Jeannie Epper, the peerless, fearless stunt performer who doubled for Lynda Carter on Wonder Woman and swung on a vine across a 350-foot gorge and propelled down an epic mudslide as Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone, has died. She was 83.
Epper died Sunday night of natural causes at her home in Simi Valley, her family told The Hollywood Reporter.
Just one member of a dynasty of stunt performers that Steven Spielberg dubbed the “Flying Wallendas of Film” — starting with her father, John Epper, there have been four generations of Eppers in show business since the 1930s — she worked on 150-plus films and TV shows during an astounding 70-year career.

"The Love Boat" holds a fascinating place in pop culture history. While most of the shows with reruns playing in heavy rotation today were in some way groundbreaking upon their initial release, "The Love Boat" is a novelty the likes of which modern TV rarely – if ever – tries to emulate. An anthology-like rom-com set aboard a cruise ship, "The Love Boat" featured a revolving door of guest stars and little connective tissue to speak of aside from the cast playing the crew aboard the ship.
The deeply '70s series earned high ratings for much of its run, yet was considered pretty silly even at the time of its release. John J. O'Connor called it a "dreadful porridge of a conception" in The New York Times, while the Orlando Sentinel's Noel Holston said it needed "sharper writing, better casting, more original situations, an end to the indefatigable laugh track or,...

For one full decade of 1977 to 1987, ABC could count on its comedy/drama series “The Love Boat” to bring in millions of audience members on Saturday nights. The show would have multiple story arcs (often three for a one-hour episode) with five to 10 celebrity guest stars each time. Some arcs were playing out for laughs, others for romance and the remainder could take on tough issues. The show airs daily on the Decades network and on Sunday afternoons for Me-tv. Beyoncé sent her fans a shocker on Super Bowl Sunday, using a Verizon ad to announce “Renaissance Act II” and drop two brand-new country songs. But members of the BeyHive with a penchant for half-hour comedies got a two-for-one deal, as the pop star appeared in the commercial opposite an unexpected partner: “Veep” and “Arrested Development” star Tony Hale.
Hale has spent years of his career playing awkward, offbeat beta males overshadowed by powerful women: “It’s a forte of mine,” he says, reflecting on what his newest collaborator may have in common with Lucille Bluth and Selina Meyer. He felt at home at Yoncé’s side, though, he isn’t totally sure how much she knew about him in return. “We really didn’t have much time to chat,” he laughs. “I didn’t ask her, ‘Have you seen my work?'”

The American Broadcasting Company aired its iconic series ABC Movie of the Week from 1969 to 1975. In the intro of Michael Karol’s book The ABC Movie of the Week Companion: A Loving Tribute to the Classic Series, the author called the anthology show “influential” for baby-boomers. Karol then went on to quote a press release from Barry Diller; ABC’s vice president at the time said the network was trying to “broaden the base of familiar television anthologies and movies-for-television” and how a 90-minute format would “do justice to that special echelon of story ideas, which don’t quite work in the standard one-and two-hour television program forms.” The concept also entailed working with production companies outside of their own (ABC-Circle Films), including frequent collaborator Spelling-Goldberg. And as many fans of vintage American tele-cinema will agree, one of Spelling-Goldberg’s, not to mention ABC’s most memorable TV-movies from that...

Adam Reed was searching for inspiration. He’d just sold his stake in the production company he co-founded, 70/30 Productions — responsible for his animated series Sealab 2021 and Frisky Dingo — and fled to Europe, to embark on what he calls a “pilgrimage.” One day during his expedition, he was idling at a café in Salamanca, Spain, and observed a group of stunning women. He wondered who could possibly have the courage to approach them. And then, all of a sudden, a suave fellow sat down at the table, ordered a...

If the thought of life without the Bluths makes you as blue as Tobias’ body paint, take heart: Arrested Development is still streaming on Netflix. The comedy series was scheduled to leave the streaming platform earlier this year, but a last-minute licensing deal means it’s still yours for the bingeing on its 20th anniversary this November 2. Arrested Development ran for three seasons on Fox between 2003 and 2006, telling the story of the dysfunctional Bluth family: Lucille (Jessica Walter) and George Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor); their adult children, Gob (Will Arnett), Michael (Jason Bateman), Lindsay (Portia de Rossi), and Buster (Tony Hale); their son-in-law, Tobias (David Cross); and their grandchildren, George Michael (Michael Cera) and Maeby (Alia Shawkat). The show ran for two seasons on Netflix between 2013 and 2019 — to diminishing returns. All the episodes of the revival are in the bottom 30 percent of IMDb’s fan ranking. On the other end of the ranking,...

