It seems like there isn’t much left between Princess Rhaenyra becoming Queen Rhaenyra. Armed with a vengeance and a hunger for power, Rhaenyra is a worthy opponent to Aegon II who seems to be a clueless King without the guidance of her council and mother.
The latest promo featuring Lord Corlys Velaryon, played by Steve Toussaint, showcases the character finally joining Rhaenyra’s cause and standing with his wife Rhaenys.

Rhaenyra and Rhaenys talk war
The latest trailer shows the two leading ladies of Team Black talking about war and its deadly consequences. A war between kings is hateful, but a war between dragons is bloody and calls for many deaths. Along with that, we see a lot of violence, a thirst for revenge, and angry men waiting to unleash the beast within.

Another reason why House of the Dragon Season 2 is going to be so exciting is because of the new character additions to the cast. We will finally get to see the cunning Alys Rivers in the upcoming season.
Actor Gayle Rankin will be playing Alys Rivers, who is said to be a healer in the books. The Scottish actress has been a part of major Netflix and HBO shows in the past. Her entry into the world of House of the Dragon will surely shake things up a bit. In a recent interview, she talked a bit about the role, with actor Eddie Redmayne next to her.

This article contains no spoilers for House Of The Dragon season 2. But it does broadly allude to events from the source material Fire & Blood.
House of the Dragon season 2 is merely one month away from its June 16 premiere on HBO. As such, many fresh tidbits are beginning to trickle out about the next batch episodes for the Game of Thrones prequel.
The latest, and most substantial download of information arrived yesterday in the form of a massive, revealing new trailer and an equally massive, revealing feature from Entertainment Weekly. While we’ve already delved into the former, there’s a detail hidden in the later that deserves further exploration.
Amid EW‘s sprawling, well-written report focusing on House of the Dragon stars Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen) and Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), there’s a passage from series writer Sara Hess that invokes an unlikely source of inspiration for season 2: The Shining.

House of the Dragon season 1 introduced us to House Velaryon, an old Valyrian House whose members are master seafarers. The seat of House Velaryon is on Driftmark, with the head of the House holding the title “Lord of the Tides.”
In season 1, the Sea Snake, Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), held this title. Though the title was to pass to his son Ser Laenor, we witnessed the Velaryon lord fleeing the land of Westeros. This left Corlys without an heir.
However, we will see events from George R.R. Martin’s book Fire and Blood come to life in House of the Dragon Season 2. The show will introduce two new characters from the town of Hull on Driftmark.
The first, Addam of Hull, will fight for the Blacks as a dragonrider. His brother Alyn Velaryon, also called Alyn Oakenfist and Alyn of Hull, however, has a different destiny. The latest House of...

HBO has released the first full-length trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 (via SFFGazette.com), and brace yourselves because it's epic. In the newly released footage, we see more of the scheming which continues in Westeros as war beckons between Queen Alicent Hightower and Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen.
The Targaryen civil war known as the "Dance of the Dragons" is nearly upon us and this sneak peek does a phenomenal job of setting the stage for the conflict to come.
All the major players are highlighted, with the sneak peek ending on a suitably epic note as Rhaenyra stands tall with Syrax looming large behind her. Who will prevail? Book readers (and most Game of Thrones fans) will know, but we won't spoil anything here,

On Tuesday, HBO released the full trailer for “House of the Dragon” Season 2, which premieres June 16.
The eight-episode second season of the “Game of Thrones” prequel finds the Targaryens in a civil war, with the Greens – supporters of Aegon II Targaryn (Tom Glynn-Carney), son of late king Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and the traditional heir – on one side, and the Blacks – partisans of Viserys’ daughter Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), Viserys’ chosen heir, and her husband/uncle Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) on the other. Both sides claim the Iron Throne, and they will kill their kin to get it.
The trailer previews the combination of political strategy, intense action, and interpersonal backstabbing that’s the “Game of Thrones” franchise’s signature. On the political side, there’s a small council meeting where Aegon forcefully rejects the idea of dignity in favor of revenge. On the action side,...

