Bruce Dern is a two-time Oscar nominee who shows no signs of slowing down, having most recently appeared in Quentin Tarantino‘s “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” (2019). Let’s take a look back at 15 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1936, Dern made his film debut with an uncredited appearance in Elia Kazan‘s “Wild River” (1960). He popped up in a number of supporting roles throughout the decade, making a name for himself in exploitation films produced by low-budget king Roger Corman.
Dern hit his stride in the 1970s, when a number of offbeat-looking performers suddenly became leading men. He earned his first Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actor for Hal Ashby‘s Vietnam War drama “Coming Home” (1978), playing a Ptsd-afflicted marine whose wife (Jane Fonda) falls in love with a paralyzed vet (Jon Voight) while he’s deployed.

Executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are turning their attention to a different type of political power play.

Camera Obscura’s sound has rarely ventured beyond small variations on twee, reverb-soaked indie pop, and Look to the East, Look to the West—the Scottish band’s first studio album since 2013’s Desire Lines and the death of longtime member Carey Lander in 2015—is no exception. The group’s sixth studio album mostly sticks to a slow, midtempo pace, though the structures of songs like “We’re Gonna Make It in a Man’s World” grow in complexity, sometimes even changing time signatures, as they progress.
Though Camera Obscura’s primary influences are rooted in the 1960s—girl groups, psychedelia, and Phil Spector-esque instrumentation—they’re inventively comingled with more unexpected elements or genre signifiers. Country music, for example, is rarely heard as a musical reference in U.K. indie pop, but pedal steel figures prominently on the album’s title track and “Pop Goes Pop,” among others.

‘Superman & Lois’ has garnered praise as one of CW’s top superhero shows. Despite CW’s restructuring and cancelation of many projects, ‘Superman & Lois’ secured its season 4 renewal shortly before the season 3 finale. Although loosely connected to the Arrowverse, the show has distinguished itself from other CW superhero series, which have faced criticism in recent years.
Season 4 has been confirmed as the show’s final season, with reduced episodes, a smaller main cast, and a smaller writing team due to budget constraints. Despite these changes, an iconic character, Jimmy Olsen, is set to appear, with Douglas Smith cast in the role according to TVLine.
In the show, Jimmy is depicted as an outgoing young adult who is known for being the life of the party at work. Despite working closely with Clark, he struggles to break through Clark’s reserved demeanor. Unaware of Clark’s secret identity as Superman, Jimmy is determined to befriend him.

‘Superman & Lois’ is often touted as being one of the best CW’s superhero-based shows. This is why even following CW restructuring after many projects were written off, ‘Superman & Lois’ managed to score its season 4 renewal just weeks prior to the season 3 finale. Although unofficially a part of Arrowverse, the show managed to distance itself from other CW’s similar projects that were regarded as straight-up bad in the last few years, especially looking back at the disappointing Flash finale.
A few months ago it was confirmed that Season 4 would be the show’s last, even though the viewership remained steady, it wasn’t nearly enough to justify a high CGI budget. Season 4 is set to return with fewer episodes, with much of its main cast missing and a much smaller writers team. But the show must go on and so one iconic character will reportedly appear in the show.

“Do I look like a monk?” Chloë Sevigny asks the room.
We’re in the Lower East Side apartment of Chris Peters, the head designer of the fashion label Puppets and Puppets, and Sevigny is trying on the sequined gown she plans to wear at a fundraiser for Tibet House that night. But she worries the outfit’s long sleeve, which begins at the hem, drapes around Sevigny’s neck like a scarf, and extends to her left wrist, evokes the robes favored by the Buddhist figures whose traditions the organization highlights. As the sun beats through Peters’ window, cascading along the dress’s spangles and filling the room with reflected light, Sevigny is more reminiscent of a disco ball than the Dalai Lama.
Peters quickly reassures her. “I wouldn’t say it feels monastic. It’s an odd kind of ’30s glam. You look incredible.”

“I admire Big Little Lies and think it’s brilliant but I had to literally put it out my mind,” she said in the days leading up to the Lille market. “I knew I had to quite quickly ignore all [Moriarty’s past work] and ask what this book wants to be and what the best way is to honor it. How do I ignore all that came before to find the best voice and vision for this translation?”