After 14 seasons of bawdy spy hi-jinks, Archer is calling it quits — but the Fxx comedy managed to deliver one final twist on the way out.
If you haven’t watched in a while, here’s a quick update: Lana is running the spy agency now after the departure of Malory (voiced by the late Jessica Walter), and the agency has a sassy new British spy, Zara Khan, played by Natalie Dew. Other than that, it’s pretty much business as usual in Thursday’s series finale, with Archer and his pals springing into action when a fleet of killer drones start murdering ex-iia employees.

I first heard about FX’s “Archer” in the ready room of Vaq-135, a navy squadron who were serving an interminable deployment aboard an aircraft carrier somewhere near Midway Island. (This sounds very much like a humblebrag that Sterling Archer would obnoxiously drop into conversation). It was 2010, and the pilots had lost whatever idealism they’d once had during an endless deployment that had them flying 12-hour missions from the Persian Gulf to Afghanistan. I started hearing the officers stage-whisper “danger zone” whenever one of them got called in to see the commanding officer over some minor fuck-up or summoned to the flight deck in the pitch black of an ocean night.
Now, famously, “Danger Zone” is a Kenny Loggins song that plays a significant role in the homoerotic original recipe “Top Gun,” the urtext of naval aviators. But the way the pilots were saying it suggested they were taking the piss.

Review: Fourteen years ago, Archer debuted on FX and introduced the world to the best spy comedy on television. Led by H. Jon Benjamin’s pitch-perfect vocal performance, Archer skewered everything from James Bond to Mad Men and more over its decade and a half on the air. Adam Reed’s series has been consistently hilarious, with multiple forays into genres like noir, science fiction, and an homage to Miami Vice. Now, the final season of Archer is here, and it is thankfully just as great as the thirteen that came before it. Michael Cera is one of those delightfully odd actors whose fame certainly wasn’t guaranteed, so it may not come as a surprise that he bristled at the success he experienced after 2007 hits Superbad and Juno. In fact, he told The Guardian that he considered quitting acting completely after being thrust into the public eye.
Despite already starring alongside greats like Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Jessica Walter in Arrested Development, Cera became more of a leading man after scoring back-to-back roles in the coming-of-age buddy comedy Superbad and the teenage pregnancy comedy-drama Juno. Discussing the “overwhelming” time, Cera recalled, “I didn’t know how to handle walking down the street. Fame makes you very uncomfortable in your own skin, and makes you paranoid and weird. Lance Reddick’s unexpected death in March 2023 halted a thriving acting career that consisted of many memorable performances, including several voice-over gigs on TV series like “Castlevania,” “Duck Tales” and “Rick and Morty.” In addition to half a dozen mid-production projects, his legacy could include a posthumous Emmy victory in honor of his vocal work on the Amazon Prime Video animated series “The Legend of Vox Machina.” After Chadwick Boseman, who won the 2022 Best Character Voice-Over prize for “What If…?” two years after his death, Reddick would be the second posthumous recipient of any voice acting Emmy.
Reddick joined the recurring cast of “The Legend of Vox Machina” in its second season, which concluded less than a month before he died. His character, Thordak, is the leader of a group of dragons known as the Chroma Conclave, whose destructive plans are encumbered by the heroic, interspecific members of Vox Machina.

FX’s long-running animated series “Archer” is finally coming to an end. The network announced on Monday that Season 14 of the show, which premieres on August 30 on Fxx and streams the next day on Hulu, will be its last.
No additional information about the show’s conclusion was given.
Created by Adam Reed, “Archer” premiered in 2009 as a riff on the James Bond archetype with H. Jon Benjamin’s suave but dumb Sterling Archer running various missions as part of his mother’s wildly dysfunctional intelligence agency.
After the first four seasons, the show started reinventing itself with themed seasons starting with Season 5’s “Archer Vice,” complete with 1980s aesthetics. Other seasons saw the crew on the run, in a full-on noir and in outer space. There was seemingly no end to where “Archer” could go.

This article contains spoilers for season 4, episode 6 of "Succession."
There are quite a few similarities between the Fox and Netflix comedy "Arrested Development" and the HBO tragicomedy "Succession," from the composition of the filthy rich and totally incompetent families at the center of each series to the characters' total inability to be kind to anyone. But there's one major link between them that matters most: the camera work. The plot of "Succession" contains pretty serious stuff, involving drug abuse, accidental manslaughter, accusations of sexual assault on a mass scale, child abuse, and more, but the show still manages to be brutally funny. A big part of that comedy comes from just how awkward and emotionally damaged everyone is, and the camera helps bring that discomfort into focus. Moments that could easily be played as dramatic are instead turned on their ear through the use of the handheld, frequently zooming camera...

