Two of-the-moment actors are leading a package headed to the Cannes market next week. Greta Lee, star of last year’s Oscar-nominated “Past Lives” and a SAG nominee for “The Morning Show,” and Kingsley Ben-Adir, whose starring vehicle “Bob Marley: One Love” exceeded box office expectations and who played Malcolm X in the three-time Oscar-nominated “One Night in Miami…,” are teaming with the reliable workhorse director Louis Leterrier in a new science fiction project called “11817.”
While the title could use an adjustment, Letterier – whose previous work includes “Transporter 2,” “Now You See Me,” and “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance” – is co-producing the film with his new company, Carrousel Studios, with partners Thomas Benski, and French actor Omar Sy, who happens to be on this year’s Cannes jury.

Louis Leterrier has directed the action films The Transporter, Transporter 2, Unleashed, and Fast X, the action comedies The Brothers Grimsby and The Takedown, the mystery thriller Now You See Me, the fantasy adventure Clash of the Titans, and the comic book adaptation The Incredible Hulk (not to mention the TV shows The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and Lupin), and over the decades his films have racked up $2 billion at the box office. Now he’s set to direct and produce the film 11817, working from a screenplay by Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying), which will see him venturing into the sci-fi horror realm.
11817 will show us what happens when inexplicable forces trap a family of four inside their house indefinitely. As both modern luxuries and life or death essentials begin to run out, the family must learn how to be resourceful to survive and outsmart who – or what – is keeping them trapped…...

What does a transporter even do? In the "Transporter" action-thriller film series, Jason Statham plays Frank Martin, the titular transporter who acts as a driver-for-hire, who moves packages for selective clients without any questions asked. Martin is not your average transporter, as his impressive military background grants him an edge during combat, which is an inevitability when such high risk is involved. Martin strives to maintain a clearly defined double life with little to no overlap and expects his clients to adhere to his incorrigible personal code, which includes never altering the deal or opening client packages, and absolutely no names.
At first glance, the watch order for the "Transporter" series seems pretty straightforward, with four movies etching out Martin's arc and the shenanigans that ensue because of his unique occupation. However, for the sake of continuity, the release date order needs to be shifted around a bit, while one...

Long before he ever signed on to direct Fast X, director Louis Leterrier was an expert at staging cinematic mayhem. After all, this is the man who made Jason Statham an action star in the first two Transporter movies and directed the best English-language Jet Li movie, Unleashed (aka Danny the Dog). He also made one of the first proper MCU movies (The Incredible Hulk), the smash hit Clash of the Titans remake, and Now You See Me. So, when Justin Lin quit the franchise, Universal needed someone who could jump in and pick up the pieces quickly, and Leterrier did such a good job he’s already been signed to direct Fast X – Part 2.
In our exclusive interview, Leterrier discusses the franchise’s future, including what he knows of the Hobbs-centric spin-off. He goes into the fact that the plan had always been to include Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs,...

The Academy Awards doesn’t only recognize actors and filmmakers for their accomplishments. But costume designers, writers, composers and the like all typically have their chance to shine on the big stage.
However, there was one group of people that Jason Statham felt deserved a ton of recognition for their work, yet were mostly ignored.
Jason Statham wanted the Oscars to add this category to the Academy Awards Jason Statham | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Statham was very passionate about the work that stuntmen delivered in films. As someone who performs his own stunts a great deal, he’s keenly aware of the amount of dedication and risk taken for these performers. In a resurfaced interview with Vanity Fair, he expressed a bit of frustration that stuntmen weren’t recognized by the Academy.
“All of the stunt men — these are the unsung heroes,” Statham said. “Nobody is giving them any credibility. They’re risking their necks.

There's something to be said for a reliable craftsman like "Fast X" helmer Louis Leterrier. Few would try and seriously argue that the director of "Transporter 2," "The Incredible Hulk," and "Now You See Me" is secretly a visionary, but there's absolutely a consistency in quality to his work regardless of genre or budget. It's what also allowed Leterrier to quietly go from helming every episode of the virtuoso puppet fantasy series "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance" to establishing the template for the deft and quick-footed crime caper "Lupin" in the span of but two years.
Even with a plethora of experience under his belt, "Fast X" is easily the biggest challenge Leterrier has ever taken on ... as one would hope given its reported $340 million (!) budget. On top of that, it's a job that he stumbled into under pretty bizarre circumstances. As you may recall, he took over from...

