Here lies Thomas Eugene Paris, beloved mutant. That’s what Trekkies think about every Jan. 29, known among some as “Threshold Day,” commemorating the 1996 airing of the Star Trek: Voyager season two episode “Threshold.” Threshold Day consists mostly of memes and jokes, poking fun at what most consider one of the series’ worst episodes, if not one of the most embarrassing Star Trek episodes of all time.
While it is certainly corny, “Threshold” doesn’t quite deserve its ignoble reputation. Not only is it far from the worst episode of Voyager (Chakotay’s ancestors’ bones play no part in the story), but it contains a lot of qualities found in the best Star Trek episodes. Is that enough to elevate “Threshold” to the upper Trek tiers? No, but it is enough to give the episode a better reputation than the one it has now.

In the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Threshold", the U.S.S. Voyager discovers a rare, extra-powerful version of dilithium, the crystal that is required to run starship engines. Using this new dilithium, the Voyager crew figure they can build an engine capable of passing the mythic warp-10 barrier, essentially allowing them to reach infinite velocity, passing through every point in the universe simultaneously. Such a breakthrough would allow the Voyager to return to Earth in a moment.
When testing their new engine, however, something goes awry. Tom Paris (Robert Duncan McNeill) returns from a test flight ... altered. He begins to mutate and change, losing skin and spitting out his tongue. It seems that the infinite velocity flight somehow triggered his body's evolutionary genes and he is rapidly transforming into whatever creatures humans will evolve into in the next hundred million years. When Paris becomes an amphibian-like frog man, he kidnaps...

U.K. sales and distribution outfit Blue Finch Films has boarded worldwide rights, excluding Australia and New Zealand, to thriller “Birdeater.”
The debut feature from filmmaking duo Jack Clark and Jim Weir follows a bride-to-be who is invited to join her own fiancé’s bachelor party on a remote property in the Australian outback. But as the festivities spiral into beer-soaked chaos, uncomfortable details about their relationship are exposed, and the celebration soon becomes a feral nightmare.
Blue Finch describes the film as “an unapologetic look at how Australia’s iconic masculine identity has become incompatible with contemporary gender politics.” The film stars Shabana Azeez (“Run Rabbit Run”) and Mackenzie Fearnley (“Operation Buffalo”) as the soon-to-be-wedded couple. Written by Clark, the film is produced by Stephanie Troost and Ulysses Oliver of Breathless Films. The Australian and New Zealand rights are with Umbrella Entertainment.

Exclusive: Blue Fox Entertainment announced it has acquired worldwide rights and will be launching sales on the sci-fi thriller Site at the upcoming American Film Market in November. The gripping and thought-provoking film is written and directed by the award-winning Jason Eric Perlman, who was recently named #4 in LA Weekly’s “Top 10 Entertainment Professionals to Watch in 2023.” His debut feature Threshold was released by Sony Pictures after a decorated festival run in 2017.
Blue Fox Entertainment is handling worldwide sales and will preview first look footage of the film for buyers at the upcoming American Film Market (AFM). Blue Fox Entertainment’s US distribution division is planning a theatrical release for the film.
The film stars Jake McLaughlin, Arielle Kebbel, Theo Rossi, and Miki Ishikawa, and Yoson An.
In Site, Neil (Jake McLaughlin) experiences an inexplicable time distortion in an abandoned military test site while inspecting it with his business partner Garrison (Theo Rossi). Soon, Neil is having repeated traumatic flashes back to a WWII prison camp in China called Unit 731, which somehow holds the thread to his own unraveling present. Neil begins to realize that the past lives and events in this place of unspeakable brutality seem to mirror his own trauma with his son Wiley and his wife Elena (Arielle Kebbel). Desperate for answers, Neil enlists Naomi (Miki Ishikawa) to help him find the facility’s last surviving scientist. Ultimately, Neil awakens to a new redemptive responsibility, both within his own family and the greater society around him.
Site is produced by publicist and entrepreneur Benjamin Cooke, Sundance alum, Kelly Hayes, international businesswoman, Yvonne Supangkat, and Jason Eric Perlman.
Blue Fox Entertainment’s James Huntsman said, “Audiences are hungry for high quality science fiction thrillers, which have been scarce in the market recently. With Site, Jason and his talented cast and crew have created an exciting journey that has something relevant to say beneath the surface of the film.”
Director Jason Eric Perlman said, “We are thrilled to have this film beginning its journey in the viewing world. In this time of such unthinkable conflicts I believe it’s vital that creativity explores the interconnectedness of mankind, as well as the atrocities we are capable of inflicting upon one another. Site is intent upon doing both, but with the philosophical imperative that if we ignore history, or the darkness within each of us, we are doomed to repeat the same traumas over and over.
It has been an honor to work with our incredibly talented cast in bringing this story to life, and their commitment to the material elevates it to a remarkable plane. Our visionary crew is also to be credited with what I believe we’ve achieved. The cinematography of Eunah Lee and the brilliant production design of Gabor Norman were integral in the telling of this story to full potential. We are excited to team now with Blue Fox in launching this film into the world.”...

