To understand "Left Behind," one must understand a version of Christianity not widely practiced by many people outside certain pockets of the United States. In some American Evangelical churches, they preach of the coming Rapture, when all of the Christians on Earth -- including the dead ones -- will be bodily scooped up by God and transported into Heaven. The idea of a Rapture is taken from an interpretation from the Book of Thessalonians which didn't enter into the Christian lexicon until about the 1830s, making it a very recent development. When Evangelical churches began to become popular in the United States in the 1950s, a stripe of fundamentalist theology began embracing the Rapture as a prophecy that was almost immediately nigh.

Everyone loves a real-life triumph story. The perseverance of the human spirit to overcome any obstacle put in its way. Someone put in a bad situation but they push themselves past it and accomplish their dreams. Yes. We all want it. It makes our hearts go pitter-patter. Whether we like to admit it or not we drop a few tears in the darkness of the movie theater and feel a little lighter as we walk out the doors back into our real lives. One story that had people in amazement was the story of Michael Oher. A young child who was left to his own survival would be taken in by Sean and Leigh Ann Tuohy who pushed him to get his life on track and helped him achieve the impossible and eventually become not only a college graduate but a highly paid NFL football player.

“The Blind Side” was an Oscar-winning, feel-good hit from the moment that it premiered in 2009. The Sandra Bullock-led film told the story of Super Bowl champion NFL lineman Michael Oher and how his difficult childhood led to his being adopted by the Tuohy family who helped him become a high school football star, before heading off to college at Ole Miss. However, recently, Oher himself has leveled damaging accusations at the Tuohy family, claiming that they never adopted him, but instead had him placed in a conservatorship and used that to take money that rightfully should belong to him. In the latest CNN FlashDoc, ‘Blindsided,” journalists explore all sides of the story to get down to the bottom of what actually happened to this fractured family. After his name first graced the big screen in the The Blind Side, the real story of Michael Oher is told in the new documentary Blindsided, which has just debuted its first trailer ahead of its November 16th premiere.
When The Blind Side first premiered in 2009, it earned more than $300 million at the box office, nabbed Sandra Bullock an Oscar, and became one of history’s most successful sports films. Its plot centered around Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, a wealthy couple who adopt a foster child and help him become an NFL champion. It claimed to be based on a true story, one with an undoubtedly happy ending.
Then, in August 2023, Michael Oher filed a lawsuit against the Tuohys saying they actually never adopted him. Instead, he claimed his new “parents” created a conservatorship that granted them legal authority to make business deals in his name, subsequently raking in...

The conservatorship between former NFL tackle Michael Oher and Leigh Ann and Sean Tuohy – subjects of the 2009 Oscar-winning film The Blind Side – has ended. While this is just one move in the right direction for Michael Oher, the judge did not dismiss the case itself.
The case itself stems from Michael Oher claiming that the Tuohy family tricked him into signing paperwork that made Leigh Ann and Sean conservators, even though he says he was led to believe he would be legally adopted by the couple. Adding to this, Oher alleges that the Tuohys used this status as a way to ensure he could not be properly financially compensated for The Blind Side.
At the time, the filing stated, “Michael Oher discovered this lie to his chagrin and embarrassment in February of 2023, when he learned that the Conservatorship to which he consented on the basis that doing so would make...

Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, the co-founders of The Blind Side financier Alcon Entertainment, who also served as producers for the supposedly true-life family drama, have addressed controversy stemming from a recent lawsuit filed by pic’s subject Michael Oher, claiming there have been “many mischaracterizations and uninformed opinions” put out about the situation, and that the film they made is “as true today as it was 14 years ago.”
“The Blind Side is verifiably authentic and will never be a lie or fake,” the pair stated, “regardless of the familial ups and downs that have occurred subsequent to the film.”
Former NFL star Oher’s petition filed in Tennessee court alleges that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, the couple depicted in the film as his good-hearted adoptive parents, tricked him into a conservatorship to secure legal authority over business deals in his name, depriving him of profits from the film...

Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy were seen strolling around their neighbourhood in Florida over the weekend, marking the first time they’ve been seen in public since Michael Oher filed his high-profile lawsuit against his former adoptive parents.
In photos obtained and published by The Daily Mail, the Tuohys were spotted taking a walk in the Santa Rosa Beach area of Florida.
Leigh Anne wore a white t-shirt and a pink tennis skirt along with white sneakers, and a hot pink fanny pack while rocking white earbuds.
Meanwhile, Sean walked alongside her in dark blue shorts and a light blue t-shirt, as they strolled and chatted with an unknown third person.
The outing comes almost a week after Michael Oher — the former NFL star who inspired the Oscar-nominated film “The Blind Side” — filed legal documents in Tennessee court requesting it terminate a conservatorship after alleging the Tuohys lied about adopting...

