Disney+ has dropped the trailer for Season 2 of The Santa Clauses, which finds the Calvin family back at the North Pole and Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) facing some stiff competition from Eric Stonestreet’s Magnus Anta (aka The Mad Santa).

In Season 2, Scott continues his role as Santa Claus after his retirement plans were thwarted when he failed to fine a worthy successor in Season 1. Even though we're not done with Halloween, Disney isn't wasting anytime digging back into the world of Santa Claus with a second season of the Disney+ original series "The Santa Clauses." Tim Allen is back as jolly old Saint Nick, and now he's focusing on turning all the happenings at the North Pole into a family business. Elizabeth Mitchell is still as supportive as ever as Mrs. Claus, Cal Calvin Claus (Austin Kane) is preparing to eventually become Santa Claus at some point with a little Santa training program, and Sandra Calvin Claus is helping out in the background by taking care of the reindeer and whatnot.
Of course, getting the North Pole in shape for Christmas isn't their biggest concern; there's trouble brewing in the form of another Santa Claus. Eric Stonestreet ("Modern Family") is playing Magnus Antas or The Mad Santa. Apparently, he thinks Scott Calvin's version...

After seeing the sci-fi sensation Gravity, the film's special effects are so seamless and realistic, you're not sure where practical filmmaking ends and the world of visual effects and computer generated imagery begins. If you saw the film in 3D, the film is that much more captivating, and knowing that every single shot of the film is a visual effects shots makes the 3D elements of the film all the more impressive and taxing on the filmmakers. Now a featurette (that's really more of a technical sales pitch) shows how the 3D conversion process and visual effects can work together easily by way of View-d. It's very sophisticated, but cool to see. Here's the Gravity 3D VFX featurette from VFX Breakdowns on Vimeo (via SlashFilm): As the explanation on the video indicates, "In this Artist Breakdown we analyze a scene from Gravity starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. I'm not a fan of 3D. With pretty much every 3D film I've ever seen I think I can honestly say it would have been just as good in 2D barring a couple exceptions such as Hubble 3D. This isn't to say there aren't a few moments here and there in films where the 3D visuals may "wow" me, but for the most part I'm there for the story and the here-and-there wows are nice when they arrive, but not essential to the experience in most cases. That, of course, doesn't mean some of the behind-the-scenes processes aren't interesting, such as the continual attempts to master post-conversion 3D and in the video below Prime Focus World's Richard Baker (Creative Director, View-d) and Matthew Bristowe (Svp, Production) detail the process of converting a scene from Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity. Or, as the description says, take us "on a step by...

3D is far from defunct, judging by the critical and commercial reception of Gravity so far. In three-and-a-half weeks it has grossed over $360 million worldwide, and with a domestic haul nearing $200 million, it’s now one the top 10 highest-grossing movies of the year.
A lot of the praise for Alfonso Cuarón’s latest is down to the spectacular conversion job done by Prime Focus London on. James Cameron has called it the “best 3D conversion ever”. When 3D is considered as part of the storytelling process, and not just an afterthought to charge audiences extra, it can be as important a decision in the production of the film as casting or script. And ‘Gravity’ is a game-changer on every level.
It was without doubt the most detailed and sophisticated shoot that Prime Focus World has completed to date, including what must be the longest converted shot ever – 15,531 frames, which is over 10 minutes and 47 seconds.

Chicago – NBC & Fox released their schedules already this week and there are a few interesting highlights, but ABC has released easily the most aggressive and ambitious new slate of programs, which will feature at least one new program five nights a week. Overall, they’re debuting seven new programs in the Fall alone, clearly trying to cement an exciting schedule before the mid-season instead of holding back programs for 2012.

As far as returning series go, “Cougar Town” will not return until 2012, allowing the promising “Happy Endings” to move into a great spot, post-“Modern Family.” (Thank you ABC. Thank you.) “Happy Endings” and “Extreme Makover: Home Edition” (which will be on Fridays now) are the only returning shows moving as ABC had enough to worry about with new shows and are keeping “Dancing With the Stars,” “Castle,” “Body of Proof,” “The Middle,” “Modern Family,...

As the Society noms continue to roll in, the latest comes from the Visual Effects Society as they announce their nominees for the 7th Annual Ves Awards, a ceremony recognizing outstanding visual effects in over a dozen categories of film, animation, television, commercials and video games. Of course all I really care about are the film noms, but you can check out the full list of nominees by downloading the Pdf press release right here. Iron Man led the way with five nominations and is competing with The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Cloverfield in the Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects Driven Motion Picture category, the category probably deemed the highest profile of the bunch and it went to Transformers last year only to see The Golden Compass pull out a surprise win at the Oscars.

After years of mugging for the camera, Tim Allen finally is sitting in the feature director's chair.
Allen will direct, as well as star in, an adult comedy titled Crazy on the Outside. Ray Liotta, Carrie-Anne Moss, Julie Bowen and Kelsey Grammer are in negotiations to also star.
The indie feature, written by Judd Pilot and John Peaslee, follows a ex-con who finds his life outside of prison to be much crazier, especially once he enters his sister's world.
Brian Reilly, Brett Gregory, Richard Baker and Anastasia Stanecki are producing the indie, which is being financed privately.
Justin Moritt, the unit production manager on such films as I Am Legend and Hitch, is exec producing.
Allen directed one episode of his 1990s sitcom Home Improvement, but Crazy will be his feature helming debut.
He next will be seen in Redbelt, written and directed by David Mamet, which opens April 25. He also stars in the indie ensemble comedy The Six Wives of Henry Lefay and will reprise his voice role as Buzz Lightyear for Toy Story 3.
Allen is repped by WMA and Messina/Baker Entertainment.
