At this point, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Mariska Hargitay are almost synonymous, as one cannot exist without the other. While Hargitay will likely be fine career-wise once the show is over, Svu will not survive a single season without its 25-year-old leading lady on set.
While some fans feel that the show that has lasted so long can just wrap it up and become a nice distant memory, others want it to reinvent itself in a different version. And considering how much NBC makes off of Dick Wolf's franchises, that is a very realistic possibility.
Does Svu Have a Spinoff?
Even though the spinoff to a spinoff isn't a very popular concept, Law & Order: Svu, which is now so popular that it almost stands alone next to the whole bunch of other Law & Order shows, won't be the first to try it. The CBS sitcom Young Sheldon,...

AMC Networks is well-positioned to capitalize on the trend of traditional cable companies moving away from expensive sports- and news-inclusive packages toward “skinny” bundles that offer general entertainment and lifestyle programs, executives confirmed this month.
The company is also encouraged by some of its industry peers who have started bundling their offers with competitors, including a recently-announced Disney bundle that will bring together Disney Plus, Hulu and Warner Bros Discovery’s Max, the executives affirmed on a conference call with investors following AMC Networks’ quarterly earnings report.
AMC Networks was one of the first companies to embrace the idea of bundling its AMC Plus streaming service with a competitor, offering a package deal through Amazon’s Prime Video Channels marketplace where customers could select from a bundle that paired AMC Plus with Lionsgate’s Starz or Amazon’s own MGM Plus (formerly Epix). Exclusive: Jake Borelli will be departing ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy after seven years on the show, including being a series regular for the past five seasons, Deadline has learned. According to sources, Borelli is in negotiations to return next season for several episodes to wrap up the story of his character, Levi Schmitt.
Amid overall decline in linear ratings, it has become common practice for broadcast networks to ask for financial concessions on long-running series, which naturally become pricier as they age. As a high-end drama series headed into its 21st season with a large cast, most of whom have been on the show for years, Grey’s is expensive. I hear its renewal — like many other broadcast shows’ these days — came with a budget cut.
That is impacting the cast, with established stars faced with a reduction of their episodic guarantees, which means that they may be in fewer episodes next year,...

One thing that many people look for in TV series is an escape from the challenges of reality. Every person is surrounded by a lot of stress these days, so turning on the TV at the end of the day is the easiest way to forget about all the problems and get an easy endorphin or adrenaline rush without actually risking anything.
Of course, people who enjoy fantasy and the supernatural aren't looking for an ounce of realism in the shows they watch, they're much more interested in lore consistency and character design. Those who prefer shows that allude to real-life professionals or events, however, are divided. And CBS' new hit, Elsbeth, just goes to show that divide.

Although the show is considered a spin-off of The Good Wife and The Good Fight, you don't even have to watch them to understand what Elsbeth is all about.

Throughout its eight seasons, Game of Thrones left no stone unturned to traumatize its fans by killing off characters whenever they got the chance. Both books and the television series have had fans bawling over the loss of their favorite characters, including Pedro Pascal’s Oberyn Martell.

Pedro Pascal is one of those few actors who shine bright in whatever role they take. However, it was his time on Game of Thrones that truly showed his potential to the world and gave him a boost in his career. It didn’t take long for Oberyn Martell to become a fan-favorite character. Law & Order may be returning for Season 24 on NBC, but one of its most familiar faces will be gone.
Camryn Manheim’s three-season run on the procedural will end on May 16 with the Law & Order Season 23 finale.
It’s unclear at this point whether Manheim is walking away from the show of her own volition or if she becomes another casualty of the mass exodus plaguing Dick Wolf’s long-running procedural dramas across the broadcast TV landscape.
Manheim was a large part of the revival’s success and has emerged as a fan favorite in the role of Lt. Kate Dixon.
“I had the most incredible experience being a part of the Law & Order Universe, and more importantly the Wolfpack,” the actress shared in an Instagram statement.
“I’m so thankful for the three wonderful seasons that I spent with this wildly talented cast of merry pranksters.”

CSI: Vegas and NCIS: Hawai‘i got canceled within one week of each other this season, marking disappointing results for two top TV franchises. Both CSI and NCIS ranked as the No. 1 scripted broadcast TV program in the United States at one point, and both of those shows spawned successful spinoffs… and at least one that was not so successful. Dick Wolf can relate. His long-running Law & Order franchise has had its share of flops, and even his successful One Chicago universe has had one of its shows flicker out. NBC has unveiled its 2024 fall schedule, which highlights franchise dramas, two nights of laughs, unscripted hits, live specials, and holiday programming. All new series will stream the next day on Peacock along with the rest of NBC’s entertainment lineup.
Three new series are set to premiere in the fall, including the drama Brilliant Minds, starring Zachary Quinto and inspired by the true story of a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist, Oliver Wolf, and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier — the human mind — while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health.
Also coming is St. Denis Medical, which stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Allison Tolman, and David Alan Grier and is from co-creators Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin. It brings the laughs with a mockumentary about an underfunded, understaffed Oregon hospital where dedicated doctors and nurses try their best to treat patients while maintaining their own sanity.

