after five episodes; the show eventually ran for two seasons and then came back for a direct-to-dvd movie in 2009. I cannot recommend the movie, sadly.) Instead of moving seamlessly into the afterlife, though, she becomes a grim reaper, responsible for collecting people's souls moments before they die. She works alongside several other reapers — a dreamy actress, a brassy cop, a trouble-making British...

This week Bryan Fuller‘s weekly jaw-drop exercise Hannibal wraps up its first unexpectedly stellar season. But of course you wouldn’t know that, because you’re too chicken to actually watch it, right? It’s okay – you can admit it. We’re among friends here. You know – the kinds of friends who would love to have you for dinner.
Okay, okay – so maybe you’re not scared, and you just don’t have the appetite for this brand of bloody buffet. But Hannibal transcends standard hack-and-slash genre television in a number of ways – which is probably why it’s already been renewed for a second season of ghastly, envelope-pushing intrigue.
Here’s a quick rundown of reasons you really should be watching.
1. Carnage, psychosis and existential despair have never looked so good

Hannibal Season 1, Episode 12 “Relevés”
Directed by Michael Rymer
Written by Chris Brancato and Bryan Fuller
Airs Thursdays at 10pm Et on NBC
The penultimate episode of Hannibal’s first season offers up a much more low-key hour of television, but it sets up what is promising to be a hell of a finalé. Hannibal is sure to deliver its finest course next week with tensions escalating to a fever pitch. Lives and reputations are on the line and Will (Hugh Dancy) is slowly putting the pieces to the puzzle together. The death of Georgia Madchen (Ellen Muth) leads Will to realize the truth about the copycat killer, while Jack (Laurence Fishburne) begins to have suspicions, and Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) reveals his true self to poor Abigail Hobbs (Kacey Rohl). For a series that is usually dialogue-heavy, Hannibal does an excellent job in ratcheting up the tension.

Will Hannibal‘s Will Graham eventually find love, or is he destined to go stag forever?
While the question is moot in the short run – at the moment, the guy’s a little busy recovering from brain-cooking encephalitis and being manipulated by a serial killer – it’s certainly something star Hugh Dancy is considering as his gory NBC drama reaches the end of its freshman season.
Can Dancy’s tormented profiler ever be a good, healthy match for Caroline Dhavernas‘ Alana? Here, the British actor gives TVLine his thoughts on the more-than-friendly pair and hints at what Dr. Lecter’s...

Now that the pressure of waiting to see if NBC would renew "Hannibal" is over, we can relax and really enjoy the final two episodes of the season, and to help get you ready for next week, we have an image gallery and preview of Episode 1.12, "Relevés."
We had to do a bit of digging to find a cooking tie-in with the definition of "relevés," but since the literal meaning involves "raising" something, the consensus is that it refers to "enhancing" a dish, such as adding spices to a sauce to enhance the flavor. If you can come up with something better, feel free to comment below!

It will be a Hannibal event when Ellen Muth comes to town. The upcoming episode of the stylish, killer, late night NBC series is titled “Relevés” and is happening on June 13 with special guest star Ellen Muth. Muth was the star of Bryan Fuller’s Showtime dramedy Dead Like Me, and her Hannibal character is a tribute to her previous one. That’s right, she’s still a dead girl. We have pictures!
This may be the most intriguing development since Hannibal kicked off its freshman season this April, introducing audiences to the newest incarnation of Hannibal Lecter, as slickly played by Mads Mikkelsen and the brilliant, but tormented investigator Will Graham cast by Hugh Dancy.
So, if you’re a real Hannibal fan, already know a thing or two about Ellen Muth’s character, Georgia Madchen. She cropped up in the May 30th edition, “Buffet Froid”. And she’s not actually dead.

First the good news: Hannibal has been renewed for a second season. “Fannibals” were atwitter last evening as NBC made the announcement shortly before the broadcast, adding to the already heightened anticipation of what promised to be Season 1’s most unnerving episode yet.
NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke says of developer Bryan Fuller:
“We’re so proud of Bryan’s vision for a show that is richly textured, psychologically complex, and very compelling. There are many great stories still to be told.”
We can’t wait!
Now for the bad news: our man Will is in some serious trouble. Not that he wasn’t walking a tightrope already, but now he has Hannibal Lecter in his head – almost literally.
This week’s case begins in the deep woods of Greenwood, Delaware, as one Beth LeBeau arrives home late and prepares for bed. In a sequence more resembling a horror movie than a psychological thriller,...

The cast of Hannibalhopes you don't ahve dinner plans and are open to new experiences.
News
NBC finally made it official that Jimmy Fallon will become host of The Tonight Show in 2014, settling weeks of rumor saying this was about to happen. Now there's the question of the new Late Night host.
The Walking Dead has promoted three cast members to regulars — Chad L. Coleman, Sonequa Martin-Green and Emmily Kinney (that's Tyreese, Sasha and Beth)
Syfy has ordered a new competition series, The Hollywood Reporter reports. Exit is based on a Japanese show and follows four teams trying to make it out of a series of four rooms, facing a variety of puzzles.
I may love watching Mad Men but covering it in the listings is a pain thanks to generic episode teasers like (I kid you not) "Don launches a new campaign," "Peggy ponders taking a trip" or "Pete encounters an interesting stranger.

This Thursday at 10/9c, NBC debuts Hannibal, executive producer Bryan Fuller‘s dark, introspective take on the budding partnership between the infamous cannibal (played by Mads Mikkelsen) and FBI profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy).
And it all began with one sentence. “There’s a line in [the novel] Red Dragon where Hannibal says to Will Graham — paraphrasing here – ‘You caught me essentially because you’re crazy, too,’” Fuller recounted in a recent conference call. “And I just thought, ‘Oh, there is a great untold bromance that I would love to see, as an audience member.’”

Last week at Del Frisco’s Steak House in New York, admittedly a much more intimate setting than usual, Dread Central had the opportunity to sit and dine with the latest and possibly greatest incarnation of iconic psychopath Hannibal Lecter to date, now in the form of Danish actor Mads Mikkelson (Casino Royale).
In between bites of juicy, sautéed sirloin, Mikkelson regaled us with tales of head cheese and pig intestine, so be warned if you’re snacking on something while reading.
DC: How long did it take you to perfect your style of eating on the show?
Mm: To be honest, it comes from the character. But after a while, I take notice that my own way... if I forget myself in character, I tend to go like this a lot (wraps both fists around his knife and fork). But then I look in the mirror and see the three-piece suit,...
