After six decades of performing as an international star, the life and work of Tina Turner are finally getting a documentary. HBO announced on Wednesday that it has set a release date for “Tina,” to date the most ambitious doc project about the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
“LA 92” and “Undefeated” directors Dan Lindsay and T.J. Martin are leading this feature-length look at Turner’s lengthy career, which will be available on HBO and HBO Max next month on March 27. The project, first announced in early 2018, will feature interviews with Turner herself, in addition to little-seen archival footage.
Turner first rocketed to stardom in the 1960s and ’70s, performing alongside her then-husband Ike Turner. Off-stage, the partnership was violent, though the extent of the abuse wasn’t known until after the pair divorced and Tina began to speak publicly about her experiences.

Who isn't a sucker for childhood best friends falling in love with each other as adults?
It's one of the best tropes, and The Christmas Aunt gave it to us in all of its glory with Becca and Drew.
Aren't you thrilled those two worked through their differences and found happiness by the end of the film?
Jarod Joseph is in his element as the pining best friend. It's the same setup he had during last year's The Christmas Pact with Kyla Pratt.
And of course, Keisha Knight-Pulliam is a Lifetime Christmas Movie queen. The two of them played off of each other well, and you couldn't help counting down the seconds until they hashed out their differences.

CBS will begin rolling out its scripted shows in November.
The Eye network will debut ten shows during the first three weeks of November -- nine returning series and one new addition to its roster.
Among the premieres are the NCIS trio, B Positive, Young Sheldon, Mom, and S.W.A.T.
The Neighborhood, Bob Hearts Abishola, and All Rise are also set to return.
The Equalizer, as well as returning dramas Blue Bloods, Bull, Evil, FBI, FBI: Most Wanted, MacGyver, Magnum P.I., and Seal Team, and comedy, The Unicorn, are still awaiting word on when they will return.
The good news is that the series with confirmed premiere dates will launch with several episodes banked, allowing them to air without breaks, initially.
CBS previously announced its intention to air a business-as-usual fall sked earlier this year, but with uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, there was no telling whether that would be possible.

First Look Media-backed U.S. streamer Topic has picked up the short film “The Hat,” starring Jude Law and Raff Law, and directed by Darren Strowger.
Shot during lockdown, with an original score by The Who’s Pete Townshend, the film marks the first time Jude Law and his son — who has appeared in other short films and stars in the forthcoming “Twist” — have acted together on screen.
The six-minute short was filmed on location in the U.K. during lockdown, and shot entirely on an iPhone. It follows a young man who wanders into the middle of a barren field, only to be interrupted by a mystery assailant who starts chasing him. Plans are in place to extend the short into a 20-minute film, and later, a feature-length version.

After reading Heather's recent 4/5 review for The Wolf of Show Hollow, I can't wait to check it out this weekend and we're excited to share with Daily Dead readers and exclusive track from the movie's soundtrack! Also due out on October 9th, the 20-track release was composed by Ben Lovett and will be available courtesy of Lakeshore Records:
Lakeshore Records is set to release The Wolf of Snow Hollow—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on October 9. Composed by Ben Lovett, the album is a strikingly orchestrated, multi-faceted work inspired by old school Bernard Herrmann-era suspense thrillers reflecting all the dimensions of the offbeat horror film—from darkly comedic to tension-fueled terror to oddball mystery caper. The album includes the newly reimagined cover version of “Little Red Riding Hood” originally performed by Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs in 1966, and given a seductive and thoroughly haunting treatment by Lovett and indie artist Valen.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details of tonight’s Power Book II: Ghost series premiere on Starz.
“The man who killed James St. Patrick is (long pause) Tommy Egan,” declares Naturi Naughton’s Tasha St. Patrick to a dubious courtroom just before one more twist ended the debut of Power Book II: Ghost today.
Having premiered early this morning on the Starz App and just now on the premium cabler itself, the first spinoff in the Courtney Kemp created franchise was part throwback to mother show Power itself and a whole lot of leap into the future, literally and figuratively. With Michael Rainey Jr’s Tariq St. Patrick trying to get his mother out of jail for the murder of his father that she did not commit, Cliff “Method Man” Smith’s high-flying defense lawyer Davis Maclean and Mary J. Blige’s Queenpin Monet are finally introduced into the Powerverse.

“Power” fans eagerly awaiting the continuing adventures of Tommy Egan just caught a break. Variety has learned that the Starz spinoff series built around the character will no longer be the last “Power” spinoff to debut.
When Starz originally ordered the four “Power” spinoffs earlier this year, the Tommy spinoff was slated to debut last and was titled “Power Book V: Force.” Instead, it has been redubbed “Power Book IV: Force,” meaning it will debut after the prequel series “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” which is set to resume production soon for a 2021 debut. “Influence,” the prequel starring Larenz Tate as Rashad Ford, will now be “Power Book V: Influence.”

