Kristen Johnston will star alongside Leanne Morgan in the latter’s upcoming Netflix comedy series, Variety has learned.
The untitled multi-cam comedy was picked up at Netflix in April with a 16-episode order. Morgan co-created the series with Susan McMartin and Chuck Lorre. The role marks a reunion for Lorre and Johnston, as Johnston previously appeared in the CBS multi-cam “Mom,” which Lorre also co-created.
The official description for Morgan’s series states: “Leanne’s life takes an unexpected turn when her husband of 33 years leaves her for another woman. Starting over when you’re a grandmother and in menopause isn’t exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity and jello salad.”
Johnston will star in the series regular role of Carol, Leanne’s sister. The character is said to be Leanne’s complete opposite.

In an amusingly meta instance of sci-fi imitating sci-fi, “Orphan Black” is getting a futuristic sequel series before anyone has time enough to miss the original. That’s either a big mistake or more of a good thing in a booming genre that could almost always do with more feminist entries.
Set in the year 2052, “Orphan Black: Echoes” stars executive producer Krysten Ritter as an amnesiac woman named Lucy who we meet unraveling the insidious impacts of a mysterious procedure she doesn’t remember having. In a classic streaming age mess-around, the IP extension comes just seven years after the Canadian cult hit became a household name in made-for-tv cloning.

In what could have easily been the next season of “American Crime Story,” Lionsgate Television is diving into the gambling scandal that’s rocked Major League Baseball since March.
Lionsgate is developing a scripted series about how Shohei Ohtani, the Japanese superstar of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Angels, became the subject of massive fraud and theft at the hands of his longtime interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara. Just days ago, Mizuhara agreed to plead guilty to accusations he stole almost $17 million from Ohtani to pay off gambling debts.
Scott Delman (“Station Eleven”) will produce along with Albert Chen, a former senior editor with Sports Illustrated, MLB Network contributor, and the writer of “Billion Dollar Fantasy” about the battle between gambling apps DraftKings and FanDuel. No platform or creative talent is being announced at this stage. Executive Max Elins is overseeing the project for Lionsgate Television.

“True-crime podcasts aren’t journalism. They’re necrophilia.” So says Dove (Siobhan Cullen), an investigative reporter for The Guardian, whose disdain for professional podcasting would make even the most judgemental parent defend their child’s chosen “career.” Throughout “Bodkin,” a fictional Netflix mystery set in a fictional Irish town about its fishy, fictional residents (and fictional visiting reporters), Dove never misses an opportunity to rail against the hottest nonfiction genre of the last decade or so. At first, it’s hard to blame her. Certain true-crime podcasts, documentaries, and reports have faced criticism for years over unethical practices, whether it’s playing loosey-goosey with the facts, disrespecting victims’ privacy, or overextending its story for extra attention. Plus, after an untold number of narratives about missing kids and dead women, we’re overdue, as a culture, to pivot away from true crime and into something new. (Maybe toward truly funny comedies?...

In 2018, a study from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany reported that two-thirds of millennials don’t know what Auschwitz is. Tate Ellington had told us that the technical difficulties suffered by the team in the last episode would continue going forward, and TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the May 9 episode of Law & Order: Organized Crime shows just that. Jet (Ainsley Seiger) passes the laptop from the Boone farm to Vargas (Ellington). “If we can find a pattern in the heroin smuggling routes, maybe we can narrow down where and when the Emery shipment’s coming in,” she says. Then an Atf agent comes in to speak with Bell (Danielle Moné Truitt), but she quickly shuts him down when he starts talking about sharing information and being transparent in their joint operation. However, Vargas panicking—”This is not happening!”—puts a stop to that. Watch the full sneak peek above to find out how big of a problem this is. In “Goodnight,” Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Randall (Dean Norris...

