Bananarama is one of the biggest pop acts of all time!
The British troupe, formed back in 1980, notched a Guinness World Record for the world’s highest number of chart entries by an all-female group: between 1982 and 2009 alone, they had 30 singles reach the Top 50 of the UK Singles Chart.
Glorious- The Ultimate Collection, the group’s upcoming compilation out on March 8, 2024, celebrates the many milestones of Bananarama members Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward‘s career, featuring personally curated career highlights and smashes like “Cruel Summer,” “Venus,” and “Love In The First Degree.”
Ahead of the release of their upcoming release, the duo is dropping two brand new remixes, out today (December 1).

The Reflex supplies a French touch to the band’s 1984 Top 10 hit “Robert De Niro’s Waiting…,” and even sourced the original recording tapes for new elements, including bass and guitars.

Paul McCartney rerecorded The Beatles’ “Let It Be” as a star-studded charity single in 1987. He collaborated with a famous producer on the cover. The producer said the former Beatle was never satisfied with his work on the song.
The Beatles‘ “Let It Be” is one of Paul McCartney’s most famous songs. He rerecorded it with the help of many major artists to help the victims of a ferry disaster. Subsequently, the cover inspired a parody by a famous band.
Kate Bush and Boy George helped Paul McCartney rerecord The Beatles’ ‘Let It Be’
According to Yahoo! News, the Herald of Free Enterprise was a ferry that was supposed to travel from Zeebrugge, Belgium, to Dover, England, on March 6, 1987. No one closed the ferry’s bow doors, which caused water to flood the ship. Within 90 seconds, the Herald of Free Enterprise capsized.
Sadly, 193 people died on the Herald of Free Enterprise.

It doesn’t matter of your idea of a Cruel Summer invokes Taylor Swift or Bananarama, there’s still a hot season’s worth of mystery to unpack in round 2 of Freeform‘s anthology hit. Like the 2021 edition, which bounced between three consecutive summers for its tale of a Texas teen who was abducted and her classmate who could have saved her, this new story also employs multiple timelines. Except here, we’re dropping into a trio of periods within a single calendar year at the end of the last millennium as small-town teen Megan (Sadie Stanley of The Goldbergs) and Isabella Larue, the transfer student spending senior year living with Megan’s blue-collar family, go from strangers to besties to possible murder suspects. Griffin Gluck (Locke & Key) costars as Luke, Megan’s childhood pal who instantly catches Isabelle’s eye. But this is not your usual “girls fighting over a guy” cliché-fest.

Two all-new celebrities in disguise took on the reigning champ, Dandelion, for “Masked Singer in Space” on Wednesday’s “The Masked Singer.” After a performance of “Venus” by Bananarama, Lamp advanced to the Battle Royale where she got her lights cut off by UFO. The disguised celebrity pulled off her mask to reveal actress, director and author Melissa Joan Hart. The clues were obvious to all of the panelists except for Ken Jeong, who incorrectly guessed Oscar nominee Michelle Williams.
“This was something that I wanted to do for my kids,” Melissa told host Nick Cannon during her unmasked interview. “I wanted to overcome something. I have never sang in front of people before. It is terrifying to me! This is like overcoming a fear and, I did it, guys! I didn’t fall. I didn’t vomit.” She then confessed, “The lamp was sort of a giveaway too. If anyone knows ‘Sabrina’ very well,...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched the Season 9, episode 9 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired April 12 on Fox.
It was “Masked Singer in Space Night,” but “The Masked Singer” could have also been celebrating “’90s Night.” That’s because the two celebrities unmasked on Wednesday’s episodes were both TV stars from that era: Melissa Joan Hart (of “Clarissa Explains It All” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” fame) and Alicia Witt. Hart was revealed to be Lamp, while Witt was Dandelion.
Witt had won the previous week as Dandelion, but her journey ended here. For Dandelion, panelist Ken Jeong guessed Witt right. Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg thought it was Milla Jovovich. Robin Thicke went with Sara Bareilles and Nicole Scherzinger named Zooey Deschanel.
For Lamp, McCarthy Wahlberg, Thicke and Scherzinger all got it right with Hart. Jeong went rogue with Michelle Williams.

It just wouldn’t be a 9-1-1 season premiere without a cataclysmic natural disaster hitting Los Angeles, now would it?
After Season 2 kicked off with a devastating earthquake, a new trailer for Season 3 of Fox’s first-responders procedural — which you can watch above — sees a massive tidal wave rushing towards a beach full of unsuspecting Angelenos. That includes Buck, who’s enjoying some carnival games on the Santa Monica pier when the wave starts making its way towards shore. As alarms sound and chaos ensues, Buck screams, “Get off the beach!” while sprinting to safety. (The moody cover of...

