Every so often, a pitch for a television show that never got off the ground leaks onto the internet. More often than not, it’s an original idea; other times, it’s a pitch to revive an older intellectual property. Well, this has just happened when a pitch bible for a reboot of the classic Disney One Saturday Morning cartoon Recess was discovered.
For those who may not remember, Recess was a series created by Paul Germain and Joe Ansolabehere in 1997 for Disney’s One Saturday Morning block. The show followed a group of six friends, all fourth graders, enjoying that special time of day: Recess. The show not only gave us fun adventures with the gang but also commentary on society and social norms through the eyes of a child.
The series ran from 1997 to 2001 and had 65 episodes. It concluded with the theatrical film Recess: School’s Out in 2001 and a handful of direct-to-video specials.

If you want to watch Charlie Barnett star in a Leslye Headland show about complex people navigating sci-fi constructs, you now have multiple choices – the Russian Doll star has followed that series’ creator into The Acolyte. This time, he’s not stuck in a time loop, but instead plays highly-strung Jedi Knight Yord Fandar, unravelling the Force-centric murder-mystery at the core of Headland’s Star Wars show.

Matthew 25: 35-40 in the Bible says that giving to the unhoused is akin to giving to the lord directly: “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” For Angel Studios, the distributor hopes its unique style of generosity toward its top filmmaker will be a benefit unto themselves as well.
Angel Studios has a 10-year overall film deal in place with Alejandro Monteverde, the director of last year’s “Sound of Freedom” and this year’s “Cabrini,” to direct and produce at least five more theatrical films. Film distributor Uncork’d Entertainment has acquired the documentary “The Mandela Effect Phenomenon” from writer-director Robert Kiviat. Uncork’d plans a July 9 digital release.
The Mandela Effect refers to the psychological phenomenon of a group of people misremembering well-documented facts or events. Some take this a step further and assume their confusion stems from the truths of other realities entering their own. The phrase “Mandela Effect” was coined by paranormal researcher Fiona Broome, who in 2009, thought former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela had died in prison when he had been released in 1990.
“The Mandela Effect Phenomenon” zeros in on those who believe the sensation stems from supernatural intervention. According to the official logline, the documentary claims “something mind-blowing is happening where half the world’s population swear reality’s been altered, like they come from another timeline. Millions claim movies are different, and TV show titles, celebrities’ names, logos and brands,...

The Big Door Prize season 2, episode 8, doesn’t necessarily focus on any one character in the show. I suppose that’s what makes the title so accurate. “Our Town,” as it’s named after the play by the American playwright Thornton Wilder, focuses on a lot of members of the Deerfield population, just as the play does. Also, the kids finally get to put on their play for the whole town. The episode is wholesome as always, and we get to see a lot of characters embrace change while others struggle to understand what they’re really looking for. The episode does also focus on Father Reuben, though not in the obvious ways we saw some other characters in other episodes. We finally get to learn about his vision and how he might find his footing as a changed human.

It might be too on-the-nose to call Saved! a minor miracle of a movie, but how else would you describe Brian Dannelly’s faith-centric satire? Since it was released in arthouses and multiplexes 20 years ago this week, it’s remained one of the few teenage comedies brave enough to explore and critique the contemporary Christian high school experience without relying on broad fundamentalist humor, cheap caricatures, or treacly after-school messaging. Within modern Hollywood, it felt––and still feels––like a true outlier, a nuanced slice of religious life with a surprisingly deep roster of young indie talents that its creator still can’t believe was even made.
Set at a Christian high school, Saved! stars Jena Malone as 17-year-old Mary, a born-again believer who offers up her virginity to convert her gay boyfriend Dean (Chad Faust). The plan ultimately fails––Dean is sent to conversion therapy and Mary gets pregnant,...

