Some breaking news from Westeros: The Game of Thrones prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has added a major talent from Black Mirror to serve as its debut season’s lead director, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Owen Harris has boarded the HBO drama as an executive producer and will also direct the first three episodes, establishing the directorial vision for the series. Harris is best known for helming two of Black Mirror‘s finest episodes — “Be Right Back” and the widely acclaimed “San Junipero.”
In addition, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms‘ episode count has now been revealed: The first season will be six episodes, making for a tighter opener than the 10-episode first seasons of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. The run time seems appropriate given Knight is an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s 160-page novella The Hedge Knight rather than one of his 900-page epic novels.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for FBI: International Season 3 Episode 11 “Touts.”] The Fly Team is saying goodbye to its boss after the latest FBI: International episode, so how was Scott Forrester (Luke Kleintank) written out? The short answer is simple: He wasn’t. Instead, the episode is very much about Smitty (Eva-Jane Willis) and her family, with the case bringing her back in contact with her mother (Pippa Haywood) and eventually leading to a major revelation: Her biological father is her mother’s friend Niall (Patrick Bergin). For Forrester, meanwhile, it’s very much business as usual, trying to get information out of MI5 for the case. There isn’t any kind of exit or even hint as to what will take him away from the Fly Team (which leads us to believe that our last theory here could hold water). But this tracks with what Willis had told TV Insider ahead of the episode. She said that it ...

Following the murder of a former member of the Irish Republican Army (Ira)-turned-u.S. citizen, the Fly Team investigates, and Smitty reunites with her mother (Pippa Haywood), whose friend Niall (Patrick Bergin) ends up being vital to the case (and Smitty). He wears a wire to get their suspect to admit to the crimes, that he gave Smitty her nickname (she was obsessed with Smarties when she was 3 but called them Smitties), and turns out to be her biological father, as she realizes on her own and has him confirm. Below, Willis discusses that shocking reveal, finding out how her character got her nickname, and more, and teases the last two episodes of the season. (This was also Luke ...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Resident Alien Season 3 finale, “Homecoming.”] The future of Syfy‘s beloved comedy Resident Alien is unclear. The series, which aired its Season 3 finale on April 3, has yet to be renewed for Season 4. It might experience a network change in order to save it, but that could come at a cost. Well, a decrease in cost. The powers that be at NBCUniversal are reportedly considering moving Resident Alien from Syfy to its sister channel, USA Network, according to Deadline. A fourth season at Syfy is reportedly not likely. As it stands, USA only has one scripted TV series, Chucky, and it’s shared with Syfy. If the Alan Tudyk-led comedy were to move to USA, it’s possible that its budget would be drastically reduced to as little as $500,000 per episode, Deadline reports. The production behind Resident Alien, UCP, part of Universal Studio Group, reportedly wants to keep the series...

Jeopardy! fans weren’t the only ones who noticed a larger-than-usual number of triple-stumper clues in the Tuesday, May 7 episode. The winner of that night’s game told viewers on the Jeopardy! It’s lucky, in that case, that her win allows her to play again and try to redeem herself. Playing in this installment were returning champ Matthew Smith, a paramedic from New York, New York; Allison Gross, a data scientist from Cleveland, Ohio; and Daniel King, a Brown University graduate from Parsippany, New Jersey. Their scores were pretty neck-and-neck by the time of the first break, but Gross took the lead by the end of the first round. John Mulaney’s weeklong new show, Everybody’s in LA, isn’t technically a “late-night” show, though it is live globally on Netflix, which means it’s on in late night somewhere, even if’s really late, like in London or Paris.
Speaking of which, Monday night’s show even went live to a group of viewers watching the show (or not) somewhere in Paris, where it would have been a little after 4 Am.
But mainly, this seems like a late-night show because it looks, feels, and sounds like a late-night show: host, monologue, guests, couch, pre-taped segments, music guest to close. As the old saying goes: “If it quacks like a duck…”
In this case, honks like a goose might be more appropriate. So far this show is setting some kind of new standard for being as loosey/goosey as a gaggle in flight.

The offices of Jimmy Kimmel Live! must be abuzz today.
For the second time in less than a week, Jimmy Kimmel and his late-night show were brought up in former President Donald Trump’s ongoing hush money trial.
Stormy Daniels took the stand at Trump’s trial today, where she was asked during her testimony about her January 2018 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
It was in that interview that Kimmel brought up a letter Daniels had allegedly signed denying she had an affair with Trump. When Kimmel asked whether the signature was authentic, Daniels gave a cagey reply that implied that it wasn’t.
Kimmel’s interview was first brought up in court on May 2nd when the prosecution entered into evidence text messages that Trump’s then-attorney Michael Cohen sent to Stormy Daniels’ lawyer Keith Davidson. In the texts, Cohen reacted with concern to Daniels’ appearance on Kimmel’s show.

