Chicago – Arguably, the last great movie star was Burt Reynolds. His everyman attraction, his accessibility and of course his box office made Reynolds a compelling force during his peak in the 1970s. The CW Network will show the doc “I Am Burt Reynolds” on December 30th, 2023, directed by Adrian Buitenhuis.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
With a career in Hollywood dating back to the last days of the studio system, 1950s/60s TV westerns, and hanging with the Rat Pack, Burt Reynolds epitomized Hollywood superstardom while never ceasing to be a Florida “good ole boy.” From his beginnings in TV and low budget films, through to his breakout roles in “Deliverance,” and “The Longest Yard, onto the smash hit “Smokey and the Bandit” and box office dominance, “I Am Burt Reynolds” remembers an era and the man who defined it.

Exclusive: Malcolm McDowell is saddling up with James Paxton, Bernadette Peters and Laura Marano for Adam Rifkin’s Western Last Train to Fortune.
Last Train to Fortune also reteams McDowell with his former wife, Oscar winner Mary Steenburgen, the duo previously starring together in the 1979 sci-fi drama Time After Time and the 1983 Martin Ritt drama Cross Creek.
In the pic, McDowell plays Cecil Peachtree, a stuffed-shirt schoolmaster who misses the last train to Fortune and meets an outlaw named Dooley (Paxton), at which point they strike a deal: The gunslinger will ride the book-loving Cecil to Fortune in exchange for his teacher’s stipend awaiting him. Along the way there are gunfights, jailbreaks and saloon gals, and our mismatched heroes form an unlikely bond. The pic, which is produced by Michael Gerstein, Paxton, Matt Williams, Rifkin and Brad Wyman (the Oscar-winning Charlize Theron drama Monster) is said to be in the spirit of True Grit,...

Nicolas Cage is famous for being weird. There are endless video compilations of the bizarre acting choices he has made throughout his extremely prolific career, but an obscure direct-to-video movie from decades ago may hold his strangest appearance ever. Cage is only in a minute-long cameo in the 1989 teen sex comedy "Never on Tuesday," but his prosthetic nose and falsetto voice make it quite the memorable one. That's because for the glorious short time he was on camera, Cage was given free rein to do whatever he pleased.
"Never on Tuesday" marks the directorial debut of Adam Rifkin, who started off in public access television and went on to have an expansive career in making mostly low-budget independent films like the infamous black comedy "The Dark Backward" and the Burt Reynolds swan song "The Last Movie Star." The film follows the pursuits of two dudes trying to win the romance...

Nicolas Cage’s favorite cult film role is one he did for free.
The Oscar winner revealed during a Reddit Ama with “Renfield” co-star Nicholas Hoult that, among his best underseen roles, his favorite remains a small cameo in 1989’s “Never on Tuesday.”
Cage was asked by a fan what his “favorite lesser-known performance out of your filmography” is, to which Cage responded, “There was a little cameo that I did that lasted all of about one minute in a movie called ‘Never on Tuesday.’ I don’t recommend the entire film. But, it was a performance I did.”
The indie movie was written and directed by Adam Rifkin and starred Andrew Lauer, Pete Berg, and Claudia Christian as a trio with car trouble. The film was direct-to-video and produced by Cassian Elwes.
The “Peggy Sue Got Married” star added, “I didn’t get paid but the agreement was with...

In the finale of the 2012 television series The River, a character says what everyone else is thinking: “It’s never gonna let us go.” This foreboding last line is, of course, in reference to the show’s sinuous and uncanny namesake. From there the audience is left to wonder what happened to the crew of the Magus as they drifted toward imminent danger.
This wasn’t the first time a TV show visited the Amazon; a short-lived 1999 drama created by author Peter Benchley beat Oren Peli and Michael R. Perry’s series to the punch. However, The River was a mix of adventure and horror. In place of a plane crashing and the survivors struggling to survive their dilemma are characters who deliberately enter the unknown. After a famous explorer named Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood) goes missing somewhere off the Amazon River, while searching for “real magic,” his wife and...

Its Everytown, USA is filled with characters concerned more with might and supremacy than community; Manifest Destiny materializes in neighbors' lopped-off tree limbs that block satellite reception. Eventually released in the summer of 2001, the remake of "Planet of the Apes" went through decades of development before director Tim Burton was finally hired. According to the fascinating book "Tales From Development Hell" by David Hughes, 20th Century Fox was set to make an alternative sequel in 1988 titled "Return to the Planet of the Apes" with a screenplay from Adam Rifkin ("The Dark Backward"). Just before pre-production, new studio executives at Fox reportedly butted heads with Rifkin and the project was put on ice. Peter Jackson and Oliver Stone were even considered at one point, and even Arnold Schwarzenegger was attached in the mid-'90s.
Tim Burton was finally hired to direct at the start of the new millennium, attracting some of the biggest stars and character actors in the business, including Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, Paul Giamatti, Mark Wahlberg, Michael Clarke Duncan, and music legend Kris Kristofferson.

Francesca “Kitten” Natividad, the go-go dancer who became a cult pop culture figure when she was cast by sexploitation film director Russ Meyer in “Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens,” died Saturday of kidney failure after suffering from cancer at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, according to her friend Siouxzan Perry. She was 74.
“She adored her friends, cats, family and fans,” her sister Eva wrote in a statement on Facebook posted by Perry.
Born in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, Natividad moved to Texas as a child, where she became class president of her high school in El Paso. After moving to California, she became a cook and maid for actress Stella Stevens before becoming a go-go dancer and adopting the name “Kitten.” She met “Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!” director Meyer through a dancer friend, and he hired her to narrate his 1976 sex comedy “Up.” She had already had breast implant surgery...
