It’s time for another episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, and with this one we’re looking back at the fourth entry in the Final Destination franchise, a film called The Final Destination (watch it Here). Directed by David R. Ellis, who previously directed Final Destination 2, from a script written by Eric Bress (who worked on the script for Final Destination 2), The Final Destination has the following synopsis: While enjoying a day at the track, Nick O’Bannon has a horrific premonition of his friends and him all dying in a freak accident involving many racecars. Mere seconds before the vision comes true, he manages to convince them to leave. Although they cheat death then,...

"Is there something you're not telling me?" "It's under control." Syfy has released a trailer for their original movie titled Atomica, that is supposedly being released into theaters and not just on TV. Atomica is set inside a nuclear power planet in the "near future", when communications go offline and mysteriously weird things start to happen inside. The cast includes Sarah Habel starring, with Tom Sizemore, Dominic Monaghan, Phil Austin, Hahn Cho and Jennifer Spriggs. I like the futuristic sci-fi look and feel of this film, but I am worried it'll probably turn out to be a big mess. The footage is interesting until it becomes confusing and it's hard to make sense of what's going on inside this weird place. Still, it's worth a quick look. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Dagen Merrill's Atomica, direct from Syfy's YouTube: In the near future, when communications go offline...

The latest movie adaptation of a Meyer novel will likely not lead to a movie franchise Directed and adapted by Andrew Niccol, Stephenie Meyer's sci-fi book The Host debuted at no. 6 on the Us / Canada box-office chart this Easter weekend, earning an anemic $10.6 million at 3,202 North American venues, as per actuals found on the web site Box Office Mojo. Many pundits had been predicting The Host to debut in the mid-to-high teens. What that means (and considering the film's budget; see below), the romantic sci-fier featuring Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, and Jake Abel is this year's most recent big box-office disappointment. (Pictured above: Abel as one of the men in Ronan's in The Host) It may seem mean-spirited to compare The Host to either Twilight or The Hunger Games; but then again, both of those movies were also adaptations of popular novels geared to young adults, and featured a...

Early estimates point to a quite underwhelming box-office debut for the latest movie adapation of a Meyer novel: Really, nobody was predicting that The Host, the Andrew Niccol-directed film version of Stephenie Meyer's sci-fi book about parasitical aliens would reach the North American gross of the initial Twilight movie (2008), also based on a bestseller written by Meyer. And certainly no one was expecting that Niccol's film would get even remotely near the success of Gary Ross' sci-fier / adventure drama The Hunger Games, which, like Twilight and The Host, was based on a popular book for young adults, featuring a heroine (Jennifer Lawrence) and two men in her life (Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson). (Pictured above: 2007 Best Supporting Actress nominee Saoirse Ronan in The Host.) In fact, The Host would have boasted a fantastic debut were it to earn as much as half of the $69.63 million (not factoring...

Latest adaptation of a bestselling Meyer novel has received atrocious ratings on the review-aggregator web site Rotten Tomatoes "Dopey, derivative and dull, The Host is a brazen combination of unoriginal science-fiction themes, young-adult pandering and bottom-line calculation," says New York Times film critic Manohla Dargis. And Dargis' opinion is one of the kinder ones that U.S. critics have written about Andrew Niccol's mix of romance, adventure, and science-fiction, starring Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger, Max Irons, and Jake Abel, and co-produced by the author of the novel on which the film is based (Niccol himself is credited for the adapation): Stephenie Meyer, best known as the brain behind the Twilight Saga literary and cinematic franchises. (Pictured above: Ronan, a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nominee back in early 2008, and co-star Abel) Invasion of the Body Snatchers meets The Twilight Saga? In the story, an alien force usurps the...

The year's first White House movie ahead of early estimates, but is it a bona fide box-office hit? Olympus Has Fallen, featuring Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart (neither of whom has been terribly lucky at the domestic box office of late), will be this March 22-24 weekend's no. 2 movie, behind only the 3D animated feature The Croods and easily surpassing early predictions. Antoine Fuqua, probably best known for Ethan Hawke / Denzel Washington's Training Day (which earned Washington a Best Actor Academy Award), directed the R-rated thriller should earn around $28 million on its debut weekend -- it opened with $10.4 million at 3,098 sites this past Friday as per studio estimates found on the web site Box Office Mojo -- thus boasting this year's second highest R-rated debut and providing relatively new distributing company FilmDistrict with its most impressive opening weekend to date. Early predictions by various pundits had the year's "first...

Hollywood declined to cast a Latino to play a Latino role, again.
The National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts called for a boycott of the action film “Olympus Has Fallen” after learning that the character of Vice President Charlie Rodriguez is played by non-Latino actor Phil Austin.
“If you think this is a bad precedent (ala Argo); please repost and ask your friends not to spend their hard earned money on this film,” the organization posted to its Facebook wall Thursday. The organization repeated the call for a boycott Friday, writing "let's skip this piece of crap!"
The organization was alluding to Ben Affleck’s film “Argo,” in which he played the lead character Tony Mendez. Non-Latino Affleck took heat for casting himself as a Hispanic character, though it turns out that real-life Mendez doesn’t really identify as Latino.
This case seems a little different, since Phil Austin will...

Chicago – Antoine Fuqua’s “Olympus Has Fallen” (or “Die Hard in the White House”) is a stupid, exploitative movie that wants to be “Call of Duty: Black Ops” in film form but ends up more like one of its countless, ineffective rip-offs. There are moments of goofy, B-movie fun (certainly more of them than in the much-worse “A Good Day to Die Hard”) but not enough to get over the brutal nonsense that makes up most of this action flick. Extremely violent and insensitive given the attacks on Washington on 9/11, “Olympus Has Fallen” just isn’t as much as fun as the best “Die Hard” rip-offs and so it becomes just another loud, annoying wannabe.

Parks And Recreation's Nick Offerman has landed a role in Diablo Cody's brand new project...
Parks and Recreation features one of the finest comedic casts of any American comedy in recent times, but for me the real star of the show is Nick Offerman’s Ron Swanson. Offerman is given the freedom to show off his incredibly dry comedy stylings in the programme, so with that in mind he seems a good fit for a role in Diabo Cody’s directorial debut rumoured to be titled Lamb Of God.
Offerman will star alongside Julianne Hough, Russell Brand, Octavia Spencer, Holly Hunter and Phil Austin.
Hough will play Lamb, a devoutly religious young woman who renounces her faith following a plane crash that leaves her disfigured. She leaves her home in Washington DC and heads to Vegas to enjoy a life of sin, where she meets and befriends some...