Over the past week, some have called for Sandra Bullock to return the Academy Award she won for playing Leigh Anne Tuohy in 2009’s The Blind Side – and not because she didn’t deserve it. Rather, the outcry stems from former pro football player Michael Oher claiming that Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy never actually adopted him and instead used the story for financial gains, a discovery he made nearly 15 years after The Blind Side came out.
So, why are people calling for Sandra Bullock to return her Oscar for The Blind Side, which she won by beating out the likes of Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren? We’re afraid the attempts to find any logic within the situation have come up with absolutely nothing, since obviously (or so we thought…) the reception of The Blind Side and the numerous accolades Sandra Bullock received (also including a Golden Globe and...

Michael Lewis is deflecting blame at him and the family accused of exploiting the retired NFL player Michael Oher, the subject of his best-selling book The Blind Side, toward the “Hollywood studio system.”
Lewis told The Washington Post that he and the family of Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy have each received roughly $350,000 from the profits of the movie. He said that the Tuohys planned to evenly split their share with Oher, who declined the payments in what may be a prelude to a lawsuit. They subsequently deposited his royalty checks in a trust fund for Oher’s son, he added.
“Michael Oher should join the writers strike,” the author said in an interview with the Post on Wednesday. “It’s outrageous how Hollywood accounting works, but the money is not in the Tuohys’ pockets.”

Michael Lewis, the author of “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game,” has responded to Michael Oher’s accusations against Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy.
Oher, the NFL star at the center of “The Blind Side” film, alleged that the Tuohys cut him out of profits from the Oscar-winning movie adaptation and never actually adopted him, instead tricking him into making the couple his conservators.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Lewis denied Oher’s claim that the Tuohys made millions off of the film, while Oher was uncompensated.
“Everybody should be mad at the Hollywood studio system,” Lewis said. “Michael Oher should join the writers strike. It’s outrageous how Hollywood accounting works, but the money is not in the Tuohys’ pockets.”
Lewis told The Washington Post that 20th Century Fox paid $250,000 for the rights to “The Blind Side,” which the author apparently split 50-50 with the Tuohy family.

Amid the ongoing legal drama between Michael Oher and the Tuohy family, author Michael Lewis — who wrote the book which the 2009 Oscar-nominated film “The Blind Side” was adapted from — is weighing in.
Recently, Oher — the former NFL star who was the inspiration behind the book and the film — filed legal documents in Tennessee court requesting it terminate a conservatorship after alleging Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy lied about adopting him and tricked him into making them his conservators shortly after he turned 18.
Oher claims the Tuohys made millions off his name while he never received a dime, after the film — starring Sandra Bullock, Quinton Aaron, Jae Head, Tim McGraw, Lily Collins and Kathy Bates — earned more than $300 million at the box office.
However, Lewis claims that, despite the film’s success, none of the real-life figures who inspired the film have gotten nearly any money from it in the 13 years since its release.

How Does ‘The Blind Side’ Look in Light of Michael Oher’s Lawsuit? Even More Fake Than It Did Before
It’s a clockwork ritual of awards season. A movie in contention, one based on a true story, will be dinged for presenting a version of reality that isn’t real enough. The critical chatter often starts on Twitter, but it can come from anywhere, ultimately spreading to the mainstream media. We’ve seen this happen with dramas as disparate as “A Beautiful Mind” and “Green Book” and “Mank.” The original source of the attack can often be a rival studio, out to damage an awards competitor (a tactic that was turned into a kind of bloodsport by Harvey Weinstein). Yet it’s a curious thing: By the time the Oscars have come and gone, the criticisms tend to roll right off the movie in question. It’s as if, awards season aside, they never mattered all that much in the first place.

“The Blind Side” actor Quinton Aaron is jumping to his co-star Sandra Bullock’s defence amid the legal drama surrounding Michael Oher and the Tuohy family.
Aaron played Oher in the 2009 flick alongside Bullock, who won a Best Actress Oscar for her role as Leigh Anne Tuohy.
A synopsis for the film reads, “The story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All-American football player and first-round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family.”
With Oher now filing a lawsuit against the Tuohys this week, claiming they tricked him into a conservatorship shortly after he turned 18, social media users called for Bullock’s Oscar to be taken away.
However, Aaron insisted that’s not necessary.

Los Angeles, Aug 16 (Ians) American footballer Michael Oher has made some big claims with regards to the movie ‘The Blind Side’ which was based on his life, saying that the real life pair of Leah Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy did not compensate him for the critically acclaimed and commercially successful 2006 blockbuster sports drama film.
He has further claimed that the couple did not adopt him, but rather “tricked” him into signing conservatorship papers under the guise of adoption papers so that they could mint money off his name and sign business deals, while not paying him any royalties whatsoever.
According to Variety, the Tuohy couple’s attorney, Marty Singer, gave out a lengthy statement on Tuesday afternoon in response to the footballer’s claims.

An attorney for Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy has issued a response to Michael Oher’s petition against them, which alleged that the couple deceived Oher into making the pair his conservators at age 18 and that he has not shared in the revenue from the feature “The Blind Side,” which drew from his life story.