All hail the king ... or the queen! Which one has the rightful claim, you ask? Well, that depends on which side you happen to have sworn allegiance to in the great Targaryen schism known as the Dance of the Dragons.
"House of the Dragon" lived up to its billing as an essential "Game of Thrones" prequel, set hundreds of years before Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen ever made their claims on the Iron Throne. The events of the mythic Targaryen civil war always loomed large in the background of the original HBO series, but never before had we seen the fire, blood, and (of course) incest depicted with as much fervor as the 10 episodes that comprised its debut season. With all the major players fully established and the stakes set impossibly high, season 2 now has a full runway to double down on our favorite royal squabble and dive deep into...

HBO is rolling out some beauteous dragon footage and a potty-mouthed Aegon in the season 2 trailer for House of the Dragon, which returns June 16.
The drama based on on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” is setting up an epic war between the Targaryens and the Hightowers following the Season 1 finale, which saw tragedy befall the former (R.I.P Prince Lucerys Velaryon) at the hands of the latter (Prince Aemond Targaryen). The series was largely able to continue filming last summer during the strikes as it has a largely British cast under Equity contracts rather than SAG-AFTRA ones.

“House of the Dragon” Season 2 is about to soar onto screens soon.
After Season 2 was first unveiled at Ccxp in Sao Paolo in December 2023 with a teaser, and later released viral dueling trailers, the season of the dragon is almost upon audiences. Season 2 will not have a time jump like in Season 1, and instead solely focus on former besties turned step-family Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent (Olivia Cooke) as they both battle for the Iron Throne.
Per the official synopsis, after the death of King Viserys I (Paddy Considine), an undeniable rift has grown between his daughter Rhaenyra (D’Arcy) and wife Alicent (Cooke), after their close friendship as teenagers. A rift that’s now a full-blown civil war.
The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” and is set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”

HBO is taking you behind the scenes of House of the Dragon Season 2 in a new video. Watch as showrunner Ryan Condal and the cast express their excitement to be back on set and what the fans can expect in the new season.
The eight-episode second season debuts on Sunday, June 16 (9:00-10:00 p.m. Et/Pt) on HBO and will be available to stream on Max.

Eddie Redmayne received his second Tony Award nomination Tuesday, for his role as the shape-shifting Emcee in the Broadway revival of Cabaret.
It’s a role the actor, known for leading films such as The Theory of Everything and in the Fantastic Beasts series, played during the production’s previous West End run. And while he’s already put his own spin on it, with the Emcee evolving from master of ceremonies at the Berlin nightclub at the center of the show to something more sinister, Redmayne said he’s still finding more to explore.
“He’s so enigmatic that he’s endlessly compelling to keep trying to mine and investigate,” Redmayne said.
Part of that exploration also comes as this Cabaret has the audience sitting surrounding the stage, and in a theater has been transformed with three levels of bars, which are used for a pre-show. All of this...

Daniel Radcliffe’s post-“Harry Potter” career has long been dominated by his theater work, both in New York and London. On April 30, he finally scored his first Tony nomination, for his role in the musical “Merrily We Roll Along.”
Radcliffe’s buzzy stage work began in 2007 with a run in “Equus” on both sides of the pond. He powered a delightful, blockbuster revival of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” in 2011 (Grammy nomination), and since then, he has chosen an eclectic mix of projects, work where his name alone can often get challenging — or even just serious — work funded. Think the occasionally dense “The Cripple of Inishmaan,” the provocative “Privacy,” or the genre-bending experiment “The Lifespan of a Fact.” He’s long been an asset to the NY stage scene, and this morning’s recognition long-deserved.