Pedro Pascal‘s career launched to new heights after his appearance on Game of Thrones. And he did so despite the less than impressive presentation of his audition.
How Pedro Pascal was cast in ‘Game of Thrones’ Pedro Pascal | Taylor Hill/FilmMagic
Game of Thrones fans may remember Pascal being cast in the series as the quick-witted Oberyn Martell in season four. With a little help from his friend Sarah Paulson, Pascal landed the role that would make him famous. But securing the role alone was no small feat. Showrunner David Benoiff was looking for a peculiar mix of characteristics when casting the Oberyn. And all of these traits might’ve been difficult to find in just one actor.
“That was such a tricky role to cast,” Benoiff told Variety. “Oberyn entered the story mid-stream, but required the swagger of a character who had been sparring with the other players off-screen for years.

NBCUniversal organized a move from NBC to Peacock for Law & Order: Organized Crime, but that’s one leap that Quantum Leap isn’t making. Last month, Quantum Leap fans learned that NBC had canceled the sci-fi drama after two seasons, bringing Dr. Ben Song’s (Raymond Lee) time-traveling adventures to an end. Law & Order Svu‘s Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler have been shipped together for years, now. Mariska Hargitay has been fielding questions about the two characters coming together almost since the show’s inception. But lately, she’s grown more fascinated with another kind of shipping.
Mariska Hargitay reveals the kind of ‘shipping’ she wants ‘Law & Order Svu’ fans to really focus on Chris Meloni and Mariska Hargitay | Eric Liebowitz/Getty Images
Hargitay and Meloni’s characters have been involved in a sort of ‘will they, won’t they’ sub-plot for decades. At one point, this pairing seemed unlikely. Meloni’s Stabler was married with kids, then Meloni would leave the show entirely. This allowed Hargitay’s Benson to explore other romantic interests in the show, which had been rarely touched on before.
Benson’s love interests seldom worked out, however, and the character is still single and married to her work in Svu.

It’s a business-as-usual lineup — but after last year’s strikes-affected schedule and the numerous disrpuptions of the pandemic year of 2020-21 still relatively fresh, that’s a good thing.
“Basically, it was just where do we put our sophomore shows and our our new shows on schedule?” Steve Kern, senior vp program planning and scheduling at NBC Entertainment, told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. “Our wish was to have two comedy blocks on the fall schedule, and we were fortunate to have enough comedies to do it this year.”

NBC has set its fall 2024 schedule, which includes three new series, and a plum new home for “Found” on Thursday nights behind “Law & Order: Svu.”
Among freshman entires, the medical drama “Brilliant Minds,” starring Zachary Quinto, will debut on Mondays at 10 p.m. Et in the choice post-“The Voice” timeslot. The mockumentary comedy series “St. Denis Medical” — set in an Oregon hospital and starring Wendi McLendon-Covey, Allison Tolman and David Alan Grier — will kick off Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. Both shows had originally been picked up to series in 2023, but their premieres were delayed by the dual Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes.
Elsewhere on the schedule, the new multi-cam comedy “Happy’s Place,” starring Reba McEntire, will kick off Friday nights at 8 p.m., followed by the third season of “Lopez vs Lopez.” The latter show, starring George Lopez, previously aired on Friday nights but had moved to Tuesdays in its second season.

Law & Order fans won’t be seeing Lt. Kate Dixon in Season 24. Camryn Manheim is leaving the NBC procedural after three seasons, Variety confirmed. The upcoming Season 23 finale, airing on May 16, will be Manheim’s final episode. “I thank Camryn for her three wonderful seasons helping us relaunch Law & Order,” creator Dick Wolf said in a statement to Variety. “She is a class act, and I wish her nothing but the best for her next chapter.” Manheim recently spoke to TV Insider and hoped to return for Season 24. “I really hope so. This is one of my most favorite jobs and what will they do without me?” she said with a laugh. “She’s the one who bosses everybody around!” The Emmy winner joined Law & Order, which just celebrated its 500th episode, when it was revived in 2021. She had previously appeared in episodes of the NBC crime drama as different characters.

Law & Order is losing another veteran actor.
The NBC drama will bid farewell to star Camryn Manheim on May 16, the season 23 finale. The actress was a key part of the cast when Dick Wolf revived the flagship procedural for its 21st season.
Manheim becomes the second star to depart L&o this season with her upcoming exit coming on the heels of original star Sam Waterston, who exited in February as D.A. Jack McCoy. He had appeared in more than 400 episodes of the flagship series and returned to lead the revival that remains a high priority for both Wolf and NBC.
To fill the void created by Waterston’s exit, L&o recruited former Scandal favorite Tony Goldwyn to be the show’s new D.A. and join a cast that also includes Hugh Dancy, Reid Scott, Mechad Brooks and Odelya Halevi.