“How can fandom be toxic?!” Richie Kirsch (Jack Quaid) scowls after his motive explanation and reveal as one-half of the Ghostface team in last year’s Scream. “It’s about love! You don’t fucking understand– these movies are important to people!”
“Toxic fandom” may only feel like a relatively recent term, used in reference to crazed, niche fandoms of movies, franchises, comics, and musicians alike, especially within online forums and social media groups. However, horror has always known, warned, and held up a mirror to those who take their love of these art forms just a tad bit too far, as depicted in the recent Donald Glover and Janine Nabers-created Amazon Prime show, Swarm.

Netflix must have found the money in the banana stand because Arrested Development won’t leave the streaming service after all.
It was reported in February that all five seasons of the acclaimed comedy series would be pulled from Netflix on March 15th due to the end of a licensing deal. That day came and went with Arrested Development remaining on the service. The first three seasons of Arrested Development were produced by 20th Century Fox, with Netflix reviving the series for two more seasons. Vulture reports that a new licensing agreement was worked out between Netflix and Disney’s 20th Television, allowing the streaming service to keep the series. Netflix has decided it’s keeping “Arrested Development” on its platform, reversing a previous announcement that indicated the series would depart in March.
All five seasons of the sitcom starring Jason Bateman were slated to leave the streaming platform on March 15. The Netflix landing page originally confirmed the last day to watch the series as Tuesday, March 14.
But Netflix and 20th Television reached a new licensing deal for the show, keeping it on Netflix. Hulu will also give up streaming rights to the show’s first three seasons later this year, exclusively uniting all of the series under the Netflix roof.
Arrested Development, from 20th Television and Imagine Television, was one of Netflix’s first original comedies. The series, which aired for three seasons on Fox, was brought back to life on Netflix in 2013 with a fourth season and a fifth season that was split into two parts in 2018 and 2019.

Netflix will be the exclusive streaming home to all five seasons of Arrested Development in the U.S. later this year, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on Friday.
Though the final two seasons of the sitcom were created as a co-production between Netflix, 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Entertainment, Netflix was previously expected to lose all five seasons of Arrested Development on March 15 due to the end of a licensing deal, but the show was ultimately never removed.
The renegotiated deal, first reported by Vulture, will result in all five seasons remaining on Netflix, while the first three seasons will leave Hulu, a spokesperson for the Disney-operated streamer told THR. It’s not immediately clear what date the show will exit Hulu. According to Vulture, Disney — whose 20th Television controlled the rights — will have the ability to sell the linear TV rights to its own cable networks or an outside company.

Netflix is going back to the banana stand.
“Arrested Development” is actually staying on Netflix, the streamer announced on Friday. Back in February, Netflix said that all seasons of the show would leave on March 15. But, surprise! “Arrested Development” won’t be leaving after all.
Netflix revealed the news on Twitter, writing: “The Bluths aren’t going anywhere! ‘Arrested Development is staying on Netflix!'”

Sitcom favorite “Arrested Development” isn’t leaving Netflix after all, thanks to a new deal with Disney.
The exit of the series, which began on Fox and was continued at Netflix, was reported last month, with both editions of the Bluth family saga set to be removed entirely on March 15. Eagle-eyed fans noticed that the series, which starred Jason Bateman, Jessica Walter, Michael Cera, Tony Hale and Jeffrey Tambor, was still available.
Netflix will now become the exclusive subscription streaming home of the Mitchell Hurwitz-created series, which means that Hulu will have to give up rights to the sitcom’s first three seasons, according to Vulture.

With the Community movie coming to Peacock it’s a good time to revisit the six seasons before the movie. When you graduate from the series like the study group graduated Greendale, you may want more. Here are some other shows that offer their own kind of surreal, self-referential live-action comedy if you liked Community.

The medical comedy Scrubs predates Community on NBC. Narrated by new resident J.D. (Zach Braff), Scrubs could break the fourth wall at any time within J.D.’s head. These included fantasy sequences, which isn’t how Community broke the fourth wall, but allowed Scrubs to get surreal.
Scrubs did have its own movie within Sacred Heart Hospital though. J.D. was writing a horror script called Dr.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Clint Eastwood's 65-year film career has been his willingness to play not just ornery cusses, but, in many cases, a downright bastard. From The Man with No Name in Sergio Leone's "Dollars Trilogy" to nonagenarian drug smuggler Earl Stone in "The Mule," Eastwood has always sought out messes of manhood: lousy husbands, absent fathers, and straight-up killers. If retired rodeo star Mike Milo winds up being Eastwood's acting swan song, he might stand as one of the kindest characters in Eastwood's oeuvre.
What kind of self-respecting woman would take up these heels? That's what the female characters in Eastwoods' films are often wondering. The answer, of course, is that Clint's laconic nature masks a boyish playfulness that can be irresistible (especially when he's using an orangutan as his wingman). He's a tall drink of water who plays it gruff until he flashes that devilish grin,...