When inspiration strikes artist Derek Eads, he’ll “run with it.” And this week, that creative spark came in the form of Saturday Night Live’s “The Anomalous Man.”
The black-and-white short set in Victorian London features Ms. Emily (host/musical guest Dua Lipa), a beautiful young woman who attends a play and is so moved by the writing that she requests to meet the writer. “I feel like our souls are one,” she explains, before being warned that she may be “shocked” by his appearance.
She’s introduced to the playwright, Peter (Sarah Sherman), who sits alone in the dark and describes himself as “a monster.” But Miss Emily is smitten, and boldly takes him into her home and her bed… which is when she hears his phone(s) blowing up with texts from other women. “Wash that ass,” “I’m trying to show you what this snout do,...

There’s been much hand-wringing about what comedians can and can’t say in the last few years, led by comedians who complain about the oppressiveness of so-called “cancel culture” even as they land specials on platforms as big as Netflix. Just last week, Jerry Seinfeld went one further, despairing to the New Yorker that there are virtually no shows like Cheers (that notoriously offensive series) or All in the Family anymore as “the result of the extreme left and P.C. crap, and people worrying so much about offending other people.”...

The nurse wants to grab a drink with Winston to get to know him better. Winston’s flattered but he holds off on the date. “My schedule’s a little crazy right now, but I’ll keep that in mind.” Thankfully, the nurse doesn’t see this as a total rejection. Kim Kardashian was met with resounding boos at Netflix’s roast of Tom Brady — but you’d never know it unless you watched it live.
The streamer has edited out the portion of the roast where Kardashian was booed, TVLine has confirmed. (The Hollywood Reporter first noted the change.) In Sunday’s original live broadcast, Kardashian was booed loudly as she took the stage at the roast, stopping midway through her first joke to glare at the crowd as several of her fellow roasters came to her defense. But in the version currently streaming on Netflix, the booing is nowhere to be found.

When Bodkin’s Gilbert (Will Forte), Dove (Siobhán Cullen), and Emmy (Robyn Cara) showed up in small-town Ireland to record a podcast, they knew they were chasing a great story — but they didn’t know just how many threads they’d have to follow to one fateful fall night two decades ago.
So what, exactly, did happen in this quiet seaside town? And how in the world are yoga-teaching nuns, Interpol, smugglers, a sunken car, and a whole lot of eels involved?

As soon as you think you have a handle on it, there’s another twist, there’s another turn, there’s a red herring, and the rug is pulled from underneath you. For years, the Wilking sisters were inseparable. Passionate about dance since childhood, Miranda and Melanie found success as a duo on social media, raking in millions of TikTok followers and lucrative brand partnerships. In 2019, however, Miranda started spending more time with members of her church-affiliated talent management company that represented her, pulling away from her close-knit family. Eventually, she cut off contact with them completely, leading her loved ones to believe there was more happening behind the scenes.
Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult, a new documentary series directed by Derek Doneen, tells Miranda’s story — and the story of many other dancers who, like her, ended up ensnared within Los Angeles–based 7M Films management company under owner Robert Shinn, who is also a pastor at the Shekinah Church. Both former 7M employees and church members have accused Shinn of controlling behavior.

Horror takes a back seat to passion in AMC’s ravishingly voluptuous adaptation of Anne Rice’s Gothic masterpiece Interview with the Vampire. Elegant and literate even at its most ghoulish, the seductive second season even adds a theatrical flourish to its bag of dazzling tricks. “Are you kidding me?” scoffs the all-too-mortal interviewer, Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian). “It’s a telenovela!” he barks, when the undead Louis de Pointe du Lac (suave Jacob Anderson) reaches a particularly florid twist in his story of nocturnal searching and yearning. The new chapter takes him and his eternally young and hormonally frustrated “daughter” Claudia to Europe, fleeing New Orleans and the chaos that appears to have claimed Louis’ centuries-old lover Lestat (Sam Reid). We first encounter them amid the carnage of human warfare in World War II, exploring their ancestral lands and seeking evidence of their kind while feeding on the flesh of soldiers.
