Lydia Deetz, her stepmother Delia and her daughter Astrid stand over a casket, the burial services in progress. We can barely make out who the funeral is for but there he is on the headstone: Charles Deetz. While Charles was once part of the Beetlejuice sequel when the ghost with the most was to “go Hawaiian”, he was written entirely out of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice…for reasons that will soon be obvious.
Despite the original’s and sequel’s dalliances with the afterlife, Jeffrey Jones will not be in Beetlejuice – or pretty much any other legitimate movie – following his disgraceful tumble from his small but reliable spotlight. Perfectly fitting into prestigious period pieces and goofball funny flicks. Jones is a Golden Globe nominee with consistent work – a mix of villain, comedic and at times patriarchal roles, Jeffrey Jones went from Ferris Bueller baddie to Who’s Your Caddy?

When it comes to power-packed action thriller movies, weapons are mandatorily used. Guns are widely used in such movies, especially in Hollywood. A few days ago, James Cameron commented on using too many guns for The Terminator. The Avatar director said he would not do something like this in today’s time. Now, Predator director John McTiernan has revealed details about using too many guns in one of the scenes in his 1987 movie.
The sci-fi action thriller stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as Major Alan ‘Dutch’Schaefer, Carl Weathers as Al Dillon, Elpidia Carrillo as Anna Gonsalves, Bill Duke as Master Sergeant Mac Eliot and others. In a scene where Arnold’s Dutch and others take revenge for the death of Jesse Ventura’s character, Blain, there’s a lot of gun firing that takes place. Sean Connery’s legacy in film history is irrefutable just as much as his contribution to the evolution of late 20th-century cinema. Despite the era’s misgivings and misogyny, Connery remains an irrevocable icon for his role as James Bond in the franchise’s first live-action film Dr. No. His blue-eyed, broad-shouldered, and laid-back charm not only hypnotized millions but also brought the Scotsman fame on a level previously unheard of.

Sadder still, the actor blatantly used his fame as a tool to lord over industry producers and directors for a bigger payday.

A few years ago, after a few rough battles with the press and paparazzi and the cancellation of his MSNBC talk show, Alec Baldwin penned a much-publicized article announcing he’d be leaving “public life.” He reconsidered that departure and then appeared in the popular 2018 films “BlacKkKlansman,” “Mission Impossible: Fallout” and “A Star Is Born,” as well as the 2019 release “Motherless Brooklyn.” On the small screen, he appeared in the limited series “The Looming Tower,” recreated his recurring role on the reboot of “Will and Grace” and hosted “Match Game.”
Most notably Baldwin continued his appearances on “Saturday Night Live” lampooning Donald Trump. He made so many appearances in 2017 that he won an Emmy as Best Comedy Supporting Actor, his third career prize after his two leading wins for “30 Rock.”

Fictional secret agent James Bond has gotten into his fair share of scrapes and close calls, but broadly speaking, the high-profile actors who have played him on screen have been pretty safe stepping into the character's expensive shoes. The Bond films have become famous for their jaw-dropping and boundary-pushing stunts, but those moments are the result of teams of people who design and choreograph everything to be as safe as possible for both the stars and their stunt doubles. The James Bond franchise is one of the most lucrative and longest-running film series of all time, but in its very first movie, we nearly lost its first lead actor in a gruesome death that would have robbed movie lovers of some legendary performances and ripped away the franchise's potential before it even got started.
In 1962's "Dr. No," Sean Connery's Bond notices he's being tailed by three assassins while driving up a mountain road.

It’s been more than 30 years since Sharon Stone and William Baldwin starred together in the 1993 flop Sliver. But recent revelations and controversies surrounding the movie reeks of unhappy moments and alleged pressure that Stone had to face while filming. According to reports, while the erotic thriller failed due to lack of chemistry, the actress revealed how she didn’t even want to star alongside Baldwin.
Sharon Stone in Sliver (1993)
Considering William Baldwin a “boy”, Sharon Stone complained about his involvement in the movie. Instead of the younger Baldwin brother, the actress actually wanted his more famous and accomplished older brother, Alec Baldwin, to play her mysterious seducer in Sliver.

In George Lucas' 1977 sci-fi flick "Star Wars," there is a scene wherein a cadre of Nazi-like bad guys, in the employ of the evil Empire, gather around a boardroom table and mention that the mysterious off-screen Emperor has dissolved the senate and taken absolute control. The military generals are outraged, wondering how the Empire might survive without a bureaucracy in place. In Irvin Kirshner's 1980 sequel "The Empire Strikes Back," it's established that Darth Vader (David Prowse), a mysterious masked warlock, was actually the Emperor's right-hand man, indicating that the Emperor retains control of the Empire through the sheer force of his villainy.
In "The Empire Strikes Back," the Emperor appeared in holographic form to have a powwow with Darth Vader and plan his next move. In the original cut of the movie, the Emperor was played on screen by actress Marjorie Eaton, outfitted with eerie, alien eyeballs. Eaton was a long-working character performer in Hollywood,...