Retired NFL star Michael Oher, whose life story was captured in John Lee Hancock’s 2009 film “The Blind Side,” is alleging that his seemingly adoptive parents forced him into a questionable conservatorship at age 18.

The story of Michael Oher, the retired NFL star who was supposedly adopted by a wealthy white family who lifted him out of poverty, was immortalized in the 2009 blockbuster film “The Blind Side.” But now, Oher, 37, alleges that much of that heartwarming tale is a lie crafted by the family in order to profit off of his name, ESPN reports.

Everyone loves an uplifting story, especially one that features a protagonist who beats the odds and achieves greatness. "The Blind Side" is a perfect example of this — it follows the story of Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron), a neglected kid from a rough neighborhood who succeeds academically and discovers his talents as an offensive tackle after being adopted by the wealthy Tuohy family. As a result of those skills and the love and encouragement of the Tuohys, Oher gets into college and eventually makes it to the NFL — two things that are often written off as pipe dreams by kids from poor neighborhoods.
"The Blind Side" grossed 309 million dollars worldwide, was the eighth highest-grossing movie of 2009, and earned Sandra Bullock an Academy Award for her portrayal of the feisty matriarch, Leigh Anne Tuohy. "The Blind Side" proved, once again, that audiences love an inspiring underdog tale, especially when it's based on a true story.

On Friday, August 19, 2022 Amy and Gary Green are hosting an evening fundraiser at their home in Bridgehampton, New York to support the philanthropic and conservation efforts of the African Community & Conservation Fund (Accf) and Tusk, a UK-based charity headed up by Royal Patron, Prince William.

Covid-19 devastated jobs and livelihoods across the African continent, and with few economic recovery resources, decades of conservation and community upliftment success has been put at risk. Based on the unbelievable but true events, I, Tonya is a darkly comedic tale of American figure skater, Tonya Harding, and one of the most sensational scandals in sports history. Though Harding was the first American woman to complete a triple axel in competition, her legacy was forever defined by her association with an infamous, ill-conceived, and even more poorly executed attack on fellow Olympic competitor Nancy Kerrigan.

Recently released from prison, Byron (Quinton Aaron) has secured a probationary placement at his step-brother’s family farm. Working for widower Beth (Amy Pietz) and her two daughters, Eliza (Gillian Zinser) and Julia (Nicole Scimeca), Byron has something of a rude awakening when he realises just how much work is involved in a farm’s day-to-day operations. His sponsor Josh, a lawyer, isn’t around much, so it’s left to a skeptical and overworked Beth to show him the ropes. Meanwhile, Paulie (Marcus Henderson), Byron’s friend from prison, tempts him with an easier and eminently more appealing alternative.
From first-time writer-director Ben Caird, a British-American brought up in London, Halfway has similarly spent time being developed on both sides of the Atlantic. Originally envisioned as the story of a UK national transplanted to the States for rehabilitation, the script evolved over time to focus more...

Chicago – Amy Pietz is a Midwesterner made good in her primary role as a working actor. And what better performer to appear at the kick-off of the 2017 Midwest Independent Film Festival, as Pietz’s new film takes place in her native Wisconsin.

The new year of the Midwest Independent Film Festival starts Tuesday, Feb. 7th, at the Landmark Century Centre Cinema in Chicago.
Amy Pietz was born in Wisconsin, from modest circumstances, and was determined at an early age to be a performer. The Blind Side may have received a Best Picture nomination and won Sandra Bullock a Best Actress Oscar, but it is having a bit of a different effect on the man whose story inspired the film in the first place. Based on the Michael Lewis book of the same name, telling the story of Michael Oher, now playing left tackle for the Carolina Panthers, says the movie has taken away from what he does as a player. "I'm not trying to prove anything," Oher told Espn. "People look at me, and they take things away from me because of a movie. They don't really see the skills and the kind of player I am. That's why I get downgraded so much, because of something off the field." It's interesting to hear these comments now and hear Oher say them in relation to the movie and not Lewis' best-selling book. It says a lot,...

This is the second trailer we have to share with you today about a movie that deals with the rapture. This movie is called Left Behind, and in it Nicolas Cage faces off with the end of the world. I don't understand what Hollywood's fascination with the rapture is all of a sudden, but audiences are sure to get sick of it really fast. This movie looks pretty bad, and I don't think I'll be wasting my time watching it. What make me really sad is that these are the kinds of films that Cage has resorted to making.
Left Behind follows Rayford Steele (Cage), who is piloting a commercial airliner just hours after the Rapture when millions of people around the globe simply vanish. Thirty thousand feet over the Atlantic, Rayford is faced with a damaged plane, terrified passengers, and a desperate desire to get back to his family.

The drama tells the story of a recently released convict who faces the conflict of enduring ties with his old gang world, while struggling to adapt to a life on probation as the only black man in a conservative white Midwestern farm town. The character, Byron, is described as physically imposing, yet socially reserved. Further, he's said to be far from your typical gangster. An aptitude for mathematics, he was very much the brains behind the gang he used to be a part of, than brawn, despite his imposing size. And it is because of his math...