Chicago Fire is losing another original cast member. Eamonn Walker, who has starred as Wallace Boden since the series premiere, will be leaving the NBC drama in the Season 12 finale, according to Deadline. It said to be his decision, and there is some good news: According to the report, we don’t have to worry about him dying in a season-ending emergency and he “is expected” to be back on a recurring basis. This does make it sound like the once Battalion Chief and now Deputy District Chief may very well be the next Deputy Commissioner. He is on the shortlist for the gig, and according to the logline for the May 22 final, “Never Say Goodbye”—in which he’ll appear, following Boden taking time off to help his stepson—he will be making a decision that impacts the race for that position. One way to explain his absence at...

The Dance Moms stars have a love-hate relationship with the pyramid. Abby Lee Miller notoriously ranked her Aldc dancers on her infamous pyramid during the Lifetime show’s run. She would start at the bottom and work her way to the top, while her dancers waited to see where they would place. The soundbite has since become a viral TikTok meme. Now, the stars of the reality series are putting some much-needed fun into the pyramid ranking. Dance Moms alums Kalani Hilliker, Brooke Hyland, Paige Hyland, and Kendall Vertes stopped by TV Insider’s studio to chat about the Dance Moms reunion and do a pyramid ranking of notable dance movies. Right away, the girls place the 2000 cult classic Center Stage at the bottom of the pyramid. “You were good, but I’m waiting for you to be great,” Kendall says, echoing Abby’s words. “Girls5eva” deserves to be heard. Yes, the laugh-out-loud comedy, from the minds of Tina Fey, Robert Carlock, creator Meredith Scardino and others, is funny. The music industry is wickedly skewered. The music, led by Jeff Richmond, is clever and catchy.
But really, the heart of the show comes from its stars — Sara Bareilles, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Busy Philipps and Paula Pell — and the characters they play. These are women of a certain age who are rediscovering their voices and finally taking on their dreams, after years of settling for something less.

Two roads diverged when one man — scientist Jason Desson (played by Joel Edgerton) — chose to start a family instead of pursuing his professional research in quantum mechanics. Apple TV+‘s Dark Matter, an adrenaline-pumping, thought-provoking, nine-episode sci-fi thriller based on Blake Crouch’s 2016 bestselling novel, explores the resulting alternative lives Jason has, based on that decision he made so many years earlier. While “Jason 1,” a comfortable family man, works as a physics professor for a lower-tier Chicago community college and happily resides with ex-artist wife Daniela (Snowpiercer’s Jennifer Connelly) and their teenaged son Charlie (Oakes Fegley), “Jason 2” reaches incredible career heights, wins the most prestigious scientific awards — and builds a dimension-hopping metal box. Jason 2 then uses that box to abduct Jason 1, sending his unsuspecting alter-ego into that lonely, but successful life, so that Jason 2 may infiltrate the family he never got to have. “That tension between the family life and the work life,...

For a certain sector of TV watchers, “Schmigadoon!” was a glorious gift from heaven, an homage to and sly sendup of musicals from Broadway’s golden age in Season 1 and musicals from the darker and seedier ’70s and ’80s in Season 2. Then, Apple TV+ canceled the comedy, and TV got a little less weird and fun.
Now comes word that the musical — which starred Keegan Michael-Key and Cecily Strong as a couple who, first accidentally and then intentionally, land in a world where everyone lives up to the standards of musical theater convention — will make its live-action debut at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., in January 2025, directed and choreographed by the series’ choreographer, Christopher Gattelli with a book, music, and lyrics by series creator Cinco Paul.
In a review of Season 1, IndieWire’s Kristen Lopez wrote, “’Schmigadoon’ is a gamble, but it’s one I hope pays off.

Carrie Coon is confused and under the weather, though the two don’t appear to be connected. At the tail end of her March press tour for “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” the Emmy- and Tony-nominated actor caught a bug akin to bronchitis. “I don’t know if it’s bronchitis,” Coon said over Zoom. “I’m being dramatic… but that’s my job!”
Bronchitis or not, confusion isn’t one of her symptoms. It’s the result of a particularly complicated Emmy season. Typically held each September — a tradition that strains logic in and of itself, since no one really follows the old fall-to-spring broadcast television calendar anymore — the Emmys will be held twice in 2024. The 75th Primetime Emmys took place in January, after the original date in 2023 was pushed back to accommodate the WGA and SAG strikes, and the 76th Primetime Emmys are scheduled for September. You have about a month left to steal “Loki” from your sister’s Disney+ account. And don’t count on Dr. Stephen Strange to roll back time on this one.
As previously announced, the Disney+ password-sharing crackdown will start in June “in very select markets,” Disney CEO Bob Iger reiterated on Tuesday. It’s an unpopular move, sure, but a “necessary and very, very productive” one in the race to catch Netflix, Iger said. Aw, that’s sweet: he still thinks Disney+ has a chance.
Iger, on a Tuesday conference call tied to quarterly earnings, called Netflix “the gold standard when it comes to streaming,” but added that Disney’s content stacks up “really well” vs. Netflix. What doesn’t stack up is the tech stack.
It is a head start on streaming technology that separates Netflix from the pack, Iger said, which is why the industry leader has industry-leading margins.