Sufjan Stevens’ Seven Swans and his music as a whole is beloved by hipsters who may not have paid attention in Sunday School (if they even attended it). Here’s a look at the Bible story that inspired the track “Abraham” from Seven Swans. It’s a morally complex tale that has been interpreted differently by Jews and Christians.
Sufjan Steven’s ‘Seven Swans’ references an attempted child sacrifice from the Bible
In the Book of Genesis, God blesses the prophet Abraham with a son named Isaac in his old age. Subsequently, God asks Abraham to execute Isaac. Abraham binds his own son in preparation for a human sacrifice, and an angel tells him that the Lord was merely testing his faith by asking him to sacrifice Isaac. The Lord blesses Abraham and he sacrifices a ram, rather than his son, to the divine. Christians often interpret this story as...

The biggest issue with Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead is perhaps the title itself. Otherwise, I don’t have much of a problem with this film. Puritans might find the very idea of a remake blasphemous, but I don’t mind them as long as they’re something like the recent “Roadhouse.” The 2024 remake of the film has a lot going in its favor. The story gets a necessary Gen-z update; the lead character (and her family) being black adds value to the whole thing, and the performance of the young cast is very much on point. As this is basically a feel-good teen comedy, it has a pretty conclusive and expectedly happy ending. You still might have questions about the babysitter, even though the film seems to be least bothered by her death—just saying!

Counting On alum Josh Duggar has been taking steps to overturn his Csam case. The 36-year-old was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison. Several members of the Duggar family have agreed to their brother’s punishments, while others continue to believe that he’s innocent. Keep reading to see what happened.
Counting On: Josh Duggar Files New Appeal
In February, Josh filed a certiorari to the Supreme Court. It’s a request to have a higher court review a decision made by a lower court. When the very first Mad Max movie was released in 1979, no one could have predicted the heights to which the franchise would climb. Since then, there have been six feature-length films, and the franchise has also branched out into other forms of media, such as comics and video games.
With the release of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, George Miller has been asked a lot about the movie and the future of the franchise. One question asked was whether he ever envisioned another video game for the franchise, and Miller said it could only be done by a very specific person.
Mad Max Director George Miller Trusts Hideo Kojima Implicitly Mad Max 2015 did not sit well with Miller.
The release of Mad Max: Fury Road led to the launch of the Mad Max game. You would not have been faulted for dismissing the title as just another movie spin-off, as those games are rarely good.

I'll say one thing for the show's writers: They picked the perfect title for Pretty Little Liars: Summer School Season 1 Episode 4.
The deaths have just about slowed to a complete stop in the latest episode, with Bloody Rose seemingly intent on tormenting and torturing the girls with the subtle tactic of spamming their phones.
With the moms' complete and total absence, it's safe to say that Pretty Little Liars: Summer School will revolve solely around the girls and their misdeeds.
If that is the case, it would appear that the killer this season may not have any ties to the girls or the Waters family.
Mere hours after Mouse got attacked by a homicidal maniac, we left word for Sullivan, and then she got into an accident. No, not suspicious at all.

For anyone who watches The Way Home, the concept of juggling different time periods is a familiar challenge. This complexity is also felt by the show’s creators. During an FYC panel on May 8, the showrunners discussed the challenges they face in maintaining coherence across timelines. Heather Conkie shared, We start at the end and then kind of work backward. We had a wonderful plan right from the start when Marly Reed created the show and wrote a beautiful bible for it. Alex and I were just so lucky to be part of it and develop it. The team indeed

Spoilers for "X-Men '97" follow.
Rejoice, my X-Fans, for your theories have prevailed.
The "X-Men '97" season 1 finale, the three-part epic "Tolerance is Extinction," ended in shocking fashion. The big bad Bastion sent Asteroid M on a collision course with Earth, deciding to force humanity into extinction rather than evolution. Professor X, unable to not see the good in Magneto, even after his frenemy's torturous attack on Wolverine, pulls Erik back to the light with a telepathic therapy session. The X-Men, once more including Magneto, save the world. But then they vanish, pulled through time to the past, future (Cyclops and Jean), and parts unrevealed. The past X-Men, stranded in Egypt, circa 3000 BC, meet a grey-skinned mutant that fans will certainly recognize.
As is Marvel tradition, there's also post-credits scene revealing that, while the X-Men are scattered across time, an old foe is rearing his head. In the present, En Sabah Nur's future self,...