It has been 25 years since Keri Russell graced the small screen in the iconic role of Felicity Porter.
Felicity, the J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves-produced college drama, was a critical darling of The WB, becoming a phenomenon well before "the big chop" controversy and often topping the list of young adult classics to this very day.
The series amassed 84 episodes over four seasons, and it was nominated for 38 awards, including a Golden Globe Best Actress nod for Keri Russell.
The series remains impactful, even two and a half decades later. And it's primarily due to the allure of the cast, many of whom are still going strong in their careers all these years later.
So, where is the cast of Felicity now? Check it out!

In the first episode of the fourth season of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," called "Twovix," the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos has been given a delicate mission. It seems that the U.S.S. Voyager, having returned from the Delta Quadrant only a few years prior, has now been converted into a flying museum commemorating that ship's many adventures. The Voyager must be accompanied to Earth, where it will be opened to the public, and the Cerritos has to oversee the transport. The old Intrepid-class starship contains mannequins wearing mission-worn uniforms and touts periodic diorama-bound exhibits explaining some of the Voyager's more outlandish shenanigans. "It's Voyager," one of the Cerritos crew members fliply points out, "S*** got crazy."
One of the stranger exhibits features a pair of outsize, orange animatronic salamanders that will be instantly recognizable to "Star Trek: Voyager" fans. In the episode "Threshold", the Voyager crew...

This Star Trek: Lower Decks article contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 3.
The third episode of Lower Decks Season 2 has, in its title, an Easter egg to the Tng episode “We’ll Always Have Paris.” It is not anyone’s favorite episode of The Next Generation, but it’s possible that “We’ll Always Have Tom Paris,” will be your favorite episode of Lower Decks. Well, that depends on how much you love Star Trek: Voyager and not having complicated questions answered, ever.
Genesis devices to Delta Quadrant madness, different kinds of Orions, and several Worf shout-outs, here’s every Easter egg and reference we caught in Lower Decks Season 2, Episode 3.
Boimler can’t use the replicator
Mariner mentions that the upgraded security on the Cerritos means is responsible for Boimler being locked out of the replicators. This vaguely references the DS9 episode “Inquisition” and the Voyager episode “Counterpoint,” when it...

Much is going to be made of the circumstances surrounding Threshold, the micro-budget supernatural road movie by co-directors Powell Robinson and Robert-Patrick Young, which arrives via always-immaculate horror specialists Arrow this week. Shot on two iPhones over two days, with a crew of three and dialogue mostly improvised by its two leads, there’s no doubt that it’s an impressive example of turning limitations into virtues. The against-the-odds achievement of getting a film made under those conditions, as impressive as that is,is really the least important thing here, though. iPhones are just handy-sized cameras, after-all, and the wide vistas of an American cross-country trip ensure the frame is almost always cinematic and often quite beautiful.
This isn’t a story about budget filmmaking, it’s a story about connections. We follow Leo (Joey Millin) as he drags the semi-trashed car he used as a teenager out of mothballs...

Grimmfest have today announced the launch of their Grimmfest Easter Edition, a new annual event taking place over the Easter Weekend, and complimenting the long-established festival in October.
Easter is traditionally a time for rebirth, renewal, resurrection. But as the Pandemic continues to rage, and the world remains on lockdown for the foreseeable future, it is also a time for rethinking. Thus, while the Grimmfest team had hoped to be hosting a ‘live’ Easter event, instead, the Grimmfest Easter Edition will be taking place online, and will build on the success of Grimmfest 2020 online experience.
The festival will open on Thursday April 1st with our preview night that will feature the UK premiere of Kourosh Ahari’s surreal and sulphurous Iranian American haunted hotel horror The Night, which has already earned deserved comparisons to Kubrick’s The Shining, alongside the UK premiere of Lluis Danes’ visually ravishing reimagining of the...

