Charlize Theron’s 2002 critically panned thriller, Trapped, finds new popularity on Netflix’s Top 10
Sometimes, movies that fail to make a splash when they’re initially released find a new audience later in life. It isn’t unheard of that a movie that flopped and exhibited a low critical response can gain a cult following or even newfound popularity. John Carpenter’s career is kind of filled with movies like this. The early 2000s had seen a slew of mid-budget thrillers in an era before mega-budget franchises took over cinemas. One of those films is a 2002 psychological thriller titled Trapped.
Trapped would seemingly get lost in a sea of movies like Along Came a Spider or Enough, as well as similar crime-thriller genre movies made popular by Ashley Judd with films like Double Jeopardy, High Crimes and Twisted. According to ScreenRant, the Charlize Theron and Kevin Bacon film has found new popularity when it cracked Netflix’s Top 10 Movies along with new movies like The Equalizer 3,...

Janet Yang has been re-elected as president of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. Her second-term re-election was made by the Academy’s board of governors who additionally elected a number of officer positions for 2023-2024.
Yang is an Emmy-winning producer with credits on projects including “The Joy Luck Club,” “The People vs. Larry Flynt,” “Zero Effect,” “High Crimes,” “Dark Matter,” “Shanghai Calling” and “Over the Moon.” She climbed to her success in Hollywood after working under Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy who helped show her the ropes at Amblin.
“I’ve felt like an outsider many times throughout my life,” Yang said this year at the Oscars. “It’s wonderful to have a sense of belonging, and terrible not to … If I can help open the door for other women and people of color, I’m thrilled.

Janet Yang has been re-elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by the organization’s Board of Governors.
The producer will be serving her second consecutive one-year term and was widely expected to take the reins once again. Presidents can serve up to four consecutive one-year terms as long as they are eligible, and Yang is only in her fifth year as a Governor-at-Large and thus conceivably could run again in 2024 and 2025. AMPAS presidents almost always are re-elected without much controversy.
Board officers also were elected, and it will be a group with a lot of new faces compared to 2022. The lineup is as follows:
Bonnie Arnold, Vice President
Howard Berger, Vice President
Brooke Breton, Vice President
Tom Dufffield, Vice President/Treasurer
DeVon Franklin, Vice President

Ashley Judd is reflecting on the devastating day her mother, Naomi Judd, died. "My beloved mother, Naomi Judd, who had come to believe that her mental illness would only get worse, never better, took her own life that day," Ashley wrote. "The trauma of discovering and then holding her laboring body haunts my nights." But instead of being able to be with her mom as she took her last breaths, Ashley said she was bombarded with interviews that...

With over 90 films to her career, Manisha Koirala is acknowledged as one of the finest Indian actresses to grace the big screen. With each new movie and character, the actress would completely disappear into her role in films like 1942: A Love Story, Khamoshi: The Musical, Dil Se, Company, and most recently Lust Stories and Sanju. Ms. Koirala takes on the role of Sheila, a perfectionist, who is very proper and always acts in the manner that she thinks is the right way to be in her life.

From the start, the Damned Things’ existence seemed unlikely: What were two dudes from Fall Out Boy doing in a band with the guy from Anthrax? But Fob lead guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley knew their hard rock, and ended up sounding right at home on the band’s 2010 debut album, Ironiclast, alongside Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and singer Keith Buckley of the metalcore band Every Time I Die. Their excellent, just-released second album, High Crimes, though, is truly improbable, if only because it showed up with little...

Charles Roven’s Atlas Entertainment has acquired the rights to Joseph Finder’s thriller “Judgment,” and plans to adapt the novel into a series, Variety has learned exclusively.
The novel centers on Juliana Brody, a formidable judge in the Superior Court of Massachusetts. The end is finally upon us. “The Leftovers” airs its final episode this Sunday on HBO, and with it comes the close of one of television’s all-time great drama series. Over the course of its three-season run, “The Leftovers” has earned acclaim for Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, as well as the ensemble cast, but it would be a shame to say goodbye to this series without spotlighting the men and women behind the camera.
“The Leftovers” and its point-of-view storytelling always allowed different directors to leave their mark on the series. Through memorable sequences and shots, these seven directors made “The Leftovers” an emotionally visceral and downright spiritual experience. It’s safe to say there won’t be another series like it for some time, but television is in good hands as long as these filmmakers are guiding it.