As Bananarama would say, it's a "cruel, cruel summer" in the early days of the zombie apocalypse in the official trailer for Black Summer, a prequel series that takes place in the same living dead universe as Z Nation.
Co-created by Karl Schaefer and John Hyams, all eight episodes of the first season of Black Summer will premiere on Netflix on April 11th.
Although Black Summer takes place in the same world as Z Nation, the tone of the new series looks to be decidedly more dark than the horror comedy style of its predecessor, and you can get a taste of what to expect in the official trailer below.
"A prequel set in the Z Nation universe, Black Summer is a new series introducing all new characters from every walk of life. Jamie King (Hart of Dixie) stars as a mother, torn from her daughter, who embarks upon a harrowing journey,...

The age of the celebrity supergroup charity single truly began in October 1984, when Boomtown Rats singer Bob Geldof watched in horror as footage of the worsening Ethiopian famine played across his television screen as part of a BBC News documentary. He was still haunted by the images a week later when a chance encounter reunited him with an old friend, Ultravox frontman Midge Ure, who was just as troubled by what he had seen on the report. The men decided to channel their outrage into a new charity single.

Surprise surprise, we’re back with Another review of a karaoke game! What’s more surprising is that it seems Let’s Sing 2019 is the only update to any of this generations karaoke game franchises this year. So no head-to-head review for this year unfortunately. But what that does mean is that Let’s Sing has the entire karaoke market to itself – whether that’s a good thing remains to be seen.
Last year we struggled to find both Let’s Sing 2018 and We Sing Pop at retail – which is undoubtedly why this years game, Let’s Sing 2019, has made its debut digitally Before coming to retail later this year. What the issue with distribution is I do not know but I’m hoping a digital-only future is not on the cards. Going digital only would not bode well for the future of the series, or the genre as a whole.

You couldn't get much more '90s than Tfi Friday. Even if you watched an episode of Friends while wearing a fisherman's hat with Shed Seven playing 'Chasing Rainbows' at the same time in your living room, it still wouldn't be as '90s as Chris Evans stood at a bar, shouting "Wiiiiiilll" in between bursts of 'The Riverboat Song'.
So when Chris Evans revealed over the Bank Holiday that Channel 4 had approached him to revive the show to mark its 20th anniversary next year (it isn't actually 20 until 2016, but let's not quibble over small details), there were understandably a few groans from people who thought the rowdy entertainment show should be left in the decade of Cool Britannia, Hooch and Kula Shaker.
But we disagree, for the five following reasons:
1. Tfi was live. Tfi was unpredictable.
Well, it was normally live. It was until Shaun Ryder...

Top Gun, the Smiths, The A-Team … popular culture reached its height in the 1980s – didn't it? Toby Litt on a decade he hated at the time, but is reluctantly starting to admire
There's a fantastically annoying ad on Spotify at the moment for yet another Hits of the 80s compilation CD. Voiceover man hails "the decade that just won't die" – which is true, even though, along with a large number of like-minded people, I spent most of the 80s doing my best to kill them. But with shoulder pads and bad prints being the order of the day summer-fashion-wise, with Wire magazine championing a genre of music they call "hypnagogic pop" ("it refashions 80s chart pop-rock into a hazy, psychedelic drone") and with the release of two blockbusting remakes on the same day – The Karate Kid and The A-Team – it seems that the 80s zombie everpresence is being reaffirmed, in pop culture and,...

You may have noticed that I have a big soft spot for Cameron Crowe. Maybe it's because I saw Fast Times at Ridgemont High at such an impressionable age, or maybe because Lloyd Dobler forever set an impossible standard for romantic nice guys, or it could be as simple as that we have the same taste in music. But whatever it is, I still think he's one of the best writer/directors working today. Which is why today's Scenes (Songs) We Love, is dedicated to one of Crowe's lesser-known films (so lesser-known in fact, that Universal has yet to release an 'official' DVD), the 1984 dramedy, The Wild Life and its theme, provided by '80s girl group, Bananarama.
The Wild Life was written by Crowe and directed by Art Linson, who had also produced Fast Times (and most recently, the band biopic, The Runaways), and the movie centered around La...

Need more proof that pre-release polling is totally useless? Heading into this weekend of '80s reboots, The Karate Kid and The A-Team were running neck and neck -- both pegged for around $30 million in ticket sales. Where are those "Dewey Defeats Truman" headlines when you need them? The Karate Kid almost doubled those expectations this weekend, easily defeating the exploding version of The A-Team in the process. Those stories of June Gloom in Hollywood can stop now. The cruel summer -- ahem -- is officially over. Cue up some Bananarama and click ahead for the weekend receipts.

I saw a lot in theaters this week, including Howl last night, which I will write about early this week
The Karate Kid (1984) Quick Thoughts: I have a hard time believing I am the only one that watch the original Karate Kid this week. I didn't want to watch it before seeing the remake, but I couldn't resist watching it afterward. One thing I wanted to fit into my review of the remake was the difference in music such as Joe Esposito's "You're the Best" and Bananarama's "Cruel Summer". Unfortunately, you can only fit so much in a review, I saved another omission for my weekend playlist write-up.
There you have it. Now share your weekly recaps and weigh in with any thoughts you may have on the films I saw. And remember to connect with my Netflix queue by clicking here, I have already added several titles...