Remembering David Bordwell: A Film Scholar Who Did More Than Anyone to Advance Academic Film Studies
He simply may have watched more movies than anyone else alive. That’s the kind of legendary detail that followed film scholar David Bordwell, dead at 76 after a long struggle with a degenerative lung disease.
Was that true? Impossible to determine, and Bordwell’s cinephilia was never about bragging or the accumulation of knowledge to score points — but instead, to share with others and enrich our collective understanding of cinema. If you studied film on any level in academia, you almost certainly have heard his name.
For several generations of film students, you read Bordwell’s “Film Art: An Introduction” in your fall freshman Film 101 class. That was me in 2004, and I believe that book was already on its seventh edition by that point — it had first been published in 1979. If you went deeper into your studies, you’d undoubtedly encounter his “Film History” textbook as well. Both of these...

Standing alongside the Baron is the savage Glossu "The Beast" Rabban (Dave Bautista), the Baron's nephew who has something to prove in "Dune: Part Two" after failing House Harkonnen in quite a humiliating fashion. That's why the Baron calls upon Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen (Austin Butler), another nephew who may have the ferocious, sadistic warrior's instinct required to keep Paul Atreides from becoming the revolutionary leader who threatens their stronghold in the "Dune" universe.

As Alec Baldwin’s legal challenges continue with Friday’s indictment stemming from the 2021 Rust shooting, he has made moves to shore up his finances, which includes the star starting to appear at fan conventions and having relisted his longtime Hamptons home for $10 million under the asking price from roughly a year ago.
In a video posted this week by real estate brokerage firm Saunders & Associates, Baldwin talks to the camera about his fond memories with the 10,000-square-foot, seven-bedroom home located in Amagansett on Long Island’s South Shore. The 30 Rock alum’s abode is now on the market for $19 million after he previously listed it for $29 million. The original listing was in September 2022, less than a year after a firearm handled by Baldwin on the New Mexico set of indie Western Rust was discharged on Oct. 21, 2021, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza.

Thorpe died Friday of complications related to Parkinson’s Disease, his daughter Megan Feffer shared on Facebook.
“For him, early onset Parkinson’s disease started out with relatively mild tremors and then over time progressed toward less and less bodily autonomy — something particularly torturous for a fiercely independent artist like my dad whose joy in life was to create things with his hands,” Feffer wrote.
“While the disease itself is not technically considered terminal, it does eventually remove crucial functions like movement and swallowing – functions essential for life,” she continued. “To say the last few months, and especially the last few weeks, were challenging for my dad would be an understatement, and I am grateful that he is finally at peace.”

Marc Thorpe, the visual effects artist who created the hit television series “Robot Wars” in which customized radio-controlled robots fight in metal arenas, has died. Thorpe was 77.
Thorpe died on Friday at a hospice facility in Alamo, California, according to his daughter Megan Feffer. Thorpe’s death resulted from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Doctors first diagnosed Thorpe with the progressive nervous system disorder in 1993.
“But if there’s one thing I know for sure it’s that my dad would want to be remembered – and not for his Parkinson’s Disease. He would want to be remembered for his art,” Megan Feffer wrote on Facebook.
She added: “From being a model maker at Ilm on ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Indiana Jones’ to his creation of ‘Robot Wars,’ he made many, many beautiful, weird, detailed and strange things.”
In 1979, Thorpe started working at Industrial Light and Magic/Lucasfilm as a model maker and animatronic designer.

Joss Ackland, a familiar face to eighties and nineties movie fans, is dead at 95. According to Variety, the actor died of natural causes. Famous for playing the loathsome South African villain in Lethal Weapon 2, Ackland had a long and distinguished career in film, TV and on-stage. Arguably, his most memorable screen moment came at the climax of Lethal Weapon 2 when, after pumping Mel Gibson’s Riggs full of bullets, he taunts Danny Glover’s Murtagh by boasting “diplomatic immunity,” to which Murtagh, in a crowd-pleasing moment, cocks his head and blows the bad guy away.
Ackland also made for a memorable bad guy in Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, where he played the villain, De Nomolos. He was also in The Hunt for Red October, K-19: The Widowmaker, and played Emilio Esteves’s kindly former coach in The Mighty Ducks. He also famously appeared in the Pet Shop...