The Alicia Keys musical Hell’s Kitchen and new play Stereophonic, about a fictional band in the 1970s, led the Tony nominations with 13 nominations each.
The Outsiders, a musical based on the 1967 S.E. Hinton book, followed with 12 nominations and the revival of Cabaret, starring Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin, followed with nine nods.
With its 13 noms, Stereophonic set a record for the most Tony nominations for a play, surpassing previous record holder Slave Play’s 12 noms in 2020.
Stereophonic‘s surprisingly strong performance even included a best score nomination despite it being a play.
In the best musical category, Hell’s Kitchen and The Outsiders were nominated, alongside the dance-based show Illionise, with music from Sufjan Stevens’ album and a book by Justin Peck and Jackie Sibblies Drury; Suffs, a musical about the women’s suffrage movement with a score and book by Shaina Taub; and Water for Elephants, based on the 2006 novel,...

Close races and sharp elbows are likely when the 2024 Tony Award nominations are announced Tuesday morning. With so many shows opening during the onslaught of the past two weeks, nominators might still be clearing their minds — and maybe taking a moment to eat and breathe — as they ponder and re-ponder the 36 productions that opened on Broadway between April 28, 2023, and April 25, 2024.
Some of the nominations are no-brainers: The much-praised and hugely popular Merrily We Roll Along is a sure bet for all concerned, but what about more polarizing fare? Cabaret, Here Lies Love, Water for Elephants, I’m looking at you.
A selection of categories will be read live on CBS Mornings at 8:30 am Et, and a full livestream of the announcements will follow at 9 a.m. Et on the official Tony Awards YouTube page.

A new musical, a musical revival and a new play with music will dominate the 2024 Tony Awards nominations, according to our official odds in 17 of the 26 categories. The latest revival of the classic John Kander and Fred Ebb musical “Cabaret,” fresh off a smash run on the West End, and the new musical “Hell’s Kitchen” that is loosely based on the life of Alicia Keys and her music will both net at least seven nominations. New works “Days of Wine and Roses,” “Here Lies Love” and “Suffs” and the starry revival of Stephen Sondheim‘s notorious flop “Merrily We Roll Along” will also earn substantial nominations tallies.
Playwright David Adjmi‘s “Stereophonic” will lead this year’s crop of plays and play revivals with at least five nominations. Right behind are five other works – two new shows and three revivals – that will all tie at least four nominations apiece,...

The 2023-2024 Broadway season that kicked off last June with the opening of “Grey House” featured 36 productions of new and revived musicals and plays. “This crazy whirlwind of a season has finally come to an end,” declares Sam Eckmann as we kick off our final Tony Awards nominations predictions slugfest of 2024. We begin our conversation with the musical categories and the ever-challenging race for Best Musical. Sam and I both feel “pretty secure” about the top three shows – “Suffs,” “Illinoise” and “Hell’s Kitchen” – and we surprisingly concur on the final two slots, predicting “Here Lies Love” and “The Outsiders.” There are so many potential nominees in contention, though, that we cite our alternate picks as I opt for “Days of Wine and Roses” as my number six, and Sam goes with “The Notebook.” Watch our full Tony Awards video slugfest above.

When Game of Thrones wrapped up its run after eight seasons, it seemed it had ruined any chance of a spinoff due to the poor fan reaction to the final season.
House of the Dragon, a prequel charting the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty, premiered in 2022 and delivered plenty of fantasy drama to reignite interest in the franchise.
The Targaryen storyline is interesting because we didn’t meet many of them on the original series due to them being dead.
House of the Dragon Season 1 successfully established the conflicts between the Greens and the Blacks to prepare for the mother of all battles on House of the Dragon Season 2.