When Liane (Malou Khebizi), the protagonist of Agathe Riedinger’s stylish debut feature Wild Diamond (Diamant Brut), says that she will be the French Kim Kardashian, it sounds more like a prophecy than a desire.
The 19-year-old waitress from Fréjus is obsessed with fame and beauty. She scrupulously saved her paychecks to get breast augmentation surgery. She had a friend inject hyaluronic acid into her lips to plump them. Now she has her sights set on getting a Bbl. Liane chronicles her body modifications on Instagram, where her thousands of followers leave adoring comments that she repurposes as daily affirmations. “I’m not like everyone else,” Liane says throughout the film to the skeptics and doubters.
Premiering in competition at Cannes, Wild Diamond is Riedinger’s compassionate contribution to the “perils-of-social-media-and-fame” genre. The film expands on themes first explored in the director’s 2017 short Waiting for Jupiter, which followed a young woman,...

Review: Note – This Was Reviewed At TIFF 2023. There’s at least one thing about Harmony Korine‘s Aggro Dr1ft that’s amazing: the fact that being shot in infrared isn’t the most obnoxious thing about this 80-minute endurance test. It’s not much of a film but rather purely experimental fare that Korine could have released online rather than at a major film festival. Many have pointed out that it plays like a cutscene from Grand Theft Auto, where it is directed in infrared by a horny, none-too-bright teenager obsessed with the imagery for nineties gangster rap videos. This is a movie where the bad guy goes on for minutes swinging swords repeating “dance b*tch, dance” over and over (and over) again.

Amy Adams has been in development with Nightbitch for over a year, but details have now started to surface as the neo-horror film has recently released a new poster from Searchlight Pictures. The film has been written and directed by Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), Nightbitch is based on a novel by Rachel Yoder. The film will tell the story of “a suburban mom thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler. As she embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, she becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a dog.”
Adams plays that possibly canine housewife. Scoot McNairy (Monsters) is also in the cast, playing her “oft-traveling husband,” while Mary Holland, who is best known for appearing in the Netflix release Senior Year and for co-writing and co-starring in Clea DuVall’s romantic comedy Happiest Season, takes on an unspecified role.

"Carrie" is the book that put Stephen King on the map. When King wrote it, he was struggling financially, eking out a living selling short stories and teaching high school. Then he sat down to write what was first a short story that turned into a novella that turned into a novel. The novel was "Carrie," the story of a bullied teenage girl with telekinesis. The book wasn't a blockbuster when it was published in hardcover, but by the time it hit paperback, it flew off the shelves and King was on his way to becoming one of the best-selling novelists of all time. Sure enough, Hollywood came calling. The book was published in 1974, and by 1976, Brian De Palma's dreamy film adaptation arrived in theaters, starring Sissy Spacek as poor, doomed Carrie White, a girl who is tormented by pretty much everyone, including her Bible-loving mother (played by Piper Laurie) and her classmates.

“Mad Max” superfan and creator of the “Metal Gear” and “Death Stranding” video game series Hideo Kojima has seen the new film “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” and his reaction does not disappoint. Posting to X, formerly known as Twitter, Kojima released pictures of himself from the theater — his eyes misty from the experience.
“Witnessed ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga!’ Kojima said in his post. “This movie, which easily surpasses ‘Mad’ and even past ‘Fury’, is at its ‘Max’ (masterpiece)! Ever since I saw the first film when I was 16 years old, George Miller has saved me, encouraged me, and changed my way of life countless times. He is my God, and the Saga that he tells is my Bible.”
This is not the first time Kojima has expressed his adulation for maestro George Miller. Back when they met in 2015, he said, “My games were made with a lot of genes inherited from George Miller.

It is often an agreement between veteran directors that the usage of CGI should be kept to a minimum when creating cinematic movies. Director George Miller who directed both Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and the 1982 film Mad Max 2 or The Road Warrior, seems to agree with these statements.
Relying mostly on stunt people and real explosions for his movies, Miller is known for the iconic Mad Max franchise. In an interview, the director revealed that if the 1980s had the technology of today, his stuntmen and women would have been much safer.
