"Rejection is just a part of life. It's okay." Levelfilm in Canada has debuted an official trailer for an indie coming-of-age comedy titled Drinkwater, which premiered at a few Canadian festivals last year. It won the 2021 Telus Audience Choice Award for Canadian Narrative at the Calgary Film Festival. Drinkwater is described as a coming-of-age story in the John Hughes tradition. Mike Drinkwater is lost. His father, Hank, is hardly the role model Mike deserves. A young woman moves to town, and their friendship gives them the courage to overcome their challenges. Director Stephen S. Campanelli has made a "fun, quirky, small-town coming-of-age story. Set in 2020, the film still captures the nostalgia of the ’80s, filled with a great cast and Canadiana written all over it." Starring Daniel Doheny and Eric McCormack as the two Drinkwaters, with Louriza Tronco, Alex Zahara, Jordan Burtchett, and Naika Toussaint. This looks way better than it sounds!

This year’s virtual Comic-Con@Home has announced its schedule for Saturday, July 25. The highlights are below.
The virtual event replaces the annual San Diego Comic-Con, the largest fan convention in North America, which was to be held July 22–26 at the San Diego Convention Center, until the Covid-19 pandemic forced its cancellation.
In June, Comic-Con International — the non-profit organization that oversees Sdcc and its sister event, WonderCon in Anaheim, Calif. — announced it was moving forward with the virtual event on the same dates. This time, however, the event is free and open to all.
The Comic-Con@Home schedule — including Wednesday, July 22, Thursday, July 23, and Friday, July 24 — is being announced daily through Sunday.
Saturday’s events include (all times are Pacific Daylight):
10–11 a.m.
“Cosmos: Possible Worlds” — featuring the host and creators of the Fox docu-series, including host Neil deGrasse Tyson, visual effects supervisor Jeffrey A. Okun, executive producer and director Ann Druyan,...

The news that The Order season 2 was assured on Netflix was almost certainly welcome for those viewers who were wondering what would happen to the Knights of St. Christopher werewolves after the events of the season finale. Fortunately, the show returns this summer, and lead actors Sarah Grey and Jake Manley are on board for the new season.
The Order may have snuck under people’s radar, but enough people tuned in to the series about a secret magical society hidden on a college campus for Netflix to keep the story going. The show comes from co-creators Dennis Heaton (Ghost Wars) and Shelley Eriksen (Continuum) and Nomadic Pictures, which also produces the hit vampire series Van Helsing for Syfy. Adding the element of justice-seeking werewolves to an otherwise familiar formula of hidden magic-users must have been just what viewers were looking for.

San Diego Comic-Con is right around the corner, and I cannot wait to see what kind of awesomeness this year has to offer! I’ve been attending Comic-Con for years! I remember the days where fans could walk in and buy their tickets on the day they arrived. Times have certainly changed as geek culture has grown and exploded in popularity. When I was growing up, I would have never thought that the stuff I was into would actually be popular one day, but that has happened.
Anyway, I’m excited for Comic-Con this year! Some studios like Warner Bros., Legendary, and Sony have bowed out, but that doesn’t mean there’s not going to be a ton of stuff to do and see! The full schedule for Comic-Con has been released, so now is the time to start planning your Comic-Con adventure!

Check back for updates to the schedule. The TV lineup for the 50th Comic-Con is bursting at the seams and the San Diego Convention Center will be bustling with everything from the supernatural to superheroes.
Star Trek will be beaming into Hall H with a look at the cultural phenomenon created by Gene Roddenberry. In addition to CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery, Comic-Con attendees will be the first to hear about the highly anticipated new series Star Trek: Picard starring Sir Patrick Stewart as well as the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks.
This year, winter will be coming one last time as the confab will host HBO’s Game of Thrones. The series may be done, but the fandom is alive and well. Stars and creators will take the Hall H stage July 19 with Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Liam Cunningham...

The Order pits a campus-based secret society of magic users against werewolves in a story that takes a few episodes to really heat up.

Netflix shows like The Order have an advantage that series that release episodes a week apart don’t have. Potential audiences can give a new show a quick opening binge right away rather than only viewing the always tricky pilot to prove that it’s worthy of being added to their viewing schedule. The Order is definitely a supernatural show that stands alongside The Magicians or The Vampire Diaries, but the true twist to the witches versus werewolves premise doesn’t show up until third episode. College campus drama tropes bog down the first episode a bit, but the central conflict is wholly unique with plenty of humor and well-written dialogue to smooth out the rough edges.
