A hot, strong summer wind is the overriding soundtrack to “Three Kilometers to the End of the World” — the kind of dry, whirring weather that swallows conversations held even a short distance away, and carries stray, light objects far from where they meant to land. For 17-year-old Adi, however, it’s not loud enough to keep his secrets safe, nor heavy enough to lift and float him away from the home in which he feels increasingly imprisoned. A rural village in thrall to the Romanian Orthodox Church proves as hostile an environment as you’d expect for a closeted gay teen in writer-director Emanuel Pârvu’s claustrophobic study of personal and institutional prejudice closing in on a community misfit: If the breeze would just die down for a second, you might hear Adi’s inner clock tensely counting down his slim shot at freedom.

“Hater says I’m superficial,” muses one of the TikTok influencers who rule the version of the world that obsesses 19-year-old Liane in Agathe Riedinger’s Cannes Competition entry Wild Diamond (Diamant Brut). “Yes, I’m superficial,” continues the influencer, “but that doesn’t mean I’m a moron.”
Maybe not, but there aren’t many prospects for young women like her fan Liane (Malou Khebizi), whose adeptness at facial contouring, applying diamantés to her towering shoes and blowing kisses to her 50,000-and-counting followers are not generally regarded as marketable skills. Not in the old-school versions of the world, anyway; she can see that her middle-aged career counsellor, for all that she is worn down by Liane’s tantrums, pities her.
Liane doesn’t see things that way. For her, being beautiful – her kind of beautiful, read: hot — is her future. It makes people look at her. They may look...

Sasquatch Sunset directors Nathan and David Zellner always wondered what these hairy giants do when they’re not walking – the only Bigfoot footage available has been a minute of a supposed Sasquatch wandering in the northern California woods. They decided to flesh that out in unique dialogue-free comedic imagining of the creatures’ daily life – eating, fighting, etc. Stars Jesse Eisenberg, Riley Keough, Christophe Zajac-Denek and Nathan Zellner are unrecognizable as the hairy tribe of four that entranced Sundance (see Deadline review). Bleecker Street is opening the film, written by David Zellner, executive produced by Ari Aster, in 9 theaters in New York, LA, San Francisco and Austin, ahead of a big jump to about 800 screens next week.

The 2024 Grammy Awards ceremony is being held this weekend and we’re predicting the winners in all of the major categories!
Sza leads the pack this year with nine nominations.
In general, women are totally crushing it: Sza, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, and Miley Cyrus all dominated the biggest categories. Jon Batiste is actually the only man in the Record of the Year and Album of the Year categories.
Taylor has a chance at setting a record for most Album of the Year wins if she picks up the award for Midnights. She currently is tied for the most wins in the category with three previous wins!
Make sure to tune in on Sunday for the Grammys, hosted by Trevor Noah for the fourth time. The show is airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ starting at 8pm Et. Check out the full list of nominations.

The 66th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 4, during two ceremonies: the afternoon Premiere Ceremony where most of the awards will be handed out, and the prime time telecast on CBS and Paramount+ hosted for the fourth year in a row by Trevor Noah. But who will win? Scroll down for our official odds in 37 categories, which are based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users who have placed their bets here in our predictions center. Our projected winners are highlighted in gold.
Sza enters these awards with the most nominations (nine), followed by R&b breakout Victoria Monet, alternative singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers and engineer/mixer Serban Ghenea with seven apiece. This year’s awards also marked a number of changes and updates. The Recording Academy consolidated its categories into just 11 fields in order to give voters more flexibility as to which categories they participate in.

The exciting new category of Best Pop Dance Recording at the Grammys will crown its inaugural winner soon, and it’s looking like a tight race. Right now I’m inclined to believe it’ll be Troye Sivan‘s “Rush” to take the award home.
Sign UPfor Gold Derby’s free newsletter with latest predictions
“Rush” seems to be the perfect balance of success and acclaim, unlike the other nominees. For example, many predict Kylie Minogue’s “Padam Padam” will win, especially considering the acclaim it’s gotten. But it might be at a disadvantage because the song did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100, unlike a couple of the other nominees, and has only recently crossed 100 million streams.
Inversely, there’s David Guetta, Anne-Marie, and Coi Leray’s “Baby Don’t Hurt Me,” which was pretty big, racking up 369 million streams and peaking in the top 20 on the pop airplay chart.

It would be an understatement to say John Lennon and George Harrison had some issues with each other. John felt he deserved credit for getting one of George’s songs released as the B-side of The Beatles’ “The Ballad of John and Yoko.” The latter song did well despite its edgy lyrics.
The connection between The Beatles’ ‘The Ballad of John and Yoko’ and ‘Old Brown Shoe’
The book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono features a 1980 interview. During the interview, the “Instant Karma!” singer said he didn’t like his unflattering portrayal in George’s book I, Me, Mine. John recalled times he looked out for George.
“I made sure George got the B-side of ‘The Ballad of John and Yoko,’ I think,” he said, referring to George’s song “Old Brown Shoe.” “And those little things he doesn’t remember.