This post contains minor spoilers for the "Star Trek: Lower Decks" episode "The Inner Fight."
Throughout the fourth season of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," audiences have seen a mysterious white UFO, its motivations unknown, cruising about the galaxy attacking and destroying numerous alien vessels. Details about this UFO have slowly been revealed throughout the season, but its true secret remains. Who is flying it and why is it attacking non-Federation ships?
In the latest episode, called "The Inner Fight," it is also revealed that the UFO may be targeting specific Starfleet officers, again for reasons unknown. Captain Freeman (Dawnn Lewis) notes that one of the potential targets may be Dr. Beverly Crusher, once the chief medical officer on the U.S.S. Enterprise. Lieutenant Boimler (Jack Quaid), being intimately familiar with Starfleet history, immediately begins to geek out. He will get to meet the Dr. Beverly Crusher? He is giddy just at the possibility.

Sam Neill reflected on his difficult battle with a rare form of blood cancer, saying he’s not afraid to die.
Speaking to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Australian Story, the 76-year-old New Zealander says death would be “annoying” but he’s “not remotely afraid.” That said, the idea of retiring from acting “fills me with horror.”
The Jurassic Park and Event Horizon star was diagnosed last year with a non-Hodgkin blood cancer (angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma). According to the Australian news outlet, his doctors tried chemotherapy, but it stopped working after three months. They then switched to a drug that requires infusions every two weeks, which has successfully put his cancer into remission but has difficult side effects. His doctors have told him that the drug will stop working at some point.
“I’m prepared for that,” Neill said. “I know I’ve got it, but I’m not really interested in it.

During pre-production of The Hunt for Red October, the first of the Jack Ryan movies, Harrison Ford had been approached about playing Ryan, but he turned it down, and the role went to Alec Baldwin. Apparently, though, Ford had second thoughts after seeing the film, and he wanted to play Ryan in the film’s sequels. He got his wish, and he starred in both Patriot Games and Clear & Present Danger. When he took over the role, Ford told us at the time Patriot Games was released, he made a choice to completely ignore what Baldwin had done with the character in the first film. (Click on the media bar below to hear Harrison Ford) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Harrison_Ford_Patriot_Games_Alec_Badlwin_.mp3 Patriot Games and Clear & Present Danger are available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and most digital platforms.

Strays director Josh Greenbaum has waited four-plus years for today.
In 2019, when Greenbaum started filming Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, he operated under the belief that his feature directorial debut would be a traditional theatrical release. But 2020 had other plans, as Barb and Star became one of many films to go from theatrical to premium VOD or streaming due to the pandemic. But then the impossible happened. The high jinks of Kristen Wiig, Annie Mumolo and Jamie Dornan caught lightning in a bottle, especially Dornan’s beachside serenade to a squabble of seagulls, and the comedy cut through the saturated home market to become a cult hit.
Despite his initial disappointment, Greenbaum soon found himself on a Zoom opposite Guillermo del Toro, who generously agreed to host Barb and Star’s Directors Guild of America Q&a. So the fact that Greenbaum’s debut film was still...

Here are five recommendations you can stream on Screambox right now.

Summer is well underway, and if you’ve already exhausted all the seasonal classics, Pool Party Massacre can fill the void with a comedic send-up to ’80s slashers like Slumber Party Massacre and Sleepaway Camp (both also on Screambox). The doctor is in … the Michigan Senate race. Actor Hill Harper is setting his sights on politics.
The Good Doctor star on Monday announced he is running for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat, challenging U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin for the Democratic nomination.
In an interview with the Associated Press ahead of the announcement, the actor, who owns a home and a coffee shop in Detroit, described himself as a small-business owner, union member and activist and explained how not being a “career politician” would give him an advantage in Congress. “It’s not about party. It’s about people feeling represented,” Harper said. “And being an independent voice in the U.S. Senate is something I believe Michiganders want right now.”
Harper has had a 30-year career in television, co-starring in series such as City of Angels, CSI: NY, Covert Affairs, Limitless and Homeland. He has played Dr.

Pavan Grover, a writer and producer on the recent action thriller “97 Minutes” starring Alec Baldwin, has spoken out about standing firm with the star in the aftermath of “Rust.”
Grover, a Houston-based spinal surgeon with a passion for cinema, debuted as a writer in 2002 with “Unspeakable” starring Dennis Hopper, and served as a producer on “Odd Thomas” (2013), based on Dean Koontz’s novel and directed by Stephen Sommers (“The Mummy”).
Grover pitched the idea of “97 Minutes” — a ticking-clock thriller in which a hijacked airplane has 97 minutes before it runs out of fuel — when he met Baldwin serendipitously at Sundance in early 2021. Once Baldwin was attached, the project raised coin via presales, distribution and American and international debt financing, based on the actor’s value in those markets.
Then, in October 2021, the “Rust” shooting happened. Baldwin was accused of negligently pulling the trigger on a prop gun, causing the...

