Thanks to last year’s Writers Guild of America strike and Days of our Lives’ unique shooting schedule, head writer Ron Carlivati’s new material will only first begin airing on May 31. Unlike most soaps, which are filmed weeks ahead of the air date, the Peacock-airing drama is seven months ahead, so when Carlivati and his team resumed their official duties in October, the stories were already written well into 2024. “The other shows were able to put it behind them quicker,” begins Carlivati. “For me, as of us talking right now, the [replacement writers’ material] is still airing, so that has been very tough. I’m just very anxious and eager for our stuff to start airing again.” When the strike began in May 2023, Carlivati and his team had written through Thanksgiving. “I think some people think that I left some sort of road map that these people were following, and that is really not true,...

“There’s a wonderful thing that happened when MoviePass went away.”
It’s an odd thing for the founder of MoviePass to say, but Stacy Spikes told IndieWire as much. That’s because in the wake of the spectacular crash and burn of his subscription movie-ticketing company, numerous copycats and in-house loyalty programs quickly tried to re-create what Spikes built.
“You had a lot of people introduced to subscription models, [which] validated that subscription models work, and that consumers like them,” Spikes said.
After MoviePass shuttered in 2019 — then under the leadership of Mitch Lowe and Ted Farnsworth after Spikes had been pushed out in 2017 — Spikes re-acquired the MoviePass brand in an auction and relaunched the company in 2022, hoping to build back his baby’s name after the former CEOs caused so much ill will.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Bridgerton Season 3 Part 1.] Bridgerton‘s third season may still be ongoing as fans await Part 2’s arrival, but it’s clear that this latest chapter has already broken the formula previously explored in past seasons with the main couple — Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin (Luke Newton), a.k.a. Polin — declaring their love for one another before the second half of the season. While some fans have voiced their feelings about the quick turnaround in the couple’s romance, it’s a stretch to suggest it was rushed. Unlike previous seasons, there was no need to build a dynamic between Colin and Penelope as they’ve existed together in this TV universe since Season 1. Unlike the romances between Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page), and Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley), both Colin and Penelope have a years-long friendship by the start of Season 3, making the seemingly quick...

[Warning: The following post contains discussions of sexual assault.] Delainey Hayles‘ Claudia revealed harrowing details about her time away from Louis (Jacob Anderson) and Lestat (Sam Reid) in Interview With the Vampire Season 2 Episode 3, “No Pain.” In “No Pain,” Claudia briefly reveals dark truths about what she endured while held captive by the vampire Bruce (Damon Daunno) years prior. She and Louis have been telling the coven that Bruce was their maker, not Lestat, and that he killed himself in front of them, prompting their journey to Europe to find more bloodsuckers. She revealed physical attributes that only she could know to Louis to help keep their story straight, and she eventually detailed the more horrific abuse she suffered at the vampire’s hands. Hayles tells TV Insider that this is Claudia desperately seeking connection with Louis. “She is in a way begging him to ask her more about herself because he never really does that,” she says. Bret Easton Ellis’ series at HBO is inching closer to reality. HBO has tapped Kristoffer Borgli to direct the series adaptation of the Ellis book “The Shards.”
Borgli, who directed last year’s “Dream Scenario” starring Nicolas Cage and 2022’s “Sick of Myself,” is attached to direct and serve as an executive producer on the series that’s currently in development at HBO.
Ellis published “The Shards” just last year, and the series per its official logline is “set in the early ’80s and tracks a group of privileged Los Angeles High School friends as a serial killer strikes across the city.”
But what makes “The Shards” ripe for an adaptation is that it’s a pulpy and sexy yet sprawling and unwieldy piece of fiction featuring much of Ellis’ own biography. While it follows the murders of a serial killer known as The Trawler with great detail, it also...

Since Maya Erskine burst onto our televisions in 2019 as a 31-year-old actress playing the socially inept 13-year-old Maya Ishii-Peters on Hulu’s “Pen15” (she also co-created the raucous show), her comedic path seemed a clear one. But then earlier this year, she switched it up with the very adult role of intrepid spy Jane Smith, whose cover is to be married for better or for worse to fellow spy John Smith (Donald Glover) in Amazon Prime Video’s action-drama “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Some may call the genre swap a 180-turn, but Erskine doesn’t see the leap as gargantuan.