In 2014, Gayle Rankin made her Broadway debut in Sam Mendes’ revival of Cabaret, playing the supporting role of Fraulein Kost. Now, exactly a decade later, Rankin is playing the lead role of Sally Bowles opposite Eddie Redmayne in a new Broadway production that opened April 21.
“I feel like a completely different person,” says Rankin, as she sits in her dressing room in a red dressing gown, with her blond hair clipped back. “It’s so rare that you get to see your life marked by something so actual, by a piece of work. And what a piece of work to be able to gauge where you are as a human being.”
In recent years, the Scottish actress — who grew up south of Glasgow — rose to prominence with a series of film and TV roles, including The Greatest Showman and HBO’s Perry Mason, and most notably as Sheila the She-Wolf...

Life’s not all a cabaret for film actors making their way to Broadway.
In the case of Eddie Redmayne, who now stars as the ghoul-like and flamboyant Emcee in director Rebecca Frecknall’s “Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club” at New York’s August Wilson Theatre, life behind the scenes is more “monastic,” as he told IndieWire, than song-and-dance bacchanalia.
“When you’re doing a musical like this, it’s quite monastic living, and it’s almost more like being an athlete than an actor sometimes because when you’re doing eight shows a week, you’re keeping your voice in decent nick,” said Redmayne, Zooming from the backseat of a car between appointments, which just included lunch with Joel Grey, who famously starred as the Master of Ceremonies in Bob Fosse‘s Oscar-winning 1972 film.

I thought I was safe to boldly pronounce my initial 2024 Tony Awards predictions, but then Sufjan Stevens appeared to stomp all over them. As David Buchanan and I convened to discuss where we thought the musical nominations were headed this season, news broke that Off-Broadway’s dreamy dance show “Illinoise” will transfer to the St. James Theatre just in time to compete at this year’s ceremony. The show, based on Stevens’ seminal album, has thrown our Tony predictions into disarray. Watch our full video slugfest above.
“Illinoise” marks the 15th new musical of the 2023-2024 season. That’s more new tuners than any Broadway season since 1975-1976. Theatergoers this year are indeed spoiled with a glut of new shows, but predicting the coveted Best Musical category has become a titanic task.

HBO’s confirmed a June 16, 2024 premiere date for House of the Dragon season two and released the first-ever “dueling” trailers. Viewers are asked to choose a side in the war between House Targaryen (#TeamBlack) and House Hightower (#TeamGreen), and then watch the trailer dedicated to their chosen allegiance.
“Westeros is on the brink of a bloody civil war with the Green and Black Councils fighting for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra, respectively. As each side believes theirs to be the rightful seat on the Iron Throne, the Green and Black trailers reflect those two perspectives in separate yet complementary halves of the same story,” reads HBO’s press release. “For global audiences, ‘All Must Choose’ their side of House Targaryen as the realm fractures in season two.”
New episodes of the eight-episode second season will debut on Sundays at 9pm Et/Pt.

House of the Dragon season two dropped dueling trailers Thursday, prompting fans to choose between the black trailer, focusing on Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), or the green one, which puts Alicent (Olivia Cooke) at the forefront.
Rhaenyra’s trailer focuses on her, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) and their Dragonstone forces, while the green puts King Landing’s team of Alicent, Otto (Rhys Ifans) and her children — King Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Prince Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) — at the forefront. This season of the Emmy-nominated show will begin the Targaryen’s civil war, also known as the Dance of the Dragons.
Max also announced a June 16 release date for the eight-episode second season of the Game of Thrones prequel that picks up where the first season of the Emmy-winning show left off. The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood and takes place 200 years before the events of the hit...

House of the Dragon Season 2 will return to TV screens this summer.
HBO kicked off the promotional campaign for the sophomore season of the Game of Thrones spinoff on Thursday – and it’s a unique approach.
Instead of releasing one trailer, we got two—one focused on Team Black and another on Team Green.
The purpose is to allow viewers to easily choose between the two warring sides of the Targaryen family.
New episodes of the eight-part season get underway on Sunday, June 16, at 9/8c on HBO and Max.
Let’s delve into the two trailers because each makes a compelling case for being Team Black and Team Green.
