“Something that we were all really drawn to is the ornamentation of the Victorian era,” explains “Manhunt” production designer Chloe Arbiture about taking a bolder approach to designing over 200 sets for what a well-known period in history: the aftermath of the assassination of the 16th U.S. President. “We wanted modern audiences to relate to it and to feel like there was a stake in it,” she explains about her team’s focus on ornamentation, decoration and detail. “When we look through; I mean even I’m guilty of it, but when I look through black and white photographs, I don’t really feel like this big human connection to things. But we all talked about how what makes the story human is color, is richness, is detail, and that’s something that really drove us through the entire creative process from the beginning to the end.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

A decade ago, director David Bruckner made a valiant attempt to get a new Friday the 13th film into production… it just didn’t happen. Years later, he did manage to reboot the Hellraiser franchise, with his version of Hellraiser getting released through the Hulu streaming service back in October of 2022. Surprisingly, a year and a half has gone by since that release and we haven’t heard anything about the possibility of a follow-up – until now. During a chat with ComicBook.com, producer Keith Levine confirmed that they are having conversations about making a Hellraiser sequel.
Levine said, “We are trying to do a follow-up and there have been conversations. I can’t exactly say where we’re at in those conversations, but Bruckner is involved in those conversations and we spent a lot of time and energy, I think relaunching that world. A lot of brainpower going into crafting the Cenobite design,...

When Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” was released in the fall of 2012, one of the nagging complaints — for an otherwise heralded film — related to its ending. Namely, it had too many.
Roger Ebert, in his four-star review, succinctly implied the picture should’ve wrapped before President Lincoln’s assassination. Samuel L. Jackson felt similarly, though he didn’t mince words about it. While it would be a stretch to say the contentious closing scenes chronicling Lincoln’s murder cost the film any of its Oscars — including losses in Best Editing, Best Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture — it’s exactly the type of first-thought quibble voters would use as an excuse for choosing their preferred nominee.
Though plenty of pundits backed the chosen ending and “Lincoln’s” sweeping acclaim and staggering box office spoke to its overall appreciation ($275 million for a 150-minute period drama? Martin Scorsese would kill a flower moon...

[This story contains spoilers from the two-part season premiere of Manhunt.]
In an era of TV police and crime series like CSI and The Killing, using the forensic investigation of a crime scene, including DNA and fingerprints, to help find a killer and solve a murder is commonplace.
So Monica Beletsky, the creator of Apple TV+’s Manhunt miniseries, had a challenge when adapting the pursuit of Abraham Lincoln’s killer as a true-crime detective thriller, because Lincoln’s assassination in 1865, and the 12-day hunt for John Wilkes Booth that followed, took place well before real-life forensic science and the gathering of evidence at crime scenes had been established.
“I love the idea of, how do you find this needle in a haystack, this man who could be anywhere in North America, when you don’t have a phone, you don’t have cars or video cameras? There’s no 24-hour news,” Beletsky explains to the The Hollywood Reporter.

You think you know… but you have no idea. That might be the memorable tagline of MTV’s 2000s-era docuseries “Diary,” but it applies to Apple TV+’s newest program, too.
The seven-episode ”Manhunt” tells the incredible story of the search for John Wilkes Booth (portrayed by Irish actor Anthony Boyle) in the aftermath of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln (Hamish Linklater). The limited series, of which the first two episodes are now streaming, is adapted from James L. Swanson’s book “Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer,” and while it’s a historical drama, it’s anything but dry. Described by Apple as a conspiracy thriller about one of America’s best known but least understood crimes, the show also has a perfectly deployed sense of humor, making it more than meets the eye.

Every good sports movie needs an underdog that the audience can root for. The new film from director Rod Lurie (The Last Castle, The Outpost) has a real one that would have seemed too impossible to believe if a screenwriter had made him up. He’s Mike Flynt, who at the age of 59 went back to play for his college alma mater after 37 years, becoming one of the oldest men to ever play the game.
Superbly played by Michael Chiklis, he’s the real-life hero of The Senior, which recently received its world premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. When it gets its inevitable theatrical release, this crowd-pleaser should be a potent box office attraction, especially in non-urban areas. The lines are probably already forming in Texas theaters.
The story begins in 1970, when Flynt was a star linebacker at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. Unfortunately, he also had a violent temper,...