Kourosh Ahari’s ‘The Night’ and Lluís Danés’ ‘The Barcelona Vampiress’ to open genre festival.
UK genre film festival Grimmfest has revealed the line-up for its first Easter edition, which will open with Kourosh Ahari’s The Night and Lluís Danés’ The Barcelona Vampiress.
The spin-off event to Grimmfest was established after its traditional October festival was moved online, due to the pandemic, and was meant to mark a return to physical screenings for the organisation. But ongoing cinema closures and restrictions will also see the Grimmfest Easter Edition go virtual from April 1-5.

In this round-up, I’ll be wrapping up my coverage from Salem Horror Fest’s stellar lineup of films for their 2020 edition of their festival. The films I’ll be discussing here include Ryan Glover’s The Strings, Threshold by Powell Robinson and Patrick R. Young, and Sophie Peyrard’s documentary, The Witches of Hollywood.
The Strings: As someone who has been struggling with her own sense of creativity as of late, there was something about The Strings that really stuck with me long after I finished it. Centered around a singer/songwriter (played by real-life musician Teagan Johnston), the story follows Catherine in the aftermath of a messy breakup with her band, who pretty much jettisons her life and escapes to her aunt’s vacation home in search of inspiration and music that reflects who she is evolving into as an artist. During her getaway, Catherine begins to...

Star Trek: Enterprise is probably the worst live-action show in the franchise. Despite boasting Scott Bakula as Captain Archer and the great core concept of showing the first forays of mankind into the wider galaxy, it never found its feet (and it had an absolutely terrible opening song). The series attempted to switch things up in the third and fourth seasons by focusing more on action, but it failed to convince audiences and was unceremoniously cancelled in 2005.
The legacy of Enterprise was explored in a virtual panel at last week’s Galaxy Con Live, in which Enterprise stars John Billingsley, Connor Trinneer and Dominic Keating discussed what did and didn’t work. Billingsley, in particular, didn’t mince words when it came to casting blame, saying the show’s flaws were the fault of the producers and network.

Ernest Hemingway’s memoir A Moveable Feast is in the works for the small screen. Village Roadshow Entertainment Group, along with Oscar-nominated actress Mariel Hemingway, the granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway, John Goldstone (Get Carter) and Marc Rosen (Sense8), have closed a deal to produce a television series based on the book. A search is underway for a writer.
Being told as a Hemingway origin story, A Moveable Feast is Hemingway’s earliest known work about his years as a poor but ambitious young expat journalist and writer in Paris in the 1920s. The book was first published in 1964 and describes the author’s apprenticeship as a young writer while he was married to his first wife, Hadley Richardson.
The memoir consists of various personal accounts, observations, and stories by Hemingway. Other notable people featured in the book include Sylvia Beach, Hilaire Belloc, Aleister Crowley, John Dos Passos, F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald,...

Our genre television podcast hosts discuss lesser known shows that sci-fi/supernatural stars were in before they were famous.
Television stars don't always achieve fame on their first project. But beyond all of the guest spots and hopping between commercials, films, and procedurals, it can be somehow satisfying to realize that some of our favorite science fiction, fantasy, horror, and supernatural actors were in earlier, lesser known series in those same genres before they were in the show that we know them for. Sometimes, this previous work is best left to obscurity, but that's part of the fun of discovery.
In this episode of Sci Fi Fidelity, we talk about some notable examples of well-known genre actors that had other large roles that didn't exactly win them the notoriety they would later achieve. We start of with Lindy Booth of The Librarians, who was surprised...

“Escape Room” filmmaker Adam Robitel has carved out a funny little niche for himself as the director of the first wide-release movie of the new year, two years running. Robitel rang in 2018 with “Insidious: The Last Key,” a functional but forgettable shocker in the “Insidious” franchise. Which was, in retrospect, perfectly fitting for a disturbing year, one that we somehow managed to collectively get through but which many of us would prefer never to talk about again. Maybe he was onto something.
Here’s the good news: “Escape Room,” Robitel’s latest New Year’s gift to the world, is a definite improvement. This gimmicky William Castle-inspired thriller is 10 pounds of silly in a five-pound bag, but you know that going in. It’s a movie about escape rooms that literally kill you, and if you’re willing to buy into that premise, it’s about as good as...