To mark Dylan’s 83rd birthday, Johnson brought his impression of the legendary singer/songwriter to Washington Square Park.
“Made up a Theme Time Radio Hour segment for Bob Dylan’s Birthday at Washington Square park,” Johnson wrote on Instagram alongside a clip of the performance. Theme Time Radio Hour was a radio show Dylan hosted on Xm Satellite Radio from 2006-2009.
In the clip, Johnson-as-Dylan waxes reflective on summer staples like baseball games, suntan lotion, and carnivals—alongside SNL writer Mike Dicenzo and accompanied by musician Matt Sucich on guitar.

Elsbeth may follow a character who previously recurred on The Good Wife and The Good Fight, but there’s little connection to the previous two series. Sure, Cary Agos (who was played by Matt Czuchry) was mentioned in the series premiere, as someone who could come in and replace Elsbeth (Carrie Preston), but that was it. Could that change in Season 2? “People keep saying, are you going to have guest stars from The Good Wife? I mean, we’re in a different city. [Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Sympathizer finale.] The Sympathizer delivered one last Robert Downey Jr. character in its grueling finale on Sunday, May 26. David Letterman’s TV shows may have straightforward names—Late Night, Late Show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction—but the production companies behind them are some of the most creatively named in the biz.
Throughout his career, Letterman has given his companies wonderfully incongruous names. At a screening last week for the new documentary Maestra—executive produced by David Letterman under his “Worldwide Pants” banner—the host reminisced about some of the names he’s created for the sake of, well, funny business.
“A long time ago when I left Indiana and got into big-time adult show business, people said, ‘You gotta get names for these phony corporations to dodge taxes,’” Letterman recalled. “So I just started making up crazy names. We had ‘Cardboard Shoe,’ and we had ‘United States Chemical Cheese.’”
Indeed, Cardboard Shoe Productions is credited on his 1986 NBC special David Letterman’s 2nd Annual Holiday Film Festival.

As reported by Heavy, the family ended up being trapped inside a closet, fearing for their safety. The incident was so frightening that their youngest child, Luke, was “terrified” and vomited twice “out of fear.” Though the weather had been forecasted to be stormy, the family could not have prepared for what actually transpired. Are you optimistic about the Dallas Cowboys 2024 NFL season? Well, recent history suggests you probably shouldn’t be. (Giants fan over here.) But there is something exciting leading in to the summer’s Dallas Cowboys training camp: a new cheerleading docuseries from director Greg Whiteley, the man behind Netflix’s “Cheer” and “Last Chance U.”
“America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders,” a collection of seven 45-minute episodes, will follow the squad from start to finish — meaning from their auditions to the team’s inevitable late-regular-season or early-post-season collapse. The cheerleaders are led by their longtime director Kelli Finglass.
The docuseries, which is definitely not “Cheer” Season 3 (except it definitely should be), premieres on June 20 on Netflix.
Whiteley executive produces alongside Adam Leibowitz for One Potato Productions; Andrew Fried and Dane Lillegard of Boardwalk Pictures and Ross M. Dinerstein and Rebecca Evans of Campfire Studios also executive produce for their respective companies.

TV audiences tracked down “Tracker” in a big way this season. The freshman CBS drama, which stars Justin Hartley as a survivalist who helps law enforcement and others solve tough cases, was the 2023-24 TV season’s most-watched entertainment series. According to the Eye network, that’s the first time a first-year TV series was ranked as the No. 1 show since “Survivor” premiered as an instant phenomenon in 2000.

Twice a year, television journalists gather in a hotel ballroom in Pasadena, Calif. while networks and studios preview their upcoming slates. It's a phenomenon known within the industry as the Television Critics Association press tour and at this February's gathering, there was one moment in particular that caused the room to collectively gasp: the reveal of the extended Interview With the Vampire Season 2 trailer. The preview was stunning in spectacle and an excellent showcase of what is coming down the pipe in the upcoming season, but the generator of most of the excitement was the blink-and-you'll-miss-it glimpse at Justin Kirk in the new footage.