For more than 20 years, the Fast and Furious franchise has been celebrated for its over-the-top action sequences, lunkheaded sincerity and cavalier approach to logic. When the balance is right, these are features, not bugs. But when that balance is off, as it is in the new Fast X, the result is a cinematic pileup that suggests the series is finally running out of gas.
For those late to the barbecue, Fast X doesn’t waste time catching them up. The film starts with a flashback to the climax of the series’ fifth entry – easily its best – revisiting Dominic Torretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) as they speed down the streets of Rio, dragging a drug kingpin’s massive safe behind them. What they don’t know is that the cartel boss’ son, Dante (Jason Momoa), watched the whole thing and has been planning revenge against Dom and his crew for 10 years,...

The final "Fast and Furious" movie (if you believe that this series will ever really end) has found its director — and it's a familiar name: Louis Leterrier. Leterrier also helmed the upcoming "Fast X," and now he's on board to direct "Fast and Furious 11," which will get an appropriate and official title sooner or later. This is likely a sign that the studio and producers are happy with Leterrier's work on "Fast X," as the filmmaker was a last-minute replacement, taking over the 10th movie from franchise stalwart Justin Lin. Leterrier's previous credits include "Unleashed," which is a pretty great action movie no one seems to talk about anymore, as well as "Transporter 2," "The Incredible Hulk," "Clash of the Titans," and "Now You See Me."

Actor Jason Statham has endured “many injuries” over the course of his acting career. The 55-year-old actor has performed a variety of stunts in various action films over the years and has ended up with injuries such as a torn bicep and almost “faceplanted” the ground at a speed of 30 miles per hour, reports ‘Female First UK’.
He told Collider: “There have been a couple of situations. I think when we shot ‘Crank’, we were hanging out of a real helicopter. “A lot of the things we do now – with ‘The Expendables’ – anytime you’re on a helicopter it’s usually on a green screen. But with ‘Crank’, we were actually in a helicopter. We’re shooting a fight scene where I was standing on the skids, we have a small pick there. So it was a real stunt, you know, that one was pretty tricky”.

Italy, and all of Europe, awoke Monday to a new political reality after far-right politician Giorgia Meloni claimed victory in Italy’s snap elections. With nearly all the results in, Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party, a group with neofascist origins, secured the biggest share of votes.
Her far-right coalition, which includes the League, headed by Matteo Salvini, and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia party, have a clear majority and should be able to form a new government. Such a coalition of nationalist and far-right parties would represent Italy’s most rightwing government since the end of Benito Mussolini’s reign in 1945. Meloni has made a name for herself with starkly conservative stances, on abortion, immigration and LGBTQ+ rights.

The film, set to be directed Bille August (“Pelle the Conqueror”), is set to go into production this Fall on the island of Ischia, near Naples in Italy.
“Me, You” is set in the 1950s, in post-war Italy, where 16-year-old London native Marco is on holiday with his father Edward (Hollander). He soon finds himself accompanying fisherman Nicola (Gassman) on his sojourns into the bay of Naples. Louis Leterrier is set to take over the director’s chair on “Fast X” from Justin Lin, Variety has learned. The decision comes less than a week after Lin’s surprise departure from the helm of the 10th installment in the main “Fast and Furious” movie franchise.
Leterrier, who beat out numerous candidates for the job, per sources, is Universal picture’s first choice, and schedules are still being hammered out. He comes to the franchise with a wide array of experience in the action realm. He expanded his directing career in 2005 with two modestly budgeted action showcases for Jet Li (“Unleashed”) and Jason Statham (“Transporter 2”), and he transitioned into studio tentpoles with 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk,” 2010’s “Clash of the Titans” and 2013’s “Now You See Me.” After a box office stumble with the 2016 Sacha Baron Cohen vehicle “The Brothers Grimsby,” the French filmmaker turned to television with...