A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.
Ever since first seeing The Ritual back in 2017, it’s been crystal clear to me that filmmaker David Bruckner is one of the best of our time. His horror films are legitimately terrifying and manage to tackle themes such as grief, loss, and trauma in shockingly powerful ways. My favourite film of 2021 was The Night House, directed by Bruckner masterfully. On the surface, it’s essentially a creepy movie about a woman who may or may not be dealing with some paranormal, otherworldly stuff in her complexly designed house, but underneath it all, it’s really a...

A few of last year’s most notable horror movies are still without physical media releases, and that’s because they ended up being streaming exclusives. That list includes Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hulu’s Prey, along with Hulu and David Bruckner‘s Hellraiser.
We have no idea at this time whether or not Hellraiser will be released on DVD/Blu-ray here in the United States, but we’ve learned the film is hitting DVD over in the United Kingdom.
The UK DVD release of Hellraiser (2022) arrives on March 27, 2023. As always, you’ll be able to watch the disc here in the States but you’ll need a Region Free DVD player first.
David Bruckner (The Night House), who helmed Netflix’s The Ritual as well as sections of Bloody Disgusting’s horror anthologies V/H/S and Southbound, directed the relaunch of the Hellraiser franchise for Spyglass Media,...

Last week, Sam Smith was seen giving Christain Cowan‘s head a little peck as the two walked through New York City’s SoHo neighborhood.
Smith, who identifies as non-binary, is known for their popular songs, such as “Stay With Me” and their newest hit “Unholy,” while Cowan is an up-and-coming women’s fashion designer.
Previously, Smith had posted a picture of the two of them meeting President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris to celebrate the signing of the Respect for Marriage Act, but has not posted a picture together since.
Smith’s last relationship, with 13 Reasons Why star Brandon Flynn, ended in 2018 due to busy and differing schedules, and they had been single since.
Cowan was even present for Smith’s performance on Saturday Night Live yesterday.

This year brought the return of Ghostface, Predator, Pinhead, Michael Myers, and Leatherface. Beyond the franchises, 2022 unleashed an onslaught of new releases that introduced new voices and horror icons to the genre. In other words, horror continues to dominate while it stretches its boundaries and flexes its creative muscles. The best horror movies of 2022 induced thrills, chills, delightfully gory kills, and even a few tears. If there’s one thing this past year made clear, it’s that horror-loving audiences are ready for a return to crowd-pleasing, fun horror that doesn’t skimp on scares.
Because it was such a strong year for horror, here are the top 15 best horror movies of 2022.

A new “Hellraiser” is upon us. The long-running horror franchise has a new, 11th installment, but this one – in a twist of fate – is good, actually!
“The Ritual” and “The Night House” director David Bruckner takes the helm of this “Hellraiser” reboot, which isn’t quite a remake of the original film but doesn’t completely upend the rules of the franchise either. It’s a new twist on the franchise with an emotional hook (the protagonist is an addict) and a new Pinhead (played by Jamie Clayton), but it delivers on the gore and practical effects that those coming to a “Hellraiser” movie would expect.
If you’re wondering how and when to watch the new “Hellraiser,” wonder no more.

“The makeup takes four hours to do, and about 45 minutes to an hour to remove,” Clayton explains. She describes the gruesome new look, “It’s so beautiful. Oh, it’s wild.”

Warning: The article below contains major spoilers for 2022's "Hellraiser."
David Bruckner's "Hellraiser" reboot boasts exquisite design work and chilling Cenobites, giving diehard fans of the franchise a unique take on who or what unlocks the Lament Configuration box. Unlike the original film, which saw a thirsty — and showstopping — Julia (Claire Higgins) feeding men to resurrect her sleazy ex-lover Frank (Sean Chapman), the reboot focuses on what drives humanity's hunger for pleasure and pain.
Bruckner interweaves themes like substance abuse and recovery into the story, positioning Riley (Odessa A'zion) as someone who has lost control over her vices. Her brother, Matt (Brandon Flynn), has become exhausted with Riley's sobriety journey. In this light, the film's indirect and direct violence becomes a metaphor for how living with addictions can spiral into harming others, intentionally or not.
While the film doesn't deliver the strongest of characters, there's still power in Bruckner's...