Tokyo Vice is back from quite a lengthy hiatus. And despite the nearly two-year gap between seasons — one that saw a full rebrand for streamer Max — things pick up pretty much exactly where they left off.
Series executive producer and director Alan Poul, who helmed the first two episodes, suggests the handling of the pair will probably soften the blow for viewers. “The premiere is like episode nine of season one, a direct continuation,” Poul says of the two-part Feb. 8 premiere. “The second episode is really the start of the new storylines.”
Tokyo Vice has been a bizarre culmination of interests for Poul. The arc of the "Star Trek" films released from 2009 to 2016 is an odd one. In 2009, J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" rebooted the film series in a new timeline, depicting a brand new cast of younger actors playing the "Star Trek" characters we all knew and loved but altered thanks to a causality/time travel conceit. That film was a massive hit, repurposing "Star Trek" into a slick, sexy action franchise. Long gone were the days of philosophical intellectualizing and tales of diplomacy. Thousands of nerdy conversations immediately began as to what constituted the "real" version of "Star Trek" and what didn't.
Abrams followed his film in 2012 with "Star Trek Into Darkness," a film that repurposed the character of Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch) previously seen in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." That film was also a hit but is generally not as liked as the 2009 film.

Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny have joined “Monster” Season 2 at Netflix, Variety has learned.
The two A-listers join previously announced stars Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez in the upcoming season of the anthology series, which will focus on the Menéndez brothers. The season is officially titled “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story” and is slated to debut later in 2024.
Erik (Koch) and Lyle Menéndez (Chavez) were convicted of the murders of their parents, José (Bardem) and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menéndez (Sevigny), in 1996. Authorities argued the brothers committed the murders to inherit their father’s fortune, while the brothers maintained that they killed their parents after years of mental and physical abuse.
“Monster” was co-created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. Both serve as executive producers along with Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, David McMillan, Louise Shore, and Carl Franklin. The first season focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

Ever since she broke into the film industry with her role as one of the mean girls in “Mean Girls,” Amanda Seyfried has been making regular appearances in romantic comedies, thrillers and horror films. She recently co-starred in director David Fincher’s “Mank” playing the similarly doe-eyed Hollywood starlet Marion Davies. Let’s take a look at the highlights of this young star’s career in our gallery of her best movies.
Seyfried started her acting career in a few small roles in soap operas and TV. After “Mean Girls,” Seyfried appeared in several indie films, which lead to a role on the HBO series “Big Love,” about a secretly polygamous Mormon family in Utah. From there she won the starring role in the hit musical “Mamma Mia!,” and she has slowly become a familiar face on the big screen. She even nabbed a SAG Ensemble award nomination for her...

“Mainly, the struggle was really getting a good balance between the music and the sound effects, because there’s a lot of music in the show,” reveals Ben Cook, the multiple Emmy-winning sound designer for the Apple TV+ series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” the long-gestating show in the MonsterVerse franchise that premieres November 17 on the streamer. He speaks with Gold Derby’s Latasha Ford before a packed launch event at the DGA Theater in Hollywood earlier this month. He says, “You’re talking about sequences where you have these creatures fighting each other, so it’s very bombastic. The music’s bombastic, and people are yelling, which is bombastic. So there’s a lot of competing elements… It’s a lot of sound, and we had a lot of fun doing it for sure.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

With drinks flowing, a distant and dysfunctional, affluent family is unaware that their yuletide libations are laced with a truth serum that will bring holy hell down on their holiday gathering. In case you missed it earlier this week… Tis the season to be scary, as Bloody Disgusting announces the acquisition of three new holiday horror titles for the Screambox streaming service – Secret Santa, Night of the Missing, and Santastein will make the long winter’s nights anything but silent!
Since Black Christmas, holiday films have been a refreshing sub-genre within horror. These films offer a much-needed contrast to the “all is well” narrative that is so often depicted in seasonal films. The angst and anxiety of holiday horror offer a cathartic release because for many the holidays are not perfect, and we don’t see ourselves in the yuletide rom-coms.
We’re thrilled to be releasing these films because they offer something for everyone; whether you want to laugh, scream or just have fun, you can find it on Screambox!