November is a good month for saying goodbye on HBO Max. The streaming platform will host the final 2021 episodes of HBO late-night staples “Real Time with Bill Maher” and the Emmy Award-winning “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,” the season finales of Max originals “Love Life” and “Doom Patrol,” and also provide home viewers their last opportunity to watch “Dune” on HBO Max until sometime in 2022 (“Dune” leaves HBO Max on November 21).
But beyond those conclusions, there are some huge premieres as well: Oscar contender “King Richard” arrives on November 19 with Will Smith in the lead role, the back-half of “Gossip Girl” Season 1 will make its debut at some point, and the HBO Music Box series continues with the Alanis Morrisette documentary “Jagged” (which the singer roundly criticized) and a new feature on Dmx. Director Olivier Megaton is set to direct a sci-fi action film called The Champion. The movie is described by THR as being in the "vein of a futuristic Spartacus, Champion tells of a man falsely imprisoned for an act of terrorism who must battle through the prison’s gladiator program to regain his freedom."
Megaton has a solid resume of action films that include Taken 2, Taken 3, Transporter 2, and Colombiana. He will be directing the film from a script being written by actor-turned-scribe Hal Ozsan (Dawson’s Creek).
The Champion sounds like it could make for a really cool action film. Who doesn't like gladiator movies?!

We have a list of the new Hulu movies and shows arriving in February 2020.
February is a month for love and Hulu knows exactly what to do with it. For its February 2020 new releases, Hulu is introducing an original series fit for Valentine's Day. High Fidelity premieres on Valentine's Day and this modern adaptation of Nick Hornby's novel and Stephen Frears film will bring some love and music to the mid-February doldrums.
Hulu's only $5.99/month now, grab the deal here!
Another original arriving in February is Utopia Falls (also premiering on February 14), which looks to be teenage-oriented series combining Harry Potter, The Expanse, and music. That sound like something that might interest you?
February 1 sees the arrival of plenty of films to enjoy like 300, When Harry Met Sally, The Fugitive, and 28 Days Later. That's about as diverse an array of genre films as you'll get.

Just last week, Vin Diesel was using his Facebook foghorn to counter reports that the eighth Fast & Furious entry was having trouble locking down a director. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, there are several candidates racing towards the finish line, with Louis Leterrier, F. Gary Gray and Adam Wingard all in contention. Deadline also throws in The Signal’s William Eubank, though THR says his name came up earlier in the search, so he may already have dropped out.Wingard, who made You’re Next and The Guest, seems the most interesting of the three main contenders, especially given his background in horror and thrillers, which would make him the second director after James Wan to jump from scares to screeching tyres. He could certainly bring his own style to the film, though we do wonder if he’s better off doing just that, and not going the studio franchise route.

Transporter 2
Written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen
Directed by Louis Leterrier
France, 2005
It took three full years for Frank Martin (Jason Statham) to make his return to the silver screen following the modest success that was The Transporter in 2002, but not a lot had changed in the interim, notwithstanding a few cosmetic details. Frank still offers his services privately to whomever is willing to pay, only now he has established himself in Miami. In very James Bondian fashion, the previous film’s leading lady is nowhere to be found. This time, it is Audrey (Amber Valleta), beautiful wife to brilliant doctor Jefferson Billings (Matthew Modine), who opines over the rugged entrepreneur. The Billings have hired Frank a month ago to drive their young son Jack to and from school. Frank has, rather surprisingly, developed something of a rapport with the youth, which prompts him into action on...

The Transporter franchise heads to the south of France in this weekend’s The Transporter Refueled. This time, Frank Martin’s “cargo,” if you will, is a femme fatale and her flunkies who are all up against the Russian mob.
Taking over the role of Frank, “The Transporter,” is Ed Skrein, an English rapper-turned-actor who you may recognize as “Game of Thrones”’ Daario Naharis (before season four when Skrein was mysteriously and unceremoniously replaced). Miss the O.G. Daario? Well, after Refueled, Skrein joins the Marvel Universe in February 2016 as the villain Ajax opposite Canada’s Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool!
The Transporter Refueled – in theatres now! – is again written and produced by Luc Besson (The Professional, Taken), and directed by Camille Delamarre (Brick Mansions). Delamarre also has history with the Transporterfranchise, as he was the editor on Transporter 2.