Every season of Arrested Development is leaving Netflix, including the streamer’s original fourth and fifth seasons. As of Monday, February 13, there is an alert on Arrested Development‘s Netflix landing page saying its “last day to watch” is March 14, making March 15 its expected departure date. But according to Variety, that date could be subject to change. Arrested Development initially premiered in November 2003 on Fox and ran for three seasons before getting the cancellation ax. Netflix saved the comedy — starring Jason Bateman, David Cross, Will Arnett, the late Jessica Walter, and more — when it was in its early years of original content development. The pickup resulted in two additional seasons, but there was a five-year gap between the premieres of Seasons 4 and 5. Season 4 debuted in 2013 on Netflix. The fifth and final season was split into two parts premiering in 2018 and 2019. The series in its entirety has remained on Netflix ever since.

All episodes of “Arrested Development” are set to be removed from Netflix on March 15 — including Seasons 4 and 5, which Netflix produced itself.
After initially running on Fox for three seasons, “Arrested Development” was canceled in 2006. Comedy fans would say Netflix is making a huge mistake.
The streaming service is removing all five seasons of the Emmy-winning comedy series “Arrested Development” on March 14, as reported by What’s on Netflix. It will be one of the most significant removals of a Netflix Original series to date.
“Arrested Development,” a single-camera comedy from creator Mitchell Hurwitz, ran for three well-regarded but low-rated seasons on Fox between 2003 and 2006. After its cancellation, its reputation as a cult classic grew, thanks in no small part to its availability on Netflix’s then-nascent streaming platform. It became so successful on Netflix that the streaming service commissioned a fourth season, which premiered in May 2013. A “remix” of Season 4 hit Netflix in 2018, followed by a fifth and final season released in two halves in 2018 and 2019. The revival seasons did not reach the critical heights of the original run, and the fifth season was...

Clint Eastwood wasn't exactly Clint Eastwood when he was prepping for his directorial debut, "Play Misty for Me," in 1971.
He was primarily viewed as a Western actor who'd parlayed his television success on CBS' "Rawhide" to attain a cultish, pulpy stardom via Sergio Leone's shot-in-Spain "Dollars Trilogy." The films were commercial hits in the United States but despised by most prominent film critics. They found them silly and excessively violent, and thought Eastwood's taciturn demeanor was less an affectation than flat-out lousy acting.
Nevertheless, Eastwood kept knocking out hits, which pleased Universal Pictures enough that they were more than happy to greenlight his first filmmaking effort. Screenwriters Jo Heims and Dean Riesner had crafted a tightly structured thriller about a ladies' man disc jockey who finds himself stalked by a one-night-stand. It was a curious choice for Eastwood in that his character is vulnerable and somewhat unlikeable. He's certainly not the steely,...

Clint Eastwood's impulse for directing goes back to his early days working on the 1959 TV series "Rawhide." As he described in an interview with Patrick McGilligam printed in the 1999 book "Clint Eastwood: Interviews," edited by Robert E. Kapsis and Kathie Coblentz, he stated that working among cattle while on horseback -- "Rawhide" is about cattle ranchers who fend off bad guys in the Old West -- gave him ideas as to how shots could look better. The story goes that he wanted to take a camera onto a horse with him and film Pov shots in the middle of the bovine action. He was denied on "Rawhide," and was not permitted to direct any episodes. It seems that, in the late '50s and early '60s, actors directing their own TV shows had yet to prove lucrative for CBS.

When you think of Clint Eastwood, your first, second, or even fifth thoughts wouldn't associate him with psychological thrillers. This is a man who makes Westerns, crime films, and character dramas about people who the system tries to squash. However, he plunged directly into the psychological thriller for his directorial debut "Play Misty for Me" over half a century ago. This is a classic tale of an obsessive, spurned ex-lover that we see time and time again in cinema, most famously in Adrian Lyne's 1987 blockbuster "Fatal Attraction." In this film, Jessica Walter plays the knife-wielding woman, and Eastwood is the radio DJ with whom she develops a parasocial (and then physical) relationship.
The reason the film is called "Play Misty for Me," aside from being a wonderfully mysterious title, is that the jazz standard "Misty" by Erroll Garner is at the heart of the film. Walter's character frequently calls...