Writer/director David Ferino’s feature directorial debut, “Wardcliffe,” starring Joel McKinnon Miller and Shane Coffey.
Inspired by real events, Ferino’s script takes place over the course of a single day as Dennis (Miller) and his son Ronnie (Coffey) quarantine together during the 2020 pandemic lockdown. Decades of tension escalate to a boiling point when the two find themselves confined inside. And as the outside world is seized by confusion and terror, the gulf between the men becomes ever more pronounced, and ever more destructive.
“Wardcliffe” is produced and independently financed by Roger M. Mayer through his production company, Brooklyn Reptyle.
“When I first heard of this news event in 2020, I knew it had the right criteria for a first feature. The film could be made on a small production scale, but with big emotional weight. It’s a tragedy that encapsulates the heightened anxiety we collectively shared throughout the pandemic,...

For nearly two decades, The CW wasn’t TV’s most popular network — outside of carefully curated demographics — but it might have been the network most confident in its brand. Shows on The CW looked and felt like they were shows that could exist only on The CW.
Currently, I struggle to find the proper analogy to describe the grab bag of acquisitions that fill The CW’s schedule since the network was acquired by the Nexstar Media Group.
Is the process of surfing through the CW slate, trying to guess a program’s origins, like taking a road trip with the family and playing the license plate game? “There’s New Mexico! There’s British Columbia! How did New Brunswick get all the way over here?”
Or is The CW’s strategy of picking up motley offerings that weren’t on the radar of Netflix or Hulu or Max...

BBC Studios has bought Stv, the Copenhagen-based producer of a local Scandinavian remake of The Office. The Scandi company will be rebranded under a BBC Studios moniker.
This marks a step change for the British producer, which to this point has had formats licensing and co-production operations in Scandinavia, primarily through an agreement with Banijay.
The Stv deal, financial terms of which were not disclosed, builds out the BBC’s production capabilities in Scandinavia. Stv is based in Denmark but has offices in Norway and Sweden.
The company is behind original shows such as Big Love and Get Lost Honey and is the local producer for formats such as Long Lost Family, Wheel of Fortune and Bargain King. It also makes long-running scripted series The First Years in Denmark.
The news comes after BBC Studios and Banijay mutually agreed to end their local first-look formats agreement at the end of March.

Acclaimed actor Bill Paxton left the world way to soon on February 25, 2017 due to a stroke during surgery. His death at the age of 61 was noted on the Oscar ceremony for that year, which was held the next day. Let’s celebrate his great career with a look back at his 15 greatest movies.
As a young boy in Texas, Paxton was in the crowd and can be seen in photographs the day JFK left his hotel to begin the motorcade in which he would eventually be assassinated.

Inside a warehouse in an undisclosed location in Los Angeles’ South Bay, a shipment of clothes belonging to Chloë Sevigny recently arrived. They are being photographed, cataloged with barcodes and properly boxed and hung by The Wardrobe, a New York storage and preservation company that recently opened its first archive in the L.A. area.
“I’d just been holding onto everything for so long now and not storing things properly, from my first communion dress to my Oscar dress [a Ysl in 2000 for Boys Don’t Cry] and my Golden Globes dresses,” says Sevigny. “I have almost everything.”
Sevigny connected with The Wardrobe founder Julie Ann Clauss over Instagram. The two met up at the actress’ storage unit in Connecticut and began sorting through her trove of clothes. The items include spring 1996 Miu Miu designs (“I was in one of their first campaigns, and they gave me the entire collection,” she says); a...

Seyfried never made singing a huge part of her career. But she was dead set on getting a role in the latest film adaptation of Les Misérables. It was a process that took a lot more dedication than she ever expected.
Amanda Seyfried has years of experience in musicals
Seyfried knows that she isn’t the same kind of A-list superstar as some of her colleagues. Yes, she has anchored many films as the lead. She has a habit of being a scene-stealing supporting actor. But she didn’t build the kind of career that used her breakout...

Although Karen Smith could have been a run-of-the-mill ditz in Mean Girls, Amanda Seyfried flourished in the role while borrowing the persona of one of the most iconic actors of all time. As a result, we were introduced to a versatile screen talent who would go on to gather acclaim in both TV and movies.
And it all started with lifting a famous voice straight from the 1950s.
Amanda Seyfried originally auditioned for a different ‘Mean Girls’ role
Seyfried’s future was very much up in the air as she headed to her first class at Fordham University in New York City in 2003. But according to an interview with Self, Seyfried never made it.
Already late from doing a screen test for Mean Girls, Amanda Seyfried bailed on the class (and Fordham) altogether. After ditching class, she headed to Los Angeles to audition for the movie after the screen test proved successful.