Labor Day weekend 2015 is looking a bit peaked, that is if you're looking for big numbers from either of this weekend's new releases*The Transporter Refueled or A Walk in the Woods. The film getting the wider release of the two is the Transporter reboot, which sees Ed Skrein stepping into Jason Statham's shoes. Statham last played the character in 2008's Transporter 3, which opened with $12 million, the second highest opening within the original Transporter franchise. It's unlikely Refueled will enjoy similar success after bringing in a soft $375,000 from approximately 2,200 screens on Thursday night. Even though it expands into 3,434 theaters this weekend, it might be expecting a bit too much from the EuropaCorp release to even match the $8.3m Hitman: Agent 47 made only a couple weekends ago. A weekend closer to $7 million seems much more likely. A Walk in the Woods, the fourth release from Broad Green Features,...

Since his debut in Guy Ritchie’s 1998 film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, actor Jason Statham has emerged in the past few years as one of the leading action heroes currently working, with his popularity being proven by the fact that the Transporter series, which he headlined for the first three films, has gone on to a tv show adaptation and will be rebooted in theatres next weekend with The Transporter Refueled. That’s not the only action franchise Statham has headlined, however, as he has also been the leading man in the Crank films and been a part of the Expendables franchise and, more recently, the Fast and Furious franchise.
Action heroes often have to throw lots of punches onscreen, and Statham has been no exception in this regard. Now the youtube channel Burger Fiction has put together a compilation of the numerous punches Statham has thrown onscreen...

With $13.2M in domestic box office Universal's Straight Outta Compton held off the upstart War Room to claim the #1 position on the charts for the third weekend in a row. War Room, which beat Compton in theaters on Friday, made $11M with a robust $9,692 per screen average. The top of the heap was still a pretty low heap, however, as the top 12 made $68.8M, off 22% from last year's $88.2M, which was a weak weekend itself. That $68.8M also gives this frame the dubious distinction of being the lowest grossing weekend of the year, 12% lower than March 6 - 8th's $78.3M. The newcomers that helped achieve that feat included No Escape, the Owen Wilson/Pierce Brosnan military coup flick, which the Weinsteins state came in just a little under their $9M estimate with $8.3M. On 2,470 screens that $3,355 psa is better than the $2,850 that last year's late-August Pierce Brosnan movie offering, The November Man,...

A slow Summer at the domestic box office came to a quiet end this weekend.Guardians of the Galaxy held on to first place, while the two newcomers (As Above/So Below, The November Man fell short of $10 million.Over the three-day weekend, the Top 12 earned $88.2 million, which makes this the second-worst weekend of the year so far. Guardians of the Galaxy added $17.1 million, which ranks eighth all-time among fifth weekends. It was off just one percent from last weekend, which is a great Labor Day hold; that's even better than last year's Lee Daniels' The Butler and We're the Millers (down 10 percent and 3 percent, respectively). How do you rank perfection? Duncan has a go, as he lists the top 25 Jason Statham films...
For regular Den Of Geek readers, it will come as little surprise to see this list come round. We've chosen our favourite Statham films before, but such is the productivity of the great man, it was decided that a mere top ten was no longer large enough to contain his ever growing body of work. Last time I mentioned updating this piece to the man himself back in 2012 due to his insane workload, he cracked up and responded, “My productivity is overwhelming! 'Have a fucking day off!'”
Since this list has now expanded to encompass 25 of his movies, it seemed only right to include multiple sequels, with his big trio of action franchises all spawning some thoroughly entertaining fare worthy of mention, though I’ve tried to exclude the personal bias that...

Friday Am Update: Lucy and Hercules both did solid business on Thursday night. Lucy earned an estimated $2.75 million, while Hercules scored an estimated $2.1 million. Among Summer releases, Lucy is above The Purge: Anarchy ($2.6 million), while Hercules topped Edge of Tomorrow ($1.8 million). For the weekend, both movies are going to earn at least $20 million.Forecast: On the final weekend of July, two very different action movies will try to reverse the domestic box office's downward trend. Hercules has a much bigger budget and arguably more star power in Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, but the sword-and-sandals epic doesn't appear to be connecting with moviegoers. In contrast, Lucy's eye-catching visuals and intriguing "what if" story has put it on pace for an opening north of $30 million, which should be enough to take first place this weekend. At the start of Summer, Lucy's box office potential didn't look so hot. The movie was scheduled for August 8th,...

