The company behind reboots of horror classics like Halloween and The Exorcist is reportedly moving forward on a reboot of the 1981 Canadian slasher film My Bloody Valentine, according to a Bloody Disgusting exclusive.
Directed by George Mihalka and written by John Beaird, My Bloody Valentine received mixed reviews from critics upon its initial release but has since garnered a devoted cult following, enough to warrant a remake in 2009 that starred Jensen Ackles, Jaime King, and Kerr Smith.
Surprisingly, though, My Bloody Valentine is one horror IP that hasn't been revisited time and time again...until now. Blumhouse aims to change that and revive the killer pickaxe-wielding miner who murders for a new movie.

Deadline reports this weekend that Neon has acquired the movie “following a multi-buyer tug of war,” further establishing themselves as horror powerhouses in their own right.
“Multiple U.S. distributors came in hot for the project after its newest promo [in Cannes] and we hear a deal settled in the high seven figures,” Deadline notes in their report.
You can expect Neon to release The Monkey sometime in 2025.

Almost a year has gone by since it was announced that Theo James of The White Lotus had signed on to star in a Stephen King adaptation called The Monkey, coming from the team of producer / genre regular James Wan and director Osgood Perkins, whose credits include The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, Gretel & Hansel, and the upcoming Nicolas Cage horror film Longlegs. Longlegs won’t be reaching theatres until July 12th, but Deadline reports that filming on The Monkey has already wrapped. While Universal and Blumhouse were clearly hoping to replicate the success of their Halloween series, things got off to a rocky start with The Exorcist: Believer. The film released to a measly 22% on Rotten Tomatoes and was widely derided (check out our review Here). With its recent release on Peacock, Universal is now readying for the physical media release and probably looking for a silver lining. Heck, there are still supposed to be two more of these movies. So let’s find out if the The Exorcist: Believer Blu-ray is worth a purchase.

Not that it wasn't already clear, but "Five Nights at Freddy's" has become a ridiculously big success story for both Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions. To further fuel that fire, with the money the video game adaptation pulled in over the weekend, it has officially crossed the $300 million mark at the global box office. All of this happening while "Five Nights at Freddy's" has been readily available to stream on Peacock at no additional cost to subscribers. A remarkable feat, to be certain.
"Freddy's" made $400,000 in its sixth frame domestically, per The Numbers. That now puts its running total at $136.9 million domestically and $163.4 million internationally for a grand total of $300.3 million. The film is certainly running out of gas and it probably won't add too much more to its total from here on out, though it still has a release in Japan set for February. Either way, this is a home run for all involved.

The film is certainly running out of gas and it probably won't add too much more to its total from here on out, though it still has a release in Japan set for February. Either way, this is a home run for all involved.

With the news of Matthew Perry’s death in late October, viewers seemingly turned to his best-known role as Chandler Bing on Friends to remember him.
The beloved comedy gathered 583 million minutes of viewing on Max for the week of Oct. 23-29 (Perry, 54, was found dead at his home on Oct. 28). That was a 31 percent gain over the previous week and the biggest total watch time for Friends since early February.
A pair of movies, No Hard Feelings and Five Nights at Freddy’s, also made strong showings on the Nielsen streaming charts for the week. The former, starring Jennifer Lawrence, led the rankings with 1.13 billion minutes of viewing on Netflix in the United States — the equivalent of about 10.97 full showings of the movie. That’s two thirds of the worldwide total Netflix reported in its own rankings for the week.

For the first time since June, Suits did not manage to surpass 1B minutes viewed during the week of October 23 to 29.
With 997M minutes viewed, the USA Network legal drama came in second on Nielsen’s streaming charts during this interval. This brings to an end its 18-week streak of reaching over 1B minutes, which, while impressive, is actually not the record holder.