Your mission, should you choose to see the ponderously titled Mission - Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One, isn't just to watch Tom Cruise and his chums throw themselves about with heroic abandon but to think about stories.
For various reasons I was reminded of three somewhat apocryphal tales. We'll gloss over the boundaries between technothrillers and Science Fiction though I'm with Bruce Sterling who defines the former as the latter "with the president in it."
After The Hunt For Red October came out, author Tom Clancy was visited by the FBI about classified information. He explained all his sources were public, and that in the places where things weren't he built on known capabilities to get to where he needed them for his story.
During the Manhattan Project, though one doubts it'll appear in Oppenheimer, Cleve Cartmill wrote a story called Deadline. That was published in pulp magazine Astounding. It described,...

‘Jack Ryan’ Season 4 Review: John Krasinski Cements His Legacy as Tom Clancy’s Legendary Action Hero
It’s not easy being Jack Ryan. Sure, there are the upsides to being a highly placed CIA operative and getting to jetset around the world to all kinds of exotic locales, but there’s also a whole lot of frantic running, jumping, dodging bullets and withstanding torture. As such, this week’s arrival of the fourth and final season of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” on Prime Video marks just another day on the job for the titular spy. And boy, is it great to have him back — even if only to say goodbye.
This final batch of six episodes arrives on the heels of Season 3 last December, and things haven’t slowed down. Having cleared his name after finding himself implicated in a global conspiracy last time, Jack (John Krasinski) is now acting deputy director of the CIA, biding his time while acting director Elizabeth Wright (Betty Gabriel) awaits her Senate confirmation.

Actor Alec Baldwin, best known for his roles in films such as ‘Beetlejuice’, ‘Cooler’, ‘The Departed’ and ‘The Hunt for Red October’ is healing fast and taking big steps as he was spotted walking without a cane for the first time since his hip surgery.
As per People, “On Tuesday, the actor, 65, was spotted walking without a cane in New York City for the first time since getting his right hip replaced during a procedure on May 30.”
Taking to Instagram, Baldwin had earlier said that the recovery process had been an “incredibly painful” experience and was seen walking with the aid of a metal crutch earlier in June.
The actor’s wife, Hilaria Baldwin, first shared news of the surgery in an Instagram post where she explained that the actor had been experiencing a “very intense chronic pain chapter.”
She captioned “Alec got a new hip today … it was a long time necessary.

Director of “Die Hard,” “Predator” and “The Hunt for Red October,” John McTiernan will step into the limelight at this year’s Neuchatel Intl. Fantastic Film Festival (Nifff), presenting three of his films as guest of honor while serving on the festival jury.
If anything, the choice of honoree was obvious for Nifff artistic director Pierre-Yves Walder, who calls McTiernan “the Pope of action cinema.”
“The very idea of John McTiernan meeting our public will shape the history of our festival,” Walder says. “Because his films fed a shared love of movies, for us in Neuchatel and around the world.”
“McTiernan’s films are like luxury prototypes,” says Walder. “He helped invent this extremely muscular action cinema with a rough edge, turning Bruce Willis into an icon and creating the mold for modern sci-fi action.”

Few actors enjoy more job security within their niche than Gerard Butler. If you need a tough-looking everyman to jump out of planes, strap bombs to the sides of buildings, and beat up faceless henchmen in a movie that nobody will know about until the day it’s released, he’s really the only guy you can call. Even as Hollywood keeps leaning more heavily on established IP while simultaneously lamenting the “death of the movie star” that those decisions inevitably create, Butler’s status as a man who can open instantly-forgotten films that make more money than God continues to rise.

The 1990 film adaptation of Tom Clancy's "The Hunt for Red October" is a sturdy, tension-filled submarine thriller featuring fine work from Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin. As an author, Clancy was known for writing potboiler action stories set in the world of the military and he was especially known for his attention to detail. As a director, filmmaker John McTiernan was known for delivering successful blockbusters like "Predator" and "Die Hard" by entertainingly establishing the geography of the action and letting his actors make magic within those spaces.

Courtney B. Vance has joined the cast of Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch as Cobra Bubbles, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Disney declined to comment.
Vance joins previously announced castmembers Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani and Kahiau Machado as David Kawena. Zach Galifianakis joined the cast in February. Stitch, naturally, will be a CG confection. Dean Fleischer Camp, the filmmaker behind indie darling and best animated feature Oscar nominee Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, is directing the remake that is intended to be a major release on Disney+.
The Hawaii-centric story tells of the bond formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who was genetically engineered to be a force of destruction. With nosy social workers and pursuing aliens banging on the door, the two bond over a shared sense of family and win the day.