For many film buffs, the classic Christmas film Miracle on 34th Street is their go-to holiday film. Subsequently, the movie depicts the best and worst of humanity and is essential viewing during the Christmas season. Altogether, the original film has spawned four remakes. However, they’ve all stayed true to the original script.
‘Miracle on 34th Street’ (1947)
The film’s original plot follows Doris Walker (Maureen O’Hara), a worker at Macy’s Department Store in New York City. However, Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) realizes the man who will play Santa Claus is drunk. Later, he tells Doris, and she hires Kris to be the Macy’s store Santa Claus.
Her divorce disillusions Doris and her daughter Susan (Natalie Wood). However, their neighbor, lawyer Fred Gaily (John Payne), is surprised Susan doesn’t believe in Santa Claus.
When Susan meets Kris, she believes he’s Santa Claus. Fred believes Kris and clashes with Doris.

1994’s Miracle on 34th Street is filled with magical moments. But some were more enjoyable to film than others for actor Mara Wilson. The former child star, who played young Susan Walker, counted scenes with certain cast members as her favorite. Spoiler: Not Sir Richard Attenborough’s Kriss Kringle. Plus, some behind-the-scenes details about the film.
Wilson loved filming any ‘Miracle on 34th Street’ scenes with Elizabeth Perkins and Dylan McDermott
Wilson, who no longer acts, counted her favorite scenes to film in the ‘90s remake of the classic Christmas movie as the ones with two of her cast members. Not Attenborough, or even the reindeer in the courtroom, made the cut. Rather, her movie mom and dad.
“On set, anything that I got to do with Dylan McDermott and Elizabeth Perkins [was my favorite]; they were just lovely,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “In particular, the dinner table scene during Thanksgiving was really fun.

Ah, sports movies. The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat. From The Natural to Any Given Sunday, from Rocky to Miracle, there’s nothing quite like watching an underdog defy the odds and emerge victorious. Or, at least, that’s what Hollywood A-lister/former People’s Sexiest Man Alive George Clooney tries to do with his latest directorial effort, The Boys in the Boat.

Madrid-based Rock & Ruz – the production company of Netflix’s “Nowhere,” which has just been confirmed by Netflix as its most-viewed Spanish-language movie of all time – has pacted new projects with Italy’s Leonardo Fasoli, a head-writer of “Gomorrah” and creator of “ZeroZeroZero,” and Spain-based Alejandro Hernández, a co-writer on Alejandro Amenábar’s “While at War” and “La Fortuna.”
Targeting the key to high-end fiction success in Europe – its screenwriters – and added to “Nowhere” and an upcoming Spanish-Mexican remake of hit Korean movie “Miracle in Cell No. 7” – the freshly-announced projects mark out Rock & Ruz as a new and significant Spain-based international player.

If George Clooney weren't such a charismatic actor, his milquetoast directing might not inspire such derision. It's been well over a decade since he sunk his teeth into a meaty part, yet his ambitions on the other side of the camera have ranged from passable to terrible. "The Boys in the Boat" ranks in the upper echelon of Clooney's directorial efforts, if only because that's a rather low bar.
This is sturdy, simple studio filmmaking at its least offensive. Clooney executes a familiar underdog sports narrative with technical competence and some measure of engaging action. It's aiming for less than his last foray into period athletics, 2008's "Leatherheads," which also tried to shoehorn in screwball comedy elements alongside football competition. But "The Boys in the Boat" achieves more by using a more vibrant palette to color within predictable lines.

Classic rock is so pervasive that it influenced artists who don’t make rock music in any way, shape, or form. John Lennon’s songs generally weren’t as sentimental as Celine Dion’s. However, one of John’s later tracks is so emotional that it works in Dion’s hands. Her version did significantly better in the United States than the original.
John Lennon wrote 1 of his songs for his son, Sean Ono Lennon
Dion and John might appear to be polar opposites as artists. Regardless, John was a balladeer at times. His last album, Double Fantasy, includes the ballad “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy).” Dion later covered the tune during the early 2000s.
In 2020, David Sheff contributed an essay to the book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Sheff discussed hearing John sing the tune for his son, Sean Ono Lennon.

Raphael Saadiq and U.K. singer Kelli-Leigh have dropped a new holiday single, “Miracle.” The classically overwrought, pop-tinged song was written and recorded for Prime Video’s forthcoming Christmas movie, Candy Cane Lane, which stars Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross.
“The song ‘Miracle’ is about, of course, a miracle,” Saadiq said in a statement. “Once you see the film, you see all these amazing things happening — a little bit of beautiful magic between a family and a mother and father. ‘Miracle’ just comes on and tells that whole story of how a family works.