Following Sam Waterston’s shocking exit from Law & Order earlier this year, fans of the hit NBC series will also say goodbye to Camryn Manheim, whose final appearance will be in the Season 23 finale airing May 16, Deadline has confirmed.

Peak TV may be over, but even in a time of industrywide contraction, another era is forging ahead unabated: Welcome to Peak Franchise TV.
Spinoffs of successful series are almost as old as network TV itself — the first ones premiered in the late 1950s. One of the main reasons why people continue to watch the Law & Order franchise is because of beloved characters that viewers simply cannot let go of. Christopher Meloni's Elliot Stabler, who started his journey in the 90s on Svu and returned much later to lead the organized crime unit, is definitely one of those characters.
However, neither the love for the character nor the ‘will they/won't they’ dynamic that the writers have teased between Stabler and his former partner Olivia Benson is enough to keep viewership at the same level it once was. And that prompted NBC to take action.
Is Law & Order: Organized Crime Canceled?
While Law & Order, the original series, and its longest-running spin-off, Special Victims Unit, were renewed for consecutive seasons long ago, Organized Crime's fate remained a mystery. Naturally, fans were surprised to see the newest show fall behind, but NBC kept everyone in the dark.

Elliot Stabler’s story is ending on NBC… but the story is not over.
Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 5 has secured an official renewal for the 2024-2025 season, but the Christopher Meloni-fronted drama will move to Peacock.
The decision means that Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler are being split up again. Due to their shows being under the NBCUniversal window, Meloni and Hargitay will probably continue to crossover between both shows.
Law & Order: Organized Crime has consistently lagged behind Law & Order: Svu and the original Law & Order on Thursdays, but that can be attributed to the later 10/9c timeslot.
The series has always been available the next day on Peacock, so there’s a good chance it has been attracting healthy viewership on the streaming platform given that the show has earned a renewal.

Law & Order Svu has helped give Mariska Hargitay a platform where she could change lives, much like the show changed hers. Her passionate championing of women’s rights especially have led some to wonder if Hargitay is a feminist. It’s a label she wondered about herself.

When Sam Waterson exited the series on Law & Order Season 23 Episode 5, it was a strong story that was still disappointing because it didn't contain any flashbacks or other tributes to his iconic character. The same thing happened here.

Law & Order has been on the air for decades, but one popular series looked like it was on the chopping block. Currently, the franchise has Law & Order, Law & Order: Svu, and Law & Order: Organized Crime. NBC already canceled the original L&o once before bringing it back and now Organized Crime is on the chopping block.
However, there is good and bad news for fans of the Elliot Stabler-led L&o series.

It’s official: There will no longer be an all Law & Order Thursday night on NBC. For its fifth season, Law & Order: Organized Crime is moving to the streaming service, Peacock. That breaks it up from airing Thursday nights after Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU, which also means that chances are there won’t be many (if any) crossovers. And of course, that leads to the inevitable question of what that means for the will they/won’t they slow burn of Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Svu‘s Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay). Organized Crime was created by Dick Wolf, Matt Olmstead, and Ilene Chaiken. It follows the detectives of the Organized Crime Control Bureau as they take on New York City’s most vicious and violent criminal syndicates. It brought Meloni back to the world of Law & Order in 2021, via a two-part crossover with...

“Law & Order: Organized Crime” has been renewed for Season 5, with the show now officially set to move from NBC to Peacock.
The news comes after weeks of speculation that the show would make the jump to the streaming service from the broadcast network. The Season 4 finale will air on NBC on May 16 and stream the next day on Peacock.
Moving “Law & Order: Oc” to Peacock is not altogether surprising. The show has lagged behind fellow Dick Wolf series “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: Svu,” and the three “Chicago” shows at NBC while still maintaining solid viewership. It also reportedly does very well on Peacock, particularly given its more serialized storylines, a departure from Wolf’s typical procedural format.
It was also the last Dick Wolf broadcast show awaiting word on its fate for next season. The other two “Law & Order” shows and all three “Chicago” shows were renewed back in March.

It’s a done deal — NBC’s Law & Order: Organized Crime starring Christopher Meloni has been renewed for a fifth season, which will be streaming exclusively on Peacock. As Deadline previously reported, Season 5 is expected to consist of 10 episodes, less than what the Wolf Entertainment series produced for NBC under normal circumstances but on the high end of an original streaming series whose seasons typically consist of 8 episodes. John Shiban is returning as showrunner.
The move gives the NBCUniversal streamer an original Dick Wolf drama series to go with the Wolf library and next-day runs of the company’s remaining NBC series Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Chicago Med, Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu, which are among the platform’s most viewed titles.

Law & Order Svu has teased a possible romance between Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler for years now. Actor Chris Meloni revealed his thoughts not too long ago about a relationship between the two characters actually happening.

Meloni and Hargitay were aware of their chemistry the moment they met. The two formed a quick bond with each other even before doing their screentest.
