This post contains spoilers for Madame Web.
There are exactly two good things in Madame Web. No, it’s not the meme-worthy line about moms and Amazons, which doesn’t even appear in the movie. Neither is it all of the winks toward Peter Parker nor the young female Spider-heroes who (spoiler) have only two brief scenes in costume.
No, one good thing in Madame Web is the old-school Marvel logo that opens the film. The simple flipping of comics pages that dissolves into the big red block with the word “Marvel” in white font, before MCU movies replaced it with their busy fanfare.
The other good thing happens at the end of the movie. Or rather, it doesn’t happen. Because after Madame Web‘s closing scene, a very stupid looking close-up on Cass Web’s blank face, played by the ever-wooden Dakota Johnson, credits roll and that’s it.

The Hives have readied The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons, their first studio album in over 10 years. The Swedish rockers will drop the LP on August 11th; today, they’ve shared lead single, “Bogus Operandi.” Check it out below.
The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons has just the type of absurd origin story you’d expect from The Hives. In a press release, the band claim that they haven’t heard from the titular character — the elusive “founder, mentor and songwriter” who started the group 30 years ago — since they released their last album, 2012’s Lex Hives. Recently, they found an obituary that led them to Fitzsimmons’ tombstone; only, upon digging, they found not a corpse, but demo tapes and a piece of paper plotting The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons.
Meanwhile, Hives frontman Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist had this to say about the album: “There’s no maturity or anything like that bullshit, because...

What is Casting Couch? It’s the casting news roundup that’s currently wondering what the President’s new house is going to look like in the Independence Day sequel. And it’s also got news about new gigs for bombshells like Paz Vega and Kelly Brook. It’s true that Will Smith is such a highly paid star these days that Roland Emmerich has said he isn’t even going to try to get him to come back for his upcoming Independence Day sequel, but he also said that some of the other names from the first movie are going to return, and in a recent conversation with Movies.com he confirmed two of those names. Said names are Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum, who you’re probably familiar with. Now all we need is confirmation that Judd Hirsch is going to be back as Goldblum’s dad, and then we can all breath a sigh...

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this February. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.9 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant stack of returned copies of Holy Terror since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The new look of Darkseid, and we’re far enough into the new 52 books that it’s time for Batman to start crossing over in all of them. Plus Mara Jade, the red-haired assassin who fell in love with her blond-haired man she was sent to kill– oh, I’m sorry, that’s from Star Wars. This is Mera in a jade outfit. Our mistake.
Shall we? Surely!
As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

We’ve received all the covers for DC Comics August solicitations, and Flashpoint promises that worlds will live, worlds will die, and the DC Universe will never be the sa– oh, sorry, that was the tagline for Crisis On Infinite Earths, back when I worked at Flashpoint. I’m so confused…
My favorite item for the month is pictured above, the Sergio Aragones version of Batman from Batman: Black & White. But there are some absolute art gems here, including Darwyn Cooke’s Jsa cover, and Frank Quitely’s redoing of Gil Kane and Murphy Anderson’s cover for Green Lantern #52.
As for the rest of the books, take a look… as usual, spoilers ahead:

We’ve received all the covers for DC Comics July solicitations, including the long awaited Games, the New Teen Titans graphic novel from Marv Wolfman and George Pérez. And when I say long awaited, I mean two decades long– which kinda ties in with all the DC Retroactive titles coming out, including our favorite, Green Lantern reuniting the team of ComicMix contributors Dennis O’Neil and Mike Grell.
Take a look.

Believe it or not, casting is still going on for Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class". The confusion towards how this story is going to be put together continues with the addition of Álex González as the mutant called Riptide. He's known to tag along with the group called The Marauders, first appearing in the comics back in the late eighties. His mutant power is to spin his body around at a ridiculously fast rate. Think Quicksilver but instead of just running it's making yourself into a human hurricane with spikes jumping out from his body able to harm anybody that stands in his way. González is an actor from Madrid, Spain who's really starting to spread out in American films. He's appeared in several films like "Sunday Light", "Milk" and several television episodes of "Lex". "X-Men: First Class" is currently filming right now in London and boasts a cast that includes James McAvoy,...