When 10.3 million people tuned in to NBC’s “Manifest” this fall, they likely did so because of solid advertising and an intriguing one-line premise: A plane vanished five years ago, only to mysteriously reappear with everyone on board as if no time had passed. The idea set up both clear human stakes as well as an overarching mystery.
But as noted from the beginning, what the show actually aimed to be wasn’t clear, especially since the character stories almost seemed at war with the mystery aspect. Which means that nine episodes later, 5.9 million people tuned in for “Manifest’s” fall finale, watching a show that still has yet to find an identity beyond “kinda like ‘Lost,’ I guess?”
It’s not that nothing has happened on “Manifest” over the past few weeks — sister and brother Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) and Ben (Josh Dallas) have worked steadily to try to figure...

If you watch sci-fi TV, you’ve seen his name. Brannon Braga has written and produced for Star Trek: Tng, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise, Threshold, 24, FlashForward, and Terra Nova. It looks like we’ll next be seeing his name in conjunction with a new series that will also be notable for being the first scripted series for Wgn America, Salem.
Set in Massachusetts in the 1600s, it will, according to the press release, “dare to uncover the dark, supernatural truth hiding behind the veil of this infamous period in American history. In Salem, witches are real, but they are not who or what they seem. The show, which centers on an epic romance wrapped around this explosive revelation, delivers a bold new vision of Salem – and an even bolder new vision of witches.”

I've previously stated that I'm more of a network TV kind of girl than a cable fan. I know it's not the "popular" or "sophisticated" thing to admit, but sometimes I prefer to be lightly entertained without getting too inside my head. Yes, I'm basically slamming network television as light and fluffy, while at the same time revealing I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to all things gritty, but that's just how I'm programmed.
But if there was one cabler I'd kill to have access to, it would be USA Network (thankfully Bravo here in Canada picks up a lot of its shows). I find USA boasts the best of both worlds, a channel that can entertain without taking itself too seriously (see "White Collar," "Suits," "Covert Affairs," "Fairly Legal"). So I was a tad wary when I learned Sigourney Weaver was headlining a political drama centring...

The makers of a new miniseries, including one of the year's most impressive television casts, have America's political parties to thank for it coming together so fast.
Executive producer Greg Berlanti ("Brothers & Sisters") admits this being an election year was a huge factor in his rapid development -- and USA Network's quick purchase -- of "Political Animals," which begins a weekly run Sunday, July 15. The drama boasts a rare home-screen appearance by Sigourney Weaver as a maritally troubled former first lady and failed presidential candidate who becomes secretary of state.
If that sounds somewhat familiar, let it be noted the character is fictional, indicated by her demand for a divorce from her ex-president husband (Ciaran Hinds) early in the premiere episode. However, his charisma and connections keep him useful to her in matters of international diplomacy ... again, fiction in this case.

Sheriff Walt Longmire will get a blast from the past when three-time Emmy winner Charles S. Dutton appears in the A&E drama’s first-season finale.
TVLine has learned exclusively that Dutton will guest-star as a detective from Colorado who comes to Wyoming’s Absoroka County to follow up on a mysterious case from Walt’s past. The freshman series’ finale is set to air Aug. 5.
In addition to his run as the titular Roc on Fox’s early-1990s comedy, Dutton’s myriad TV credits include The L Word, Threshold, House and, most recently, a turn on American Horror Story.

David S. Goyer, the prolific screenwriter behind some of the most successful comic book-based movies made in the past fifteen years (including Batman Begins, the Blade movies, and the upcoming Superman film, Man of Steel), is hoping his big-screen success finally translates to the small screen. After nurturing such short-lived television series as Flash Forward, Threshold, Blade (based on the three-film franchise he wrote, the third and final one he also directed), and FreakyLinks, Goyer is returning to the cathode realm with his latest creation, a new series entitled Da Vinci's Demons. The show will be the first to be produced under a new multi-year agreement Starz Entertainment signed with BBC Worldwide Productions over the summer [...]...