Robert Smigel has been responsible for some of the most memorable and inspired late-night TV of the last four decades. From his long association with Saturday Night Live, to his creative partnership with Conan O’Brien, the man who gives voice to Triumph the Insult Comic Dog is a late night hall of famer if ever there was one.
In this episode of Inside Late Night, Smigel joins Mark Malkoff for a free-flowing conversation about his many years at 30 Rock, from the origins of two Steve Martin sketches that are among his proudest, to the time he says Lorne Michaels forgave him for “almost breaking” the show.
The two also discuss the evolution of the Late Night with Conan O’Brien remote, the art of the pre-show audience warm-up and how it contributed to Conan making Late Night his own, backstage tensions at SNL, and more.

Pat Sajak is just days away from retirement, but that doesn’t mean Wheel of Fortune contestants are going easy on him, as the host found out the hard way on Friday’s (May 24) episode. During Friday’s game, Michael Bystrzycki, a master electrician from Drummonds, Tennessee, faced off against Sarah McCabe, a former English teacher from Mankato, Minnesota, and Lillian Devane, a self-described “word nerd” from Atlantic City, New Jersey. The funny moment came during a Crossword puzzle in the $2K Toss-Up round, where the players had to figure out the four interconnected words, all of which had “fire” as the first part. Bystrzycki had control of the wheel and looked like he was about to attempt to solve the puzzle before suddenly backtracking and choosing to spin again. Unfortunately, he landed on the Bankrupt wedge and lost everything. Thankfully, the round continued, and Bystrzycki got another turn. This time,...

Jim Parsons recently said goodbye to Sheldon Cooper for a second time as Young Sheldon aired its series finale on May 16, but he isn’t entirely closing the door on the beloved character. Speaking with E! News in a recent interview, Parsons was asked what it would take for him to reprise the role of Sheldon. “Reincarnation,” he quipped. “Next lifetime.” However, while the Emmy-winning actor has put Sheldon on the shelf for now, he did say, “Never say never to anything. Life is long, God-willing, but I don’t think so.” Parsons portrayed the quirky theoretical physicist across 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory from 2007 to 2019, winning four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series Musical or Comedy. He went on to serve as narrator for the prequel series Young Sheldon, in which...

Jeopardy! champ Amar Kakirde kept his winning streak alive on Monday night (May 27) when he won his fourth consecutive game, putting him one victory away from a guaranteed spot in the next Tournament of Champions. However, fans have pointed out that Kakirde has one of the lowest four-day cash totals in the game show’s history. He came into Monday’s game with a three-day total of $41,399 and added an extra $14,500 after defeating Ryan Alcorn, a product manager originally from Needham, Massachusetts, and Tim Keily, a search & rescue pilot from Sitka, Alaska. “How much does Amar’s four day cash total compare to four+game champions of the past? I imagine it’s definitely gotta be on the far lower end of four day cash winnings throughout the show’s history,” asked a user on the Jeopardy! Reddit forum. Another fan responded that since May 24, 2010 (including the current Toc cycle...

The CW’s All American celebrated a monumental milestone on Monday night (May 27) as the show reached 100 episodes, a huge accomplishment in the current ever-changing television landscape. Titled “100%,” the episode was directed by series star Daniel Ezra, who plays Spencer James, and saw a nostalgic trip down memory lane as Spencer revisited all the football fields he’d ever played on. Some old friends also joined him along the way. Speaking to Deadline, Ezra said showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll called him about directing the milestone episode, noting that it was a no-brainer decision. “[Carroll] called me to say, ‘So this season we’re going to hit our 100th episode. We think it’s only fitting that you direct it.’ But she warned me, ‘It’s going to be a lot of work. There is no scenario where you’re going to be light in that episode,'” Ezra recalled. Ezra,...

Traditional law enforcement partners or unorthodox private investigator team-ups (or a mix of the two) are a beloved TV staple, regardless of whether the detective story is based on a real-life case or even in a supernatural setting. Given the popularity of this genre and the ubiquity of these types of stories, adding a new spin to the favored format is tricky. Fortunately, Eric creator Abi Morgan defies this challenge, offering a fresh perspective beyond the missing child case at its center. While the depiction of 1980s New York may not break the mold in its portrayal of a city in disarray, the approach to the overlapping conflicts and the exploration of mental health sets this series apart — even when it overstuffs the narrative.