The Exorcist: Believer (our review can be read Here), the latest entry in the Exorcist franchise, is now available on PVOD – you can buy it from Amazon’s Prime Video at This Link – but according to Amazon listings it won’t be reaching physical media until July of 2024. While we wait for those discs to start shipping out, Variety has revealed when the film is going to start streaming on the Peacock service… and the date isn’t far away. In one of the most surprising interviews in Jimmy Kimmel's history, Temple revealed that she grew up in the original Michael Myers House from the Halloween movie.
"So my parents were living out here, and I was born actually in the U.K., but then I came back here until I was about 5," she dished.
"And I actually grew up in, this is an interesting place to grow up, my parents bought a house without realizing until Halloween came around, and there was a tour bus that it was the original Michael Myers house from the Halloween movie!"

Like all slasher films, David Gordon Green's "Halloween" trilogy will be heavily debated between generations of horror fans until the sun burns out, with people still screaming out "Team Corey!" or "It sucked!" with their last, gasping breaths. Regardless of how anyone personally feels about the trilogy, there's one thing we can all agree on — there are some pretty damn gnarly kills on display. "Halloween Ends" is home to some particularly shocking kill sequences, with the massacre at the salvage yard easily one of the best. During the scene, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) gets revenge on a gang of bullies who torment him, including Terry Tramer (Michael Barbieri), Stacy (Destiny Mone), Margo (Joey Harris), and Billy (Marteen). Terry takes a blowtorch to the face, Stacy gets her head smashed by a wrench, Billy gets a drumstick stabbed through his head, and Margo...

David Gordon Green's 2022 slasher film "Halloween Ends" is an unusual entry in the series in many ways. In it, the vicious masked serial killer Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) has been living in a sewer and stays out of the film's central action for the bulk of its running time. "Ends," instead, focuses largely on a character named Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell), a man who, two years ago, accidentally killed the young boy he was babysitting. Green envisioned Corey's hometown town of Haddonfield, Illinois as a bitter and wounded place, full of spiteful, hurt people who cannot heal from the murderous damage that Michael caused way back in 1978, as well as his return in 2018. Every citizen is bitter, angry, and paranoid. Corey is bullied and picked on, unable to outlive his mistake.

For the second weekend in a row, Universal and Blumhouse's video game adaptation "Five Nights at Freddy's" remained atop the box office charts. Granted, this past weekend didn't bring much by way of significant competition, with Meg Ryan's low-budget rom-com "What Happens Later" and A24's Priscilla Presley biopic "Priscilla" entering the fold. On paper, topping the charts for two weekends looks great, but "Five Nights at Freddy's" did take a nosedive in its second frame, dropping a whopping 76%. Why the big tumble? The horror film, which opened in theaters and debuted on the streamer on October 27, has become Peacock’s most-watched film or series ever in its first five days on the streaming platform.

When John Carpenter made the original “Halloween” in 1978, it was just another horror movie in a long line of horror movies. But the blockbuster success of this low-budget movie, about a masked killer murdering babysitters, made “Halloween” a cultural institution. The film spawned legions of imitators and codified the slasher genre as we still know it. And yet the official “Halloween” franchise has often struggled to meet the standard of the movie that inspired the craze. Perhaps the most intensely discussed horror reboot of the 21st century is David Gordon Green's "Halloween." With a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a 72% audience score, it seems like most of the intended crowd for the slasher legacyquel walked away satisfied, so Universal Pictures quickly put two more sequels on its calendar. Unfortunately, "Halloween Kills" was a drastic step down, earning only a 39% critics score. Sure, the audience score only dropped a bit to 66%, but when you're dedicated to the franchise, you're bound to be fairly pleased with whatever you get. "Halloween Ends" didn't fare much better, with just a 40% from critics, and a steeper drop to 57% from fans, officially taking it into rotten territory on both counts.

Martin Scorsese may want to fight back stronger against comic book movie culture, but a video game adaptation (which he may or may not think is cinema) is currently giving his latest film quite the battle at the theaters. While Killers of the Flower Moon has the accolades and the star power behind it, perhaps late-October was an oversight from Paramount and Apple if they wanted it to replicate the kind of business Oppenheimer made this summer.