With Bill & Ted Face the Music finally upon us, it’s such a great feeling to revisit two of the most lovable characters around. There’s something special about the characters Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter brought to life (thanks to some excellent writing from Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson), something that allowed viewers to immediately latch onto the absent-minded, but well-intended metalhead duo. While many jump to the assumption that, like Cheech & Chong, Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted “Theodore” Logan are your run-of-the-mill, cliché-laden stoners, that’s never been the case. What drives Bill and Ted throughout the entire series isn’t smoking and scoring pot, no, it’s a sincere, genuine love for rock and roll. There is such an affinity for the music which drives them, that true to from, it takes a while to realize that your love for the music that moves you should...

Even though the new thriller, Centigrade, is beset by a few issues that prevent it from being a truly great entry to the genre, it is still a tremendously effective exploration of the effects a fight for survival has on a relationship that perhaps is not as strong as was initially thought.
The scene is set somewhat simplistically as a young American couple, Matthew (Vincent Piazza) and pregnant Naomi (Genesis Rodriguez) wake up after spending the night on the side of the road in the arctic Norwegian mountains after pulling over to rest as the weather grew more treacherous and their ability to drive safely became even more unlikely. Unfortunately, although they are rested, the vehicle has been entombed by a layer of ice that they are unable to penetrate. With very little in the way of resources to assist them in surviving this startling situation, they begin a battle...

There are two nights left to count until the 2019-2020 television season is in the books and, as usual, some shows had a better year than others. This time around, broadcast’s lowest-rated entertainment series among adults 18-49, which is the demographic beloved by advertisers, was the Melissa McCarthy-hosted kids’ talent show “Little Big Shots,” with several series tying for second-to-last place. Click through TheWrap’s gallery to see this season’s 22 lowest-rated broadcast TV shows ranked by their “most current” Nielsen ratings, which include a week’s worth of delayed viewing where available. For the purposes of this story, we elected not to count shows on The CW and newsmagazines like “20/20,” “48 Hours” and “Dateline,” which would have gobbled up several slots. The list goes highest to lowest and there are ties.

“Cancellations are always a tough call,” CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl said, “and the circumstances around Covid-19 have not lightened the load on broadcasters.
This season, CBS pulled the plug on shows including God Friended Me, Tommy, Carol’s Second Act and Broke. Kahl said all of these were tough decisions, made “tougher by the situation that we find ourselves in.”
2019-20 TV Cancellations And Renewals For Broadcast, Cable & Streaming
“At the end of the day they weren’t doing the numbers we were hoping for, and despite liking them creatively, knowing timely decisions were upon us, we had to make tough calls to move on from those shows,” he told Deadline. “You want to keep them all for another season; that’s what makes these calls tough. You invest a lot of time and effort and people put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into these shows, and when you have to say goodbye.

Tommy's cancellation came as a surprise to many.
The cast and crew of the CBS procedural have been paying tribute to the controversial decision to end the series on social media.
"For the very last time, Tommy series finale is on tonight," said Adelaide Clemens, who played Blake Sullivan on the series.
"Truly devastated our work here is done. I’m going to miss working with such an exceptionally talented and especially kind group of people."
"To the cast and crew of Tommy, you’re bloody legends. ❤️ Thank you @cbstv."
"Tonight was supposed to be our season 1 finale of Tommy. Unfortunately, it is now our series finale," said Michael Chernus, who plays Ken Rosey.
"Tommy will not be renewed for a second season by CBS. The various reasons and numbers and optics and algorithms behind why some shows make it and some don’t is frankly above my pay grade.

CBS is giving the green light to some new shows.
The Eye network on Friday announced series orders for a reboot of late-’80s crime drama The Equalizer starring Queen Latifah, the Silence of the Lambs sequel Clarice, and Chuck Lorre’s organ donor comedy B Positive.
The Equalizer and Clarice have netted series orders despite no pilot episodes being produced, while B Positive managed to complete its pilot ahead of the Covid-19 shutdown that brought the TV industry to a halt.
The Equalizer follows an enigmatic figure uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn.
It is a new take on the character played by Edward Woodward on the original series and by Denzel Washington in the movie franchise.
The series stars Queen Latifah, Chris Noth, Liza Lapira, Lorraine Toussaint, and Tory Kittles.
Meanwhile, Clarice is set in 1993, a year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs.

