The Semifinals was a bloodbath on The Voice season 9, with five contestants being sent home, leaving us with only four to duke it out for the title in the finale.
I was on a conference call with the five eliminated artists -- Shelby Brown, Zach Seabaugh, Braiden Sunshine, Madi Davis and Amy Vachal. They talked about whether strategy plays a part in choosing songs, and Madi and Zach discussed what it was like to perform for the Twitter Save -- why did Zach find it tough to perform? Also, who said, "Blake had the country mafia on his side"? Read on to find out.

Five artists wiped out on Tuesday night’s episode of "The Voice" in one single mass elimination. That means the NBC reality show now has its final four performers ready to compete in the finale next week: Jeffery Austin, Barrett Baber, Emily Ann Roberts, and Jordan Smith. -Break- Related: 'The Voice' predictions tell you which 5 artists will be eliminated Here is how the results show operated: Three artists were immediately declared safe based on audience voting the previous 24 hours. They were Smith, Roberts, and Baber. Three quickly kicked off based on lowly votes were Shelby Brown, Braiden Sunshine, and Amy Vachal. The middle three -- Austin, Madi Davis, and Zach Seabaugh -- performed near the end of the program going for an instant save on social media from the home audience. Austin was the one to advance. Austin sang "Make It Rain." Davis performed "Don't Dream It's Over.

Now that the ugliest, bloodiest elimination in the history of The Voice is over, what the heck do we do? Take a collective, cleansing breath? Scream bloody murder at the top of our lungs? Or perhaps freeze-frame our DVRs and see who can correctly count the number of pennies stitched together to make Gwen Stefani’s coat of money colors.

Weird silhouetted people popping out of one singer’s backdrop like unwelcome whack-a-moles. Judges spending more time discussing another contestant’s pre-performance “confidence issues” than her actual vocal. A third artist being forced to perform in the midst of a baffling outdoor café set — complete with hedges and a monstrous video of a fountain — then being damned with faint praise for delivering “the most different thing I’ve heard on the show.”

It was a record-breaking week on The Voice—seven of the top ten songs on the iTunes singles chart were from the finalists' Monday night performances. Only Adele and Justin Bieber could break through the Voice domination, with Jordan Smith, Barrett Baber, Madi Davis, Emily Ann Roberts, Jeffery Austin, Amy Vachal and Shelby Brown all claiming spots in the top ten. But despite their great showing, someone still had to go home. Beware, results are below! For the third week in a row, Korin Bukowski wound up in the bottom two and had to fight for her life with the Twitter Save. This week, however, was kind of a worst nightmare situation. The 19-year-old singer stumbled during her rendition of "Try,"...

The slow trek toward the finals continues as the remaining 10 artists perform in this installment of The Voice. The group has been diminished by only one from the previous week. Shelby Brown, Evan McKeel, Barrett Baber, Korin Bukowski, Amy Vachal, Zach Seabaugh, Madi Davis, Braiden Sunshine, Jordan Smith, Emily Ann Roberts and Jeffery Austin performed like superstars in the Top 11, and all but one return to grace our screens and bid for iTunes sales while we live blog the evening's performances. Blake and Adam's teams have three artists each, Gwen has two and Pharrell has one.
During the results show, the bottom two, Evan and Korin, performed for the Twitter Save. Unfortunately, Evan was then sent home. After being in the bottom two for two weeks in a row, we'll see if Korin fares better in this round (which she totally does).

The confetti shower (traditionally reserved for “winner’s anthem” moments on reality singing competitions) landed smack in the midst of The Voice Top 11 results night — and my conspiracy theorist mind is struggling to comprehend if it was just a fluke or if there was some subtle subtext intended by exec producer Mark Burnett & Co.

I was going to start my recap of The Voice‘s Top 11 performance night by lamenting all of the unfortunate business that played out over its first 90 minutes: The silhouetted ballet dancer shaking out her hair (inside the moon!) and upstaging hapless Evan McKeel. The assassination of Helen Reddy’s “Delta Dawn” in front of 12 million viewers. The ghost of a 1999 Mandy Moore soundtrack cut floating across the stage, haunting Korin Bukowski’s musical future.