Snake Plissken had to hustle to escape the clutches of the Uspf after ripping the innards out of that critical cassette tape following his rescue of the President. While that crucial decision may have been the end of John Carpenter’s cult classic 1981 film, it’s only the beginning of the Escape From New York comic book series from Boom! Studios.
Hitting comic shop shelves today, the third issue sees Snake getting entangled in more politics-fueled peril after the leaders of the Free Republic of Florida force him to train their troops. If you haven’t picked the latest issue up yet, we have a set of preview pages teasing Snake’s brutally honest training sessions.

Maybe there's hope for Jeremy Renner's unloved movie hero after all? Or maybe not. It's up against last year's winner Saga.

Why run for Senate when you can star in the latest Ya sensation?

When Democrats get together in North Carolina in September to formally nominate Barack Obama as their party’s candidate for president, one of the delegates at the 2012 Democratic National Convention is going to stand out like a sore thumb. A really glamorous sore thumb. Ashley Judd has been selected by Democratic officials in Tennessee to be one of her home state’s official delegates. That’s right, folks, the star of ABC’s Missing — and movies like Kiss the Girls, Frida, High Crimes, and Tooth Fairy — will cast a vote in the nominating process. A real vote that actually counts.

Ashley Judd has returned to her butt-kicking ways, but this time she's going to do it every week on TV. When ABC's new drama Missing premieres Thursday (8/7c), viewers will encounter the actress in a role that will seem familiar to fans of her big-screen thrillers, including Kiss the Girls, Double Jeopardy, High Crimes and Twisted. In a sense, they helped pave the way for Judd to play Missing 's Becca Winstone, a florist and former CIA agent whose teenage son Michael (Nick Eversman) goes missing in Italy. (Ok, so it also borrows a lot from Liam Neeson's Taken.)

She's a stone cold fox. He's The Rock. THR reports Susan Sarandon has joined Dwayne Johnson for the new action-thriller Snitch. The film, which comes from stuntman turned writer and director Ric Roman Waugh (Felon, In The Shadows), is based on a 2004 episode of PBS' Frontline entitled "The Plea." The film will tell the true story of a suburban father (Johnson) who goes undercover to take down a high-level drug dealer in exchange for a reduction on his son's 30-year prison sentence. Sarandon will play an attorney working with Johnson's character who's looking for a big drug bust to further her career. Waugh rewrote a draft by Justin Haythe (the upcoming Lone Ranger, Revolutionary Road, The Clearing), who penned the film when it was set-up back at New Line Cinema with Carl Franklin (Devil in a Blue Dress, High Crimes, Out of Time) attached. Dolphin Tale in 3D
Directed by: Charles Martin Smith
Cast: Nathan Gamble, Harry Connick Jr., Ashley Judd, Morgan Freeman
Running Time: 1 hr 53 mins
Rating: PG
Release Date: September 23, 2011
Plot: A boy (Gamble) makes a strong connection with a dolphin named Winter, whose tail was lost.
Who’S It For? Kids with a love of dolphins are the obvious audience for this family-friendly, slow-paced film.
Expectations: I do most of my crying in the movie theater, and I figured even though this film looked a little cheesy it could work for me. Plus, having Freeman in this flick couldn’t hurt, right?
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Nathan Gamble as Sawyer Nelson: First things first, while there are many adults in this film, the first two leads are 11-year-old children. Sawyer has father issues, so he’s looking for a fish to replace that lost affection. Ok, he’s not exactly looking, but he definitely finds it.

We've made no secret of our love for Adam Scott in these parts, but he's somehow not quite become the massive star it feels like he's been destined to be for a while. The actor popped up as a vaguely familiar face in serious dramas like "The Aviator," "High Crimes" and, um, "Torque" (maybe not so much with the serious and the drama) in the first half of the last decade, but he then took a major about turn into comedy, stealing the show in "Step Brothers," leading ace sitcom "Party Down" and recently joining the cast of the amazing…...

Prior to his appointment as Assistant City Manager on the NBC comedy Parks and Recreation, Adam Scott already has had grabbed people’s attention with roles in High Crimes, Torque and The Aviator, and easily turned himself into a viable action hero in last summer’s Piranha 3D.
He has just seized two roles in two upcoming projects, My Mother’s Curse and See Girl Run.
My Mother’s Curse is based on Seth Rogen‘s character, an inventor who plans to take his mother (Barbra Streisand) on a road trip to try to market and sell his latest invention. He also has a learned motive to rejoin her with a long-lost love. It isn’t known with certainty what role Scott will play. Colin Hanks and Yvonne Strahovski are also starring. Anne Fletcher is helming My Mother’s Curse from a script by Dan Fogelman.