After making his name with string of action flicks and fantasy adventures—"Transporter 2," "The Incredible Hulk" and this summer's surprise hit "Now You See Me"—Louis Leterrier is going to try something a little bit different: comedy. The director has signed on to helm Sacha Baron Cohen in the spy spoof "Grimsby." First announced last year, the project is co-written by Cohen and "Cedar Rapids" scribe Phil Johnston and centers around a Bond-like spy who is forced to go on the run with his dim soccer hooligan brother (the role Sbc would likely take). Clearly, this one will have someone skilled at explosions behind the camera, and with Cohen doing the funny stuff, it could be a potent combo. [Variety] In other director news, Italy's Nanni Moretti—a Cannes regular perhaps best known for "The Son's Room"—has lined up his next film, "Mia Madre" ("My Mother"). Details are being...

The bumbling English spy character did wonders for Mike Myers’ career (Austin Powers), and to a lesser extent Rowan Atkinson’s (Johnny English). Now, comedy actor and virtuoso prankster Sacha Baron Cohen is set to enter the world of English espionage in Grimsby, a spy comedy from Clash of the Titans director Louis Leterrier.
Grimsby will find the Borat actor starring as a black ops agent forced to go on the run with his long lost brother, a soccer-loving hooligan. The film will hopefully combine Cohen’s outrageous humour with impressive action set pieces, which Leterrier (who previously directed Transporter 2 and Now You See Me) can definitely pull off.
Cohen hasn’t been seen on the big screen since his role as Thénardier in Les Misérables. Aside from Grimsby, he is also currently developing The Lesbian, a comedy based on a true story about a Hong Kong billionaire who...

Lots of films are dedicated to, or in memory of someone. But it's not always clear why. We've been finding out...
Back when Breaking Bad returned for its final batch of episodes in August 2013, it had a dedication at the end of it. The card read 'Dedicated to our friend Kevin Cordasco'. As it turned out, Kevin Cordasco was a 16-year old who had been battling cancer for seven years, who had met both Bryan Cranston and Vince Gilligan. Cordasco died before he could ever get to see the episode dedicated to him.
I found this such a moving story, that it got me wondering about the dedications that appear on films, and what the story behind them was. After all, the dedications are there for a reason. What I uncovered was some funny stories, mainly extremely sad ones, and some extremely moving dedications.

Over a busier-than-expected three-day weekend, 3D concert flick One Direction: This is Us narrowly took first place at the box office ahead of Lee Daniels' The Butler. Including Labor Day, however, The Butler ultimately came out on top over the holiday weekend. The big story, though, is the incredible performance of Spanish-language family comedy Instructions Not Included, which wound up in fifth place despite playing in fewer than 400 theaters. For the four-day frame, overall business came in over $160 million*that makes this the highest-grossing Labor Day weekend ever. The riches were spread across a ton of titles: over the four-day weekend, 26 different movies grossed over $1 million.Playing at 2,735 theaters, One Direction: This is Us opened in first place with $15.8 million ($18.5 million four-day). That's way off from the concert movies featuring Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber and Michael Jackson, all of which started with over $23 million. Still, it's noticeably ahead of...

The month of September typically serves as a transition period between the big-budget blockbusters of the Summer and the high-minded prestige fare of the Fall. As a result, September releases tend to be fairly modest, and September is consistently the lowest-grossing month of the year at the domestic box office. Even with appealing sequels Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 and Insidious Chapter 2, this upcoming month will be no different. Without much help from Summer holdovers, it's unlikely that September 2013 tops September 2011's $603.5 million monthly record.September 6The only major nationwide release on the first weekend of September is Riddick, which marks the third time that Vin Diesel has portrayed the titular character. A year before Diesel starred in The Fast and the Furious, he appeared as Riddick in Pitch Black, which earned $39.2 million on its way to becoming something of a cult classic. In 2004, he was back in The Chronicles of Riddick,...

Louis Leterrier is just a flat-out fun filmmaker. Unleashed, Transporter 2 and The Incredible Hulk all contain standout action sequences. Even his Clash of the Titans remake boasts some pretty great spectacle; it was just unfortunate that a studio's after-the-fact decision turned it into a poster child for ruinous 3D conversions. Earlier this summer he got to sink his teeth into something he hasn't done since his breakout film: an original script. The result is Now You See Me, a very entertaining heist movie about magicians who band together to pull off an increasingly bold series of bank robberies. The film sports a great ensemble (Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Melanie Laurent, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine), and plenty of...