Clint Eastwood had himself quite the contradictory 1971. He starred as a wounded soldier victimized by a seminary headmistress and her young charges in the Civil War gothic "The Beguiled," directed himself as a DJ victimized by an obsessed ex-lover in "Play Misty for Me," and victimized perps and suspects with quippy aplomb as a Miranda-rights-flouting cop in "Dirty Harry." It's the most pivotal year in the star's career, the moment he proved he was willing to tweak his macho image by playing rakish, manipulative men who have their casual cruelty revisited on them tenfold. There's a guilty conscience that roils just beneath the surface of Eastwood's best work, which is probably why he remains a particular favorite of male critics. We're drawn to his characters' above-it-all curtness but empathize, quite uncomfortably, with their emotional transgressions.
These qualities needn't be a referendum on Eastwood the man, and, if you've ever read an interview with the star,...

Adam Reed's animated sitcom, "Archer," has undergone massive tonal shifts and genre changes over the course of its 13-season run. Reed initially conceived "Archer" as a genre parody of spy thrillers that featured overt satire and quick-witted humor. The first few seasons of the show were glorious, following the shenanigans of Sterling Archer (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin) and his dysfunctional, mostly incompetent colleagues who are part of an intelligence agency. Season 10 was almost the end of "Archer" when the show creators changed its structural formula — while some of it worked, and most of it missed the mark, a shift to self-contained anthologies marked an interesting turn for the animated dramedy.
"Archer" revolves around the titular protagonist, who is supposed to parody a stereotypical James Bond-like figure: Sterling is exceptionally self-centered, a raging alcoholic, emotionally unavailable, and not very good at his job. Benjamin makes brilliant work of highlighting...

When "Arrested Development" first aired, it epitomized underrated television. Unceremoniously ending with its truncated, 13-episode third season, the show never got the contemporaneous credit it deserved. While critics at the time were positively beaming with praise — with The New York Times even remarking the premiere episodes proved "sharply satirical" — it lasted a while before the powers that be relegated "Arrested Development" to the realm of forgotten cult classics. That is, of course, until Netflix picked up the series in 2011, premiering a fourth season in 2013, a decade after the first.
In the time since, "Arrested Development" achieved almost mythic status, ranking 37 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 best television comedy series ever. That's right. The little sitcom that could is sandwiched between "Hill Street Blues" and "I Love Lucy," as good an indication as any that creator Mitchell Hurwitz achieved something special here. While the first three seasons are remarkably accomplished,...

Netflix launched its ad tier Thursday, and several popular series are missing from the streamer’s library due to licensing restrictions, including originals House of Cards and Arrested Development.
While the titles still appear in the Discover tab and the search function, a small lock icon appears in the top right corner to indicate that subscribers of the Basic with Ads plan do not have access.
As expected, several other series are also not available with the ad tier, including Peaky Blinders, New Girl, The Magicians, The Last Kingdom, The Sinner, Good Girls, Queen of the South, The Good Place, and Friday Night Lights as well as a number of movies from various studios.
House of Cards was Netflix’s first big statement of intent in the originals space. From David Fincher and Beau Willimon, the series, which starred Kevin Spacey as Frank Underwood, landed a two-season order and launched...

"Arrested Development" is one of this century's most infamous television cancellations. It lives in the canon of "gone too soon" television history alongside the likes of "Freaks and Geeks" and "Firefly." Well, at least it did for a while. Netflix notably revived the series, debuting a new season in 2013. A fifth and final season was produced and aired in 2018, solidifying the enduring struggle with getting new episodes of the Bluth family and their incredulous hijinks.
Jason Bateman portrays Michael Bluth, the middle son in a family of ridiculous, wealthy ne'er-do-wells. His father, George Bluth Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor), faces imprisonment due to committing several financial crimes. While Michael tries to extricate himself from his family repeatedly, they routinely draw him back into the fold. Modern television series like "Schitt's Creek" play with the earnest pathos of an uber-wealthy family and their fall from grace. However, "Arrested Development" distinguished itself first with...

It takes a lot of hard work and luck to even get the pilot of a television show made. Then, only a fraction of those shows actually get ordered for a season. Those shows then consider themselves lucky if they earn a second season. Anything over that, is just gravy. But for a select group of shows, being renewed for more seasons becomes less of an "if" and more of a "when." For Fxx's "Archer," the ball definitely seems to be in their court.
"Archer" is currently in the midst of its 13th season, making it one of the longest-running shows on television today. That's no small feat. Even with plenty of writing staff turnover, including the exit of showrunner Adam Reed, the show has chugged along for more than a decade without sacrificing quality. The zany spy comedy has adeptly hopped from genre to genre over its long run...