October is here, and it’s always a good time for horror fans. And this year, we have the return of a few familiar faces. In David Bruckner’s remake/reboot of Hellraiser (read our review), the filmmaker takes the story in a new direction. This new take follows a troubled young woman, played by Odessa A’zion, who comes across the mysterious puzzle box. And yes, Pinhead (Jamie Clayton) and friends are back for a bit of Hell on Earth. The film also stars Adam Faison, Drew Starkey, Brandon Flynn, and Goran Visnjic. You can check out this modern take on Clive Barker’s classic tale today, available for streaming on Hulu.
We recently had the chance to speak with the cast of Hellraiser and the film’s director. First up, we spoke with a charming pair as both Goran Visnjic, and Hiam Abbass discussed their part in this new vision.

Warning: This interview contains spoilers for "Hellraiser."
Now on its 11th installment, the "Hellraiser" franchise has seen its fair share of interpretations and countless cast members -- including "Severance" and "Parks and Recreation" star Adam Scott, who appeared in 1996's "Hellraiser: Bloodline."
Director David Bruckner knew he was going to be swimming in some sacred waters when signing on to the new "Hellraiser," but some of the big creative swings he took resulted in some memorable characters that are welcome additions to the franchise's legacy. Jamie Clayton has been making waves as the first woman to perform the role of The Priest/Pinhead, and Odessa A'zion delivers a gut-wrenching portrayal as Riley, the protagonist who is forced to deal with interdimensional sex demons while also struggling with her own addiction issues.
While these two may be the faces of the "Hellraiser" marketing campaigns, the film also boasts a fantastic supporting...

Greater delights, also known as major spoilers for "Hellraiser," await you in this article.
After more than 20 years, the first "Hellraiser" movie to be given a major studio release has finally been unleashed. With most of the franchise being relegated to low-budget direct-to-video schlock, it is a breath of fresh air to see Pinhead and their gash of Cenobites return, even if we would have preferred to see them in theaters instead of on Hulu. However, that's beside the point, because what matters is that they are back in all their horrific glory.
"Hellraiser" does some pretty interesting things with the established lore of the franchise while also feeling like its own thing. Nowhere is this more apparent than the changes made to the franchise's famous box -- in David Bruckner's take, solving the box to total completion after five sacrifices will allow the user to be granted a wish.

The original Hellraiser explored the outer limits of pleasure and pain in fascinating, grotesque ways. Hulu’s 2022 reimagining of the Clive Barker classic, however, is simply painful. It takes the most surface-level aspects of the original story and gnarls them into a bloated, forgettable modern horror slog that fumbles the series’ mythology.
In broad strokes, the movie follows a bunch of supremely annoying twentysomethings as they run from an otherworldly evil, screaming at each other incessantly in an ear-splitting attempt to suss out what’s happening to them at any given moment. They act like complete idiots, and it’s incredibly hard to root for or relate to any of them when they’re perpetually in the throes of a screechy temper tantrum or complete emotional breakdown.
The connection to the original film is the lore, which revolves around the Cenobites, a group of horrifically mutilated beings whose entire existence...

So, we’re now officially a week into October. Ready for a spooky flick? Well most hardcore “horror hounds’ are game any time of the year, but this month is…special. And what better way to get “in the mood” than revisiting some iconic and shocking characters in a big reboot, though their creator calls this a “re-imagining”. Oh, and we’re not reaching back to the Universal icons of the 30s, 40s, and 50s. They skip a few decades to get into the scream kings (and queens) of the 70s and 80s. It just feels like all of them have gotten a nice new coat of gore. Hey, even Michael Meyers will be back in a week for his final rampage (heard that before). And much like Chucky,...

Renowned horror author and filmmaker Clive Barker has oft remarked about his directorial debut, Hellraiser, that he had virtually no idea what he was doing while making it, going as far as to say that if someone had shown him a plate of spaghetti and referred to it as a type of lens he would’ve believed them. Yet for whatever experience David Bruckner, director of this newfangled streaming reboot, may have, his invention doesn’t even begin comparing with the (literary) visionary of a novice like Barker.
Adapted from Barker’s own novella The Hellbound Heart, Hellraiser was a modest hit that spawned a ten-title franchise. And even if, between a number of non-theatrical releases, the Hellraiser brand doesn’t exactly promise quality, the blandness of this reboot feels like something of a disservice to the iconography and darker implications of a series that nonetheless retains a cultural footprint even 35 years later.