ABC’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire was the top-rated show in primetime Thursday, scoring a 0.9 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 6.20 million viewers on a night that saw the series finale of CBS’ Tommy, the debut of Fox’s Gogglebox-themed Celebrity Watch Party, and the return of NBC’s Blindspot for its fifth and final season.
Three shows that were canceled by CBS earlier in the week aired last night: comedies Man With a Plan, steady with both of its back-to-back episodes last week, and Broke were followed by Tommy, the Edie Falco-starring police drama. Its series finale was even compared with last week. CBS won the night overall in viewers.
ABC won the night in the demo, with Millionaire, which gained a tenth from last week’s episode, followed by Station 19 and How to Get Away With Murder, which were both off a tenth.

The final salute for Edie Falco and “Tommy” brought in a decent audience on CBS.
Only two days after the network canceled the freshman drama, “Tommy” aired its final episode to a 0.5 rating among adults 18-49 and 5.4 million total viewers, which will go down in the history books as a series high. The other two new episodes which aired on Thursday night were coincidentally for shows which were also dumped earlier in the week. “Man With a Plan,” which is sending after four seasons, scored a 0.7 and 6.1 million viewers (even on last week), and “Broke came in with a 0.6 and 4.8 million viewers. The announcement that the Pauley Perrette and Jaime Camil series would not be continuing came after only five episodes of its first season had aired.
ABC won the night overall, thanks to “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” with Jimmy Kimmel, which ticked up to a 0.9 rating and 6.2 million viewers.

Fox’s “Celebrity Watch Party” debut was watched by only 1.8 million total viewers last night. NBC’s “Blindspot” Season 5 premiere barely drew a larger audience — and it actually fared even worse in the key demo.
As a direct result, both of those networks finished below Univision among adults 18-49. They tied with Telemundo.
ABC was first in ratings with a 0.7 rating/10 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and second in total viewers with an average of 4.8 million, according to preliminary numbers. “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” at 8 p.m. drew a 0.9/5 and 6.2 million viewers. “Station 19” at 9 had a 0.8/4 and 5.5 million viewers. At 10, “How to Get Away With Murder” got a 0.5/3 and 2.8 million viewers.

To little surprise, CBS renewed NCIS, as well as spin-offs NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans Wednesday for the 2020-21 TV season.
As is the norm for more longer running series, new deals had to be carved out with the leads of each series to ensure they would be back for the coming season.
CBS TV studios was in an unprecedented position, with NCIS lead Mark Harmon, NCIS: La leads LL Cool J and Chris O' Donnell, as well as NCIS New Orleans lead Scott Bakula not having deals for next season.
Could you imagine any of these actors exiting the franchise? It would make for many unhappy fans, because, well, they are the people fans think about when talk of each show comes up.
Deadline has now revealed that Harmon's deal to star in NCIS Season 18 has closed, and that he will continue to executive produce both NCIS...

Tommy won't be back on patrol next season. CBS just announced that the network has cancelled the cop drama and won't be ordering a second season for the 2020-21 broadcast season.
The Tommy series revolves around a former high-ranking NYPD officer who becomes the first female chief of police for Los Angeles. Abigail “Tommy” Thomas (Edie Falco) uses unflinching honesty and hardball tactics to keep social, political, and national security issues from hindering effective law enforcement in the Southland. The CBS drama also stars Michael Chernus, Adelaide Clemens, Thomas Sadoski, Russell G. Jones, Olivia Lucy Phillip, Joseph Lyle Taylor, and Vladimir Caamaño.

It's a good day to be a fan of several CBS shows.
The network may be late to the party, but it has started to unveil renewal decisions for some of its long-running series.
Yes, we now know the fate of more.
The list of renewed shows are as follows:
- NCIS (Season 18)
- NCIS: Los Angeles (Season 12)
- NCIS: New Orleans (Season 7)
- FBI (Season 3)
- FBI: Most Wanted (Season 2)
- Magnum P.I. (Season 3)
- MacGyver (Season 5)
- Bull (Season 5)
- Blue Bloods (Season 11)
“Thanks to these exceptional shows, we’re going to win the current season by 1 million viewers,” said Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment.
“Next year, we’ll have these strong returning series as our foundation…and Super Bowl Lv too. It’s a well-balanced lineup across Entertainment, News and Sports that will put us in an incredibly stable position for 2020-2021.”
None of these renewals are surprising in the slightest.

CBS has already made.a mass renewal announcement, and now comes the bad news.
The network has canceled freshman series Carol's Second Act, Tommy, Man With a Plan, and Broke, as well as long-running Man With a Plan.
Man With a Plan is the biggest surprise here. The series has proven to be a reliable performer for the network.
It is currently the network's #8 series in the demo in most recent live + same day results, but it reached syndication levels with its most recent fourth season.
That being said, it's surprising CBS is not offering up another season of the show, given the decent ratings after such a long wait between seasons.
Broke, which marked Pauley Perrette's return to CBS, started with decent ratings, but it is currently averaging 5.5 million viewers and a 0.7 rating.
The numbers are not great, and it was always on the fence for renewal or cancellation.
